This is the most amazing sailboat for a day out, rent it if you can.It was a private live-aboard for owner and wife/girlfriend as they sailed the seas,, but owner is now willing to rent it out for private day cruises in SD.wife and I had a great time on a private 4hr tour of the coast (note, not a 3 hr cruise, and the certified capital was much better than Gilligan or the skipper). Could easily handle 6+ people of private cruise.not a typical rental boat, a real private sailboat. best day, thanks capitan don

Thursday, July 18 2019 @ 1:00pm - 3:00pm Seven of our Family chartered the Spirit Yacht (largest sailing yacht in Mission Bay) via Gone Sailing. We had a blast! Great staff that made sure we all had a good time. Beautiful scenery and so fun getting to sail! THANKS!

We had a fantastic sunset sail with our Captain and crew in September of 2018. After orienting us and reviewing safety equipment and procedures, they shared the amazing history of the vessel with us, telling us about trans-Pacific passages and the tens of thousands of nautical miles she has sailed. We are novice sailors, having recently completed our first level of certification. Our Captain graciously offed me the helm and I sailed us, with his gentle coaching, along the coast of Mission Beach under perfect sailing conditions. I’ll never forget this experience!! We saw an incredible Pacific sunset, which being from New England, was absolutely incredible to witness. We were offered snacks and beverages during our sail. The Captain and crew pointed out local coastal sights and geography. They were all very warm and personable, engaging with us and discussing their own interests and love of sailing. We returned to the dock after dark and witnessed the skill of our Captain as he maneuvered this 50-60 foot yacht into her berth with just feet to spare at both the bow and stern. My family and I highly recommend Gone Sailing Charters. We had a wonderful experience!

Best time ever! Captain Sam was awesome! He was very fun to chat with and made me and my family feel comfortable. He didn’t hesitate to answer any of our silly questions and even took us too see a few other types of boats. My 3 yr old got sick and he was very attentive ensuring that we didn’t need anything. Great first experience sailings and will definitely be renting with them again and requesting him as our Captain!

When I reached out to Captain Don about possibly taking me on my first sailboat ride, and making it an overnight to the most special place I know (Catalina Island), I was excited when he said YES! He saw to it to all the details, including making sure we were comfortable and had the opportunity to learn about the beautiful sailboat, stop to look at wildlife such as dolphins, sea lions, and whales (way off in the distance), and experience everything an adventure such as this could offer. It was everything I could have dreamed about. We became good friends by the time we had to say goodbye...and that was the hardest part. I strongly recommend this company, and especially Captain Don for your adventure in the future. You will not be disappointed.

Beautiful sailboat! We had family in town and purchased a whale watching trip thru groupon. Very friendly and helpful staff. We left on time. Boat has limited seating on deck. Bathrooms available below. A few snacks for sale. We sailed on a blustery day..thankful we took Dramamine before we left. I felt bad for a few who didnt and got sick. We skirted the coast between La Jolla and Mission Bay. We had dolphins playing in the wake at the bow and saw several whales. They all dove as we approached so we were able to see their tail come up out of the water. Not much in the way of scientific info about whales but it was a relaxing and fun experience. Make sure you park in the street...hotel charges and it is expensive!

With our team of colleagues we have enjoyed a nice experince sailing in the Bay of San Diego in Feb last year. A competent skipper and experienced crew on board of a Queen of the Sea Boat. I recommend it

This was one of the most beautiful memorial services I have attended. The Captain and the crew made everything perfect. It was comfortable and everyone had an amazing experience. We used Gone Sailing Charters for a ceremony to spread my uncles ashes at sea in November 2019. Captain Marchi was kind, professional, and communicated clearly with us about the mornings agenda so we never felt rushed. He even took the time to show my 3 year-old nephew around the yacht. Spending 4 days on the water on Venere was a time of pure bliss and rejuvenation for me! The boat is in pristine condition, its big and roomy, with comfortable bed, salon, and cockpit, and its in the ideal location. The Hyatt Marina is beautiful and peaceful; just the distant occasional bark of a sea-lion, a seagull, and the gentle lap of the water on the boats hull. We had dinner at the Red Marlin one night (with the marina discount, yay!) great food and beautiful view; and we got food and ate in the cockpit watching the sunset other nights. Captain Don is super friendly and the sailing excursions we went on were top notch. During the sail on Venere, we were surrounded by thousands of dolphins and though ive been sailing all of my life, it was truly the most wonderful sailing day ever. Captain Don knows sailing like no other; handling the boat solo with no sweat whatsoever. The location is ideal as you are so close to jump out into the ocean while the Quivara Bay is so quiet, unlike the marinas in SD bay which are in the airport flight path. i will definitely be back to have another stay on Venere!

