I am torn on my review. The training was really good, but customer service and billing sucks. It took 4-5 cancellation requests and almost 2 full months before it was actually canceled. No refund has been given for charge that came 4 weeks to the day after my initial cancellation request and no messages returned.
I have been training here for about a year now. The instruction is great, and the atmosphere is always encouraging and fun. If youre ready to be pushed beyond what you think you can do, this is the place. It really is like a family.
BEWARE shady billing Department! I have been trying to cancel for the past two weeks. Ive left emails, called several times, left messages. They always say theyll call me back. After the 4th time I realized this is not the case. Since they never helped me I was charged for the next month. Im still in the process of figuring how to cancel.
Highest level of technical instruction around. The art and science of jiujitsu, off and on the mats. Great hours, classes every day. Family environment.
I have trained at about 50 bjj schools over 20 years all over the world. This is top 5 on my list for sure.
Scheduled a first class through their website four days ago, was really looking forward to it and invited my buddy to sign up with me. They texted me a couple hours beforehand and cancelled due to a “scheduling error.” Glad I found out how they do business before getting sucked in!
Friendly, open, inviting place to train. Coach Ty and Coach James were very welcoming to me as an out of state visitor and I appreciated it very much.
Their advertising choice alone shows these people are incompetent, even 1 star is too high
Have been going here for 2 months now and absolutely love it. Ultimately wanted to get back in shape and this has been perfect. Coaches are all great at teaching new skills and are super easy going. Would 100% recommend checking it out!
I have been attending classes at Aces Jiu Jitsu Club for a month. If you feel hesitant to work on your physical health with so many gyms being closed, you can feel at peace here. The staff ensures that my safety, and the safety of others, is the highest priority during the pandemic. Aces requires masks, temperature checks, and reading off the list of Covid symptoms before you are allowed to enter the building. Jui Jitsu has helped me lose weight, build strength, think creatively and have fun (even with the doom and gloom of 2020). Shout out to Coach Ty and Coach James!
First i have so much good things to say about Aces. I currently train out of the pflugerville location. Words cannot explain how happy i am i love training here. This is the best academy Ive trained in. I been training MMA & Brazilian Brazilian jiu jitsu full-time and consistently for about 5 months now all of the coachs are awesome & we train in a family environment. After visiting numerous gyms and switching over from another gym because there schedule did not work out for me. And i love the open availability schedule aces provides and the coachs are great and patient. I can learn from every coach we have & aces has truly made me a better version of myself and they truly care about the students & no matter what youre goals are you will accomplish them here at Aces. I been in martial arts the majority of my life and i truly fond a second family and my home at aces couldnt imagine myself training anywhere else.
Ive called Aces home for my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai training since 2018. Before making the commitment to join, I shopped around and looked at a couple of other places in town. Ace’s membership fees were in line, sometimes cheaper, with other facilities offering the same package. I have always felt that I’ve been dealt with honestly and that the staff truly takes an interest in me and my success. The friendly staff always make me feel welcome and the thorough curriculum has helped me make great improvements in my training. I have trained at several high-quality places but not one with such a dedication to excellence and personal development. There’s a reason why they have such a winning team and I’ve taken those lessons into other areas of my life as well.As a competitor I got extra attention and support from my coaches. They helped me create a game plan for success and actively supported me while I was at competition. I really cannot recommend a better place for you if you decide to begin your martial arts training here. See you on the mats.
So a summary of experiences:Cons: def the sales pitch and fee structure for tiny peoplePro: they worked with my family to try and make it work and were VERY up front about cancellation and how the pay system workedPro: they have gone above and beyond to teach my 4 year old to protect their space. They are learning real skills and focus on getting out the extra energy not sitting you on the side. I highly recommend Coach Ty and Coach James.
In an environment like Austin, where you have so many amazing Jiu-Jitsu options, it makes sense a place like Aces would exist. Aces is a terrible place. They basically scam you into thinking its a legit gym, but once you realize its cliquish and not a top tier gym and leave they will still keep billing you. Do not waste your time or money when you have so many better other places nearby.
It was amazing. A lot of fun, great people and burning calories.
