My wife along with our 3 children, 2 of which are in diapers, Rented a Chevy Traverse. The car had issues starting, MULTIPLE times. When she called Road side assistance, they informed her that she would have to drive 2 hours to exchange the vehicle, all while the car dies out at stop lights, 2 babies, unload all your luggage and car seats, lose out on 6 hours of your trip because #hertz runs a shady business! She was then advised to have the battery tested, (you know because she is a mechanic for #hertz it’s her job to keep the car up and running) in which she did by a certified mechanic, who explained that the battery had full amps and power, the issue was not the battery, rather it was a charging issue. The vehicle died out multiple times while she was on the road when she came to stops! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Roadside was not able to help. She was up in Alabama while I was down in Florida not able to help!!I called and spoke with several reps at Hertz and no one is willing to help with any type of compensation, rather they make it seem as if we are the problem. I have used Hertz before and did not have any problems, but this experience and lack of professionalism from this company no longer warrants my business! #hertz #hertzcarrental

This place is awful I was able to book a van online but the moment I came into the store and the lady at the counter show I was Latino she automatically change her attitude with me and told.me she no longer had a minivan and wheni pointer to her that there was one out in the parking lot she said it was for another costumer. Ill start by saying that I was a loyal Hertz customer before this and Ive had good experiences with Hertz at this location in the recent past.That said, unfortunately, my last experience was horrendous. I rented a cargo van from this location on 30 June 2021 and before I left the lot, I informed them of a cracked windshield, cracked interior dashboard on the instrument cluster, a damaged USB port, and upper right body damage.No-one had inspected the vehicle with me (unlike most professional organizations), so I reported what I had found and asked for a form to document the damage on. The vehicle was also not clean and I found the last rental ticket in the glove compartment along with an old, used face mask. The response I got when I reported the damage I found was baffling (and shame on me for following it, but I was in a rush), but the desk clerk told me not to worry about it and that these vehicles have a lot of wear and tear on them. As I was in a rush, I proceeded off the lot and thought nothing more of it.A few days later, I also noticed that the registration had expired - the license plate had stickers that showed 1/21, indicating the registration had expired in January, 2021 and when I double checked in the glove compartment, the form confirmed that the registration was indeed January, 2021. I immediately called the office and was told that they would work on it and send me an e mail once they got the updated registration. I gave them a week and hearing nothing, I called again and got the same response. In fact, I never received any updated registration information, even after returning the vehicle.After an uneventful trip, I returned the vehicle on 28 July 2021 and received a call the next day that I needed to come in and fill out an accident report on the cracked windshield. Needless to say, I was incensed and came back in to remind the office of what I had reported before I left the lot, but no-one listened and everyone had seemingly forgotten.Today, 26 August, I received a letter charging me $692, presumably for a new windshield, with no communication from Hertz Corporate or the Port Charlotte office. I have no idea what the actual cost was and no documentation was provided by Hertz.Shame on Hertz and the Port Charlotte office for their unprofessionalism and poor customer support. If you choose to do business with them, proceed with extreme caution. Insist that they inspect the vehicle with you and if they refuse, then inspect your vehicle thoroughly and take video/pictures with date time stamps to document the condition of your rental BEFORE you leave the lot. It is the ONLY way they will be forced to tell the truth when confronted with the proof.

The Lady behind the counter it was very polite and patient with us. However there needs to be more clear communication between this company and the third party sites they use. My father is on a bucket list trip after a cancer diagnosis and had we known there were so many requirements outside of heres a bunch of money to rent a vehicle we would have come more prepared. For reference while a majority of Americans participate in credit there are some people from older families from other countries that believe spending money thats not yours or that paying money to spend your own money is nonsense. This isnt meant to be a rant just pointing out that if the third party site that allowed you to rent a vehicle were more explicit with the requirements we wouldnt have wasted four and a half hours trying to rent a vehicle.

