The atmosphere at Big Derricks was quite enjoyable. First off, its on the lower level of the Reed Opera House, thats pretty cool in and of itself. Second, the whole space/shop front consists of windows, so it doesnt feel like a small confined space in a basement. Once I got in, their was a big flat screen TV with classic boxing matches playing and streaming music playing through a speaker that filled the whole shop. The music and TV volume were at the perfect level to where you could still hear them but also able to carry on a conversation without having to talk over them.My appointment was with Jess, and she didnt require much time to hook me up with an awesome skin fade that Ill be rockin for the next two weeks! She even took a few moments to check for, and trim, any abnormal eyebrow and ear hairs while she had me in the chair. It really shows that she knows what shes doing, and shes good at it! Ive already booked my next cut with her.

Nice simple haircut but they dont know the basics of wearing a mask. One of the barbers was wearing it as a chin diaper and one customers didnt even have one on. Also obnoxious music.

The only place I get my hair cut now. Definitely a mans place, usually some adult language being used, something rated R being played on the TV, and of course there is beer and a small bar for the patrons to have a drink. But all of that is why I love it. Reasonably priced especially since drinks are built into the price, and good haircuts.

Amazing guys. Offered me a shot of whiskey while we were getting my hair cut. South park was playing in the background.My barber made me look and feel like a million bucks! I kept telling him that I dont need anything fancy since I work at home, and he could have finished the cut in 5 minutes. But he took his time and made me look really good. This was my First visit as I recently had moved to Oregon for the College school year. Walked in and met with my Barber Pablo showed him what I wanted to have and let him work his magic. Chill atmosphere overall. Amber is great! Im pretty nervous about trying new styles, but I was in need of an update. Also important to note I dont understand much about hair styles. Amber was patient, and helped me figure out what I really wanted. Some barbers will just give you whatever you say you want and assume you know, Amber made sure I was getting what I wanted. She is the one for a great cut! A shop is made by the people who work there, and Amber is awesome.

Got a nice cut close to work with little disruption to my work day. The staff are friendly and professional. Im never sure what I want in a haircut but Elisa asked good questions and helped me figure out something that works.

Let me preface by saying these guys are very good; Ive only been here twice but both times my cut has been exceptional.If youre planning on going in a Saturday though, make an appointment. I waited over two hours as a walk-in (my own fault) until somebody had an opening. Theyre completely slammed on the weekend.Its a relaxing place to hangout, they have a pool table, fooseball, and a TV. They also have a PS3 but Ive never seen anybody actually play it. Whats really cool is they have complementary whiskey bar while you wait. Theyre pretty lax about it, I look young for my age (22) but nobody said anything when I helped myself. If thats not your thing, they keep the fridge stocked with craft beer.The cut itself was impressive, I have some pretty thick, unruly hair so it was nice to get what I actually asked for. The price are fair, even with a tip. They also have some quality pomades in stock.Its definitely a unique place, has sort of a everybody-knows-everybody kind of vibe. I would definitely recommend.

First time client. Walked in on a Saturday about 3:00 knowing they could be backed up. Was seated by Michael within 15 minutes. Looked like 8+ staff working. My cut was great and and I appreciated Michael listening to me as I asked for a few adjustments. During the time I was in the chair, I noticed a lot of great cuts with precise attention to detail. Ill come back!

Great place, all of the barbers are great, my man Brian Gomez is new here but if you want an awesome hair cut he is my go to guy, but as far as I can tell everyone here does a great job. Great atmosphere and if you have to wait there are some cool places nearby you can visit. Although walk-ins are welcome this place is busy and it may take a bit to be seen if an appointment isnt made.

Brittany Bowman, is hands down one of the best people to style and cut your hair. I used to just get a normal trim, which was boring. She implemented a style that I have stuck with since shes been at Big Derricks. I havent gone to anyone else (sorry -not sorry- guys), because I trust her and believe that shell always have my best interests in mind when it comes to cutting my hair. She even takes the time to keep notes on every client. Amber seems very passionate about what she does. This is one of the best barbershops in town. Derrick has created something special. Derrick, Diego and Payton all have cut my hair and each are extremely talented. A friend of mine had his hair cut by Amber and was so happy with the results! My grandsons love to have Diego cut their hair, my only complaint is one barber in general needs to understand when G language is appropriate, special words that rhym with duck should be used elsewhere.