Didnt even get a chance to experience the sales pitch everyone is talking about. I setup an appointment online a few days prior for a private 1 on 1 trial class. I waited half an hour thinking they were probably late but turns out they didnt show up at all. Waste of time.I called later to see if they were open. A girl answered and I told her I had an appointment but nobody came. There wasnt a sorry or anything. Just that their hours arent open at that time like it was my mistake. How are you going to have a website that schedules appointments but not follow through with them? I got countless emails making sure I was supposed to be there 5 minutes early. A bit ironic.
I dont have any experience in MMA and wanted to check out a class or 2. I was targeted by an IG ad saying 3 months free, but I walked in knowing that this was highly unlikely. Please have an expectation that this is a one time, one-on-one class with a coach that is about 30-45 min of work and the rest is discussion, observation, etc.Coach Ty did a very good job giving me a mini tour of the facility, laying down a educative foundation of what jiu jitsu is and explaining club etiquette. He also was very patient and taught me some basics including guard and arm bar. Ultimately, I decided against the gym because of the longterm commitment and price associated. I already go to a gym and play recreational soccer so those are budget priorities for me.They did a great job of inspiring me to learn more about self defense and hope to revisit this opportunity in the near future.Pros: Professional, respectful, seemingly lots of experienced coaches/students, a variety of students from new to experienced, and location (to me).Cons: They wouldnt disclose pricing until I was there and went to a class. Felt a little pressured to sign up on the spot, but was respectful when I chose to think on it.
Great Gym, Great Coaches and Great Training partners. I recently moved to Austin and decided to start taking BJJ classes. After researching and checking out a few different gyms in the Austin area, I decided to go with Aces because they had the best pricing, more classes available and everyone was very helpful and patient. Ive been training over a month now and I am very happy with my decision. If you looking for a new club to join I highly recommend Aces.
Ive been coming To a Aces Clubs,On and off since the year of 2018. .I love each and every staff member also known as coaches There is times Ive been having trouble in my personal life I had to take 4 or 5 months off but they always welcome me back like I have never left before I love the atshompher. We love to help each other to become a better person when walk into Those doors were just not friends but we are family in the community. One reason why i do come back i usually have to start back at one of my lowest level that is fine with me because i know i will get back to where i left soon. They will work with you. At your own pace. You got to reliaze it is mental in your mind also. I love this place its my home away from home. I just want to say thank you to all of the coaches and to the professor let me be back on the mat this year. I have missed yall so very muchIllI apprecaited everyone of yall. Thank uLove always JJ Jumper
My step dad has been coming here for a while now and brought me in to try a class w him and it was really cool! Great workout, amazing instructors and everyone is so welcoming and friendly. 10/10 recommend them!
Love the coaches at Aces! The classes are fantastic and fun. I always leave feeling stronger and more confident in myself and my self-defense. When I struggle or have questions, the coaches will help me out one-on-one because they and the professor really care about your personal growth! A great, safe environment for anyone that wants to train!
Ive been coming here for about a month and love it. Everyone has been very positive and helpful.I came in today, and because it was a rainy, stormy day, I was the only one. Coach Ty didnt hesitate and gave me a private lesson for an hour. It really helped me understand what I was doing wrong and how to improve. He even filmed a video on my phone to show my wife how to use Thai pads before I left. The other members also very friendly and will help explain what youre doing wrong during drills. As a total beginner, I never felt like they were annoyed or unhappy to pair up with me. Even when I had to take constant breaks because of my poor endurance (and I do it a lot, believe me).And a big thank you to Coach James, too. I cant recommend this club enough!
Aces Jiu Jitsu Club is a great place to learn. The environment is friendly and the staff and coaches are excellent. They all enjoy teaching the art, which makes it easy to come back time and time again. I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning something new or getting in some exercise when the gym becomes tired and boring. This is definitely a fun and exciting way to keep active.
I train Jiu Jitsu at my home gym and I came to Austin for the week because of a job assignment. I searched the web for a Jiu Jitsu studio in Austin and I found Aces. I called Coach Ty and hes showed great interest in meeting me, and wanting to teach me, knowing that I was only going to be in town a few days. When I came in, what I found was a family. Coach Ty and Coach Gregory take great care in teaching you the art. They walked through the technique and make sure you understand it. If youre into kickboxing, Coach Tim will give you a great workout and teach you the fundamentals of striking. If youre looking for a gym to train at in Austin, Aces will not disappoint you! If youve thought about Jiu Jitsu and you wanna know why, just come in and see Ty!