I had left behind an extremely valuable item of jewellery in my rental when I returned the car. Worth more than the vehicle. I spent a week panicked thinking my watch was gone. I suddenly thought I should check to see if I left the watch in the rental - and indeed, the friendly folks at Port Charlotte Hertz had found it, and carefully put my watch aside for me. Their service and honesty restored my faith in humanity - I was sure my watch was gone, but now have it back safely! Thank you so much Port Charlotte Hertz for being so honest and attentive.

Hertz was the worst experience in car rental ever!!! We had to rent a car quickly to go see my grandma who was diagnosed with cancer the day before in North Carolina. We left from Florida at 1 am and by 3 am the AC and defrosters were completely out. We were in such a rush to get there because of the circumstances so we kept driving. Now mind you this is February and it was 29° in North Carolina and raining and we had our 3 children in the backseat. The windows were so fogged up that we couldnt see out at all driving in the mountains because the defrosters were out! We couldnt open the windows because it was raining and 29°. We had to pull over on the side of the interstate with our children for 2 hours. We called the office we rented from and she told us to go the nearest airport which was 1 hour and 45 mins out of our way and they would just switch the car out. We did just that, got there and they informed us that they were franchise and could help us. So all that time was wasted seeing my grandmother. We then call her back and she lets us know all we can do at this point is to try roadside assistance so we did that next. The woman who we finally got on the phone which was completely rude and acted as though it was a bother we even called says okayyyy, so your ac dont work?!?! Very sarcastically as if that was the only issue I just told her... I said no we have no defrosters its 29° and were on the side of the interstate with our children in the back. She then got really rude and says okay, what would you like me to do? I said we want this car switched out. She says okay, well I can have a car out to you in 6 HOURS!!!! Are you kidding me... We have already lost all this precious time with my grandmother and we are on the side of the darn road!!!! We just hung up at that point and drove like 20 miles and hour through the mountains to try to get to my grandmothers. It was thee worst experience ever... The next morning the ac was working again and went in and out the entire time we had the car. I have videos of the ordeal. And we were still charged FULL PRICE!!!

What a terrible experience with this unknowledgeable location...I booked through Priceline.com for a mid-sized SUV with 4 wheel / AWD. My family was headed into the mountains to see snow and it was very important that we had that feature for our safety. I called the location prior to booking to make sure that they could accommodate and they said yes. This was two days prior to pickup. On the day of scheduled pickup I called the location to verify as well as the Hertz 800 number. According to the 800 number all mid sized SUVs that hold 5 or more passengers are guaranteed to be AWD. The location confirmed that they had one available as well. Once I arrived at the location to pick up my vehicle they tried to give me a vehicle that wasnt AWD claiming she thought it was. For people who deal with cars everyday for a living they have NO IDEA what they are doing! Then she said they didnt have any available and they rarely see an SUV with AWD at their location. Contradicting what we were told on the phone by both the location and the Hertz 800 number. Then they tried to offer us a gas-guzzling truck that didnt fit our family and wasnt what we reserved online. The customer service was terrible. Thank goodness Avis down the street had one available and was able to get us in a vehicle within 20 minutes without issue. On top of all of the issues we paid in full up front, and the location was unable to refund us, so I had to wait on hold again with the Hertz 800 number to be refunded. When I let them know of the issue they said that the location should be more knowledgeable and was not operating per Hertz standards and apologized. Take your business elsewhere!

Poor customer service. This place and company are only concerned with making money off of their customers. And they wonder why they went bankrupt! The vehicle given to me was late, not clean, and not full on gas. However, they asked for the car to be returned on full. After returning the vehicle, I was charged extra fees that were not made aware to me at the beginning of the rental. This is the lesson learned when you deal with Mickey Mouse store front companies.

Michelle, who is supposed to be a manager, was very unfriendly, unhelpful and when I asked to use the bathroom for my 85 year old father, she said sorry cant help you, theres a gas Station across the street. It was the way she said it. She just didnt want to be bothered with our business.

