Shaun and Bobby are awesome! We went out with Pelican Sport Fishing for my husbands 33rd birthday and had a blast. The guys are so knowledgeable and great coaches. We caught fish and saw a lot of wildlife while we were out. Amazing experience. We’ll be back!

I’d suggest Pelican to any of my friends or family who want to charter a fishing boat. Captain Shaun is the best - easy going, very easily to talk to, great conversation, professional. He took us to a few different fishing spots along the coast and we had luck with all of them. He would explain to us why we were using the bait he set us up with and which fish that type of bait would catch when paired up with the depth and location we were fishing at. The boat is clean and well maintained. Captain Shaun also cleaned out fish for us at the end of the day so all we had to worry about was getting home and turning on the grill. Overall an amazing experience with the best. You can’t go wrong.

Captain Shaun took us out for a Bachelor Party Fishing Trip. It was absolutely phenomenal, and he was not on only incredibly professional but a true pleasure to be around. We did the half day trip for Rockfish but he was very knowledgeable and just fun to talk with and be around. Unfortunately one of our mates was unaware of his own seasickness and Shaun had no issue with turning us around and dropping him back off. Weve all agreed well definitely be back for more and even longer trips. 10/10 could not recommend more.

First time ever for this family to go out on a fishing trip like this and thanks to Pelican Sportsfishing we had the best time!!!!! Shaun was great with setting up the trip and communication the whole time. Then Bobby, who was the one who took us out, was so patient with us and helped our 9 year old daughter reel in a couple fish so that the rest of us could try to get as many fish as we could. He put us right on the fish every time. He patiently taught us everything we needed to know and helped us bait our lines and everything. This was a great experience! We only did the 6hr rockfish trip but it was fantastic! Wish we’d booked a longer trip! Shaun is awesome and easy to get along with. We LOVE Pelican Sportfishing! Shaun and his crew are wonderful! Truly good guys! We are from Colorado and decided to book Pelican for a ocean fishing experience. Our family, (my husband and 3 kids aged 18, 12 and 7) all had so much fun catching fish and even had a visit from a Sea Lion! We had a 2 week vacation in different parts of California and this was definitely one of our favorite parts of our amazing vacation! ( I ended up getting sea sick and returned to land early while the rest of my family continued on, the guys treated me so well and took such care of me.) I can not recommend Shaun enough, being on his boat in the ocean catching fish was so much fun for my family!!!

I’ve been on several charter fishing trips in California and Hawaii. What I have found is that catching fish can make it a great trip, but enjoying the day is all in the hands of the crew. Capt Shaun and First Mate Carl made the trip. Yes, we caught plenty of fish, but it was great how they helped the kids and did not talk down to them (or us). They were patient and made us all feel at home. They talked about the various types of fish and laughed and talked stories. Sure, I would have loved to land a giant halibut or tuna, but I had a much better trip than on some that we did. Thanks for the great day and for helping give the kids an amazing experience to tell their friends about. We will be back (not in a man killing robot way).

He is also patient as can be, provides helpful tips and has a great attitude and good sense of humor. The boat was very comfortable all around, and got us to where we needed to be (on top of the fish) quick. The gear provided was top notch. Cant wait to get out there again with Shawn!

Had a really great morning on the water with Shaun and Drew, incredible duo who made us feel truly at home on their boat while casually but expertly teaching us how to hook um. We caught several starrys and a ling cod, but the fun surprise was a horn shark. Appreciated that they pointed out dolphins along the way. Loved this charter and these fellas! We had so much fun and recommend highly.

Great trip with Pelican Sportfishing! One day trip with options for local island/rockfish or going outside for tuna/dorado. We opted to go outside and Captain Sean put us on fish even when fishing conditions were tough. Landed tuna, yellowtail, dorado, and even a shot at a swordfish on the surface. The boat is quick (nice for getting to the fishing grounds quickly) with small cabin in case you need to take a short break and get out of the wind and sun. Gear is very clean and well taken care. Sean and Bobby are knowledgeable and really fun to fish with. Highly recommended!

Unbeatable experience with Shaun and his mate Bobby. It felt like going on a trip with your friends and not strangers, they immediately made us feel comfortable. Shaun was knowledgeable and professional, put us right on the fish. Bobby was a great help. The boat was perfect, they had snacks and water, a small bathroom. Epic day of fishing yesterday with Pelican Sportfishing. Captain Shawn and FIrst Mate Bobby are true professionals. They were extremely knowledgeable and navigated the Fatal Attraction masterfully as we hunted and found massive schools of Bluefin and Yellowfin foamers all day long. National Geographic has nothing on these guys! We fished on a full day trip and landed 3 beautiful Bluefin tuna and broke off on a few monsters we did not expect to encounter. The energy and enthusiam that Shawn and Bobby invest in your trip far exceeds the price of admission!!!The photo is attached is Tyler who invited me to join him and his father-in-law Dave holding a nice 83 pounder that we all fought together over an hour on lightweight tackle. What an experience!

