We have certainly gotten off on the wrong foot. . . I called at 9:00 A.M. this morning 6/21/2021. There was a message that no one was available to take the call. In anticipation that I may have called before the receptionist/scheduler had made it to the office, I called back a few more times during the morning. Each time I called I was transferred to a phone messaging system with the message that someone would get back with me within 24 hours. I did not leave a message on any of my morning calls.Thinking that I might have better luck in the afternoon, I called back at 4:45 P.M. I was put on hold with music playing in the background. I anticipated this is a good sign that a staffer was present. Moments later the music ended and I was transferred to voicemail. This time I left a message with a phone number. It remains to be seen as to how long it will take them to get back to me. . . Certainly no impatience here . . .
I called to make an initial appointment, and was told that I needed a referral from my PCP. I called my insurance to verify my benefits, and was informed directly that I didnt need a referral and mental health benefits were covered. I called back the next day to try scheduling again, and the person I spoke to seemed confused when trying to figure out my benefits, said she would call me back, and then never did. Two failed attempts at making an appointment with a provider that should accept my insurance. Should not be so hard! I moved on to a different provider.
I’m really disappointed with this center. I’ve been with them over a year now and haven’t had any issue until recently. I called to cancel an appointment I had, a day prior, and left a voicemail. 5 days later I get a charge on my card for a full price visit. I didn’t remember they had a 48hr cancellation policy and not a 24hr cancellation policy and so I own that and will pay the fee because that is my fault. (Had to cancel for an important work meeting. Unfortunately work comes first :/)However, the reason I’m writing this review, and ended up sharing the above situation, is because of what I found out after the fact. I called the center on 4/5/21 to ask what the charge was about. I only received a call back yesterday, 4/15/21. Extremely poor communication on their end. But, once I did hear back from the billing department, they told me they never received a missed call or voicemail from my phone number on the day I told them I called to cancel my appointment. I thought that was weird but figured it was a tech issue so I logged into my phone provider’s account to send them proof that I did call and the duration of it. (Before being advised of their 48hr cancellation policy, I was banking on getting the cancellation charge refunded because I had proof that I did call to cancel...little did I know I just did it too late.) Again, the charge is not the issue...I then realized and was like wait, they admitted they didn’t receive a missed call or voicemail from me the day before my appointment, so they were counting on me to show up to my appointment, per usual. Yet, they NEVER reached out to me / still haven’t reached out to me (it has been a month+ since said canceled appointment) and I have not heard word from the office or my psychiatrist. It’s extremely disheartening to know that on my appointment day, my psychiatrist attended my video meeting, saw I didn’t show up, obliviously left the video meeting after some time of me not showing up, but then never reaching out to check on me, make sure I was okay, or even to reschedule an appointment.I’ve attended every appointment I’ve had for the past year+. And to “miss” my very first appointment, let alone during a pandemic and time of high stress and anxiety, there was not and has not been a single word from the center checking up/asking to rescheduling.I’ta sad to say but I will not be continuing with this facility any further. There isn’t any excuse to not check up on your patient(s).
My psychiatrist is good but the office is run poorly. They do not answer the phone nor return messages. This is an ongoing problem. A mental health practice cannot be run by an answering machine.
9/9/202: and it gets better. After this place telling me I owe them $600 for three visits, which finally got resolved (I don’t owe them more than just 3 copays or $45) I get this as a response from the person in charge. If this is how to talk to people, good luck.Edit 8/12/21:This place just keeps getting worse and worse. Stay away. My insurance changed 10/20, called office and gave new insurance information. Person on the phone said I was good and my insurance is accepted and nothing will change. Well, let’s fast forward a few months and a few appointments later. I get a bill for over $600 in the mail saying my provider is out of network and not covered by my insurance. The incompetence of the office staff is just mind boggling. How do these people have a job? You will see my payments, never. This is just wrong in so many ways, and then to not even reach out and tell me I’m accruing a balance is just shady. Stay away from this place at all costs.Love my psychiatrist, but the office is an absolute joke. I have been without my medications now for 3 days and have left several messages with the office and have not heard back. Do they not understand how horrible it is to keep someone with MH issues away from their meds? Seriously, three days and several messages and not one call back. Absolutely horrible. If it wasn’t for my psychiatrist I would have left this place a long time ago.
This place is great they were able to see me right away in a pinch when I needed them the most. I really liked my therapist too. Walked in pretty down and left feeling on top of the world.
We came to SoCal Psychology Centers for my child and the therapist was incredible! My daughter learned so much and loved each time she had her appointment. We started during COVID quarantine and the process was seamless with appointments through Zoom. It was just like being in the office in person. I would recommend SoCal Psychology Centers to anyone!
I have been through many counseling offices through the years. I have been treating here for about 5 months now.The office staff is warm and friendly. My psychologist is phenomenal. I have gained so much new insight into my life from our sessions. From my first appointment to any needs that have come up since I started, I have been treated with friendly professionalism. I am grateful that I found such a great supportive group to help me. I feel very strongly they have helped me to improve my life. Thank you.
First session was good even though it started late because no one was at the front office. I was sick for the second appointment and missed it so they called me to charge me the no show fee the next day. For my third visit I showed up to find out Stacy K. Johnston had cancelled all my appointments. I did not wish to continue treatment here due to lack of trust. Hope this helps.
So Cal Psychology Centers is great! The Patient Care Liaison is made everything hassle-free, and I felt like I was being personally taken care of every step of the way. I recommend this place to all of my friends and family.
