Good experienced barbers. I was longing for a proper haircut after a 1.5yr of self haircuts during the lockdown.If you are paying by card, they do not accept tips on card. So you may need to carry cash for tips (or Venmo)

Dont be fooled by the star rating, I wanted to give a no star rating.If you have a beard...avoid this barber like the plague. During the pandemic, my barber of 3 years moved due to careers endeavors. I spent the last year researching barbers, instagram and facebook photos of their clients, and read their reviews. Once Cali opened up officially on 6/15/21, I was super pumped to get my beard trimmed by Shorty, the Master Barber. For context sakes, I have been growing my beard out with beard trims here and there for 4 years. Safe to say, Im pretty attached to my beard.I get to the shop, I meet Shorty. I show him twice what I want done and I tell him what I want done. I have posted pictures of what I wanted done as well as before/after pics. Shorty completely chopped my beard off, took chunks of hair from the beard, and didnt even line up the neckline. The overall appearance of the beard was uneven all over. Where there was once hair, there are now balding spots under my chin. Regarding the neckline, he took the neckline up too short. All I asked Shorty to do was take in the sideburns a little bit and line up the neckline, but most importantly, I told him that I like the length so keep the length.I would give a no star rating, but google wont allow a review to be posted unless theres a star given. Words cannot describe the anger and the disappointment from this barber. I cannot stress enough to those with beards...please look elsewhere, this is not the shop for you. Its clear that Shorty did not listen to what I wanted done nor did the picture help.

Great cut with a great vibe in the shop. Highly recommended. Before covid they served refreshments. You get in the chair and it all be good!

Really solid barbershop! I was just visiting San Francisco and needed a haircut, so I looked up the best barbershops in the area. Booked an appointment with Steve and was not disappointed. Great attention to detail and professional atmosphere. If I’m ever in the area again, I’ll definitely be coming back.

My go-to barber shop in the city. Although prices have gone up considerably, I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Jourdan has been cutting my hair for the last 5 years and she is amazing. Don’t forget to get your tea or beer. You might as well take advantage of it.

I moved to SF four years ago from NYC and my barber there recommended I track down Shorty the Barber ... Im so glad I did. Ive gotten a cut from most all of the barbers there. But have most frequently been to Shorty and Brittany as they are available. Everyone there is great. Best shop in the city. We all deserve to be well Kempt.

I moved to SF about 7 months ago and struggled to find a barber. After trying a few different places, I finally came across J.P. Kempt as a walk in. The employees are very welcoming, the environment is perfect, and Ive had about 5 different employees cut my hair and each time Im very happy. Great place. Tipping is cash only but they offer cash back if youre short!

Once of the best barbershops in San Francisco. It is expensive but worth it. Everyone working there is very talented and you get a hot shave on your neck after the haircut. Id continue to go if I still lived in SF.

Ive been here twice and left both times with a great haircut. Both times when I showed up for my 10:00am appointment my barber was 15+ minutes late. However, in each case the management rectified the situation. Because of the quality of service I will continue coming back here for the foreseeable future!

Went in for a haircut and beard. Honestly, one of the worst haircuts Ive ever had, crooked hair line and uneven. Really disappointed. The beard trim/shave was almost impressive so two stars is fair.

I came here to get a lot of very long hairs (grown for 3+ years) made into much shorter hairs. This is a bit of a stressful experience for me, especially because my hairs are very curly and barbers often butcher them. Paulette absolutely killed it. No fuss, no stress, she looked at a couple pictures and pulled it off perfectly. No easy task, but no sweat! Highly recommended

Shorty has been cutting my hair for the last few years and has never failed to deliver a clean cut. He is a master with the clippers and shears. His straight razor shave is one of those little luxuries in life that you wish you could do everyday. Highly recommend

Ive been going to JP Kempt since they opened and Shorty for years before that. They are my favorite barber shop anywhere, bar none. Great environment, good products, amazingly skilled barbers. Couldnt recommend them more!Strongly suggest you book online in advance, especially for Shorty.

Im a hairhopper no more.Ive bounced from barber to barber, barbershop to barbershop, looking for someone to cut my hair just the way I want it. Well, I shall not bounce again. The reason Im hanging up my pogo stick? Because I landed in the comfy chair in front of Jourdan at JP Kempt.Besides being absolutely adorable with her bleached hair and tattoos, Jourdan really listens. My strange aversion to sharp cut lines behind my ears WHICH I NEVER SEE? Not a problem: well fade that right up. (Speaking of fades, my friend to whom I suggested Jourdan as a new barber, just sent me an email saying, and I quote, That Jourdan gives me such a dope fade.) My lets just take a little off at first and then well go from there mentality that would drive lesser barbers to tears? A big smile and an of course, and what do you think about maybe trying [insert great suggestion here]? Honestly, I cant say enough.And it only takes 30 minutes. Folks, my hair is not complicated. It shouldnt take 60 minutes to cut, with constant raking of my head with a pair of clippers that stopped clipping anything 20 minutes ago.The place itself is a nice take on an old-school barber shop. A receptionist who offers you a complimentary drink when you walk in. A smile and little wave from Shorty, the proprietor. A happy group of barbers who seem to really enjoy their job and their surroundings. And if you like bourbon, youll love this place.So, grab your pogo stick and hop on over to JP Kempt. Ill just say Youre welcome now.

I forget the barbers name but it started with H. He had attitude. Cut way more than what I asked. Chopped a huge chunk out of 1 side of the front and geberally just messed up with the scissors. Forgot half the things i asked and had to be reminded multiple times and it was not a complicated haircut at all. Will never return. Go to Peoples.
