I have been a Client of Ronin for just a few months as I recently transferred from the Northern California area to San Diego. I was looking for a professional place to workout and obtain a better mind, body and soul. A place that represents respect for all ages, respect for martial arts, workouts that are challenging yet accommodating and just as important being with people who enjoy a sense of extended family. So lucky to have found Ronin, Phil Dang and his team just around the corner from my office and with all of the above being represented from day one. What an honor and a privilege it is to learn from the best. If you are looking for a great place to get in shape, to be challenged, to learn self discipline and enjoy a bunch of truly amazing people, Ronin is the place.
I’ve known Professor Phil Dang for five years, and he’s one of the best and most genuine people I know. We met training Muay Thai, and I recently began his Firearm Safety Course with him and Guru Dave. The course has been some of the highest level instruction I’ve received in any field. Being a martial arts coach and youth coach myself, I would recommend any program under the Ronin banner, as I know the level of professionalism Professor Dang brings to his academy.
There are many positives to training at Ronin Martial Arts Academy. Not only is the academy clean, bright, and spacious but the instructors are positive and down to earth. Their constructive and efficacious classes are fit for all levels. When I began at Ronin I had no prior experience in boxing, Kajukenbo (self-defense) or Muay Thai. My experience with this academy has been pleasant and an awesome introduction to the martial arts world. If you are looking for a happy, family oriented vibe this is the place to go.
An amazing group of people. Feels like a family. Just started on the Firearms Safety Course and its been fantastic. Well paced and incredibly reasonable for the amount of training you get. Inspired me to try out the other classes. There are so many so I can change up my schedule depending on my time and mood. My favorite is the Kajukenbo class. Effective and something I dont see taught very often. Sometimes Ill also do some Boxing or Muay Thai and I really like the Kali/Escrima classes. Its nice that during COVID I can do classes through Zoom as well. Always something new to learn. Highly recommend giving it a try. While Im based in SD this is my go-to place for training.
With my Martial Arts background, it was very important to find a place where our children can receive great training in self-defense. Six years ago we chose Ronin Martial Arts Academy above the other places we’ve seen. Professor Phil was approachable, respectful and has extended training and knowledge in several Martial Arts. We are truly grateful to be part of this academy. It is a very welcoming environment and they have AWESOME instructors. Nice huge facility with regulation size boxing ring. Here’s a tip. The more classes you take, the more value you get! Take a Martial Arts class, a Fitness class, and a Yoga class or as many classes as you can to get the most out of your membership. We thank you Professors Phil and Remy for teaching and caring for our kids all these years.
The school has been a great place for me to learn the arts and train hard. Professor Dang is a technician who will equip you with real life tools and the environment is one of support and character building. You’ll get a good workout, but you’ll leave with more than that training here. So glad I’m a part of the family.
Has to be the best school Ive found in the area. No egos, attitudes or nonsense you find at other places. Prices are incredibly reasonable and a great mix of various martial arts with people I look forward to seeing.
If you guys are looking for somewhere to not only train.... but learn skills you can take with you for the rest of your life. You should come check out Ronin Academy. It’s a place where all the staff & coaches make you feel like you belong and are part of the family. Another plus & important thing for me is this gym is always clean 🤙🏼
Ronin is a great Academy to get your training going for any of the classes they offer. I have always wanted to take up boxing and was always intimidated by the workouts, drills, and gyms that I have seen online, but Ronin helped ease me into it. I remember going to one of my first classes for boxing. There was a good amount of experienced members and I felt like the odd one out. Even though the instructor teaches the class as a whole they still take time during class to have a couple minutes of one-on-one with each student attending that session. Although this location is still in the process of setting up and getting new equipment and gear, the environment still holds honor and respect for each individual that steps into it and the arts practiced. Feel free to come by and check it out! Talk to some of the members and instructors!
Its a great facility for both kids and adults. My son has been with the Academy for 4 years and the improvement is just outstanding! Hands down to Phil and all the dedicated senior belts and instructors that trains the kids and adults. Everybody treats each other with respect. Definitely recommend the Academy especially if you have kids.
The most street realistic self-defense school in the San Diego area. The Dang brothers are the best. More importantly when you are here you are family. Love you guys keep sharing your knowledge and love Aloha
The only academy that takes 2 year olds ladies and gentlemen!!! I was always told its too early to enroll my 2 year old in any activity which bummed me out. Then I heard that Ronin was opening up. I commented on one of the Facebook posts and I was surprised that they wanted to start a tiny ninja class!!! I was thrilled to say the least. I love seeing my son build a trusting relationship with his uncle/instructor. My son has made so much progress in his class, easily engages and follows instructions oh and will also ask for permission to do things at times. I was so frustrated when he first started this class because all my son would do was whine but Philip had so much patience with him and with me lol he always assured me my son was making progress but I couldnt see it. Now that I look back at how he started and where he is now, I can see the progress he was talking about and in only 3 months. Oh and prices are super reasonable and place is super clean so check them out!
This review is actually for the Muay Thai program that’s offered at Ronin. I’ve been to a number of gyms in San Diego over the years and have trained with some good coaches, but sometimes you just find a place that you feel at home with. The coaches at Ronin focus on core fundamentals and treat Muay Thai like a true martial art. It’s the absolute respect for the sport. As students we are reminded that Ronin is an academy not a gym... more so, I’ve found that it’s a family.
