Too slow! Just spent 2 hours and 20 minutes while a student hair cutter futzed around trying to cut my hair. She was supposed to be supervised by an experienced working stylist, but that person disappeared and another was occupied. It was only $12 and I knew the risk of getting a bad hair cut — which it is — but I hadn’t eaten lunch because I figured it would take an hour at maximum. So my blood sugar was dropping by the minute and I finally said, “I haven’t eaten. I’ve been here way too long. I’m leaving!” I have a Dutch Boy haircut (told them specifically I didn’t want that, but the second supervisor didn’t know what it meant!) with the cowlick in my bangs on prominent display after discussing that at length with the cutter and first supervisor! I recognize the students are learning, but somebody should have noticed how long I was there! My husband got a cut in 20 minutes!

Its a school. My mom was a professional beautician and she always went to a school so after I retired from the military and had time, I started going to schools. The key is you have to expect to be there a while. Also, hair grows back. Thats why we have to pay to have things done to it so often. As schools go, this one is clean. The students seem to be developing their skills.I have never had to deal with the owner but a couple of the younger instructors are fantastic teachers and stylists. They keep an eye on the students (even in the hair wash area) and are readily available for questions. They also have very pleasant personalities. 😊

Alex is AMAZING!!! I came to him as a brunette and after a second visit with color—- I am proud to say that I’m fully prepared to see “if blondes have more fun!” Lol! He is patient, a good listener, wise beyond his years and is graduating SOON!!! I consider myself lucky to have experienced a first ( going blonde) with him. I already know he will be sorely missed when he transitions to having his own chair!

I went here today as a walk in and was greeted right away. I chose the wrong time to come as it was during lunch break so I went and did a dog walk and came back about an hour later.I was warmly greeted again and waited maybe 10 minutes to be seen. I consulted the stylist in training (Maria) about getting my hair trimmed and then planning on getting my hair lightened up to a platinum. She was very patient with me and took her time explaining the process it would take to achieve the color I wanted. I was really happy with her attention to detail and her patience with me during the consult about coming back to get my hair lightened once I grow it out a wee more. I will definitely be coming back. I used to go regularly to get my hair trimmed here (not sure why I ever stopped as all my experiences with this school have always been pleasant). If you have time-go with a less advanced student. If crushed for time an advanced student is a good deal. And you just cant beat the price! I paid 12.00 for a trim (I expected it to be more $$ because I have really long hair). She cut quite a bit off (due to the damages I created bleaching my own hair over a year ago). I feel like a new woman! I look forward to going back to achieve the Platinum look I desire so I can then play with lots of pastel tones down the road😊

If you need your hair trimmed, washed, blow dried, (even dyed) this is a good place. Prices are great! But if you are going from one hair style to completely another, then its best if you go to a professional stylist. This is NOT the right place. (These trainees, future professional, are clueless most of the time. They do have professional stylists to guide them, BUT, they give directions for like 10 seconds and leave. Imo, this is not professional guidance, this is like saying go ahead, experiment).

I have gone to this location several times over the last 3-4 years for my hair care. From a basic trim or cut to hair coloring, I have never left this place unhappy. The instructors are attentive and the students are kept informed of the best ways to do things. I usually spend a bit more time in the chair than at your average salon, but because these are students taking their time, I dont mind! The prices cant be beat, too! Will definitely continue using their services.

Took my boyfriend here to get a cheap hair cut. Literally have been here for over an hour and his hair is still being cut. A guys haircut should not take this long. If you want to be here the entire day this is the place for you but if you want to be done in a reasonable time don’t come here

I have been getting my hair colored here for years and occasionally cut as well. The learning leaders are true professionals and they always make sure the students do a good job. They come around regularly and check and answer any questions I have. I highly recommend Hair Expressions as an affordable salon with dedicated instructors who care about their students and you!

Excellent experiences! Ive gotten my hair cut here about four times and dyed twice and was always delighted with the result. Last time I was here, one of the senior stylists gave advice on the haircut I should get (all I said was I wanted it short) and Im pretty sure Im keeping my hair this way for a long time because I love that cut so much. This time I was particularly impressed because apparently this was the first customer haircut my stylist had done and it turned out great! It was clear that she was super prepared. There was always a senior stylist nearby who offered occasional advice and touch-ups. Everything turned out well.

