Reasonably priced, quick repair even with the labor shortage

I was in the process of replacing my water pump and timing belt and while I was installing the new belt my back went into major spasm and I couldnt continue the job. I needed the job completed and a lot of places wont do a particular job if youve already started it due to insurance limitations and Ebers St garage was the closest place that I could get to finish the job for me. Everything was done for them and all that I needed from them was to line up the crankshaft and put everything back together. I had already done ALL of the difficult stuff including aligning camshafts. I literally had the new belt installed and clipped and they simply had to wrap the belt around onto the crankshaft teeth, install the tensioner and put it all together and I was charged almost $650 for them to do this. Although I appreciate the fact that they completed the job, I feel that they took advantage of the fact that I wasnt able to complete the job myself by charging that amount. When I paid for all of this I remember the guy saying how he truly appreciated the fact that I gave them the opportunity to work on the vehicle and believe me, I have no intentions of ever giving these guys the opportunity to take advantage of me ever again. I really took a look at the itemized bill today and they even had the balls to charge me $2.00 for hazardous materials when they didnt handle any nor did they dispose of any from my vehicle. Plus they charged me almost $14.00 for shop supplies, whatever that is. You have got to be kidding me.

Tony and his team are absolutely phenomenal. Ive brought my car in for a variety of reasons, some routine, some not. Every time, I got fair, honest pricing, and things were handled in a very timely manner. Never once was I tried to be up-sold or gouged for anything. This is exactly the kind of service I love when getting my car worked on. Highly recommend!

I bought an out of state truck from a new resident of Ocean Beach. We ended up going to Tony at Eber Street Garage to get the smog check done before I paid for the truck and had the seller sign the title over to me. The vehicle needed a new battery and I made the mistake of putting in a brand new battery in right before taking it to the shop for the smog check. Tony’s technician ran the test and the visual inspection passed but there were no emissions codes. Tony asked if I had gotten a new battery which I replied “I did just 20 minutes earlier”. He said that the vehicle will need to be driven a bit more for the omissions codes to populate before they can test it properly. We came back a couple days later and Tony was happy to see us back and ran the test properly within a short wait. I was relieved to see the truck had passed. Tony was informative and friendly during the entire process and made it easy to figure out what my issue was. I highly recommend the shop to anyone in Ocean Beach or the surrounding San Diego areas. Tony and his staff are very friendly and they do great work.

Chris and all the guys here are awesome. They helped us out not being from California. My son stationed in San Diego being from Virginia. We needed help and they were so helpful. Would recommend this shop to everyone. Thanks guys .

One of the best shops in San Diego I had work done on my vehicle at another shop they used really cheap parts and Ebers Street Garage helped me out hooked me up and now my car is running the best thank you so much for your dependable service and your friendly atmosphere.

They charged me for repairs but when I went to pick up the car it was still having the same issues as before. In addition, the instrument panel and power steering were no longer working. They worked when I dropped the car off and did not work when I picked it up. I brought it back and initially they acted like they were going to fix it. They were very nice and acted like they were going to resolve the issue. Then, on a day when the owner was off, someone calls me and tells me to pick up the car, they are not fixing it. When the owner was there they were great. When the owner was not there it was like dealing with overgrown obnoxious children whose parents went out of town for the weekend.They also parked the car, on the street, several blocks away and refused to go get the car, telling me to just go walk a few blocks to get it. I feel this was unprofessional and rude and I did not feel safe wandering around searching for my car. Huge lack of basic customer service. I do not believe that any of the positive reviews on here could possibly be real and I have no idea how they get away with behaving the way they do.In the end I was out the money for the initial repair, which still needed to be done, and I needed more repairs than when I had first come in.Take your car somewhere else.

I drive a convertible. One day I couldnt get the convertible to latch properly which left me unable to drive it on the freeway because it would lift at speeds higher than 55 mph. It is an electronically controlled top so there was no way to force the top into place. I went to Ebers garage - freaking because I was supposed to drive to San Clemente the next day to start my vacation - and the guys there were so wonderful. They couldnt fit me in to do a complete repair but they took the contraption that secures the roof apart - to hand crank the top into place so that I could at least drive it and not worry about the top flying off! They didnt charge me anything for that - though they were slammed with other cars to work on and they spent an hour or more on my car. I still have to make an appointment to have them fix it thoroughly so that I can use the top. I will review again once I get that repair completed sometime in the next couple weeks. Thank you to the wonderful guys at Ebers for saving my vacation!!!

We are from out of town and on our way back my truck broke down these guys got us in right away and had us back on the road the next morning for all you out of towners this is the place to go.

We have been going to this place for many years. They are honest and competent. They will tell you what they think is wrong with your car beforehand and tell how much the service and parts should be. They will also warn you that they might be wrong and it might be something else and then it should cost this much, etc.. But before they do any unauthorized work, they will call you. (In other words, as I said, they are honest.) They arent the cheapest place around but the honesty and competence is worth it, in our opinion. Much luck to them in the future!

Typical shady mechanics, got quoted over $400 more by this place once I got a second opinion from a more honest shop. Don’t let these people rob you, stay away.

Not to be trusted. They told me to drill out a bolt took four hours (they called for authorization at 830 and to pick up at 1130, thats three hours) so when i asked he said, oh i meant about four. I mean cmon, thats just dumb. Then they said they replaced it with a grade eight bolt, but what they meant was a rusty re-used one. I cant believe how unethical this place is. Dont waste your time and money!!!

Incredible service from very nice service personnel. Replaced a brake light in minutes on a drop in visit and charged me $8. I would strongly recommend.

Straight forward and honest. Gave me options that made it clear to me that theyd rather see me happy than take my money.

They checked out my old car after failing smog for 120. Said the catalytic converter was bad and they would replace it for 750 including the diagnosis 120 fee. Too much. I went to O Reilly and got a new cat converter for 160, had Vinh Phat mechanic install it for 130.So paid 120 for diagnosis with I can deal with, but they charge to much for work.

These guys were great - upfront about prices, honest about what needed and didn’t need replacing. Will take all my cars back here.

My car made a noise so i brought to Eber st. They had my car for 8 hrs and couldnt figure Out what the issues was so i took it else where, Suspension Plus, and the guys immediate realized it was a loose wheel. Ebers didnt even take off my wheels to diagnose a front wheel noise issue. Horrible lazy people is all i can say. Eber st told me it would take less than an hr. I called them 3 times and each time they said they havent got to my car. They then asked if my only car could stay there over night and then they could figure it out tomorrow and i reminded him that he said it would take less then an hr to diagnose my car so he said he will get on it now and at 5:15pm after they closed my car was diagnosed as no idea whats wrong with it. I will never go back to Eber st garage. I feel they are lazy and dont care about the customer nor their concerns...only their hard earned money...
