I had Galina for a dry scalp treatment and a cut & style, let me just say she was absolutely wonderful. She asked all kinds of questions and didn’t judge me for being new to taking care of my thick, curly hair and not having all the answers. She gave me all kinds of information on how to maintain my scalp as well as how to properly diffuse my hair to get the ringlet curls my hair naturally does. I already have my follow-up booked and I am excited to have her lighten my hair next time! Thank you Galina!

While I had a great and relatively affordable haircut from Sarah S. (Who was super sweet and I highly recommend), I am upset with the management of this salon. When I booked my appointment I was forced to pay for half of my haircut as a deposit and per the website, the other half would be charged the day of service. That I am fine with. However, after my haircut, Sarah told me she was charging me the full amount and I should receive a refund from the salon for my deposit amount automatically. About a week later I checked for my refund and it was nowhere to be seen. I finally got a text from the salon after contacting them that they dont keep credit card numbers so you have to call them and give them your credit card number over the phone for the refund. Also, I was informed only stylists are on staff Monday through Wednesdays so if you try to call for a refund these days, good luck. It makes me wonder how many people do not checked for the refund and the business is just keeping their money.

The stylists are fantastic, but it seems like management has abandoned their business. Not a friendly feeling walking in the door. Difficult to schedule. Noone to talk to over phone. Text only.

I arrived 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment and was not greeted from an employee or receptionist but proceeded to sit down and waited 30 minutes before being acknowledged. Will not be going here ever again. Very unprofessional and rude and if I were you I would take my business elsewhere.

I love Headgames and Galina! Prior to going to Headgames, it was so hard to control and maintain my very thick, curly hair. I always wanted long hair but it was impossible to maintain. I would get layers to decrease the weight and would come out looking like a Christmas tree. It was so hard to keep it from knitting and tangling. I gave up and resigned myself to shoulder length until I found Galina at Headgames, who specializes in cutting curly hair.My hair is now super long! On top of that, the cut makes it so much lighter and bouncy. The Controlled Chaos leave-in conditioner helps me maintain my curls between cuts. I have been going to Galina for years now and I have never been disappointed. So if you have curly hair, I highly recommend Galina!

In the beginning of 2020, Head Games Salon was running a promotion where you can receive five services for $95. Due to Covid they temporarily closed. Once they reopened, I called in July to schedule a hair appointment as one of my five services. I was told they werent honoring the promotion due to Covid and that I should call back next month to schedule. *First red flag.I called again in August to schedule a hair appointment as one of my five services. I was told that the spa side is still closed and the promotion is now three services instead of five. *Second red flag.It is not ok to change a promotion once already purchased, but I tried to be empathetic and understand the struggle due to Covid. Instead of asking for a refund I settled for three services. They also informed me that the three services would expire at the end of the month. (This was a two week notice.) *Third red flag.Again, I tried to be understanding and made a hair appointment. Before my appointment they informed me that they couldnt blow dry because of Covid. When I arrived to the salon a customer was LITERALLY GETTING THEIR HAIR BLOW DRIED! *Fourth red flag. My hair dresser informed me there would be an additional $50 charge and I wish I addressed that in the moment because there was supposed to be no additional charge with the service. *Fifth red flag.I left with wet hair and when I dried it at home my highlights were barely noticeable. I have never complained about a service but this was unbelievable. They offered to redo my highlights which I appreciate and they were going to check on why I was charged the $50.The salon decided it was best to inform me through text that the $50 could stay on my account and go towards my next service. I asked for a managers contact and they gave me an email address [email protected] . I have yet to hear any response from the email, text, or phone. I was mistakenly charged $50 and they need to put it back on the card used. Sarah or Alanna.... you need to respond.

Ive been to this salon twice; once for a trim by Hannah and once for a huge ~10 inch chop off by Maureen. Each time Ive gone have been great, comfortable experiences. Both Hannah and Maureen made me feel at ease immediately and made great conversation. Hannah knew exactly what I wanted and expertly trimmed everything without changing my look--you almost couldnt tell I got a cut except for how much healthier my hair looked; which was exactly what I wanted. With my more drastic cut, Maureen understood my half baked vision and ran with it--asking for input throughout the whole cut and exceeding my expectations with each practiced snip of the scissors until I was fully satisfied with the result. Clearly, Head Games has vetted a talented, professional, and experienced team. I highly recommend this salon!

Ive been getting my own hair cut by Lindsay since last May and have LOVED working with her, but the icing on the cake came this past week when she gave my wild (and wild-haired) 5-year-old his first-ever not-done-by-mom haircut. She was so sweet, fun, and patient with him, and his big kid haircut looks so cute!! He had a such a great time that hes already asking to go back.

