I rented from Dollar and got a car from LAX. I returned the original car because it smelled like smoke. No issues and they gave us a second car. This car too had a faint smell of smoke. Noticed the air freshener that they placed in the car has a musky smell. Two non smokers who did not go to any smoky bars returned the car and then was charged a $300 smoking fee. When asked how to dispute it said only way was to file a formal complaint online when I got the car. Complaining to the people at the counter is not sufficient and nothing I can dispute since the guy at Grand Junction said I smoked in the car and it didn’t matter if the people before us were also charged a smoking charge.

HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT RISK RENTING FROM THEM! My 79-year-old parents, who have excellent credit, arrived at Pittsburgh airport today and went to the Dollar Car Rental counter to retrieve the car they had reserved and paid for in advance. Dollar Car Rentals refused to allow them to rent a vehicle and left them stranded at the airport because the soft credit check they did through Equifax rejected their credit for purposes of securing the rental. My parents called me in distress, and I spoke with the attendant and the manager to try to understand what was happening and to try to assist. They blamed corporate policy and offered no assistance whatsoever. After suffering great distress, embarrassment, and delay, my parents were able to rent a vehicle from Budget Rental Cars at Pittsburgh Airport. Budget also ran a soft credit check and summarily approved my parents.The Equifax check that Dollar Car Rentals uses is wrong and unreliable. Even more egregious than the error through Equifax, however, is the conduct of the manager at Dollar Car Rentals at the Pittsburgh Airport. He was unwilling to take any action to assist my parents-- customers who had already paid for a car and who were there, in person, seemingly with no other options. If you are in need of a rental vehicle, I urge you to consider the risk of scheduling a rental with Dollar Car Rentals even if you have perfect credit. This company should not be trusted by anyone who needs to reliably rent a vehicle. I am very rarely compelled to write a negative review, but I am appalled and I think this situation merits a warning to prospective renters. This company, particularly the office in Pittsburgh, is the worst I have ever encountered.

Got charged for fuel even though I refilled the tank before dropping it off! Called the customer service and waited on the line for good 30-40 min and no one responded. This is totally unacceptable. Wont rent with Dollar ever again and advise people to stay away from them.

We had a terrible experience. We waited in line 1.5 hours, and our car still wasnt ready. We were also charged for a full tank of gas, which I did not include in my reservation. The lady at the counter made it seem like it was part if my reservation. We only used a quarter tank of gas and NOT reimbursed for the remaining tank when we turned the car in the same day. Come to find out, she added that to our reservation without asking. It would have been way cheaper for me to pay for the gas we used. I completed a customer survey addressing these concerns and have heard back NOTHING. Horrible experience and customer service. I will never use dollar again.

Booked our flight and car rental over 2 months ago. We get in from our flight and go to pick up our car and find out there policy had changed and now have to have a credit card to pick up the type of vehicle we had already paid for. My wife and I dont use credit cards and debit cards isnt good enough for them they had also changed from a 200 dollar deposit to a 500 dollar deposit. Not to mention the car we had to downgrade to there still trying to charge us the same price as the suv we had paid for. Absolutely the worst rental car company and the people at the desk were extremely rude. If I was you Id definitely pay a little more and go with a different company

If I could give this location and the overall Hertz/Dollar Rental company a zero star I would. I paid in full when reserving the vehicle and picked up the car on May 15th, 2021 in the afternoon. My rental reservation was until 4:00pm EST on May 17th, 2021. I returned the vehicle in the Dollar Rental parking lot of the Pittsburgh airport parked behind the other returned vehicles. I returned the car 8 hours earlier than planned. The Dollar Rental office was closed whenI returned the vehicle. The Dollar Rental associate I spoke with specifically told me (the call was recorded) I needed to overnight the keys to the Pittsburgh Dollar Rental address. I overnighted the keys that same day (on May 17th with a certified tracking number) and they arrived at the airport on May 18th. Since I dropped off the car, Dollar Rental/Hertz has still failed to close my case. They have charged me $100 every day plus an additional $290 random charge. I have called Hertz/Dollar Rental countless times now and no one seems to know how to either close out my case and/or I am on hold for hours. I have asked multiple times to speak to management and Hertz/Dollar Rental refuses to provide management contact information. Hertz/Dollar Rental has been sending me letters in the mail and the numbers on the official letters are non-working numbers. This company is a scam. Do not rent from them. I have never had such a horrible experience renting a car as I have with Dollar Rental/Hertz. At this point, I have been forced to take legal action and contacted law enforcement as well.