After returning home and getting our credit card statement. We are extremely upset over the hidden fees. I did call about these charges but didnt get anywhere. This is so unethical. SO PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE HIDDEN CHARGES AFTER YOU TURN IN YOUR CAR.We will NEVER rent from Hertz again.Im just sorry I cant rate them lower than one star. This will be shared on social media..

Great location which has repeatedly gone far above and beyond to help my mother-in-law arrange transportation to her medical appointments. Martin in particular spent an extended period helping explain the online booking and app processes which resulted in a better experience for her. Excellent service and good people who care about their customers.

When I arrived at the office to pick up my rental car around 10am, I was informed that they had no cars available for my reservation. I was told that 10 people were supposed to drop off cars that morning and no one had. I didnt receive any calls prior to my pick up time so I could find other options and I wasnt given any options from this Hertz location while I was at the office. The representative said the only option was for us to hope that someone dropped off a car. I had to ask if he was even going to call me to let me know if they did and he said he would, but the office was closing at noon. I never got a call and had to call twice before someone answered the phone at 11:50ish. This location is very unorganized, unreliable, and unprofessional and I wont be using them again.

Terrible! returned rental 7/23/19 and 8/10/19 still have not received my refund of $200 promised in 2-3 business days.Rental at Jacksonville Airport after travel for Bereavement.No one can tell me why $200 deposit has not been refunded. I reserved a rental through them online for this weekend, and when I showed up to pick up the rental I was denied the rental because I could not produce a credit card, I had a debit card and was willing to let them put a hold on the cash in the account but Rhee still denied the sale, when I asked them why no one informed me I could not rent without a major credit card (I do not own a credit card I never have and never will) the woman at the desk told me “it was probably in the fine print somewhere” she then told me “just find a friend who can use their card and sign for you”. I then just asked for the 20$ back for rental insurance that was taken from my bank when I account returned they told me that “we didn’t charge insurance fees so that’s from a third party and we can’t help you”. All in all I now have five family members in town and I drive a two door Kia I guess I’ll just give my business to Uber or a cab company to drive us around.

From the moment I made the reservation to the returning of the car, it was a most enjoyable experience. I had requested a pick up and was accommodated in such a timely and pleasant manner. The supervisor picked me up and brought me to the store and there I met Mark, who expedited me in such a timely manner and I was given a new car with low miles and good gas mileage. They were so helpful in answering my questions and addressing any of my concerns. I had the car for 1 week and made pick ups at Tampa Airport, beach runs, and taking relatives on excursions. I then was afforded the courtesy of being dropped off after I returned the car. Only the highest praise for all involved and would definitely recommend to my family and friends. Thank you all Gail

I made reservations and I was on a strict timeline to rent a car, go to work, then hit the road. I had a hotel booked for that night to ease the 13 hour drive only for them to reject my card based on the fact my pay check is direct deposited into the checking account, its a visa debit card and had more than enough money in it to cover. Thanks to this frenzy nothing could be negotiated such as paying cash for deposit and charging the actual rental on a different card. Before renting from them find out if they will even accept your card. Otherwise you end up like me, a charged hotel stay that I cant even make, and instead of 2 days for a 13 hour drive I have to do it in one day because I used a different company to rent from the next day who were more than helpful and willing to rent me a car.

Called to make a reservation and mark quoted me $125 per day for a full size when I asked for a compact. He said he didnt have anything else available and because of his availability the price was higher. This did not include any extras, that would cost even more! Enterprise quoted me $89.19 out the door for 2 days with unlimited mileage and two drivers. Guess who gets my business!!!

