Had CV joint and head gasket replaced last month, total cost was about $1,000. Was told it would take 2-3 hours so I waited. It took 6. I know it’s not an exact science, but at least give an honest assessment. I would have arranged for a ride rather than hanging for 6 hours.That said, I wouldn’t have written this negative review, except for the fact that I had a $60 coupon I forgot to give them after service (because I had brain fog after sitting for 6 hours). I called/ emailed the next day and asked if I could get the rebate. I got no call back, no response. I emailed a second time…no response. It’s only $60, so the money is not the issue, it’s the fact that I am a long time customer and get no response. Poor service and very unprofessional.

This shop take advantage of us we let them know that there was Freon at the right pressure and thought that it was the compressor causing the issue instead they told us the diagnostic was an evac and recharge and then testing the components. And quoted me $189 on the phone when they had a coupon online for $109 when I brought the coupon in there was a mystery charge of $20 for the die that they had to put in the system we explained to them what we found out so far and they explained that we still needed to do an evac and recharge when its simple diagnostic would it just cost us $39 we it was holding pressure as we explained and the company took $150 from us just to say it was the compressor which is what we already kind of knew and now they want to charge $1,700 to replace a compressor when we found out the compressor is actually $350 if you want to get robbed to go to tuffys. I highly recommend you go somewhere else Im happy to remove this if you reimburse me my money. Which Im sure you wont since you have no business ethics at all.

Saw mechanic smoking in shop and they do not seem to be familiar with my vehicle and how it works. I have been getting my oil changes for a while here but I will NEVER use this place again and recommend you do not trust them with your vehicle.

Recently decided to drop back in as this location is very close to my home. First and foremost, it appears only “5” star reviews receive a response from the corporate computer. Which is fine. However, people need to know that once again this place is under new management and they press, attempt and try hard to push services that are not needed. I used to receive free tire rotations with any oil changes, yet no more. I used to receive free diagnostics, yet no more. They advertise free brake inspections but that’s only because that gives them a reason to push thousands of dollars of unneeded repairs. The “new” manager or assistant Mike is rude. He didn’t clearly or understandably explain my issue or how to proceed and I was left wondering if there really is an issue. Such a disappointment after enjoying this place so much with Ken and Tim running it. I’m currently shopping around town for another place and I highly suggest everyone else do the same. I really do.

Good, honest, service. I love that they never seem to tell you that your vehicle has this random myriad of issues. They tell the truth - which I definitely appreciate. Also, the pricing of all their services is among the best that Ive seen. Happy to call this place my mechanic shop.

My kids and I spent four hours here this morning, and we couldnt have had a better experience! Tim was super helpful and made me feel like his only customer. My kiddos were entertained by Disney junior and the toys that they had in the waiting room. To say that a trip to the shop was a fun experience feels overkill, but it wasnt the worst. We survived an experience that could have been the worst. Also, the prices and service were unbeatable!

Can’t say enough good about this place! I got an estimate on some work at an Automotive place that was $700. I promptly said No and brought my car here. After thoroughly examining the issue, they found a very simple fix that wasn’t the major part that the other place wanted to replace. The cost for the part was under$50!A second problem that I was going to be charged $1400 for at the other place, these guys enabled a way to track the issue for a few days to make sure of the source rather than guess. Those were THEIR words.Men of integrity! You can trust them.

There are a lot of auto repair places. Ive been to Car-X / Tuffy for years with varying results. There is one main reason that I go back now - Ken the Manager! Ken has been so great, he has a wonderful attitude and makes you feel confident in his assessment of the work. Most business is built on trust and many auto repair shops dont inspire much trust. Ken shows himself to be trustworthy. I will continue to visit this Tuffy as long as hes there.

This place is awesome. Ask for Mike. He was super patient and respectful to my wife, worked low to high to troubleshoot the problem, was timely, and even stayed late for my lady to pick up the vehicle...on a Saturday. Highly recommend!

Went for battery charging malfunction, i was charged for 250 dollars to change the Serpentine Belt, the belt is 29.99 in stores,better not to go here if we dont know about carEdit (Aug 25)- Trying to reduce single star to 0 star, cuz i went to another service center for routine check-up, they found belt tensioner is very loose needs to changed, then realized i recently changed belt with Tuffy might caused me another issue and expenses :(

Originally found this place due to proximity from my home, about half a mile away. Sent my wife for tires and they gave us a good price and offered to mount the one we kept if we got a rim for a spare. Quoted a reasonable price on brakes (front axle) that we were planning on doing soon anyways. Came back a second time for the brake work. We came in with no notice each time and the wait was reasonable and fair. Very straight forward and honest when we spoke. Ill be a long time returning customer because of the positive candid experience I had both times and the honest and fair customer experience.