What an awesome experience! I booked a private charter for my boyfriend and myself for his birthday and it was absolutely perfect! Captain Don was friendly, professional and most importantly personable. He made us feel welcomed on his boat and also gave us some sailing education. Bernice was on the boat with us as well and she was just as great as Captain Don. She decorated the galley with a birthday banner and even catered to specific requests that I made for food and beverage. I could go on and on about how great everything was start to finish and have you reading for another 3 minutes. This is the best sailing experience ever. The water and the California coastline are beautiful. The sailboat and captain are top of the line. And the cost is incredibly low compared to what you get. Great experience staying on Captain Dons sailboat. His boat is beautiful and immaculate. Having the amenities of the hyatt right there was a great addition. Id give my stay on Capt. Dons boat 6 stars if I could! Capt Dons sailboat was clean, comfortable and beautiful! Was in San Diego for classes at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center (located only 5 minutes from the boat and marina). Facilities at the Hyatt Marina were nice, clean and the staff at the pool bar Swim were super cool and the food was great, just a minute walk from the boat. Looking forward to coming back next time we are in San Diego!

We arrived at the dock, only to find out from another boat that our charter had been cancelled - AFTER we took an Uber from our hotel in the airport vacinity to the charter. There was no message (text, email, phone call) of cancellation. Go with another charter.

We took a group of about 20 on a sunset cruise. We had a great time and had great service from the sailing staff.

Great experience. Friendly and taught my kids to sail. Relaxing and fun. Planning to do it again.

Spirit is not the boat to charter if you actually want and expect to sail. Rather, unless the winds are at least 15 knots (17 mph), you should probably be prepared to simply motor with the mainsail up. According to the owner, Don, this boat is 50,000 pounds and requires a minimum of 15 knots of winds to make 2-3 knots of headway under sail. Keep in mind small craft warnings are issued at 20 knots (23 mph). We had 8 knots of wind the evening we went out, and the headsail was never unfurled, and the motor was always on. A check of the prior few days and the 7-day forecast shows no wind over 10 knots. This said, Don and crew are attentive, offered drinks several times, brought out blankets, and made a point to engage in conversation with each group on board. The evening and sights are enjoyable, but this outing is probably best suited for non sailors who are merely wanting to get out on the water. Note: I down graded from 3 stars as a result of Don by closing his email response to mine by stating his sorrow that I could not enjoy the beautiful coastal views and company onboard Spirit. I had simply emailed him privately to express my disappointment that we did not actually sail with 8 knots of wind. There was no need to deflect feedback by casting judgment of your clients character. Sheesh.

Easily the best boat ride in San Diego, thanks again, Captain!

We booked this sailing trip based on its reviews. We have sailed many sail boats in the past and this was not a sailing tour.. The directions stated dock A near the Hyatt. Apparently there is more than one dock A. We were 5 minutes late and called to inform the Captain. He was rude abrupt and didn’t acknowledge us when we boarded. Nor were we assisted with boarding. The Captains crew consisted of his wife and another older gentlemen. He ran into a sailing regatta area and was approached by the security to go back and stay away. The Captains language was unprofessional and he used profanity in front of the passengers. We were never provided information about the area. We were charged $3 for sodas and water. No complimentary drinks or snacks. The boat basically puttered out into the bay and sat idle. Poor customer service, a sail boat in need of some updating, and a boat trip that was not sailing. Check around there are many other sailboats from which to choose.

Captain Don was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience without Hone Sailing Charters.
