I never thought Id feel a fondness for an automotive repair shop, but here we are. I love this place. I know nothing about cars and these folks really walk you through whats going on with your car and what the best thing to do is. I was going on a long trip and they recommended I check my oil fairly frequently. I, of course didnt know how to do that, and they graciously showed me how without the slightest bit of judgement. Angels. I think you should take your car here.

I took my Subaru in late and used the night drop, which was very handy and clearly marked. I felt secure leaving my keys and was told the next day that my car would be looked at as soon as that afternoon despite how busy they were. My car repairs were done in two days and I drove away with a new clutch and a smooth drive. The amount I paid ended up being slightly less than I was quoted which was nice, though the work was worth every penny. The customer service was exceptional and everyone was very friendly and appreciative of my business. I would very much recommend this shop to anyone looking for an honest mechanic at a good price. So so happy I found them just down the street from my new neighborhood! So happy! Give them your business!

Had my Ford Expedition for 6 years, had 62,000 miles, bought brand new, Limited model, had oil changes every 5000 miles like clockwork. No accidents, no major service needed, ever. Trade in value was over $30,000. Then, had minor leak of coolant. Brought to PDX Automotive. They couldn’t find the leak so suggested they keep the truck there running over night in hopes in the morning when they showed up the leak would have revealed itself. It did. They fixed it and called me to pick it up. I did. When I picked it up I turned the car on and the a/c was on full blast and my car seats were hot as if the seat heaters had been on a long time. On the way home (I live about a mile away) a fire broke out under the dash. I pulled over and watched my beloved truck burst into flames, explode, and melt until it was a shell of itself. A utility pole I parked next to caught on fire. Hours later my neighbors were returning parts of my truck they found on their lawn from the explosions.After the firefighters put out the flames and had all left, I calmed down (a little) and I called PDX Automotive to let them know what happened. John seemed very shocked at what happened and swore he would call his insurance to handle the claim. Insurance sent out an investigator who concluded the fire probably started because the car was left on overnight and the a/c motor caught on fire as a result. However, when he contacted John he insisted they did not leave the car on overnight and would never do such a thing. So, it was his word against mine and I lose. Now, I am out more than $30,000, plus, I have to pay for a new car, and PDX Automative moves on with no consequences.I warn every one who is thinking of getting their car fixed at PDX Automative to stay far away or your car/truck could end up like mine.

When the key icon stayed lit on my wife’s 2016 Honda HR-V, she took it to PDX Automotive, our “regular” mechanic. By regular, I mean the mechanic within walking distance of our home, but we’ve only needed services about a half dozen times in the last ten years.The short story is this: every step of the way PDX attempted to help us find the easiest solution that would save us time & money. Sometimes when you are dealing with experts (auto experts, computer experts, language experts, management experts) they will sometimes talk down to you and tell you what to do instead of telling you what you need to know. PDX was just the opposite – listening to our concerns and suggestions then answering our questions and working with us.Here’s the fuller story:John said he could run a diagnostics on the starter mechanism, but maybe we would prefer to just change the batteries in the key fob to see if that really inexpensive option worked. He didn’t try to sell us on any services we might not need. Try this free option first was his recommendation.But after replacing the batteries in both fobs, the key icon remained lit after starting the car. A relative of mine had to have her starter button in her Honda replaced last year so I asked John to order a new starter.Within a few days the key icon no longer stayed lit. John still thought I should bring it in for a diagnostic, but he agreed to cancel the order for the starter. I offered to pay a restocking fee or a fee for the fooling around with this, but John said that wasn’t necessary.Three days later the Honda wouldn’t start. The tow truck guy came out and gave me a jump and this time the car started right up and the icon didn’t stay lit. But I’d had enough so I drove the car to PDX Automotive. In less than two days PDX had replaced the now dead battery and the starter (John’s diagnostics confirmed it was broken).Good work PDX Automotive team.

Took my working van in for blown headgasket repairs. They took it all apart then said it would cost more to fix and more to put it back together. They talked to my roommate who offered to pay for repairs but didnt let me know before dismantling the engine. Im the owner of the vehicle and should have been advised of all repairs or estimates in writing. Not my roommate over the phone. Roommate refused to pay to get it put back together so now Im out of a working vehicle.Lesson learned........get all estimates and repairs in writing before authorizing any work done on your vehicle.Other than that the customer service was good.