Great service, and very timely! They werent pushy about things I wanted to wait on or do myself. They were even honest enough to tell me when they werent comfortable with a certain service and recommend another specialist. I had a great experience with this shop and will certainly be returning and I would recommend Tuffy to anyone. Just buy your own parts. 2x markup isnt fun but unfortunately thats the industry.

Went in for an oil change. They also kindly rotated my tires. Everything was going smooth easy and simple. I was on my way home and my car started shaking horribly. I called the shop and Alex said come on back lets look at it. Turns out my tires along with being rotated needed to be balanced, that is what was causing the horrible shaking. They said it would be $10, I knew I could get it for free at discount tire, so I asked them to just put the tires back the way it was and Ill have discount take care of me. Alex went ahead and balanced my tires and sent me happily on my way. Thanks for going above and beyond yall. Totally made a long day end on a great note. I look forward to having yall be my car dr. Poor service. Some new manager named Michael was rude to my wife after she declined $1300 in extra services. They made her pay for a tire rotation which has always been free. All of the associates here are new. Ken and Tim never tried to sell us something we didnt need. Buyer beware, check to make sure the recommended services are needed. They tried to sell my wife a coolant flush at 57,000 miles even though our manual shows it due at 120,000 miles. They couldnt tell my wife why the early recommendation other than thats what the company recommends. Sorry, Ill trust Toyota over Tuffy.

This place is terrible. My mother and I took my car in to get a simple oil change (with a coupon) and right off the bat, the manager suggested getting the synthetic blend oil (which is more expensive and the coupon does not apply). I have been assured before by other mechanics that my car does not require that and if someone suggests getting it, theyre just trying to get more money from me. We drop my car off and run some errands and while we are out, my mother gets a call that we really need to replace a belt. Now, I am not even going to pretend that I know a thing about cars, which makes me trust certain mechanics even less because I know that fact is very obvious. After picking my car up and nearly $200 later, I drive off the lot and my A/C is no longer working. I mentioned I had an issue that would pop up with my A/C over the summer but that I hadnt had the problem since. When I called back to let the manager know that my A/C no longer worked at all, his response was that he told me that might happen and that I should bring it back in to get a full diagnostic to find the problem which would cost $99 before he found the issue. This timing seemed very suspicious to me since it was working perfectly when I dropped it off. The manager had no empathy or customer service skills and simply asked, well, what do you want me to do then? I didnt want to be charged to take it back in to have them look at my car to see what went wrong when I dropped it off and he said he couldnt do that. I will not be taking my business to this place again, expensive lesson learned. I felt like I was taken advantage of by this business.

Had to get my car inspected. They were quick and extremely friendly. Listened to them explain in detail to a customer what all was involved in something that was needed. Customer felt so much better and knew what was going on. I was impressed and will use them in the future.

Im not sure what happened to the other people but Ive been taking all my cars and trucks here for more than a year and have had no problems. They have put on spares for free, read and cleared codes for free, and provided lots of great advise. When I need them to do a repair they do it right and at a fair price. I agree with the review that said inspections take forever. But it is like that no matter where we go, they say 45 minutes and we are sitting in the waiting room for an hour and a half! Overall, this Car-X is great and I hope it stays that way since finding a great repair shop alternative to the dealership is not easy.

If you want to be helped by Angels, go to Tuffy. I am a single mom who woke up with an almost flat tire, just imagine that. I am a woman who can take care of anything, anything but cars. Ive been to Tuffy once before, I had no idea what light went on my dashboard, they were so nice and helped me in a few minutes. Now back to the second time which was a day ago, the almost flat tire, that day I had two meetings, had an ill son, had a LOT on my plate and the flat tire made me almost cry. When I walked in to Tuffy, I was talking about my trouble in a silly way, because I had no idea what was going on with my vehicle, for the second time, they were so nice, they took my key and told me in a very nice way that itll be okay, I simply calmed down, and it turned out to be very okay. Left here feeling like I can finally trust a mechanic shop. Asked for a brake inspection because of noise. The guys up front got me right in and the technician explained to me what my issue was. He explained the noise was due to moisture and didn’t try to sell me anything. Was fully expecting to pay a couple hundred bucks.

