Hey this is the oldest biggest United States post office in #Sanantonio ! This Post Office locates directly across the street from the Alamo. Post office was built in 1935 with th intent to service all of San Antonio. It’s also a United States courthouse where a lot of cases are held not only for the city of San Antonio but the state of Texas. #Alamo #Texas #Postoffice

Although it is in a nice building and not usually very crowded, it can have significant problems. I mailed a gift to my wife in Switzerland from here and it never arrived. Moreover, after I complained I received no reply for months. When I rented a Post Office Box, they gave me the wrong key, twice! And I once had to complain about being charged a different amount on my credit card that on the receipt they gave me. While things can be corrected, it does not create trust in this Post Office.

Just remember when you go here they do a serious security check. No perfume is allowed or sharp objects. They make you throw it away or you can try putting it outside or just don’t bring. There is a snack room there. Last time I went there was only one worker and a line, Not very long but it’s nice to go here as it’s beautiful.

This is a beautiful old building worth visiting just to see the architecture, light fixtures and old-school charm. The guards in the front and post office employees are super friendly and helpful. I went to get my passport renewed - I was the only one there, and the process was super fast, no waiting and painless. Whenever Im downtown this is the P.O. I use. Parking can be tricky but there are metered spaces a couple of blocks away on 3rd Ave. near the Scottish Rite temple and I almost always find a spot there no problem. Today there was even an unexpired parking sticker on the payment machine so my parking was free too!

I stop here for all my mail service, and I feel powerful as all hell walking into a building like this, it is gorgeous. The place is never busy so Im in quick and out quick unlike any other post office and the clerks here were incredibly helpful in every occasion Ive come by, even helping me get a passport with information no other post office was really sure about. There is a security check at the front door, metal detector, bag checker and all, but its never been a bother.

I walked in 2:25 and the clerk refused to help. He said he closed in three minutes and slammed the window down on our face. We arrived with an infant and he refused to service us. Our business was a quick matter. Very disappointed this one employee. The security was more helpful and pleasant.

Its about 4:15 pm. I have just tried to call the San Antonio TX main post office twice. No answers. Does a person have to actually be standing in the lobby, at the window to get these people to do the job that they are paid for. Answering the phone should be a part of their job description. If they are that busy maybe the Postmaster needs to get off his exalted arse and help serve the public. I realize that the government actually assisting a citizen is a novel one for all government employees. Perhaps the people should unite and force these slackers to be replaced with those who have a work ethic.

Save yourself time and go to a real post office. This branch is located in a federal court building, so be prepared for body scanners and metal detectors just to get in the door. Have a fingernail file or multi tool in your pocket/purse/bag and you wont be allowed entry.

This is an excellent example of 1930s, pre-World War II industrial art. It is located in the post office / Courthouse in San Antonio.