The staff at the airport counter was terrible. I had my reservation on 1 of April for 30 days. It was my first time renting a car- ever! I mistakenly took my pre-paid card instead of credit card on pickup day, and they told me that I cant come back in the same day with credit card, and that I have to come again to the airport next day (what was the reason for this? Malice?) I know that English isnt my native language but the people at the counter were so irritated and unpleasant that it was feeling guilty for asking for a car.Next day they overcharged me on liability insurance, that I tried to explain that I already have it on my card. And I had to also pay 377$ for possibility of another driver (my wife) who only drived the car once.And the car smeled like cigarette ashtray all the time.So than you Dollar for this experience. Now I now that its better not to rent a car at your company.

Booked a car online. the sign says cars available but as soon as we talked to the lady, she said take a seat because it will take an hour for the system to process and it will go to Ireland and back (did not bother checking the computer, just went on her paperwork). She also said that they have no cars at the moment and showed us the list of names that needs to pick up their cars. 20min later 2 guys came up the line and she handed them keys. note: she said she had no cars available at the moment. In this day and age, an hour for the system to process??? Please dont post cars available if you have none!I called customers service and said it was the 2nd complaint for the day, this is 6am! customers service said our name is already in the system and spoke with the lady, then she confirmed w customers service that there are NO CARS! one hour later a guy helped me and there are 10 car keys in the basket. horrible experience!

Absolutely terrible customer service. My rental total was supposed to be $247.00 including taxes and fees. After checking my card once the trip was over I found out they charged me $200 more and then would not explain to me why my price doubled. Ive called customer service multiple times only to be spoken down to and treated as a liar. Save yourself a ton of trouble and DO NOT rent from this company even if its the only car left on the planet.

Since COVID you are unable to pay your toll at a toll booth and everything is done by mail. Well unfortunately this company does not take that into consideration and tacks on an administration fee PER toll. This is outrageous!! I will NEVER rent from this company and I advise anyone and everyone not to as well.

So mad!! Never again!! Rented a car yesterday, finally had a chance to look at receipt. Fuel charge was not explained to me properly. Never told there was a fee for additional driver. Called 800#. Told I had to go back to where I rented the car. Asked for a direct #, told there was not one I could call. I’m here on business I don’t have time to go to the airport. Never had this issues with other car rental companies. Look at your receipt!! Don’t recommend this car rental

Web site easy to book. displays all options & all fees. best prices of any car rental companies.quick rental at desk....efficient & friendly staff. they always acknowledge my repeat business. treated me super. access to car was smooth. in & out. only issue was there was no windshield ice scraper in the car this trip/ usually there is....so we were in a tough spot when came out to an inch of frozen snow.car return was quick & easy also. attendant was very friendly- went through a checklist of items to be sure we retrieved. helpful reminders.

Car was great - checkout was fast. Realizing now, too fast. No conversation about tolls and how to navigate the toll roads (still not sure what would have been the right way to approach the toll roads...pay for a transponder from Dollar?) Just got a bill with toll amounts + an admin $15 fee/toll. Not happy.

Not at all satisfied with dollar car rental, at least in Pgh. Pa. We picked up a car later weds June 17th 20 and returned the car sat June 20th. No one was at the dollar car kiosk or office when we picked it up and no one was there to represent dollar when we dropped it off in same location, pgh intl airport. Now 4 days and I dont know how many calls later, our account is still being charged a security fee equal to that of the original rental. Granted, they are pending charges but they are still charges for a car we returned the day we were supposed to and contracted to do so. One person, one woman, Barbara, from customer service was the only one weve dealt with who made any headway at all with the situation. Oh, last evening my wife got a call insinuating that we need to return the car. Maybe if you ppl. Actually had human representation in your kiosk you would know that the car was returned where and when it was supposed to be. Luckily I took a time stamped photo of the dash showing the mileage and fuel level, which also show exact geographic location of the car when it was returned. I just hope I never have to use dollar again!