Hands down the most honest auto shop we have dealt with. We took our car in thinking it needed a new alternator. Tuffy fixed the issue and did not charge us because it was such an easy fix.

I took my truck in for an oil change. They came in and told me I needed an oil pan gasket and I was kinda iffy but I asked him why and the manager took me outside and showed me why I needed it and explained to me what the process was, and what the part was there for. Their salesman and mechanics are very knowledgeable and they are very nice and helpful. They even picked me up and dropped me off.Thank you so much! My truck runs like a champ!I would def. They have a coupon for a 24.99 oil & filter change with tire rotation. Got there and he said the 24.99 oil change was not available, and that oil was horrible, he would never recommend putting that oil in a car (yet he was OK advertising it). My daughter was going on a trip the next day and I did not have time to go elsewhere, so I agreed to the 39.99 oil change, but I will never go back.They then recommended an additional $250 (or so, dont recall the exact amount) of additional maintenance (replace brake fluid, air filter, etc.), which I declined.

I called Tuffy in Round Rock when a man named Scott answered the phone. Scott and I were discussing struts because I have a problem with my drivers side strut. Scott assumed that I wasnt going to just do the strut assembly with my dad and was very quick when he replied with thats like going to H.E.B. Getting a steak and asking outback to cook it while he was laughing at me making me feel uncomfortable for even asking. I quickly replied with Well Scott, I hope your day gets better because I do not like your energy and I am going to get off the phone now. Ive ordered plenty of my own parts and other places have installed them, do not fall into the SCAM OF PEOPLE THESE ARE!

Unfortunately they are under new management and the guys who did such a great job in the past are gone.

I have been here for state inspection twice, honest and fast service. No extra “fix this” .

Not knowledgeable, I asked them if they turn rotors, give them year, model, and show them rotors. I asked if they had proper adapters. I got the hey, hey reply. Im told they would be done that night or next morning. I call next morning and they arent able to do them. No one had informed me. They claim they called and left a message. With cellphones those false claims are laughable.

Went in a few minutes before they opened and still wasnt first in line! The wait wasnt too bad, only about 30 minutes. Service was friendly and there was free WiFi while I waited. Plus theres a donut shop and Starbucks fairly close if you have to wait awhile. Id take my cars there again in the future.

They charged 250% of the part cost, which they admitted to. Labor was $300 for a 1 hour job, per the Mechanic Labor Time Guide, and a mechanic friend, and lied about it. When we picked up the car the AC didnt work and had to take it back. They forgot to plug something in when replacing the part. A $400 job was $700. Will never go back, and spreading the word. Hope the extra $300 in profit was worth it.

I put a stud on my wheel and they charged me 1 hour of labor. It took them less than 30 minutes and I had to push for them to give back my car. I believe they were planning to hold my car for the whole hour so they could charge me a whole hour and say the job took that long. Overpriced and no respect for the customers time, they did the job so I gave them 2 stars, but I would never go again. The price is about 140 an hour and they charged me for 13 for shop supplies.

Called in the morning to ask how long a state inspection would take given their line: 40 minutes.Arrived 5 minutes later and told it would now take an hour and 30 minutes.Called 2 hours later after my car had been there for 2 hours...will take an additional 2-3 hours and there are still 2 people ahead of you.I now have to go pick my car up and drop it off somewhere else since they may not ever get to it.Completely unprofessional.

It includes per their website, oil, filter, tire rotation.Was told our VW had to have a premium special oil, beyond their best Valvoline for an extra $10.00. OK-ish with that so far... Maybe...But, as we just had a nail plugged in the left rear tire and that tire was chalk marked, knowing that, youd expect to see that tire on the front. Its not. No rotation done. All tires do have about even wear, and are well above the wear bar.just checked literally as I write this.The computer suggested (yes, not a tech, but the computer suggested struts and shocks) - which are actually OK.Rightfully though, for purposes of inspection, at least they correctly identified brake pads due - which were declined due to Autozone being far cheaper and better quality. Front rotors too, and again thats fair enough. Diagnosis is fine on that front.Appreciate everyone needs to make a living and make a profit. Thats very reasonable to understand and get with. Just a different set of tactics at this branch which didnt leave a good impression.Of course, there is always two sides to service related feedback, and Ive attempted to be fair and honest in this review, like all others... Personally Id not trust them again with my business. Maybe your experience would / could be better.

Steve specifically has taken care of two of my cars and dealt with me not picking up my car right away. Ended up going way above and beyond expectations and I seriously reccomend this specific Tuffys because Steve is amazing.

