My experience was terrific from start to finish. Students are receptive to client requests. I got a fabulous cut and color. The stylist and teacher were sweet as can be. They explained face shapes and what is most flattering. I am going back for an appointment in 1 month for a touch up and recommend Paul Mitchell Institute to everyone. Very satisfied customer.
CAITLIN CHILDERS!!!! she is AMAZING! just went in to get my hair styled for a wedding & she did the BEST job ever! went in looking for a specific hairstyle but came out looking even better than in the images. she is an amazing hairstylist AND really good with facials too for someone of such young age. the next years of styling, haircutting and skincare is gonna allow her to perfect what shes already amazing at.go in and ask for Caitlin
I love this place. All the teachers are excellent. I get GREAT hair cuts here. I also get great service and color here. Seriously so happy I found them.
I got my hair cut here on a Tuesday - they were particularly busy, but the receptionist was overly curt and I wasnt seated for my scheduled appointment until 15 minutes after I was supposed to start. Not a great first impression. However, the lady who cut my hair was very gentle, methodical and friendly, so while my overall time was 2 hours for a reasonably simple haircut, it was well executed and Im quite pleased with the result. Especially for the price. Would definitely return.
This is the only place I go to for haircuts. I have never had a bad experience here; every learning artist is friendly and engaging, and their in-house mentors are quick and informative. The salon itself is kept clean and tidy.
This place is good for a hair cut or a simple dye job. However, do expect to take at least 2 hours for a haircut and > 4 hours for any hair dying. Some of the challenge is that there are talented students & some not so talented students. The first couple times I came, I had a super sharp & talented individual, & she did great work. The first few times the instructor who checked the students work was also very good & had great attention to detail. So in 2013 & early 2014 I would have recommended this place. The last few times I have gone, I have had to have my bangs redone at a different salon because they were terribly uneven. In addition, the instructor (the good ones that were there a year or so ago are now gone) on the floor did not know how to successfully cut bangs or dye hair themselves, because they were the ones who gave the dye instructions & physically cut my hair. So... even if there are talented students, they themselves cannot make up for poor teaching & technique. I would not recommended this place now based upon the last 3-4 appointments I have had... considering that it is no longer a savings if you have to pay to get your hair fixed afterwards.I do want to say that I appreciate that everyone is generally very friendly here at least, I have only had one instructor who didnt seem to care at all about doing a good job. So at least it is pretty pleasant when you spend several hours there at a time.
Love my hair!!! Paul Mitchell the School of Portland is an amazing place to go to have an updated new look. I wasnt sure what I wanted when I came in and the Future Professional and Learning Leader helped me understand what color and cut would work best for my face frame and skin tone. I appreciated the extra time they took to achieve the perfect look for me. Its a high energy friendly environment that is full of people that love what they do and it shows!! I recommend Paul Mitchell the School of Portland to anyone that wants to get compliments on their hair.
I went in thinking that i may be making a mistake on letting a student cut my hair. When I walked through the door I was greeted with an awesome atmosphere and many smiles and hellos. They got me in a chair within 10 minutes with a stylist that actually acted like she wanted me to be there. I explained to her what i wanted and she even took notes. Her teacher came over to check on her and she had to explain exactly what I wanted and she told her the exact hair cut I was about to get. The girl spent quite a bit of time on my hair perfecting every angle and trimming it to exactly what i had asked for. I could see the excitement on her face as she pulled it together. No one has ever paid that much attention to detail when cutting my hair. I was thoroughly impressed. After she got done, she told me it was the best hair cut she has probably done while at school. My overall experience was amazing. The price was a plus. Only spent 16 dollars. I could not believe it. I recommend this product to anyone.