Where do I even start? I have never left a hair salon so happy before. My new and official hairstylist Sarah was absolutely amazing. Sarah is an angel sent from the hair gods themselves. She is great if you’re not sure what to do with your hair as she’ll ask you personal questions to get down to the style she thinks is best for your hair, but is also great at listening to the customers expectations as well. I am a very honest person and if I’m being honest this salon has got to be not only the best salon in the Portland area but in the state of Maine in general. I’ve been to quite a few salons trying to find the right hair stylist and let’s just say I’m extremely happy that I don’t have to look anymore. All the employees here take their work environment seriously, but at the same time make it a welcoming place for all! If you’re wondering who to choose for a stylist don’t worry, literally everyone who works here is amazing! This was my first time ever getting my hair cut and styled here and I will be a forever returning customer! I’m just absolutely beyond thrilled with my new haircut. Just believe me when I say this place is magical, and you will be leaving the salon with your best hair.

I drove an hour to come get my hair cut by Lisa (I live in a very small town where its hard to find professionals for anything) and she was amazing. I had a pixie that I let grow for too long and it was basically a Billy Ray Cyrus style mullet. I showed her some pictures of what I wanted and didnt want and she trimmed it up perfectly. She was kind and very efficient and recommended some products based on questions I asked, but there was zero hard selling. The salon is definitely busy but she was totally focused on me and did a great job. I will definitely be back!

Galina was amazing!! She was professional and knew how to cut CURLY HAIR!! Im very self conscious and dont let just anybody touch my hair. But she was awesome. The place is clean and professional. I would give them 20 stars. PS. I drove 2 hours to see them and it was worth every minute!

Prudence is one of the best estheticians I have ever experienced. I went yesterday to Head Games for a facial and was thoroughly impressed. Prudence is thorough, knowledgeable and super pleasant. Her quaint and adorable room made me feel so at home and relaxed, which was a huge bonus. I’m already looking forward to my next session with her. Kudos on a job well done!

I had my first appointment at Head Games today. I am a hairstylist myself, the only stylist at my location, and I have been searching for someone to be my stylist. I am so glad I ended up in Hannah’s chair because she made my day and my search so much easier and better! From the moment I walked in the salon, I felt at home, I was greeted promptly and offered a beverage, I was early and Hannah took me before my appointment time to save me from waiting. The shampoo was wonderful, the haircut was perfect, and the style she gave me was gorgeous! She gave me some amazing product recommendations and I am so thankful I met this wonderful woman! I HIGHLY recommend seeing Hannah for your hair, it was the best experience I have personally had in a salon! Thank you, Hannah!!

I highly recommend Minta if you’re looking for a massage, and Lindsey if you’re looking for a haircut.Minta is a massage goddess. I’ve never been one to get regular massages but I’ve already seen her twice in the last month. She makes me feel very comfortable and relaxed during the massage, and I leave feeling absolutely amazing. She’s also started making her own lotion- it’s lovely and just one extra reason to love her services.Lindsey was great. She talked to me for a bit about my hair and helped me come up with a game plan when I was undecided. My cut looks great and styles so easily. Super happy and will be returning to see her.

Lisa is a great fit for me - she listens closely to what I’m thinking about for my hair, and offers really useful information and tips during the cut. She is friendly, welcoming, and talented. For the first time, I was able to almost replicate the salon blowout! High fives all around.

I went in today to have my hair highlighted with Galena. I decided it was time for a whole new look. She gave me a fabulous new haircut. I love it! She stayed late to make sure I was happy with my new look. I have found everyone at Headgames to be friendly and professional. Galena is amazing with thick, curly hair!

I just moved to Portland 4 and a half months ago and finding a new hairstylist can be tough but thank god I came to this salon and even more grateful I found Lindsey.. she literally executes my vision every time and exceeds my expectations. Have been going there for about 2 months now to use the infra-red and steam sauna in the basement. The monthly subscription of 60 dollars for unlimited use of these facilities is a great deal for me - the heat treatment helps with several medical issues I have. The two staff members, Meredith and Edie, who alternated at manning the reception were courteous and helpful. Definitely a recommend !

Sarah S. is an amazing hairstylist! She’s the first person I’ve trusted to get my hair colored and I was in love with the outcome. She is very talented and it shows through her work! Sarah’s professionalism, knowledge and wonderful personality makes her the best in the area.

This place is adorable! Just as you walk in, there’s a juice and smoothie bar aside their amazing boutique shop. Once I entered the salon, I was promptly greeted and offered a beverage before my service. Prudence gave me a lovely lash lift and tint, and was accommodating and friendly throughout the whole process (it was my first lift and she talked me through it wonderfully). She seemed knowledgeable and was accommodating during the whole session.

I’ve gotten my hair, nails, facials, and massages done here multiple times. Absolutely love them . Great customer service. Minta is amazing at her massages and give great advice on stretches and what she’s doing while massaging . Prudence has been doing my facials and has helped me get my skin back on track. Lovely team.