Hooked up with aces from a friend. Brought our daughter here to learn self defense for herself and it was great. The coaches are great and really take the time to teach and help the kids. Sometimes kids are hard listeners but not once did I ever see the coaches get fustrated with them. I would recommend this place for kids any day of the week. Especially girls my daughter enjoys it.
I was in Austin for the week and needed a place to get in a work out but after calling several gyms in the area most were reluctant to accept anyone below brown belt. After speaking with Diana over the phone I decided to attend the 12 noon class. Everyone at Aces was open and welcoming. Coach Ty put us though some great drilling and roll sessions. I will definitely be back at Aces when ever I am in Austin.
The community and family vibe at this club makes me want to keep coming back week after week. It can be intimidating to learn something new so I am grateful all of the members and staff are so welcoming and helpful! Since becoming a member, Ive had a wonderful experience! Im so excited for the Pflugerville location because I will have yet another awesome place to train. If you are at all interested in self-empowerment, self-defense, fitness,or just meeting awesome people, check out Aces Jiu Jitsu Club! It is absolutely the best place to train, grow, and thrive while learning the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I looked at 4 different gyms including aces when trying to find a home to train. I had a good feeling about them from the beginning, so signed yoo for classes there. 1 year in and Im happy I went with my gut. I can train 7 days a week (though I recommend a rest day somewhere in your training.) Expert level training, family atmosphere and classes, and plenty of good people to help push you. Best club in Austin.
Aces is definitely what Ive been looking for in Austin, its easy to feel like youre at home even if its your first day. Unlike some other organizations, you dont get thrown into the sharks. It starts with minnows, then you work your way up to the sharks🙂 Make sure you say hi to Kat on your way in, shes the best! Or Miguel, hes pretty cool too 👌🏽
Total rip-off.I lost $600! The free trial sign on the door was BS. I got a free class that was a history lesson and a few how-tos and then a very aggressive sales session.I attended only 1 class, did not like it at all, got the run around from staff about my uniform and why I didnt get a free trial. They cant accept that not everyone is going to love their classes, but they didnt give me a chance to try one first without paying!Heck, they still advertise a free 30-day trial online (I took screenshots) and their 3 free months offer isnt at all what it seems but they gloss over that during the sales pitch.Obsessed with $$$ and growing their company. Thats all they brag about...fastest growing. At what cost? They dont care that I lost $600 at all.I filed a complaint with the BBB.Im not the first one, apparently. I hope they change their unethical business practices.
Ive had a pleasure of being an Ace for about two months during my trip to Austin (I live and train BJJ outside of Austin normally). Despite the fact that I train elsewhere, I was warmly welcomed by the coaches and the people training there. The quality of Jiu-Jitsu at Aces is very high, the coaches focus on details (that actually make a huge difference), are very patient, and make sure you understand and execute the techniques correctly. The atmosphere at the gym is very friendly and encouraging. It was a great experience, and Im very happy that I found Aces Jiu-Jitsu Club! Definitely do recommend this place to people of all backgrounds and experiences!
Aces Jiu Jitsu is more then a martial arts gym, it is a community. A community that supports you through your journey not only through the learning of the art but through every aspect of life. Coach Mikal and Coach Ty enthusiasm is contagious and they will go the extra mile to support those around them as well as the community. If you are looking to TRULY better yourself in self-defense and self-discipline, surround yourself with those that will make you better at Aces. The lessons are formatted to allow each person to mould the techniques to suit their style and ability. A mixture of levels of ability and experience provide a synergy that encourages learning with a no pressure atmosphere. From novice to advanced all will find a place here. Veterans, this club is a must!!
After reading a few of these reviews I think that these guys are shady at best. Their whole motive to lure people in is just to get their money. I went in there one time for a free class back in the summer of 2015. I trained my free class with some instructor there who I believe that his name was Tony.I had asked him what he did for a living and he told me that teaching at Aces was what he did. His instruction was great but during our class he kept asking me to give him a hug, in which I thought that was pretty weird. After that he had led me into the office to try to get me to sign up at the school and he was really trying to hurry me to sign up. I told him that I was looking into another school to train at the same time but it was a nicer way of me saying that I wasnt going to sign up there at Aces because I had felt that the school was way too expensive. If I remember correctly the monthly fee was like 400 to 600 dollars or something plus like a 300 dollar deposit. No way was I training at this place.Anyhow like reading some of these reviews, I have to agree that the school is so expensive because this is what these guys do for a living. In my opinion teaching martial arts or hand to hand or something like this should only be a side job for people.