My car had several different codes it was throwing that wouldn’t come up on standard AutoZone reader and the drivability of my vehicle was affected. I was able to make an appointment online and got a response confirming my appointment as soon as the office was open. My diagnostic was done in one day, I got the answer that I needed, and got set up with an appointment to get my vehicle repaired when the parts we’re set to arrive. John is an absolute treat to work with and I will definitely be coming back!

It doesnt get any better than these guys. I needed a diagnostic and a health check for a used car I already bought. They squeezed me In within the day and communicated with me about what was being done and for what reasons. The prices were very fair. When I picked it up I had one other issue that they saw me for the next day and fixed free of charge.I will absolutely be going here again for scheduled maintenence and keeping my truck on the road!

I was lucky to find PDX automotive through Car Talk shortly after I arrived in Portland several years ago. I have appreciated their honesty and good work! They have found a way to get me in quickly more than once for an emergency and have always been great about walking me through what really NEEDS to be done and what can wait. Scheduled an appointment before the afternoon, I brought the part they needed for the replacement job, just needed to pay labor. Got the quote on the phone and when I dropped off the vehicle, 30 minutes later they called me back, saying, it was double the price they quoted me on the phone before I left home... very dissatisfied and disappointed...

Our needs are always promptly met with easy to understand explanations, and we feel PDX automotive has been honest which is earned.Fortunately we have only needed their services for major repairs once or twice a year however we have our car and truck oil changes by PDX auto as well. Never once have we felt taken advantage of. For instance, upon my last oil change, my tires were rotated and the mechanic noticed my brakes were close to gone. It wasnt word of mouth, but physically showing me. No pressure was put on me to get the work done now, merely letting me know. This is the family type atmosphere and relationship we are very fortunate to have with PDX Auto. Anytime we have a question over the phone, the staff is always friendly and helpful to answer our questions, no matter if it directly benefits making money from us. Never Taken Advantage OF! They were honest and straightforward both about what my car needed and whether it was worth it to fix. (It wasnt - rather than trying to convince me to undergo costly repairs, John told me that the repairs would exceed the value of the car, repaired)When I decided to look for used cars, I went to PDX Automotive for a check. They gave me a multi-page printout of commentary on each aspect of the vehicle, and told me what theyd recommend. A dealer was offering a 3,000 mile warranty, and there was nothing wrong with the car that would become an issue in that length of time, but several thousands of dollars of repairs that would be necessary in the next year or so, depending on how I drove it. John gave me recommendations on what to look for and what to avoid - even though if I go against his recommendation, its going to mean far more money for him.The summary of this is that these are good, honest guys. Theyre not going to try to scam you, theyre not going to try to convince you to get services you dont need. Theyre just going to tell you the truth and give you good advice. And what else could you ask for in a mechanic?

I have had PDX Automative perform major repairs on my 1998 Nisson Frontier twice and both times have been satisfied with the work. Recently, I was having difficulty replacing a headlight bulb and came in without an appointment. The person at the counter graciously left his work and came out and quickly made the replacement. Small gestures such as this example create loyal customers.

I love these people! After some disasters with mechanics in our youth, we found PDX Automotive when they were still at their old location at 60th & E Burnside. That was a long time ago! Outside of oil changes, we use this company exclusively to do the work on our vehicles. They have always been courteous and friendly, when I deal with them alone, they NEVER talk down to if me like Im a dumb woman (I did have that happen at a brake shop once, ugh!). They will be honest in telling you what repairs your car needs, how much it will cost you, and will help you prioritize the repairs if necessary.

Very good, fast service--and I limped my car in off the street, with no appointment ahead of time, just because they were close to where my car had broken down. Thought my alternator had given out. PDX Auto diagnosed that it was only a bad battery. So they saved me money. They could have told me it WAS the alternator and made more off my problem, but they just asked if Id like to buy a battery from them, or go somewhere cheaper. I elected to have them install one and its working fine, problem solved. They really are mechanics with a conscience. Ill go to them again.

Great guys. They dont talk to me like Im stupid or try to sell me things I dont need. BIGGEST thing is that they havent lied to my face either. My last shop said they were replacing a timing belt when I actually had a timing chain. Long story short pdx automotive saved me $500.00 and made me a returning customer.