As a former student, I would like to give praise to the staff and learning leaders, what an amazing experience! So happy I choose PM and Portlands PM school for my education, I could not be more pleased! If this industry is a consideration for you, you are selling yourself short to even consider anything else! LOVED my experience at PM!!! PS - every place I interview with asked me to work with them and I think that has a lot to do with the education I received.Rob
I enjoy coming to see my stylist Sarah. She is real with me and is willing to work with me. Although I had a couple mistakes that had to be fixed because of my crazy curls and going from so long to so short, Sarah fixed them and made it look fabulous. Then when I went back for my dye job. Sarah amazing me again. It is definitely worth going, you just have to find the right person and go with your instincts. If they dont fit what you think you want, go with someone else, I communicated what I wanted and they matched me with Sarah and I have been satisfied. She is amazing!
I wanted to like them. They were wonderful the first time I went there. But now it seems I wont be again, as it seems theyre taking my cancellation out on me.I unfortunately couldnt make an appointment due to a strained muscle and a cold. So I said Id make a new appointment when I felt better. But now every time I call nobody answers, and when I request an appointment online (which Ive done 5 times), nobody gets back to me. So now I guess I have to find a new place.
Rosanna washed, cut and styled both my hair and my 8 year daughters. We are really happy with the results, left the salon looking way better than we came in for sure! Price was right and it only took a little bit longer than in a standard salon because a teacher checked in before and after the cut/style. My daughter ended up getting a pedicure while it was my turn for a haircut. Her toes are adorable and she is ready to go back soon and have Alicia do her fingers. We will definitely visit again.
I went for a men haircut .The plus: They did a good job. Its $15 if I remember well. The minus: it takes a while, first you wait even though you had an appointment. Then the cut itself takes 45min... for men cut thats long. So as long as youve time its fine
Got awesome hair cut done by Ellie :-)People here are so nice & friendly. They clearly understand the requirements of customer and do nice haircut!
Today was my first time at the Paul Mitchell School, and I wasnt sure what to expect. All I knew is that my roots needed to be touched up, but beyond that I had no idea what I wanted. The girl who did my hair was named Alexa, and she was amazing! She told me all of my options and made sure I was on board before I did anything. She made sure I was comfortable, and she did an amazing job. It turned out better than I expected. They are also very upfront about prices and really have your happiness in mind.
I have always had a great experience at Paul Mitchell! As long as you keep in mind that it will take time because these are students, you will not be disappointed! I have never had a bad cut or color here! Thanks Paul Mitchell!!!
Bummer the reviews are so bad. :(Thank you for the opinions.....Because girl I left FEELING LIKE BEYONCE!!Of course students work on your hair.but the instructors finish it!! I feel like. The most picky type come here to trash on this place, when its actually amazing
I recently went for a balayage. I was quoted $173 for a cut and color. Although my hair is long and thick, I thought the price was steep for a student clinic, but I was already there, so I decided to go with it. After 7 hours in the chair, I came out with what looked like hair color with roots that were growing in rather than balayage. My request for two inches off the bottom and subtle layers was 0.5-1 inches, at most, with no layers. I was told that I could return within a couple of weeks to fix the color, but Id have to pay for the additional product used for coloring. Afterwards, I told a hairstylist friend about the price, and she agreed it was way too much for a school to be charging (with the added parking meter charge + tip, it ended up totaling over $200). Everyone was nice, including the staff, but next time Ill invest $200 into a cut and color from a professional salon. From a scheduling standpoint, they were way more organized than The Aveda Institute.
Thinking about going to school here. I wish more people were writing reviews about their schooling experience! The place looks amazing. Completely modern and upbeat environment, the teachers I met seemed really nice and friendly. It appears to be a very professional environment.
I received a gift for a facial, Mani, Pedi, Hair cut & color. I had 2 different girls and they were both great. Each of them gave me a great experience for a SPA DAY and for ones that are learning both of them asked for help when needed by the instructor and everything for me turned out great! The only down side is it does take a bit longer than normal appointments but make the time. For the price you cant beat it. They were friendly and I would defiantly recommend them!Thank you Melody & Jessie for a great day! Best wishes in your future you will both do great!