Everything was great at the beginning, then I had to extend my rental from two weeks to three weeks. Dollar charged me a little over 1,000 dollars for two weeks and for the extra week they charged me 1,200$ totaling 2,200$. Dollar never told me my rates would change for all three weeks, just the one they said. I will never recommend or use this company again.

First time renting a car, was told I had to get insurance to cover the car. With it being my first time I knew no better. Come to find out insurance is optional, but he lied and said I had to get it. Called the manager once I got home and she said he has been here for 19 years he has never said that to anyone... never renting from them again. Terrible experience.

I am from out of state and picked up a car from Pitt airport. I was never informed about buying a toll pass. Which I guess they sell right there. When traveling on the interstate in PA some booths are unmanned and thay have signs that tell you to keep moving, dont stop. No one there to help you. When I got home from my trip I get a bill in the mail for $10.00 in toll booth fees. No problem. I can pay that. BUT NO!!! DOLLAR RENTAL ADDS ON $100.00 IN PROCESSING FEES. WHAT A SCAM! SHAME ON YOU DOLLAR RENT A CAR FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OUT OF STATE CUSTOMERS.

This is the first time I have ever written a review in my life, however my experience with dollar rent was was so negative it has inspired me to try something new in life. When I booked my car I quoted a price via confirmation email. When I picked up my car I was told it would be the same price. Then when I turned in my car I was charged an additional $120 dollars. I brought this up with attendant at check in he said it out of his ability to do anything and I needed to call in. Ok.So I call the dollar line. After navigating their complex call in system I get to talk to someone who tell me she can help me and puts me back on hold to talk to the person that can. We go through the facts and the end result was too bad according to us the price is $120 more than we said it was gonna be. No you cant talk to anyone else. According to this person I talked to there is actually no one else that works in dollar customer service. Just her.The moral of the story is dollar is terrible company with zero morals or business integrity. Under no circumstances would I recommend anyone doing business with them for any reason.

Good service and a great car at a very reasonable rate. We were in our car within a few minutes. Returning the vehicle was fast and easy. We were on our way to board our flight home within a couple of minutes. I will definitely rent from Dollar again.

Absolutely awful experience. I was quoted a rate with my AAA membership (several weeks in advance) and they told me that I had to pay $200 more than what was quoted. Even the manager got involved and told me that the Customer Service department that I called in to make the reservation would do anything to lie to me to book the car with their service, then they turn around and nail me once I get there to pick up the car -- even admitting it was a tactic that they frequently used to book more cars. Additionally, against AAA agreements, he tried to charge me an under age fee (which the customer advocate I booked with specifically mentioned I would not be charged for), then tried to hit me with another fee for requesting a 4WD vehicle (another promise which was not met). He did little to nothing to assist and make it right with me, and I tried calling the corporate phone number where I booked the car to reach a manager in charge of customer service; they hung up several times. After all is set and done, I will be sending letters to the Pittsburgh International Airport, the Better Business Bureau, the American Rental Car Association, and AAAs Corporate Offices, and will be filing a consumer complaint to the Federal Trade Commission for bait and switch. This company could not be a truer example of an unethical organization after my experience. Treating customers like this is not only scary, especially when they are vulnerable, but this was an absolute cash grab. Its not hard to keep your promises, especially when it comes to CONTRACTED RATES WITH AAA!

