Seeing all the positive reviews, we selected New Wave for our sons haircut. Service was fast and the appointment time was respected, however our experience was disappointing in other ways, including both a poor cut and an extra surcharge based on my 9-year old sons supposedly thick hair, as well as a mandatory minimum tip based on the new amount. (Maybe I am old fashioned, but is tipping not a generally discretionary item based on service provided and level of contentment with that service?) This might have been OK - if expensive - for a kids haircut but the cut itself was not well done and didnt even include a shampoo wash.I am a strong supporter of local businesses, but I also believe that customer should receive a service as promised in terms of price, and reasonably done according to minimum quality expectations. Our experience at New Wave failed to meet those most basic criteria. Not worth the $50.

My curly girl cut was great but double what I’ve paid before, she stuck me under a dryer and didn’t style it so it did not look good after, and they require cash for tips. I’ll try to find a curly girl cut somewhere cheaper. If I can’t, I might go back for a cut only—and bring cash.

PLZ READ BEFORE GOING TO THIS SALON. My hair will be ruined until it completely grows out.I went to Nidal and He teased my entire head of hair from top to bottom. It took three people brushing my hair and 3 hours to untangle it. Not to mention, it was painful. I have an unbelievable amount of breakage after having none prior. Then, I went to check out and it was $200 more than they said it was over the phone. I called the salon to let them know about my experience and the women told me I would get a refund and for the difference I was told. I got there and the owner said “absolutely not” and he gave me a gift card to get my nails done. As if I would trust anyone here again.

I am going to be honest with you, I would not be writing this review if I was not so upset. I made an appointment at New Wave Salon to get a cut and style a month ago. I work two jobs and I am also in the middle of moving, so my days are very scheduled. I was already skeptical when they did not ask me what my hair texture was or anything more in detail about what I wanted since this would be my first time there. I called yesterday, 9/14/2020, to confirm my appointment (they did not call to confirm or send a notification to confirm I had to) and also told the receptionist that this should be for a Deva Cut. She kept telling me my appointment was confirmed and we both hung up. I came to the salon today, 9/15/2020, and the person that was there was not able to give me a Deva Cut. Both her and receptionist apologized profusely and called all their Deva stylists and even another hair salon to see if they could take me (I also want to point out that I asked if the salon prices at the place they were calling was the same as theirs, they said yes. I looked it up and New Waves price according to their website is $90 and the place they were calling would have ran me $125-$160). Since they at least tried I gave them two stars instead of one. However, I think it is a little unprofessional to be unprepared, especially when I called to confirm the day before. I left the salon with my hair untouched. They offered to take me tomorrow at 8am, but like I said since my days are very scheduled and I am actually moving tomorrow, I ultimately decided against it. Im very upset that this was my first impression of this salon, especially when I had such high hopes to try a new salon.

Needed help with my hair. Found their name listed on Google as ten best saloons in Rockville, MD.I’m In town from Florida and had no idea where to go.Took a chance and called them. I explained what a mess my hair was in, they explained John could handle my problem. Nervous but have him a try, He was terrific and very satisfied. The salon was clean but could use a little upgrade.

Amazing salon. I let “Elie” decide what to do with my hair and Im always thrilled with the results. I get lots of compliments for weeks after a visit. Elie is also very generous in teaching me how to handle my hair. I definitely recommend this salon and Elie to everyone who would like to have a beautiful exotic look.

I love going to this salon. They treat you like family. Michael has done my hair for years and it always comes out beautiful and sophisticated. Marian does fabulous job on the color. I recently moved to Maryland and had put off getting my hair cut because I didnt want to have to find someone. I had an appointment with Mimi today to tame my very curly hair and she was amazing! Incredibly knowledgeable and patient with all of my questions. I highly suggest her for anyone with curly hair. Ill definitely be back!

The cut itself was good, but it was the overall experience that would keep me from going back. It was my one and only time there, and it definitely gives a snooty/uppity vibe. The stylist did a decent job, but they constantly made mean comments about the state of my hair. It was a pretty bad experience, because I went in to feel pretty, but left feeling hurt. I would say its definitely the place for you if you are rich and already have nice hair. If not, you may feel out of place and I would suggest going to a more down to earth salon.

I was a little nervous about getting my haircut and colored because of the Coronavirus.The salon takes CDC guidelines there was no customer on either side of me or behind me.My stylist MarianRios always spends a lot of time. I love this place! I spent so much time and many going to other salons and never really had any luck with a place I liked. I decided to try this place out and I am SO glad I did. I love this salon and dont trust anyone besides Michelle T with my hair and it has been this way for years. I have super thick, curly hair that not a lot of people can style very well. Up until meeting Michelle, my hair was dull and style-less but now I am constantly getting compliments. I would recommend her to ANYONE!

Found this Salon on Yelp, with a bunch of reviewers specifically recommending Zach for a mens haircut. I made an appointment, and I wasnt sure what to expect, but in the end, the experience was great, and Zach gave me a fantastic haircut. Would highly recommend - Ive been going back every couple of months ever since.