Got a walk in haircut at this historic looking barber shop. They have free beer/alcohol, so I had a little whisky. My barber had me looking sharp. It was a really good experience.

I had 2 consecutive haircuts at this place. I was pretty happy with the results despite the messy/loud atmosphere. On my third appointment, I was running late, so I called to let my barber (Payton) know that I am outside trying to find a parking spot. He said well, I have someone else taking care of, youre late. I said I am exactly 7 minutes late! He said Well, thats exactly our threshold; 7 minutes. Sure, because I am dealing with NASA! Not only a straight lie, but also a very unapologetic attitude. Not to mention that he had me wait for 15 minutes before. I wont be back. And will make sure to warn all my acquaintances. I am only writing this review to save people in our community a disappointment. I guess its time to find a professional barber again.

Great haircuts every time (four different barbers) here. They offer barber shop conversation if youre into that. They always offer you a drink, which I havent accepted because usually on break from work

This is by far the best barber shop Ive ever been to. The staff is friendly and efficient. Even when I cant get into my main barber I manage to get my hair cut by another amazing barber. Everyone knows what they are doing and are very attentive to what you are asking.

Amazing experience. I wont go anywhere else. Its in the Reed Opera House so sometimes I have to walk a little bit if I cant find a close parking spot. But just to describe how much I love coming here, I broke my leg, had a splint on it and had to use crutches. Before I had surgery, I wanted to get my hair cut, so I got a ride here, used my crutches for about a block and navigated my way down stairs just to get a hair cut. I literally wont go anywhere else. Not only do they do the best job but they are super cool and nice.

My toddler HATED haircuts especially with clippers. Johnny got him to sit calmly and even was able to use clippers on his second haircut! They are wonderful, nice, sell great products for men. There is pool and whiskey while you wait, sports on the tv, and even a little car chair for small children. We will never go anywhere else.

I have been going to get a haircut from Dusan for several years now. I love the quality of the haircut and the relaxed atmosphere of the shop. You can have a drink or a shot while you wait and then enjoy a straight razor shave and a haircut.

Only thing I like about this place was the lady that cut my hair. She was wonderful. Lots of swearing and just rude as far as some of the guys there. Which I don’t mind but there was a handful of young children there at the Tim and I just think it’s inappropriate. Surprised this shop is still in business. I now go to local boys much better all around.

Ive had two haircuts from this shop since December. The first was from Brian who did amazing work, he is definitely worth going to but this review isnt about him. I just had a haircut from Kelsea and I wouldnt return to have her cut my hair. She took chunks of hair way shorter than others with the electric razor on the sides where it should be even and left lines of longer hair. Where the short and long parts of the cut meet with a hard part she was not able to make the shorter length even at the edge of the part. There was no attention to detail, it felt as if she just wanted to get things done as fast as possible.

This is the place to go for a beard trim. Bailey Harper is an absolute rock star!

The barbers are great guys to BS with. They have whiskey and beer to sink whilewaiting. Most importantly, they give a good cut. Also straight razor shave is an option.

There is no real way to fully describe the experience. Verbiage like Awesome, Amazing and Cool dont begin to cover it. The best way to describe it is like walking into an old-school barbershop but with a healthy dose of a vintage-modern vibe.Things like decor and layout and all that are easy, just throw money at it. What these guys have achieved is ambiance, and that cant be bought or painted on. The staff are easy going and friendly and, dare I say, craftsmen. I got the best haircut I have ever had and at my age, and given the number of haircuts I have had, thats saying something.Thus is a place where you can feel at ease being a man. Its not the put-on pretension of a sports bar or some lame hunting lodge boutique, but almost a throwback to when real men were commonplace and being a man was a virtue, not an aberration.Every one of the barbers there were friendly and at ease with each other and the customers, cracking jokes, making wise and talking with the customers they were working on and those waiting, occasionally stopping to check how their cut was going or to concentrate on what they were doing. Some of the clients were long-time clients back after a time away and each of the barbers knew them and remembered exactly what they wanted. Sitting and watching was a tour-de-force in customer service.I cannot speak highly enough of my experience at Big Derricks and I will be back. Many times.

Usually an 1+ wait(even with an appointment) and then the hair cut itself can take upwards to 45 mins.Dont get me wrong- everyone does a PHENOMENAL job, but I think they could improve on their scheduling.