As a student I am being lied to...financial aid tricked me into believing I would be educated on all types of hair not just how to highlight and cut straight hair. The school is ran by a team of confusing and untrained individuals everyone is on their own page. No structure and no rules that are cohesive to our contract. Teacher discuss race and religion bathroom walls are full of pornography and racial slurs. We have no Janitors so everything is completely filthy behind close doors...I’m constantly sick due to the ventilation with my asthma. I own the school money so I have to finish. I’m hoping to finish earlier then expected so I don’t have to cry and worry for my safety everyday
If I could give -5 stars. We had an appointment for 3 manicures..2 full sets and a gel..worst service ever..my 5 year old niece could have given me better service. It took 3 hours for our nails to look worse than when we started. Do not get nails done ever!!
Refused to dye my hair because it was dead then proceeded to blow dry my hair twice. Styled it TERRIBLY afterwards. Hairstylist had no not idea what she was doing and did not listen to her instructor. Would NOT recommend.
I have been having a color, cut and style for like 6 years...every time I love going...my treat. They are professionals, do their best, have teachers that help in any way to make it best service for ME! Thanks PM!
The last few times i have had an appointment with a specific person and its changed to someone different when i get here. Also i have made appointments, i get here and they say i dont have one. I had an appointment scheduled for today 11-30-19 since October, i showed up and they are not even open. No call or anything. Very unprofessional.
I had a great experience. Kiara( I hope thats right lol) did an awesome job on my hair. The instructors were very paitient and helpful with me and the stylist. She did a baylage and my hair doesnt process easily. It looks amazing! Would totally recommend!!
I had my hair cut by Vanessa V. who was amazing! She did what I asked her to do with little help from one of the male instructors, who too, was very polite and professional. My hair is very complicated to work with so I really appreciate their work!!
Went there yesterday and had my hair done by Josh Lane. Had it colored and highlighted and cut. He did an outstanding job. I normally would not go to a beauty school but my friend just had her hair done by Josh also and it looked FAB!! And who could complain about the price? The place was PACKED when I got there which was encouraging considering it was a school. I have been to schools before and it was full of little old ladies! Love this place and they offer everything! Go see Josh!!
Its not that I hated it, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the staff and unfriendly atmosphere. I used to think so highly of Paul Mitchell and was completely shocked. The lady that finally came to talk to me after seeing me sitting for 10 minutes, didnt shake my hand or introduce herself. After she told me a little about the program I let her know I dont have any interest in going to school there and explained my reason and she told me, maybe try coming back on a different day and that she was sorry. I couldnt believe it. :(
Took almost 30 minutes to get into a chair despite the reservation person saying there were plenty of openings at 4 but that was the latest I could arrive. The student took almost 2 hours to cut my hair and didnt even wash it. She straightened it and cut it dry then had to re-straighten it after she sectioned it. She proceeded to squat for my entire cut which Id never seen before despite having long hair. The student referenced that I might like the same kind of music as her mom, ummm, not even close to that old thanks! The instructor was illusive besides occasionally walking by and asking the student how it was going which I thought was clear wasnt well but the student said OK so the instructor kept moving. The instructor asked me if Id ever straightened my hair before and I replied, Yes, almost daily. Just came in today with lazy bun wave hair with a hair cut being anticipated in my near future. She replied with, Oh, you dont look like the type of person that would take the time to straighten their hair. Excuse me?! What am I at a hair cut roast here?! I cant believe how unprofessional these people were, Ill definitely be sticking with the Aveda Institute moving forward.
From the get go I was not given what I ask for and the director needs to be more firm with her instructors. My hair is ruined. Dont not go to Rye. She dyed my hair and it only showed up on top they didnt tell me they needed to lighten it. I payed good money.
I came in a had a great experience with a fabulous haircut and booked a facial for my next visit. I cant wait!
They need to work on phone ettiquette. Also one person will tell you one thing. And, then another will say something else. No communication!