Had a work group out for Charter this last weekend Oct 5. Fish counts looked great all week, and Captain Shaun did not disappoint. Promptly met at the dock at agreed upon time and quickly got on our way. Hes very open, welcoming (his house is your house), and instructive. We had a nice 2.5hour boat right out to the zone and got to work. Found or first school thanks to a friendly charter Captain friend of Shauns and action the action didnt stop. Awesome fishing experience with Shaun and Carl! We booked a trip over spring break with our 11 and 14 year old boys. The boat was clean and comfortable, and the guys were very personable. We caught 10 fish that they cleaned for us to take back to our condo, which provided several meals on our vacation. My son also caught a shark, and we had pelican and sea lion visitors to the boat which made the trip even more incredible. We would highly recommend Pelicam Sportfishing!!

Best fishing trip Ive ever had. Captain Shaun is very knowledgeable about the area. Hes not your typical fishing charter your going to catch the biggest fish on my boat because Im the best BS. He took us out got us on the fish with in minutes. Was very knowledgeable about the fish we were catching. Even letting us know if they were worth eating or just better to through back. Not to mention hes the only charter Ive seen send the fish back down to the deep to let the fish serve . My wife and kids both felt very comfortable with the captain. Shaun and the crew where great, they took care of everything while me and my family fished. He made it very easy from the very beginning, answering the multitude of questions I had. The boat was very clean, organized and well kept. They had refreshments for us. It was my sons birthday that day. Shaun went out of his way to make that trip even more special by allowing him to drive the boat for a little bit on the way back in. Smiles from ear to ear! Ha and guess what..... we caught a ton of fish. Shaun and crew filleted and bagged them for us also. It was a all around wonderful day. Shaun did an excellent job. We had 2 reds on a single rig about 30 seconds into fishing. Knew exactly qhen to relocate and we kept fish coming in the whole time. Water was calm and no boat traffic, definitely recommend the morning charters. Very funny, courteous, and took care of everything, even cleaned th fish for us.Beyond expectations. Shaun and his assistant, Carl, took four of us out on a trip that we will never forget. We went on a 12-hour full day offshore charter and caught limits of yellowfin and some dorado and skipjack. My youngest son even hooked a marlin.All of us have been fishing many, many times so we understand that there are no guarantees. That said, Shaun worked diligently to give us the best opportunities to catch fish. During the course of the day, he received several messages and tips on various spots and he worked hard to get us on the fish. At our last stop, we had an open yellowtail bite that lasted over an hour.Shaun is extremely professional and it is obvious that he loves his job. Communication prior to departure was super easy. The boat is very nice and it can comfortably accommodate 4 guests either on the rear deck or in the cabin below.

Went on a deep sea fishing trip today and it was amazing. Shaun was awesome at making sure that we had a great time and we were able to catch lots of different fish and he was awesome at explaining what they were. The boat is awesome, small but intimate great for small groups.I would highly recommend doing this for a first time or anytime deep sea trip. Cant wait to come back and do it again!

Captain Shaun prioritizes 2 things: customer service first and catching fish second. He did an amazing job making sure we had our lines in the water and fishing. He was friendly and very informative keeping us in the loop with everything that was going on throughout the day. Secondly, Captain Shaun is a master of his craft when it comes to fishing. We were able to catch multiple species of fish using a few different techniques. Not bad considering 3 of us are new to fishing and had never been offshore fishing before. We left with grins on our faces and fish in our bags. I highly recommend Pelican Sportfishing to anyone looking to get on some fish, especially big game fish!

Shaun was very outgoing and friendly from the moment we met up until the end. The bite was a little slow at first just because of the conditions but Shaun had us on fish the entire time and as soon as the water started moving more we caught fish the entire rest of the trip and Shaun still managed to make it enjoyable even before the action picked up. All together we ended up catching a lot of fish and more importantly I was fortunate enough to learn ALOT from Shaun. We will definitely be booking more trips with him in the future.

I live in SD and researched for two weeks the best charter I could find with a great price and stumbled upon Captain Shaun and First Mate Mark at Pelican Sportfishing. After a few conversations we agreed upon a full day at Coranado Islands with my mom and her boyfriend, who is an avid fisherman and hunter. The first cast/troll at 730am produced the largest Bonito (and the strongest fish Ive ever pulled in) that the crew had ever seen. We caught a ton of Bonito (which are great if theyre bled immediately. Theyre also similar to tuna and some people dont prefer them, but theyre just as delicious), a Yellow Tail, Sculpin, Rockfish, and some amazing White Fish (perfect for fish tacos). Captain Shaun and First Mate Mark literally didnt stop working the entire time. Whether Sea Lions wouldnt stop following us, lost a few lures, needed more baits, etc...they were always on top of it. I didnt see either one of them rest for a minute. They bled the fish out right when caught and made sure they were on ice pronto. It was such a sick trip that produced a ton of food. The price is insanely worth it with these guys and I cant wait to do some offshore next July. Even thinking about hopping on an open reservation with another party here soon....thats how much fun it was. Having the fishing/vacay blues youd say. Id recommend Pelican Sportfishing 20/10 times. Shauns lifetime knowledge of the San Diego fisheries is a huge plus. On our last trip we went in late December, easily the slowest time of year for fishing the waters surounding the San Diego area and Shaun worked tirelessly and put us on fish when the other boats we saw werent catching anything that we observed. Shaun is a great host and is well connected in the local fishing scene. Well never use anyone but Shaun when fishing this area.

