Brandon was great--friendly, fast, accommodating, and very clear at explaining why my XC70 was chewing though low beam bulbs for breakfast. Will definitely come back next time I need any service/repairs for my Volvo!

I have 4 Volvos officially, and 2 more in storage next door (awaiting paperwork transfers), Models from 1982-2015. 2 240 sedans, 2 V70 T5s (98 and 02, Manual!), an XC90, and a V60 t5.Ive been going to Alamo (now Tabor) since they were founded. Dennis is still there, Mitch has retired, and passed his baton to Brandon.Great fast service, (considering its a 2 man operation) and now they handle more modern Volvos on top of the older ones.

Mitch and Dennis are simply the best, honest, quick, and do excellent lasting work. Just knowing they are there relieves so much anxiety about owning my old jalopy. They keep it running like its brand new. If you cant get them on the phone just drive over and schedule an appointment. A true Portland treasure who really know their Volvo stuff!

Great shop, great mechanics. Mitch and Dennis were always very knowledgeable and professional. Prices were reasonable too. My only complaint is that they never answer their phone or return messages. Which while irritating wasnt a deal breaker when I just worked up the street. However, when I moved to Tualatin, it became too much of a hassle to have to drive all the way into town just to make an appt. So I had to find a new mechanic. Fortunately, PDX has several great Volvo mechanics.

When has going to an auto repair shop ever made your day? That is a sentence I would likely think never to force breath from my lungs! But, Alamo has made the impossible happen. Thank you for treating me so well and running such a superb business!

There really isnt anything else great to say about these guys that hasnt already been said. I have an 83 244 and I will only take my car to them. They have advised against things i wanted done simply because it wasnt necessary and/or was more expensive than something else they could do that would solve the problem. That is super rare with any mechanic. Simply put, they know their stuff and will definitely give you a fair and reasonable price on repairs. Only thing that I would say is a negative is that it is extremely difficult to get your car in without a 2 week to sometimes 2 month wait. (seriously, they are that busy.) And dont even bother calling, Ive never gotten an answer, or a call back. So, you gotta make your way over there just to see when/if you can get your car in sometime within a month. Otherwise, if youre not needing your car for daily use, or you are close enough to go see them, they are the ones to go to.

I have an 87 240 and i would never take it anywhere else. By far the nicest, most honest and knowledge auto shop ive ever been to. Old school dudes, super busy most of the time, but always willing to help you out and answer questions. Every time i get my car back from them its like she just spent the day at the spa. LOVE LOVE LOVE Mitch and Dennis at Alamo.

The place is pretty run down looking, but I had read some good reviews, so I tried them anyways. They werent able to handle my problem (they arent a dealer, so cant honor Volvo recalls), but were very friendly, informative, and helpful. Ill definitely be back.

I had recently purchased my first Volvo; a red, 15 year-old Cross Country wagon I affectionately named Ruby (although she did suffer a bit of name-calling the first few weeks of ownership as she had an array of undisclosed problems the previous owner, of course, failed to mention). Regardless of her imperfect condition, I was head-over-heels in love. Its a feeling only fellow elder-Volvo owners know well.Having just relocated to Portland, I wasnt thrilled about finding a trusted, local automotive mechanic (mostly because Im pretty sure thats considered an oxymoron), as Ive experienced my share of aggressive, near-criminal transactions from dealerships to local shops in the past. I know having a vagina often exacerbates these experiences, but I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable car owner, reading entire manuals, researching issues using code readers, and making common repairs requiring a little research and elbow grease....But you dont need to know NUTHIN dealing with Mitch, Dennis, and Brandon over at Alamo Automotive. I have never had such a positive experience addressing vehicle repair. Not only did they get to know me and my vehicle, they reciprocated my love and enthusiasm for older Volvo cars - if that wasnt completely obvious as their entire lot is brimming with mostly cars at least fifteen years old. After completing the repair of my vehicle and diagnosing a recurring and mysterious oil burning smell, they not only came in under budget, but prepared an entire list of services I would need, triaged them in order of most urgent, and provided prices for all of it. Who does that??? People who really, really care about keeping your Volvo on the road for 100,000 more miles than you expected. Thats who these guys are.Alamo Automotive has three things that are almost impossible to find together at any shop, anywhere: complete honesty, lowest cost, and specialized lifetime experience. They dont have three things that some shops might have but are essentially meaningless: a comfortable waiting room for you to fart around in and drink shitty coffee (you get a great price because they arent in the business of charging you to remodel their shop), a useless receptionist to pass on messages (sometimes theyre not able to answer the phone when you call - because theyre actually working on your car!), or surprise upsells (because theyre honest and want you to come back if you need them).Protip: be respectful and give them a couple weeks notice to make an appointment; they very obviously are the best in the entire region and have deservedly gained an almost cult-like following.Ill be taking my Volvo in again soon. Just for preventative maintenance. And because I like Mitchs hugs.