This place is awesome! It’s great for self defense and you meet some amazing people. I’m way more confident in my abilities and learn something new every day.
If youre looking for quality instruction and flexibility of schedule this is the place! Ive been to various gyms and have had many great coaches but this is by far the best in terms of quality instruction and lots of opportunities during the day to train. Theres a great family atmosphere too
I absolutely love this places.. The coaches are amazing. Everyone here is very welcoming and friendly.. There are no egos or pretentiousness here.. Great atmosphere to learn Jiu Jitsu. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested..
Had a great time at the knife defense seminar! Really great concepts by really great instructors. The pace was good and the teaching was very practice and digestible. And the coaches were very open to questions from the attendees. Highly recommend checking out Aces Jiu Jitsu and seminars!
These guys are the best. They were at the Dallas open this weekend and coached me out of nowhere. It helped push me harder then I could have gone on my own. I would highly recommend this place they will support you and help you achieve your goals!
I am brand new to any sort of martial arts and am in my first few days at ACES. I am already feeling more self-confident. All of the coaches have been incredibly motivating, encouraging and patient. I was very nervous coming into this and already feel at ease and cared for as an individual. I feel a strong sense of a community and the applied concept of no man left behind. Shed any anxieties you may have of tying or failing at something new. This is how we grow. Thanks for helping me remember that ACES.
I was really disappointed with Aces Jiu Jitsu Club. Their 30 minute free lesson turned into a10 minute lesson followed by 60 minutes of high pressure sales. I cant believe that they were trying to convince me that they are the Best place in Austin for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If you have any experience with martial arts academies, you can easily recognize that this place is just in it for the money. They have a large down payment, a 12-month commitment up front, and a large buy-out clause in the contract. There are some many great Brazilian Jiu Jitsu places in close proximity to this place, so you would be wise to check some other places out. Run far away from Aces Jiu Jitsu Club.
My experience here was awful... when we went to the trial class there was a lot of pressure from them on getting me sign an agreement. I can’t forget to say that for them, “taking health goals seriously” means make you vomit in every class because it’s way too hard. The worst part of it is that after they make you waste your money by making your kids vomit in every class, they’ll try to make you feel like a bad parent for not “supporting” your kids on getting them sick in every class. THIS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. The first two classes were fine... the last months were a NIGHTMARE.There are other Jiu-Jitsu places with better reviews... just run away from this place.
I love being at Aces. The people are great. The best part is the family class. My kids and I can go to the same class. There are usually 3-4 adults that I can roll with in class while my kids roll with other kids. I dont know of any other BJJ places in the Austin area that do this. I always said I would start BJJ if I could go do a class at the same time as my kids. It is great.
The coaches are fantastic! They are very passionate about teaching others, and patient with the students. You learn not only techniques, but also how to apply them in competitions and real life situations. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get in brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Coach Mikal has created an excellent learning environment. I have never met anyone who is more enthusiastic about what they teach than he is. He is personally interested in each individual students progress. When you start training here, you are not just a member of the club, but a member of the family. Anyone who is interested in starting a program should try out this one.
I came to Aces on a recommendation from a friend as I was looking for a new hobby to pursue while getting fit. After getting shown around by coach Ty and talking to a few other regulars, I realized that this place has a great community feel. They have the skills and expertise to help everyone from rookies such as myself to veterans looking to compete against the best competitions.I highly recommend this place and look forward to learning more about Jiu Jitsu.