My first experience with Head Games was nothing short of amazing! Stylist, Natasha, cut and colored my hair. As someone who has never colored my hair, I was nervous, but with Natasha’s confidence, I felt much more at ease. I was so amazed with how my hair came out, Natasha did an exceptional job! I was a first time customer at head games. My stylist was very nice however I showed her a pic of the color and cut that I wanted and was not what I got. I ended up leaving with black hair and hair that was inches shorter than I wanted which is now only a little lower than my chin. I told her I was a college athlete and that I needed to be able to put my hair up but that isn’t a possibility anymore! I feel terrible for writing this but I genuinely am just upset.

As a first time client I left extremely happy. Head Games is a very trendy salon where you can feel right at home in the middle of the city. I have gone there for several years, and all of the stylist and employees are super nice and talented. I have seen Lisa the most, and she is amazing with hair color. The staff have been so friendly and very welcoming. I then decided to go back for a facial, eyelash extensions, mani, and pedi. Everyone has been amazing and I cannot wait for my next appointment.

Very trendy salon and interesting hair products. Maureen gave me the haircut that Ive been dreaming about for years! The location of the salon is very near the art museum and nice places to have a meal. You are served coffee, tea or water and given the nice salon experience. Be aware that this salon is very expensive.

I always look forward to my haircuts at Head Games! I have been getting my haircuts there for over two years and have never received a bad one. The staff always devote all their attention to your hair and your needs (water, coffee, beer or wine!). Very kind and caring and creative staff and I would highly recommend anyone to visit Head Games for their hair care needs!

Rachel is amazing. I have curly hair and she know exactly what to do to make it look great. Every haircut has been a winner.I love that Head Games has nape trims as part of short hair maintenance. I dont need a full haircut every month, so I can pop in for a 10 minute touchup.

Rachel has been cutting my hair for a long time, longer than any other stylist, and she always makes me look completely fantastic in addition to being a delight herself. The staff are also friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend Rachel enough.

Head games is a great little hidden gem with some very talented people. I was lucky and got Hannah who did an amazing color change for me. I had been brown/red for a few years and decided I needed a change. I went for the blonde balayage and I couldnt have been happier! Hannah did such a great job and made me feel at home the whole time. I even sent my husband to her for a basic cut and he came home looking like a new man. I would totally recommend her wether youre looking for a complete change, or just getting a trim. You wont be disappointed 😁

As a hard working individual she understands the value of her clients time in any service that is provided at Head Games.I have received phenomenal services for the following:Blowout- Sarah B began the blow out addiction with the most voluminous and long lasting style I have ever received. This blowout survived an entire day of traveling on planes and the Florida humidity. WHO ELSE CAN SAY THAT?!Other notable stylists are Brianna & Lisa who squeezed me into their busy schedules when I popped in randomly during the day. Both girls were fun to chat with, gentle, and patient as well. I have long, thick hair that holds a lot of water. This can often times make stylists late for their next appointment but I never felt rushed by either and always well taken care of!Cut & Color- The goddess herself Sarah B is unparalleled in skill, humor, and hard work. This girl gets it right. She has a remarkable ability to see exactly what youre saying but somehow make it 10 times better than what you could have ever pictured. I cannot say enough positive things about her attention to detail.Waxing- I recently was on vacation and had to trust another person to wax my armpits. Big mistake. Prudence gets it right every time. She understands hair can grow in different ways and does not take a one size fits all approach to her work. Her tailored approach to each individual is a god send. She gets everything (Thats the goal!) My hair grows back softer, less prominent, and I go about every 2.5-3 weeks when I see her. I refuse to go anywhere else.

I had originally come to Headgames because my esthetician switched locations. I was in love with the atmosphere and the cleanliness of the salon, but I was not in love with my experience. I booked for eyelash extensions and was SO excited to finally get them done. During the session the cosmetologist asked my for my opinion on flu shots and vaccinations for her children/herself which I found very unprofessional. After leaving, I felt fabulous but my left eye was very sore. The cosmetologist attributed that to having my eyes shut for so long. However, the next day I woke up and my eyeball was BRIGHT red, I called the salon to ask what I should do. They did not return my call after saying they would get right back to me, and I had to call back a few hours later to get in touch with the cosmetologist who worked on me. The conclusion: she put the tape too close to my water line and ended up scratching my sclera(it took a week to clear). I wasnt impressed with her lack of concern for my eye and was still asked to pay full price... Needless to say, I dont recommend getting eyelash extensions done here, but the esthetician(brizee) is wonderful!

Definitely worth the price, I have never gotten a hair cut from here that I did not like. I got a lot of compliments on my most recent cut, all thanks to Courtney!

Feeling disappointed....after spending $225 on what was suppose to be a super blond balayage, my hair ended up looking pretty much the same as it did when I walked in. After a few washes, it now has a red tone which I really hate. I went to get very blond for my summer in florida and now Im unable to get it corrected because I am away....Vanessa was super nice, but I paid so much and ended up pretty unhappy.