Mimi is amazing! I have extremely difficult curly frizzy hair and Mimi is the only stylist in my life where I leave the salon looking great and without feeling like I need to redo my hair before being seen in public! I’m not joking. She also handles my color, I’m a graying dirty blond and she does a superb job of blending highlights and lowlights so that it grows out nicely between appointments. I used to have to touch up my roots myself every 2 weeks, not any more, I go to Mimi every 8 weeks and she handles it all. I drive all the way from WV to see her and will continue to do so.

Five stars for Nidal and Anna G. They turned my super dark black hair to beautiful blonde. The process took a while but they were extremely patient and took their time making it perfect- even after hours! Thank you both so much!!!

Im devastated. Ive cried every day since I got my hair cut here. I came in wit beautiful long hair that took me 6 years to grow out. I left with a mullet. AND I paid $85 for the privilege.I went in with long hair halfway down my back in bad need of a trim. I said Id like some layering but emphasized that I DID NOT WANT SHORT LAYERS, especially since I often wear my hair curly.The longest layer is past my shoulders. Then theres suddenly these short, ragged layers. THE SHORTEST LAYER IS 4 INCHES. when I wear my hair curly, its even shorter and it sticks straight out. like bangs, all the way around my head.I cant style a f**king mullet. Every day, I attempt to style my hair and am devastated. I end up crying and pinning it into a ponytail, which requires a hundred bobby pins since the mullet layer wont even fit into a pony.I came here for a refresh after a break-up to spoil myself. Instead, my beloved long hair was butchered. Im out $85 and I feel absolutely hideous and awful about myself. This is the worst haircut Ive ever gotten. Now begins the long, long journey of trying to grow my hair back out.

I am in love with new wave and I swear I will be loyal to this salon. When I go to salons I exercise myself not to expect too much because I’ll end up being disappointed. However, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I ACTUALLY FELT SATISFIED! Zach Sayag did a wonderful job on my hair. I’ve been wanting curls for awhile but I am scared yet he assured me I won’t look like a poodle and sure did, I DID NOT! Ask for Zach and he will do magic on your hair!

There are lots of stylists here, but I only have experience with Terrell, who does excellent curly cuts on dry hair.

The salon staff are all highly qualified, friendly and are the utmost professionals. I have been a regular at New Wave for many, many years. Janita did a great job coloring my hair. We found that she didnt have the exact color in stock but worked with me to mix a color that I loved. I highly recommend new wave if youre going to color your hair or just get styling done in general

Mimi ( pronouced me me) is my stylist at new wave salon. She is awesome and one of the best stylist there. She cuts, color ( highlights and low lights ), and styles my hair. MiMi has been my stylists for many years and I receive compliments on my hair all the time. She specializes in curly hair (...but can do everything ) and she .does the best curly cut that I have seen. You will not be disappointed if you choose her as your stylist.

UPDATE: The salon saw my review and got in touch with me for a refund/fix. Given the choice between the two I chose the refund and went into the salon so they could process it onto my card. The stylist who did my cut hovered around the reception desk for the entire interaction! It was so odd and unprofessional! While I’m certainly appreciative that the salon took it upon themselves to reach out to me and make it right, I can’t believe they let the stylist in question just stand there while their services are being refunded to an upset client. I felt extremely awkward and couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Never again!!I was incredibly disappointed with my experience here yesterday. I made a noon appointment on a weekday, so I knew it would be busy, but I wasn’t prepared for being rushed through my haircut and being made to feel like I wasn’t an important enough customer to bother with. My stylist didn’t listen to me when I was trying to talk about what cut I wanted, literally left me mid-haircut to talk to other clients and staff, and didn’t even bother putting the protective cape back on me when half-heartedly completing my haircut after my curl set, leaving me awkwardly covered in hair. She even kept asking me what treatments I had received and had trouble giving the reception desk my total because she literally had no idea what she had just done/asked the technician to do. With the prices they charge at this salon, plus two tips (stylist and technician), I was definitely hoping to leave feeling beautiful. I left feeling totally awful, almost in tears. I will NOT be back and I will tell others to stay away! Two stars instead of one because the technician was awesome and did her best to be nice to me (I think she could tell my stylist was blowing me off).

We have been seeing Zack for about 15 years now and he has been absolutely fantastic. His skills with hair dye are unsurpassed and he can create a perfectly natural looking complete color change for anyone.