Great service and energy from the staff. I was helped right away with little wait and felt very comfortable with the process and haircut I got from the student I was working with.
I had my hair colored there about 2 months ago and they did such an awesome job. I will be going back to get my hair done for sure.
Came here yesterday to get my blonde balayage lightened and got paired up with Madison Joki. She is a sweetheart! Not only that, but the results of my hair were outstanding. She lightened and toned it perfectly without damaging the hell out of it. She brought my warm-orangy toned blonde to a cool icy platinum in one sitting. We had great conversation and I felt very welcomed my entire visit. Everyone else working there was very friendly too and the atmosphere is always lively and fun. I recommend booking with Madison if you come here to get any services - shes extremely talented & great to talk to (especially if youre spending all day getting your hair done). This was my 4th time coming here for my hair. Ive always had good experiences and never once had an issue. Everyone that studies here wants the best for you and your hair and will do everything they can to achieve what you want!
Got my bridal hair, makeup and nails done. Expectations exceeded! Great friendly and attentive staff!
This is NOT a school or business you want to support!! As a student, staff does not cares about you here as long as you show up. The management is disorganized and extremely rude, one guy walks around calling people peasents, losers and other hurtful things. We hear all the drama with staff more than we learn new things. All you learn here is highlights and cutting techniques. If you want to learn how to be a professional, learn different hair types, or anything more than highlights and cutting methods dont waste your time. The owner comes in and makes us walk around the streets promoting the school instead of being in class learning even if its raining outside. Student bathrooms and breakroom is unsanitary. Students are the only janitor the school has. Though they do have a janitor for the downstairs mamagement office. The front desk staff are trained so badly, ive seen good people leave and bad people stay. Our washing machine has been broken for weeks it doesnt clean anything right, teachers tell us to use towels and things that havent been properly sanatized on guest. This is a BUSINESS NOT A SCHOOL. And its a poorly ran unprofessional. Overheard some teachers talking about the school shutting down because students keep dropping out. Now you know why. Admissions team is manipulative, they will talk you into joing full term just to get more money, dont let them bully you into it!!! Behind the school name is a sh*t show ran by rude bias people. Its a dirty unprofessional place to go to work and learn in. Go anywhere else for your services and education. Dont support a company like this!! I do want to thank Renee, Toi, Phillip, Layla, and Marquita for your support, everyone else sucks!!
Manicurist was ok. Taylor (who did my facial) definitely knows what she is doing. I had a wonderful and very relaxing time with her. Hairdresser is a different story. The girl who did my layers was great, but then she had to leave and another girl finished my haircut. That new girl had no clue how to comb, style or blowdry curly hair. That was really said.P.S. It is a little bit chaotic there, so come prepared to spend a lot of time there.
I mean... I would recommend going to a real salon... I went to get my nails done and the girl was nice but they put you in a room that smells like so many chemicals its hard to sit there. They did give me a mask though so that was nice. But honestly, I wanted to save some money and its not worth it. The manicure is awful, uneven layers and bits of nail polish all over the place. disappointed to say the least, I mean cmon I do it myself better :/ and the spa experience is just rubbing greasy exfoliator all over your arms, cold towels and excess cheap lotion. 15$ tho so *shrug*
RANDY MARSH WOULD SAY WORSE THAN CHS!! AND I KNOW WHAT IS UP WIT CHS
Parking can be an issue, but overall the work is amazing, and the price is good. Just try to remember, they are students, and sometimes the appointments are a little slower because they are learning.
I had an awful experience last Wednesday. I went in for color and cut. When she had finished coloring my hair she hadnt covered the gray. When I told her she said nothing. I told her supervisor and he said yes he could see that there was still gray. I was told to come back in and he would have another student fix it but I would have to pay for product. He did cut and style my hair. When he was done it was actually what I said I didnt want. I walked out there filling ugly. The student also burned my neck and my back was soaking after she rinsed my hair. I ask for my money back and was told they didnt do that. You do not want to go there.