I have gone here twice now and both times have been very satisfied with the result. I got my hair cut short both times. Both times the students were excited to be able to cut and not just style. It was very amusing at how they almost bragged to their peers how they were able to cut my hair. The supervisors were always around to check how things were going. Ive never gotten more compliments on my hair than when I started going here. As noted, its a school. There isnt a beverage station with infused water or soothing music and soft colors. The students are learning and its clearly a learning atmosphere. I love the price and the result every time I go.

When I called, the voicemail said that it opens at 9:30. I also even checked the website to confirm their opening time, so I came at 9:30 and it was closed. Then I saw the hours on the door and it says that they open until 10:30. They are not even professional enough to change their hours on their website or voice message.

Just had my hair colored, highlighted and cut by Liz. I needed to find a new hair stylist as mine is moving out of state. I also cant pay an arm and leg, so Im looking for a good alternative. I was tentative about going to a school, but I have to say I loved it. The instructor checked LIzs work, who did a great job. I just wish she werent graduating in a month! But Ill keep coming back. No frills, but really who cares! The whole process took 2.5 hours, but I was prepared for it take longer. Im very pleased!

I had a great experience here. I went in for a simple cut (trim and add layers to long hair) and am quite pleased with the results. It took about an hour, and my hair professional was responsive to my needs and spent a lot of time talking with me about the look I wanted, since I was nervous about making a change. I got hair in my eyes a few times during the cut and the shampoo water was too hot at first, but overall it was a very positive experience. Also, it cost $12 plus tip, so I was not expecting the perfect spa-like environment. If you want that, go somewhere else.

I love my haircut! I am new to the area so I have been trying out a few different places in town but havent been that happy with my hair. So I decided to try the Paul Mitchell school. I was a hairdresser many moons ago and Paul Mitchell has always had a great reputation in the business. Im sooo glad I did! Anisha gave me a beautiful cut. She seemed so confident and she was very sweet and polite. Then she told me that I was her very first client! I couldnt believe it! Shes so talented! I highly recommend her. And the bonus, it only cost $12 (plus tip of course)! Thanks Anisha!

As a Former Student from this school.i highly dont recommend this school for any new student whos thinking about a career in cosmetology to enroll here. However lets begin how the instructors in this school how EXTREMELY unprofessional are towards the majority to the students. This instructors plays favoritism on which student they like and decides to help that student more on hair cutting and haircoloring techniques and be more friendly with them. most Instructors in this school are sitting just for a paycheck and doesnt all seem like they havent worked in real hair salon before for at least a year I know if an instructor has a passion for teaching they wouldnt feel intimidated by a student asking for help. THATS A POINT OF BEING An INSTRUCTOR IS FOR. Also sadly, the students here every once a while We had to argue, sign a petition with each students signature and BEG the owner of the school (Ed) - the owner for his lazy instructors he hires to show us a professional real life salon color. Depends if hes in a bad mood that day he will refused that petition what the majority of students at hair expressions PM school begged for. Think about it you sign up for a brand name that is well known in professional salons. You expected a good reputation from the school since its partnered with PAUL MITCHELL why be a branded named school if you cant give the students who are enroll here a real salon life EDUCATION. Also this school has issue on always being low on supplies such as the color, Color XG, POP XG, PM Shines, The Demi,) - Paul Mitchells color lines The owners of this school once a while had an arguments with students putting colors on the doll head (mannequins) since its considered WASTING MONEY AND PRODUCT first of all your journey while being in beauty school is where your supposed to make your mistakes, learn about color, hair cutting and practice your craft for the real world. not many salon owners out there doesn’t like the ideal of a new stylist not knowing anything. They expected you to know the foundations and the way it works in hair . Also one last thing STATE BOARD while being in beauty school. BARLEY any state board prep! i dont blame the students going wondering around for help as someone like myself whos been licensed cosmetologist for a couple months now. I had to train at least 4 Graduates from this school to come to my house for the last 1-2 months on how to do the state board and to pass their praticial and theory for the board. Which its sad to me since this is where the school has failed its job 10x time. Refuse to not prepare for the upcoming graduates ahead of time to give training on how to pass their board to become a licensed cosmetologist. This school seem to had an issue not hire enough instructors to teach state board and their preparation for the board was only once a month for the day school students. In my opinion i suggest to anyone who plans on going to beauty school Tour as many beauty schools in maryland as much as you can and find the right school that cares about the success of a beauty school students career and job placement! theres better options out there than wasting thousands of dollars in this school than coming here. It is a waste of time and money. NOT WORTH the drama and pain coming here.