We chose Pelican Sportfishing to take our father and honor his last wishes by spreading his ashes in the Pacific Ocean. Captain Shaun was very accommodating and very nice. My husband booked this trip as a birthday gift to me. This ranks as my happiest birthday ever! We literally caught fish all day, as soon as our lines were put into the water. Shaun was knowledgeable of all types of fish, we caught 9 different species and took nearly 5 lbs of filets home with us for fish tacos and fish sandwiches. The entire day was so peaceful and easy, all thanks to Shaun and his willingness to help and inform. We are looking forward to our next trip with him and recommend thus trip to everyone!

I highly recommend fishing with Shaun! The boat was clean and he was extremely welcoming. I was a first timer and my boyfriend is an expert fisherman and Shaun catered to both of our needs! We caught at least 15 fish during our time and had a great overall experience.

Captain Shaun Uyeda at Pelican Sport Fishing runs a first class operation. Not only are we always on the hunt for big fish we sometimes have long runs to find the bluefin or yellowfin and Sean has no problem opening up and sharing life’s daily experiences both on and off the water. My buddy and I who usually go with Shaun are always so impressed with Shaun safety on the water but his biggest attribute is his attention to what we want to do. He never stops trying to make our experience the best he can. He never shows a ego or loses his cool all day. Our catch is cleaned and packaged for us and ready for us to transport back home. 5 stars to this man, we can’t wait to go again!!

What an amazing day on the water for my sons 15th bday!From welcoming us at the dock with a smile to coming back loaded with fish, Captain Shaun was friendly and professional the entire day. His focus is 100% on his guests.The boat is very comfortable for 4-5 people, with plenty of room to fish front and back. The fishing gear was good as well.Went to the Coronado Islands. Shauns knowledge of the ocean and fishing spots is impressive. We caught over 50 fish: yellow tail, sculpin, whitefish, lingcod, bass, barracuda - soooo many fish.Highly recommend Pelican Sportfishing!

My wife and I have looked for a good place to go fishing from Ventura County all the way down to San Diego. We have tried over 75% of the sportfishing companies in southern California and found Pelican sportfishing, and we gave it a try. The prices are fair. Shaun, the captain, keeps the boat clean and well stocked. He also provides quality poles and reels, if you need them and dont want to use your own. The groups are small and Shaun makes sure you have fun fishing. He is like one of the family and is great with kids.This is not a party boat!He takes his job very seriously and he does it professionally and is courteous.Whenever I go fishing with him, I know my group and I will have a great time and will come home with the fish I want to target. Not like other companies that take you for a fish count only.He will let you know what species fish is available for fishing at the time of the year you want to go, but remember its fishing.I would recommend Pelican Sportfishing to anyone who wants to have fun fishing and is serious about it.

I’ve gone out with Shaun multiple times, I’ve always caught fish and always have an awesome time! Shaun is very focused about making sure his customers are safe and taken care of, and he is always trying to give me a rod with a fish on the end if I can’t get them myself(great for a newbie). I’ve caught rockfish and made amazing tacos, yellowtail, and many different species. Shaun has clearly put a lot of work into his boat, it has padded guard rails which I’ve heard many people say has saved them from falling in, including myself!I will definitely be going back out with Shaun, his knowledge and work ethic make it a clear choice. Went out for a coastal fishing trip this past weekend with my wife, my buddy and his girlfriend and we had a blast! My buddy and I are avid fishermen but have never fished out of San Diego before and Shaun shared a wealth of information with us AND put us on the fish! We went on the 6 hour coastal trip and Shaun delivered an amazing experience and we loaded up the cooler with a constant bite of rockfish and almost a dozen other species. Shaun was at the dock early and brought us back late. He baited hooks for my wife & buddys girlfriend and took their fish off. The boat is in tip top shape, and all 37 fish we kept were fileted and on ice when we got back to the dock as well.Shaun is also super friendly and makes sure that YOU are the one who is catching the fish. All four of us had a great time and were looking forward to heading out with Shaun down to the Coronado Islands to chase Yellowtail next time. Ive been on many fishing charters, literally around the world, and Captain Shaun and Pelican Sportfishing are tops. Thanks Shaun!

I spoke with Captain Shaun prior to our booking, explained past trips and fish we wanted to catch on this one. The Captain suggested a 3/4 day trip heading south of the border to the Coronados Islands. Caden, my son, is quite the fisherman catching 8 yellowtail on this trip while I reeled in 2 others. The boat was super clean and our bounty stayed on ice until we were close to being back at dock. The Captain filleted our fish and bagged them in ziploc bags for us.