Not a bad place to go if you have endless amount of time or are going for a pedicure/facial. It took 5 hours for a full weave, 5 HOURS! And i really didnt even like what she did. Not to mention I left looking frizzy, unstyled and terrible!
They ruined my hair. Wanted it red which i can do by my self every year. I had been Goin her for 3 years. I was they for 7 hours no water, no break for food and they left my blah on for 3 hours. Fried my hair about 6 inches. Finally my hair was orange. I left crying. They put some mal in my hair and told me to come back the next day and they would fix it. 4 hours later it wasnt fixed and i was still so upset, they still made me pay for it. Meanwhile truong to all me products to fix my hair when it was fine before i went there. Never again. Im still upset
I have 15+yrs in direct Cilustomer service.I went in to support my friend whos going to school here. Hes really good with hair.Let me start by saying Kade is the only staff person there with customer service and people skills. Hes professional, good at what he does and is very centered. Hes just awesome. When I first walk in the receptionist is rude and short tempered. She doesnt know the first thing about working with customers. While the hair dye was developing one of the staff came over and told my friend she needed to speak with him NOW. He responded, Im with a client, Ill come find you after. The staff person sharply and in a harsh tone reaponded, NO, NOW She when outside with him and kept him there for about 15mins. When he first went out I made the comment, I hope everythings ok to which a staff person helping the student to my left said some really rude things about my friend. The tensions were so high it triggered me and I left as soon as he washed the color out and didnt get all the services I had gone in for.Student pay a ton and have set standards and conditions they are required to meet but the school never hold up their end of it.The staff are rude and condescending, the sinks where they wash hair are broken, they had no towels because the washer or dryer was broken, and no conditioner on the counters at the sinks, Just to name a few things.Youre required to pay no matter how bad students mess up and when they reschedule you to fix,it they charge you again. The students dont make anything off their work unless you leave them a tip on top of the cost. Their prices ars too high for the quality of work you get from the average student. After my last customer experience I dont ever wanna go back there. It was terrible.
Fun environment. great music. friendly staff and students!
Great Haircut !Great artistic color and style .Friendly knowledgable staff .Comfortable salon .ive been going to Salon for years and love it !Fun to watch the students blossom .
Went in for a balayage, guy told me he was experienced in doing so and I had told him beforehand that I had black growing out from my previous dye, said it would be no problem. Turned out not even blonde, it was a copper tone which I hate. Got back home and noticed all the blotchyness and noticed botches of bright blonde in random places. Called back same day to see if I could come back in and have it fixed, manager was very very rude and told me it would cost be another 40-50 dollars to fix their mistake when I already paid 80 for the first dye. Never going back again!
The services here are top notch and super affordable. I cant believe anyone would get theyre hair cut anywhere else!
I came in to Paul Mitchell with my mom on the 14th and had a wonderful experience. There is a lot of good high energy in the salon and everyone was very hospitable. We saw Ashley Trimbo and Cassidy Kinnaman and they both did and AMAZING job!! They are both so sweet and very professional. I received an awesome all over color, conditioning treatment and haircut and my mother got the best highlights shes ever received - she actually teared up when she saw the final results :) On top of it all, it was my moms birthday so all of her services and products were 50% off. We felt very pampered and well-taken care of, 4 hours of services flew by. The instructors are also very attentive and Danny had great ideas for my hair color.I highly recommend coming in and getting services done here - we are very happy with our results and you cant beat the price. We will definitely be coming in again!
The service was great! Highly recommended.
You get what you sign up for, a student who is instructed how to do what you are asking for. $12 and some patience got me the best haircut of my life.
Very friendly staff and nice cheap prices!
It has good quality
I went in to lighten my hair and they died it brown...???
Waste of time and money avoid as you would avoid cancer.
KENNEDY is the WORST Stylist ever.
Cheap place to get a manicure or haircut, but beware! its a gamble, will take twice as long, and the student may not care.
No good.