Im extremely disappointed with the service my husband and I received. We booked a rental to go on our vacation. When my husband went to check in and pick up the rental, the magnetic strip on his credit card would not swipe . When he asked if the rep could type in the numbers since it wasnt swiping, she said no, she could not type in the credit card numbers and indicated that if the card cannot swipe then we could not get the rental. He then asked if he could just use his debit card and she indicated that since his debit card has the chip they do not accept the chip. We were at the airport for about 45 minutes trying to handle the situation. My husband even called customer service to verify where its indicated that the card can only be swiped. He was hung up on, and still did not have the issue resolved. Because we were picking up on a Sunday at 12 noon, we were not able to go to another car rental company becuase they were closed by the time we left the airport. My husband even asked one other rental company, Budget, at the airport and they said that they would not accept his card either. Due to all of this, were lost an entire day from our family vacation because we had to wait for the rental car companies to open the next day, and make sure there were vehicles available. We were finally able to get a rental through enterprise who had no problem typing in the numbers for my husbands credit card. I ended up calling the Dollar rental group customer service to file a complaint. I was then advised that I needed to send in an email. I sent the email and was advised that unfortunately nothing could be done, but my feedback was appreciated and forwarded to management. Im extremely saddened and disappointed by the fact that my family lost out on an entire day of our vacation due to some policy no one seems to be able to advise actually exists. We looked through the rental information and found nothing. I also requested to have someone call me, and instead was sent an email. I again requested a call, and received no response. This was the first time we booked with Dollar rental group, and have had a terrible experience.

I reserved a compact car and received a minivan as the attendant indicated that all compacts were reserved (even though I had a reservation for a compact booked over a week ago). When asked if I could have a smaller car, he said he could upgrade me to a midsize sedan which would be an additional $10 per day. When I respectfully declined and said Ill keep the minivan, he made a comment on my watch saying, Wow, thats a really nice watch. With its timing, I think this was a direct jab at me to suggest I had the money to pay for an upgrade; an upgrade that I shouldnt have had to make because they did not have the car I reserved. It was patronizing and unprofessional. Dollar will not receive my business in the future.

Unfortunately, I recently had to fly into Pittsburgh for a funeral. I made a reservation with Dollar Car Rental for the time I had to be in town. The agreed upon charge was supposed​ to be $204. However, I was completely taken advantage of. As I stated I was in town for a funeral so admittedly, I wasnt in the best frame of mind. I relied on the counter agent to do his job. Instead he took advantage of me. He simply said sign here and initial here. Unfortunately, I did. It was the furthest thing from my mind to ask about the gas policy. Anytime Ive ever rented a car, the counter agent has asked questions and explained the policy about bringing​ it back full or not. Again, I wasnt thinking clearly and relied on the counter agent to do his job. He did not. I barely used a quarter of a tank ​of gas, if that. It didnt hit me until I pulled into the garage to return the car, when the agent in the garage said, Did you remember to get a gas receipt when you filled up? In shock I replied no and proceeded​ to explain that the gas policy was never explained to me. She gave me a sad look and handed me a receipt. After I got situated at my gate, I realized why I got the sad look. I was charged an additional $45 for less than a quarter tank of gas!!! Upon my return home I called the ticket counter and then the toll free number, both to no avail. A supervisor got on the phone and told me since I signed the agreement there was nothing they would do for me. I dont know anyone who rents a car and actually reads the novel length agreement. The average person relies on the counter agent for an explanation of terms. In a vulnerable state, I was denied that consideration and fully taken advantage. There is absolutely NO integrity with Dollar and Im obviously very disappointed in how the whole thing was handled, from start to finish. Now, Im really sorry ​I didnt complain about the foul smell in the car!

Pittsburgh airport location was my most recent rental with dollar.ive been a dollar express member for 8 years. I did the lock low and go., which I believe is a compact to full size. The rep at counter kept trying to get me to “upgrade” to a full size. I said no, and received an Hyundai Accent. I was okay with it, it’s small, but what I signed up for. I returned the car just before 5am. No agents were at the airport yet. I left the car in the return line, noted the miles and fuel on my contract, and return the contract to the white return box on the counter. Two days later I get a call from vehicle recovery. People at the counter never closed out my contract.

I use this rental car service every time I fly into Pittsburgh, which is a few times a year. They never try to upcharge me on extra coverage I dont need, they are quick and I am in and out. I always have a new clean car to drive. They are very reasonably priced comparatively.

Made reservations online. Pick up and drop off went smooth at Pittsburgh International Airport. The car was smurf like but 80 mpg and $105 a week Im not gonna complain. I will use them for all my rentals!