I have been going to New Wave Salon for over two years for haircuts and style and always deal with Asha. Unfortunately, I went today for my scheduled appointment with Asha but was stunned by Asha’s unprofessional rude reaction and attitude as I was late 15 minutes because of the heavy rain.Asha didn’t even greet me; she literally just starts yelling blaming me for being 15 minutes late, refusing to do my hair because I was late 15 minutes, and almost kicked me out of the salon because I was late 15 minutes. I understand being on time is very important but unfortunately things happen it was a heavy rainy day and it was the first time since I start going to New Wave Salon that I was late for an appointment; actually many times before I have to go and wait for 15-20 minutes because Asha was still working on other clients hair and I didn’t mind waiting for 15-20 minutes as I understand people can have different circumstances. Even when I used to wait for Asha 15-20 minutes, I never reduced her tips, I was always generous in my tips to Asha even when I had to wait for 15-20 minutes. Even if I am late as a client I should be treated politely and with respect not being treated rudely. I ended up leaving the salon without getting my hair done. Asha didn’t care that her client left angry, unhappy, and that she lost my business forever, actually no one of New Wave Salon staff cared that a client was treated rudely, left unhappy, and will never go back to New Wave Salon.I will never go again to New Wave Salon and certainly, I don’t recommend Asha or New Wave Salon to anyone because they don’t have basic customer services manners and don’t respect clients. If you are interested in terrible customer services, rude treatment, and someone to yell at client then Asha should be your stylist and New Wave Salon should be your go to salon.

Mahin is the best! If you have problem skin, she will work with you on a long term plan to improve it.There is no overnight fix and anyone who promises miracles is lying to you. Mahin takes a gentle approach to get you looking your best. There is no hard sell on products.You absolutely feel pampered when you go to see her. She is knowledgeable and delightful to be around. My sister and I are 10+ year clients and followed her from a previous spa.

Janira Lehman, did my highlights, color and haircut and I am over the moon happy. She is patient, professional and talented. I feel very fortunate to have such a talented lady do my hair. I have thick very dark hair and knowone can highlight my hair without damaging it leaving it with patches. Well, Janira managed to do what no hairdresser was able to do. Give me beautiful highlights. Like many curly haired ladies I have always found a huge struggle dealing with my hair, and I would typically just throw it up in a bun... its a different story now as I almost always will have it down! Ive been a customer at New Wave for years. The stylists are nice & quite talented & Ive used most of them. I do love Nadals blowouts! Nisan, Zach, & & John do great color! The place is very friendly, clean & they strive to make you happier then when you walked in! You should always walk out smiling.I do anyway. I have alot of hair & stylists either love it or hate it because its a longer blowout. Ive been very very pleased with their services & recommend New Wave. Nasreen does incredible fills,manicures & pedicures.

But..... charged the wrong amount on first visit, got a phone call 20 minutes after I left telling this & asking for credit card number... showed up for appointment today (4 weeks later) only to find I didnt have an appointment- working front desk customer service desperately needed! Lesson learned - check receipts more carefully & call to confirm appt a few days before- isnt that a pain!

Mimi is fantastic! Ive been to her three times this year so far, and each time its a wonderful experience. I spent years battling my curly hair and found Mimi after chancing a Yelp search for curly hair reviews. She spends a lot of time with each client, and then the shampooing/conditioning/massage by Ana or Florita afterward is amazing! Expect to spend about 2 hours there, but the results are so worth it, even for driving from Herndon. Ive become a devotee of Devacurl method and products, too, which make daily styling sooo much easier, along with a fun, easy haircut!

Janita has been my stylist for over 20 years now and theres a reason that Ive stuck with her for so long. Not only do I love my hair, but I have the confidence that I am in the hands of a professional who keeps up with her education and training where she literally has the cabability to create the very latest hair trends with the very latest fashion trends. She keeps up with her training so that when a customer walks in with a picture of a hair style, she has the knowledge and skills to recreate that look. Now we dont always have the right hair texture or face shape to go with a style, and in that case, Janita will consult with you, helping you understand your hair and finding a style that best suits you and you absolutely love! Even though Ive been going to her all these years, she still takes the time, before beginning to work on my hair, to listen to me, knowing that I may want something different this time. If you want to stylist that will listen to you, has the highest level of skill, and patience to boot, then I highly recommend Janita!! You will not be disappointed.

Im new to the area and was looking for a stylist. Based on the reviews online, i decided to give this salon a shot. The salon overall is okay, there was some waiting time to get my hair shampooed. The lady who was supposed to shampoo my hair asked this spanish guy to do it. The experience wasnt too pleasantSo basically I decided to write the review because of my hair stylist, Sung. I cant say enough good things about him! You can tell how passionate he is about his work. He is so sweet, listens to your concerns, asks you about your hair history, and recommends what he thinks would look best. He was nice enough to even show me a few ways to style my hair. Im in love with my hair and my balayage. I dont think i will be going to anyone else anymore! At the end of the session, he asked me for my contact information so he could make notes of what was done in the session. If youre unsure about what to do with your hair, go to Sung, hes amazing!!!

Loveeee this place! The atmosphere is wonderful, but most of all, I have the BEST stylist! Janita is wonderful, shes more than a stylist, shes become a very close friend of my family. She did my moms hair before she recently passed, and still currently does my curly- sometimes red, sometimes blonde hair, and my grandmothers red hair. Totally recommend this place, especially if youre going to see Janita!
