5 ⭐ for Ambience only. Rest is so- so but not worth the price tag. They were able to accommodate us even though we were late for our reservation. But then they could have mentioned they arent serving afternoon tea service for the day. Other veggie options were not what we were looking for - salads and soup. No good options for vegetarians. We got couple of drinks and left.

We were here for the afternoon tea. Theres a set menu for $50 with tea, various savory bites and sweet delicacies. The were 12 of us, the service was fast, and the food was delicious. We began with a small cup of broth and a buttery popover, which came with the strawberry butter. Our waiter was outstanding in catering to all our requests. A beautiful ambience for an afternoon meal.

My purpose for the Rotunda was afternoon tea. It was awesome. Small cakes, sandwiches, and scones were yummy. We can enjoy fancy tea time there. They prepared a clotted cream for scones! Yay!! Also, the restaurant prepared some kinds of teas. I chose Earl Grey today, and it has a good smell and delicious. The restaurant staffs are so nice, friendly, and also helpful. First, I reserved there at 1:15 PM. When I arrived there, I noticed I couldnt order afternoon tea at that time. (It was 2:30 PM -) Therefore, the staff member changed the reservation time kindly. I appreciate that. This place is always full, so my recommendation is take a reservation before you go! (You can take a reservation on here, Google Local Guide!) This afternoon tea set is a little bit expensive, but you can enjoy afternoon tea time with nice atmosphere with your friends and family!! Sometimes, we need quality time and treats right?

Ive been to the Rotunda 4 times now and have never had a bad experience with food or service here. Ive came in dressed up and super casual and the staff had been very courteous either way.It gets busy very quickly so do reserve your table in advance.Recommended: Lobster bisque (a cup is very filling so order moderately if you do get the bisque!).PS: You could also get a decent tea time here($45/person) with lots of interesting tea blends and sweet/savory bites.

This is the 3rd place I have been to for afternoon tea. It has lowest value, worse savory and deserts. You can only choose one kind of tea, not like two other places you can try more flavors. Deco is nice but noise level is high. So it is definitely not a place for dating but maybe a good place for girls gathering. The things made up my disappointment were the soup and bread. They gave you one small cup of chicken soup and very tasty bread with spread for free. They have been doing this ever since I came here for the first time long time ago. I love the soup and bread a lot. It is so much better than its afternoon tea.The location of this restaurant is very nice but parking is expensive. Each hour is $6 across the street. It is $50 per person. There are other choices as well. $50 is the lowest. We were sitting in the booth and you can see outside. Too bad it is still in construction. The restaurant was packed and I dont think you can get in without reservation. Savory and deserts were all very ordinary. They looked like store bought and tasted like store bought. They also gave you very few items on each plates. Overall, I may come back for meals but not for afternoon tea. They are better choices in San Francisco.

Food was good but service and selection was poor. They automatically bring you food such as a popover and chicken soup but for vegetarians this cannot be eaten and no alternatives provided. Also food order was wrong so the table had to wait 15mins for new meal to come out. Slight apology but no big deal to server. We largely felt dismissed and ignored. Wow, we came here to have lunch today and boy was I shocked. The service was ok, the servers are nice and what not and the starting chicken bouillon + bread got my hopes up. But alas, that was all a foil for the disappointment that was to come!We ordered the dungeness crab melt and the prime rib french dip sandwiches today. They came out beautifully, but I cant say the same for the taste. Amazingly (kudos to the chef), they managed to make a delicate fruit de la mer taste as bland as a white table cloth. Biting into the rib sandwich reminds me of dried Elmers glue.Halfway through we started to wonder why were not just eating filet-o-fish and quarter pounder at McDonalds, at least they deliver what they promise.

The Rotunda on the Fourth Floor of Neiman Marcus offers a casually elegant respite from busy Union Square shopping. While the interiors could use some updating (I noticed several dark scuffs on the leather club chairs on my last visit), the service is very good and the food and drinks are classic without feeling stodgy. Yes, you can order a proper Manhattan, but you can also order a refreshing Seasonal Sparkler. If youre peckish, you cant go wrong with the lobster rolls or local cheese plate. The Rotunda is virtually the only place for a relaxed, elegant luncheon weekdays after 1 PM in downtown San Francisco (as odd as that may seem). Exactly one year ago tomorrow my husband and I were married at City Hall at 11:30, then our small wedding party of 7 adults and one 2 year-old met upstairs for lunch at 2 PM. The staff was welcoming and congenial but maintained the appropriate degree of formality and professionalism one would expect. The service was excellent, the menu was varied, the main courses were timed perfectly and served hot, and the food was delicious. We brought our own Champagne; the corkage fee was reasonable and the wine was kept properly chilled and the glasses kept full. Our table was situated to give us a degree of privacy but still overlooking the atrium, with an outside view. As must be obvious by now, I was quite taken by the place -- I would have never expected such an urbane dining experience at a department store restaurant. The meal was an integral part of a important day. Needless to say, The Rotunda comes highly recommended -- my felicitations to the staff for a job well done.

