I found the instructor, apparently a ni dan, rude and not bothering to correct the technique of his young beginning students. I had stopped in on a courtesy call. I have been a student since 1960, beginning in Okinawa under Tatsuo Shimabuku.I waited patiently with seats where several parents were waiting. After the class was over and parents gone or leaving. I tried to politely introduce myself, with shoes off and bowing. He rudely ordered me off the floor (where many parents had just walked on in their shoes). I attempted to introduce myself as a student of martial arts. He rudely told me to get off his floor with a gesture to leave.I am 80 years old, but still in good shape. As a young man I would have probably returned the insultbut instead just shrugged and left.Out of curiosity I tried to find out about Shotokan....without success. Anyone know if it is a genuine style?
