This shop offers affordable service, and will repair pieces that other shops wont touch, but this comes with a major caveat. The owner is recovering from a stroke, and is clearly struggling to keep up with orders and keep his shop organized. I hope people are patient with him as he fights through the aftermath of a serious medical emergency. Dont expect lightning-fast turnaround, and you might want to check in on the job. If you can wait, youll be rewarded with quality work from an incredibly skilled craftsman.

Had a nice watch with, as he described, a simple spring repair job. After waiting a month we contacted him and he could not find the watch. He is VERY disorganized. Everything is placed in reused envelopes and there is no order at all....eventually he finds the watch and says he needs a month to fix it. Fast forward...the time goes by and it is time to pick it up. He winds the watch and it doesn’t work. Says he needs another week to fix. Will put in a different spring. One that is stronger. I call in a week. He has no idea who I am or where the watch is again. I describe the past events...he remembered but can’t find the watch. Again, he finds it. I pick it up, pay him and the watch stops working 2 days later. He says he will not try to fix it anymore. Stay away!!!

I had a watch repaired here not long ago. Getting it back was an ordeal. On the day it was supposed to be ready it couldn’t be found. I was asked to come back in a few days. When I returned it took him 15 minutes to find it. It still wasn’t done. I was again asked to return in a few days. This time it was ready and I felt glad it wasn’t lost forever. Fast forward a few months and it’s not working. Next the pandemic is raging and when restrictions are lifted I finally made my way back. The owner was at the door and maskless . I handed him the watch and began to follow him inside but I immediately realized that he’s not going to put on a mask so I stayed back and waited. He immediately took a call. Finally realizing I wasn’t a priority I briefly entered the shop to retrieve my item. Bad move. The owner didn’t appreciate that I’d changed my mind and began screaming obscenities at me. I left without hesitation and I highly recommend that you NOT patronize this business.

This little obscure shop is one of the gems that help make Portland a cool town. I hesitate to write a bad review, because it can be really harmful to a business trying to make it.When I dropped off the clock in February I saw my first red flag. The shopkeeper was harried, as there was already a customer in line before me, clock in hand. He muttered something like my goodness... so many customers... hows a guys supposed to get anything accomplished...?The other customer and I shared a furtive glance as we both laughed in disbelief. Darn pesky customers!I never had my antique clock repaired by this shop because it sat on a shelf for nine months (from February to Christmas). From time to time I would call or stop by to see if it was done. The answer was always Not yet, please come back next week - on Monday or Tuesday. As Christmas bore down on me, I inquired once in November and three times in December. (Id now decided to giftwrap this family heirloom for my wife.) Each time I inquired, the repaired clock was promised for the following week. Then on Christmas Eve at 10 am I inquired a final time. The shopkeeper (who never wears Covid face covering, btw) replied that its not done. I asked if he could please finish it that day. He said no way-same day, because heck, its Christmas Eve.Imagine my incredulousness. I took the clock and found another repair shop. In leaving I was tempted to light up the avuncular shopkeeper, who apologized and proclaimed that he is just so busy. Instead, I channelled my inner Ebineezer, congratulated him on being busy, thanked him for trying, and wished him a merry Christmas. He might do great work, and hes certainly ... umm ... quaint, but be prepared to bird-dog him.

I have walked in on multiple occasions and was out the door ASAP. The owner/watch master was very polite and had good conversations while he worked on my watch. This is an old school work shop. He has worked on my Invicta and Tag Heuer watches. Great pricing and trustworthy

Had a good experience getting my watch fixed, costed only 2 dollars. Even took time to find the exact size for my watch, which is very uncommon. I wouldnt put a political sign there above the counter, but I understand where he is coming from.

Edward is a bit eccentric, but there is no one in the area that is more professional or more knowledgeable when it comes to time pieces. He charged me less than other shops, but did way more than I expected him to by fixing a broken clasp and making a link for one of my Movados that I couldnt find anywhere. Absolutely recommend him to anyone needing anything horology related, whether its a simple battery swap or a full on service.

Go here if you want your watch or clock fixed rather than the other shops in town. Ed knows his stuff and is determined to get whatever it is you need fixed or tuned up. I went to a different watch repair shop in town with terrible service and results after waiting 8 weeks, and they said they couldnt get the piece I needed/wanted anymore, but Ed was able to find it within two hours after dropping it off!Ed is definitely an eccentric individual with a firm set of political beliefs which can be a little discomforting for some, but the real reason Im giving 4 stars is because he wasnt open a couple times when he was supposed to be, making picking up my well-serviced watch a little difficult. Other than that, certainly an experience with positive results getting your stuff serviced by Ed. Thanks.

Stopped by with a question and changed my mind about buying there when I saw politically charged Trump signs I choose not to support. Its my right to spend money at establishments my beliefs align with. When I asked for my watch back, the man at the counter started yelling at me and refused at first to return my property. I calmly explained that I had changed my mind and was going to look elsewhere, and the man behind the counter yelled me out of his store. No matter what your beliefs are, refusing to return a patrons property and raising your voice at a customer? Real classy. Good luck with your business running it like that.

Excellent and quick service for a watch battery replacement that just HAD to happen that day. I came with my elderly mother in law and overtired toddler and appreciated the relaxed, flexible, personal care that was provided. You can imagine just how badly things could have gone. What a pleasant surprise.