I do not recommend enrolling to this school. As a former student I had a terrible experience with the management/owner, and how everything was handled. They are very unprofessional, and dishonest. It is very sad Because as students we research and pick a school to enroll to thinking it will be the best for us, and we will learn so much. When i first came in for a tour they said we would get to do so many things and learn all these cool “techniques” ( example balayage, ombré, fun colors) so i was motivated and anxious to thrive . Then when i started and i asked when will we start learning these “TECHNIQUES” management said they “are ONLY required to teach the basics. ” Which is totally understandable. HOWEVER that was not how it was implied to us . We would literally come to school barely get any clients (our friends and family would be the most that we would do when they came in), and wait for our specialty classes that we never had because they were low on staff. My Class and i have gone through about 6-7 Learning leaders due to their drama with the owners. It is ridiculous because we were made aware of what was going on from the gossiping of Learning leaders and management. We had no make up hours because ED (owner) said that by law it was not allowed anymore ( which is not true) so if they tell you that you graduate in 12 months it is more like 14 months and if you are “scheduled “ to graduate in 15 months it will be more like 18 months. You hear 3 different graduation dates before you know the final One. When you ask for a copy of your hours they question you and give you a hard time to get it, Hours are always missing and you have to be on top of them to make sure they put it in. A lot of us have full time jobs and kids and to come to a school to put more stress on us is very unfair! It felt like we were in a school full of drama and no one cared for our future. Paul Mitchell should not be affiliated with them because they are giving them a bad name .

I went to Hair Expressions Paul Mitchell School and it was a very very bad experience for me.I could not believe they charged me $65 for what I went through. I will never go back there and will tell other people not to go there. I could have gone to a regular salon and got it done for less money and faster but I could not find a salon that offered the Keratriplex treatment. First of all I am African American with biracial hair that is very curly. It would be nice if they asked you about your hair when you come in for your appt. and then set you up with a student that has experience with your type of hair. I realize that these are students learning but why is the price so high and why is there no teacher watching each student. The student clearly did not know how to blow dry my hair or flat iron it. I wish they had more teachers as the teacher was no where in site when she attempted to blow dry my hair into a hot mess. There was only one professional for 5 students and she was not with my student. The student did not acknowledge she did not know what she was doing and did not consult the teacher for help. I had to ask the student to get the teacher and I had to offer verbal help on how to apply tension when blow drying my hair. The student thad no idea that she totally did a bad job and offered no apology. someone should have told her how my hair was supposed to come out unless the staff does not know or care. No one told the student that my hair was not supposed to turn out the way it did after she blow dried it.I have been to MANY salons and I never had my hair looking a hot mess after blow drying like this. I have had all ethnicities work on my hair. Then when she went to flat iron it she would hold the flat iron on my hair in one spot for several seconds instead of continuously moving it through my hair which really scared me as she could burn my hair off in spots. Please do not go to this school if you have African American hair. The teacher should have lowered the price and apologized to me. They had to get someone else to finish flat ironing my hair. I was seriously scared the student was going to burn my hair off. The student did not even realize or maybe she did not care that she could be burning my hair off. They did finally get someone that could flat iron my hair correctly as I had somewhere to be after my appt. I hope my hair will be okay.

Dont go to this school to be a student. The administration is awful. Ed, the owner of the school, is just money hungry and does not care about the success of his students. They have ridiculous attendance policies that make it nearly impossible to graduate on time. They are also very cheap with the supplies that they give to the students. If you want to go to a cosmetology school please do your research and dont go to this partner school. Go to a real Paul Mitchell school.