With its casual elegance, the Rotunda is a fun restaurant to enjoy afternoon tea with a pretty view of the gold dome. The service is extremely attentive with frequent checks and water refills. The tea is served in the right temperature. The selection of savory sandwiches and sweets is good. The turkey sandwich with a garlic aioli spread is tasty. The sweets are pretty to look at and delectable without being overly sweet. The scones came out hard with a bitter aftertaste but the problem was corrected with fresh ones upon notification. The other recommendation would be to replace the scuffed white tea pots. The cucumber sandwich could also be elevated with an additional ingredient beyond the plain yet fresh cucumbers and cream cheese. It is often busy so advance reservations can be made with OpenTable.

We came in for a girls date, hoping for high tea. Unfortunately, high tea isnt offered until 2:30 pm. We decided to go the brunch/lunch menu and enjoy the beautiful ambiance of the Rotunda. We were seated upon arrival and had a gorgeous backdrop of the iconic Rotunda. The meal started off with complimentary Chicken Consume & fresh Popovers w/ strawberry butter. We ordered a bottle of prosecco for the table and asked for a side of OJ. After a cute little cheers and a group snap, we decided it was time to eat!We all ordered salads - the Waldorf Modern, the Beets + Burrata and the Grilled Lemon Shrimp. What may look like a small portion for the price tag, ended up being more filling than we expected. The food was incredible. We all loved our salads and the quality of ingredients and flavors. The service was excellent. Our waiter was prompt and checked in on us from time to time without being overbearing. He made sure plates were cleared and food arrived on time.So why not the 5 stars? One of the girls who ordered the Grilled Lemon Shrimp salad, found a huge piece of plastic wrap in her salad. To be fair, yes the staff was shocked and immediately took back the food and asked her if shed like another salad or another item. She opted for the lobster bisque soup since she didnt have the appetite to eat another large salad dish. I completely appreciate the customer service the staff had for us and this mess, but it was not something I was expecting to see at a restaurant like this.I completely appreciate the staff rectifying the situation without having to ask. I was just a tad bit disappointed a big piece of plastic ends up in a salad plate like that.Overall, incredible ambiance, service and staff. I really enjoyed coming here and would love to pop back in for high tea.

Totally agree with one of the yelp reviewers, “With all the hustle and bustle in the city it’s nice to have tranquility up on the fourth floor of Neiman Marcus floor.” We came here for our tea service but were starving hungry that we decided to order from the lunch menu.First of all, I highly recommend making reservation at this place. After we sat down, they gave us popovers with strawberry butter. It was delightful. After they cleared our table, they served us chicken broth which had an intense smell that overpowered the table and our nostrils. We were reluctant to taste. I made an attempt to sample but it was strong that we quickly requested the server to remove from our table. Overall the broth was rejected by the six ladies. We all agreed and were on the same page that it did not have fragrant smell. Every time, they served on other table we could smell it. I strongly urge the managers, to remove this from their menu.Service – I was totally disappointed with our server. It was hard to get he’s attention. And whenever we requested anything it took time before he could deliver, forgot and most of the time it appeared he neglected our table. We were in a party of six; he automatically received a 20 percent gratuity. I wish restaurants ban this 20% gratuity policy because most of the time it’s seen that servers take full advantage and neglect their customers. And the server was sweating and smelling. He’s smell was not pleasing when he came to our table.Ambiance – They have beautiful celling, open space and big windows. The stained glass ceiling is breathtaking and stunning.Food– Though, it was pricey but it was worth every penny. We ordered salmon filet with kale, lobster sandwich, crab melt, burger, and turkey sandwich. I was pleased with their selections and the taste of food. The waiter asked one of the girls, what type of cheese you prefer with the sandwich. When we received the bill, we realized he charged $1.50 for the cheese. Please inform your guests that it’s not included or don’t offer without them asking. We ordered cocktails from the menu too. I loved my elegant mule.Overall we had a wonderful time minus the service. I would highly recommend people to come and try this place.