Worst Mistake Ive Ever Made! I would NOT recommend aces to Anyone! Shady practices with billing and the contract. Ok, so you decide to try out the 1 free class. They make an appointment and no class was offered it was a 1 on 1 training to pressure you into signing up. Drop $200 fee then $800 dollars or $150 a month - no big deal! oh BEWARE they will auto renew your contract even though they tell you it will end. Bury you in the initial paperwork and keep negotiating with you on prices. Paperwork looks like they scribbled and crossed things off. A huge mess because the coach decided to keep coming back with different quotes. Promises that are not fulfilled. Oh and were you confused on that paperwork? Initial everything so they cover their billing practices. Months later they will say Its in the contract! They are always busy and will email you receipts/bills instead. Not everyone will like the classes or coaches. After a month of ok classes and noticing a lot of gym drama. I absolutely didnt Not like the environment! Doesnt mean Im not dedicated or able to commit. I wholeheartedly wanted this gym to work for me. Not liking a place or feeling comfortable doesnt mean I should be screwed out of a lot of money! Just means this place isnt for me. How hard is it to have a good heart and a good business and let people go. Bad breakup- you pay to leave! even if you get NO services rendered. They talk down to you like they help you and after all they have done for you this is how you treat them by complaining! They will offer you other deals and try to get you to stay or go in and talk to them. Another tactic of getting you to pay more money. Oh i mean a tactic to show how they care. If they cared they wouldnt make you feel bullied. You should be grateful that they allowed you into their gym. If you want to leave. You obviously dont show any commitment or take training seriously like they do. Blame the clients, condescending way of talking to people. Only if they could have this experience. How would they feel? Probably screwed over and taken for a lot of cash! They have no problems saying its not me, its you.
Smart people working in very well-structured educational system that is both welcoming and values being able to prove what you know.I particularly like the head coachs focus on teaching concepts alongside the techniques to accelerate good application, and the pride he derives from empowering his students to solve problems outside the bounds of the specific techniques theyve learned.
Aces is an awesome place! The laid back atmosphere really makes it easy to come in and train your hardest. I intend to be in here as much as possible, if you have reservations about training, just come in to a class and check it out! You will not regret it!
Ive been going there for over a month and I love it best Decision I ever made. Great staff and cool people not to mention best pricing for bjj I have ever come across. Im excited to go to every class and learn.
My 6 year old joined Aces and we couldnt be happier. She loves going to class and learning new things and she gets the right mixture of support and discipline to keep her focused and looking forward to the next thing. We both love the positive energy and community here.
If you are serious about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu then this is the place to train. They have a welcoming atmosphere, the teachers are extremely helpful. If you need help understanding a move then they are willing to repeat multiple times. Also the club members are some of the nicest people around.
Only been here a couple of weeks, but the atmosphere is great for learning! The coaches really want you to grow and tech your personal goals. Cant wait to see how far Ive come in a couple of months.
My first impression of this club was a family-friendly place with clean facilities, but I was quickly impressed by the competitive edge this club also provides its members. Mikal emphasizes good technique and tactical thinking, but hes also incredibly kind, friendly and provides a supportive environment for all levels and personal goals. The other coaches have a similar approach for motivating and teaching, so I find between the drilling and the free rolling, Im continuing to step up my game with each session.Very happy to have joined the Aces family!
Worst Mistake Ive Ever Made!!!! I wouldnt recommend aces to Anyone. Please READ READ READ everything you sign and always get proof of any receipts! My daughter attended to help improve various things some being weight and her shyness yes Ace I know that.1: First day we attended the instructor did a one on one which seemed to be cool but also talked the majority of the time regarding the history of how jiu jitsu got its name and so fourth. At the end alot of pressuring to sign up which I get its a business. Yall got me!! Lol. Signed her up payed the enrollment fee. They didnt have no uniforms or whatever those scrub looking things are called no offense sorry I just dont know the name. Well to the point they didnt have her size so they had to order since we wanted a color they did not have. NEVER RECIVED and I payed for it.2nd: after about a couple classes my daughter just didnt like it anymore and I would force her to go since I thought it would do her well. But, some kids just like what they like and she did not like it after a couple classes. Yes she enjoyed the first day but after did not3rd: after about a month or so of my daughter not wanting to attend I called and asked how I could cancel. Emailed to cancel and reason why as instructed payed the cancellation fee in two payents.5/15/19 & 6/1/19. Decided to let the Uniform thing go which was never given to us and was payed for already. After months of the last payment for cancellation today 10/16/19 they are charging me a month of $135. Emailed the help desk and waiting for a reply/excuse. Asked for immediate reimbursement. They STOLE from my bank account. Contract being cancelled not freezing it definitely cancelled months later Stealing. This is scetchy and im actually pretty frightened they have my bank account info now. Probably thinking they will tell me there was a glitch like what they have told the rest of these ppl in reviews or waiting to see how much weeks/months it will take because of the system being down and so fourth like another person wrote. Waiting to here if I personally borrowed money from someone there to save my home (which I read from the one reviewer that put a 1 star and his experience then the company responded back saying he had asked for money) sorry didnt barrow any money. Waiting to hear that I coddle my child to much and I should stop because I didnt want to force her to go anymore. Hopeing it doesnt take 4+ calls like some of the reviews as well. Its funny how they took but never put. Yall are sneaky. Luckily I have emails with aces and payments made from my bank of the amount and on the dates listed with aces on cancellation as agreed.P.S. I Would Like The Uniform Money That I Never Received and Payed For Refunded Back To Me While Your At It.Update: 10/17 I have called the aces office and they said to wait for a call back its been a couple hrs no call yet. Ive also called the i guess main office and asked to speak to Mike the lady on the phone said they dont come in nor he till noon. Waiting to hear back from them as well. Ive emailed them last night as well no reply yet. followed up with an email a couple min ago. Please guys follow me into this journey of trying to collect my money back that they Stole.Day 2: no call no email told by several ppl I would get a call back.Reported fraud/stolen funds to my bank and froze any future deductions from these scammers.