I usually rent from Enterprise, but thought I would give Hertz a try once again because they advertised a Ford Focus, so I reserved a Ford Focus a month ahead of our vacation. We were given a Hyundai Accent instead when we got there. Not anywhere near the size or quality of the Ford I thought we would get. The Accent was absolutely filthy! The seats were stained, and the floor looked like it had not been vacuumed in months, while the trunk area looked like it had been used to haul hay. They did not want to do the normal walk around inspection either, but I pushed for that since the body was dented and the paint scratched in many places. The worst was the smell inside. Someone had smoked in it and this set off my wifes asthma. We returned it the next day and were given a Ford Fiesta instead. Still not the size or quality of the Focus I thought I had reserved. While this car was clean, the transmission was so bad it made it hard to move through traffic. I had to nearly floor the accelerator to get it across an intersection. We tried taking it on a short 50 mile trip to visit other friends and we were not sure we would get back. The rest of the vacation it sat at our friends condo and the friend took us every where.This is my last rental from Hertz. My last previous rental was from Enterprise, I again reserved a smaller car, but when we got there we were told we could have any car on the lot. That car was not only clean and odor free, but in great mechanical condition. Do your self a favor and go down the block a short distance and rent from Enterprise and avoid the junk Hertz is putting on the road.

Its ok. Heavy construction started inside. Car could have smelled better, trash left inside and attendant told me cart was across the street when it was only across the parking lot. After a few minutes of looking for for the right car I gave up and came back inside to feel like an idiot for not realizing that across the street was the same as across the parking lot.

They have said I returned the car to a different location, and no one can answer my questions. I was with my son when I returned the car to the port charlotte office. I feel they have been most unprofessional.

This is definitely off the hidden path. We didnt expect it to be so far from Punta Gorda airport. It was about a $30 taxi ride that was about 30 minutes away. The prices were much better than the airport for sure. Its a hole in the wall, hard to spot off the main drag. The office itself is dated and felt dingy. The customer service was great, though we did have to wait quite awhile to get our car (not enough staff to handle the 4 people there to rent). The car was decent, a little banged up but no big deal.

My wife called earlier in the day our insurance company is splitting cost for a rental and the staff was completely rude to her she asked for a mini van being we have a six seater in the shop and the nerve of this “customer service “ specialist was to say if you needed bigger than an suv you should have asked . Last time I checked suv is smaller than mini van I will never use hertz for a rental ever again just from the attitude given to my wife when they should be as helpful as possible it is job security that she is renting the car

A very horrible experience. I reserved a midsize car and when I picked up the car I asked how much to rent a full size car. Representative said it costs $40 my response was great for $3 I would love the bigger car. He was so involved with trying to sell me the insurance that he completely didnt hear what I said.I told him 3 times I didnt want the insurance.I returned the car and the cost was actually $40 more than the rate I reserved. It was my error not to look at the paperwork I signed . So beware when going to this car rental office. Make sure you read what they are charging you.

Landed in Punta Gorda to pickup our rental car that we booked months prior at this Hertz in which upon arrival the doors are closed on weekends?! Charged our card a month prior, spent over $65 on 2 separate uber trips, spent 3 hours stranded looking for another rental car because they ran out of vehicles... Not the best way to start or vacation and absolutely the LAST time we ever use Hertz. Incompetent workers who dont even care or want to help the situation. My familys extremely upset ...and our level of frustration right now is beyond words... if I could Id rate this - negative and I hope people read and see this and utilize it therefore no other families have to go through this BS!!!

The check- in and check- out process was easy and simple. The price was not the cheapest but reasonable. The reasoning for the low star rate was because I reserved a full size car and was given a midsize. When I complained to the gentleman he had a yeah who cares attitude. And told me that it depends on the make and model of the car and it was considered a full size. This car was a Chevy Cruz . Not a full size car at all. My personal car is a Camry and it is bigger. Then the car was a eco saver so it would turn all the way off almost whenever we stopped at a light or anything. It was very annoying. Then the car is equipped with wifi but you have to pay extra for it. Which I think is ridiculous. I will not be using this company again due to the fact that the gentleman didnt seem to even care about my concerns and just wanted to get me out of the door.