I rented a car from here twice weeks apart and got my deposit back from the second time but still didn’t receive my deposit from the first time after they took 2. Deposits because I extended it but here weeks later I still don’t got my 408 for the first deposit. And no one is helpful with this they say go back to office and the office say call them

I paid for a full size car, was down graded to a mid size car and received no fee credit. The car was not cleaned very well as the back seat had some colorful crispy stains and wreaked of some combination of vomit & smoke. It was the most disgusting rental I have ever had and receiving a smaller car than I requested with no compensation returned to me just topped off one of the most unpleasant weeks I have had.

I dont care about the admin fee for tolls. I think its valid even though its a bit excessive. I do care about double dipping. I called PA and created an E-Z pass account and PA sent me an invoice for the tolls. Then Dollar still charged me for the tolls and fees. Dollar is double dipping on tolls.

Car was in good condition with a few minor dings which they acknowledged. Very aggressive attempts to upsell can be somewhat annoying. There was a small line to check in but no line at all when car returned. Shuttle was prompt both ways.

Very disappointing experience. Due in part to my own fault I could not find a gas station in the area around the airport. So I went to the rental place at the airport and told the attendant and offered to go back out. He told me not to worry that the price they charged had a small fee but the price would be reasonable. The next day I was shocked to see they charge $10 a gallon. I was also surprised to see a $50 upgrade charge when I had never asked for an upgrade. When I tried to complain about the gas they simply told me to refer to my contract. While I am sure this is true the employees need to be better trained because I am not going to talk to an employee and then say I appreciate your advice but let me refer to my contract incase you are lying to me I get car rental places charge extra for gas but this (again Im part to blame) is ridiculous.

This is a full walk through of my experience so you can understand how good it could have been and then how bad it ended up. I arrived at the counter to a very nice guy. However, he couldnt get his passwords to work. The result was waiting 20 minutes for this. No problem yet, I wasnt in a huge hurry. He said he couldnt get in to the system and went and got a colleague (Troy) so that I could be helped. He literally told his colleague can you take over for me, this guy has been waiting 20 minutes. He logs in and starts going through the process. I ask him how hes doing he says good. No response. A few minutes later gets my information. Then asks what coverage I want, not if I wanted coverage. I declined, but highlight this for people not as experienced with renting cars (you DO NOT need this, dont feel pressured by the counter representative) I respectfully ask is there any way I could get an upgrade in the vehicle for the wait? (mind you, I had the most basic rental choice, so upgrading would have been very minimal - my rental doesnt have cruise control OR a tachometer?!?!) All he responded with was the word No. I said oh, not even like one step up? Again, No. At this point I was frustrated and said thats an interesting way of handling this. Troy responds I dont know what intereresting about it. I wasnt here for what happened (what?!?!) Heres the problem! You were asked by your colleague to step in BECAUSE I had to wait on the companys error, and now you cant accommodate me because you werent there - am I a liar?! He handed me the keys and said have a nice day.To sum it up- This location needs some serious training on customer service. I never stepped out of line or raised my voice and I was treated like I was lying about my reason in asking for a simple upgrade.- My car is the worst rental car Ive ever had. No cruise control, no tachometer (rpm gauge).- I booked 2 cars online (through the citi bank portal) in 2 different cities. In Tampa, I used Hertz (always incredible service by the way no matter the location) and Dollar in Pittsburgh. Both rentals had my age plugged in to the system. Arrived at Hertz, got my car keys no problem. At Dollar, was charged an additional $27 per day for being a young driver!!! Was never stated they would charge that on top of my reservation even after I put my age in online anyway. Ridiculous. Its a false price because Hertz had the fee included already and it wouldve been cheaper with Hertz- This experience has been THE WORST OF ALL TIME REGARDING RENTAL CARS. Please go to Hertz. Its worth it every single time. Service is great and so are the cars. Please dont let Dollar bully you around and imply that you are a liar. Youre a customer of their business, you shouldnt be treated like this.

Not a good experience. I booked a mid size car thru hotwire. I talked to a person at hotwire and she promised a corolla and paid $78 for two days but when I reached Pittsburgh airport the story at dollar car rental was different. They said its compact or bigger and I got a compact car for a price of mid size car. The counter lady at the airport was very rude and not helpful and said that I booked through 3rd party and she was not responsible for that. Both dollar and hotwire work together to cheat customers. No more hotwire and no more dollar rental car. Not only for me but for all my friends and family.