They installed an Interstate battery in my car, which company is known for their excellent warranty exchange program. This was part of some other work they performed on my AC (which failed a few months later). I had the battery tested at Autozone: bad. I took it to Car-X for an exchange and they refused service since THEY forgot to itemize it on my bill of service. I called the Interstate battery customer service, which told me the battery date is laser etched on the battery, and that I didnt need a receipt for exchange. They then referred me to a more competent service center which agreed to take care of me. I will never go to Car-X again, and will tell all of my friends to avoid it.

They quoted me $800 for my brakes did them somewhere else for $110. The parts were quoted x4 the autozone price. They werent helpful at all. Not recommended. And hopefully the owners teach their salesperson not a mechanic some costumer service skills. Like treat your costumers with respect.

Please do not bring your vehicle here.On top of shorting their employees pay and not adhering to fair labor work standards laws in Texas, Doug Stine (District Manager) tried to get me to break and install a starter on a Mazda 3 that was incorrect. When I refused and ultimately quit because of the Car X policies, Mr Stine called the police. The starter was broken by another technician the following day and installed without the customers knowledge. This is the most dishonest and unprofessional shop I have ever worked at in my 25 years in the automotive industry. Take your car to a reputable shop with trained technicians that can and will repair your vehicle honestly and correctly.

Mixed bag experience. Got my AC on the Odyssey fixed there, price was competitive. Then my starter broken, they charged an arm and leg for it, almost felt they took advantage of my situation. In top of that, they must put in some low quality part. I kept getting stranded and finally figured out it was the bad starter they put in. But it was fixed under warranty.

The oil change was done well and professional. The coordination of getting the serivce was the issue with me. I had made an appointment the day before and been told that a bay would be reserved for me at 10am. Dropped off the car 10 mins early. Left for an hour and 15 mins. When I was walking in my car was going in for the oil change. I had made the appointment at 10 so that I would not be late for my noon appointment. I was told that the air filter needed changing. Fine. The tech was very professional and the service is what I paid for. I will not be using this location again. I have another one close and I have not been disappointed there.

Just an okay service center, but typical of repair centers, as they twice tried a bait and switch on me, trying to upgrade from a coupon to make more money. Waiting area is clean, but small with inadequate access for long waits die to very inconvenient computer power access. Manager was less than inviting... not much of a people person.

Nice folks but classic bait and switch.I show up and request for the $24.99 basic oil change and a state inspection. They say the conventional oil is out, so I go ahead and upgrade to the $39.99 oil change that is supposed to include free wipers.Upon completion, I pay my dues and proceed to the car. Out of curiousity, I check to see if the wipers have been replaced. Alas! my old wiper blades are still on.So I go back in and report, to which they promptly appologize. They quickly inform me that the said wipers are out of stock too. The manager goes on to give me a talk about how I should go to an autoparts store and puchase some good quality wipers, which the auto parts guys would install for me free of charge. SMDHI thank them, walk outside, only to realize that the state inspection I requested for has not been performed either.Long story short - They did appologize, but there were one too many dings for my liking. I hope this helps someone.

Im not sure whats happened with the other reviews, but I had an excellent experience. My son had a BIG problem with a wheel, and after limping in with no appointment, at first we were told it was a HUGE repair. After everything was checked out we found it wasnt nearly as bad as they thought at first and the bill was about half of what Id first been quoted. The work was finished the same day and it was a quality job. My husband is an Army mechanic and when Id showed him photos of the problem and explained what I was told, he said that they were dead on and hed have done the same thing if hed been home. Ive never had a service place tell me that if I want a second opinion theyd be perfectly happy helping me get the truck wherever I needed it to be. Im sorry others have had bad experiences, but mine was waaaay above average.

Worst place ever! I had a valve gasket cover changed and right away the leak got worse than it originally was. I took the car back to them and a service rep told me that the leak was coming from another source because pressure had built up. That didnt make sense to me, so I waited to talk to the manager the next day. He told me to bring a new valve cover gasket and that he would change it without charge. I drop off the car and told later that day that the leak was coming from somewhere else. Duh! After all that I decide to take it to Japanese Motorsports and come to find out the valve cover gasket was put on wrong. I had oil all over the engine. If CarX would have at least taken off the valve cover once out of the two times I brought it back, I wouldnt have had the problem. The worst part is that I couldnt even get a refund for the labor or the part. Lube techs doing mechanic work? The manager and service reps are incompetent. Dont waste your money with this place.