I usually come to the burnet location, but my work moved near downtown. The downtown location was great! It had a lot of East side character. It felt open to the city and made rolls really fun. I highly suggest ACES!!!
I really enjoy the learning environment here at Aces and their times for classes are designed to meet the needs of a busy professional with hectic work schedules. I feel like I get more for my money here than paying less at any other place. Definitely give it a try.
I Love Aces and all the coaches!! To join Aces is more than joining a gym, its like joining a family that actually cares for the safety of the community and teaches us how to keep our space safe. The workouts dont even feel like work, its just so much fun!!
Aces has been a great club to train at. I am a coach myself, and i can say from experience they know their stuff. i would recommend aces to anyone who wants to learn a great self defense.
Hey Ladies,I came to Aces with social awkwardness in one hand and no prior knowledge of Jiu Jitsu in the other. That combination was basically a fumbling, awkward petite girl with no confidence in anything I was doing. After just a couple months at Aces, I have gained more than just Jiu Jitsu skills! The crowd at Aces is awesome, friendly, and (best of all!) nerdy. They do everything to make sure their members are always comfortable, and even help each other outside of the club. I can honestly say that my experience here has been exceptional, and if there are any women out there in the Greater Austin area that are looking for a kick-ass gym, please consider and visit the awesome team at Aces Jiu Jitsu Club!
Best BJJ classes! Family oriented, my whole family goes for mind and body exercise. The coaches are attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. All the people work together and for these reasons, I would always recommend ACES to anyone, women, men, kids!
Amazing area to train at, its a family oriented gym and everyone you train with helps you out also. Coach Ty is very knowledgable and is willing to help you reach your goal in training.
Mikal is one of the most inspiring people I know. I strongly recommend his business.
I called for information on childrens classes and rates. They can tell me everything about the class by phone except the price. Prices are only discussed in-person. Weak marketing tactic..
Aces has provided me with the drive to set crazy high goals with the steps to get there as well. Super group oriented and friendly. Thanks Mikal and coaches for the awesome knowledge you provide!
Wonderful gym coach Ty was my instructor today these guys take good care of you! No egos! Clean gym! HOT shower OSSSSSSS
Really great BJJ instructors that try to explain technique in laymans terms. The management worked with me when I told them I am based from a different city and I only worked in Austin few days a week. Highly recommended.
I absolutely love Aces! The coaches and members have been nothing but supportive and kind since my first day. The head coach, Mikal is an absolute fount of jiu Jitsu knowledge and an amazing teacher. You are not just taught how to do submissions, you are taught how and why they work. For me, this has been amazing in helping me process all of the new information. Besides being an amazing workout and helping you to lose weight, which it will, it is a lot of fun! There are not many opportunities out there to stand on your head while trying to choke someone with your legs. :)
Ive been a member of Aces Jiu-jitsu Club for a year and a half, and I absolutely love it! The coaches, staff and students are all very welcoming and friendly, and I couldnt ask for a better environment to train in. I joined the club in order to stay active and fit, and Im getting that, and a whole lot more. I feel better and healthier than I have in a long time, and the self defense techniques Im learning are helping me to feel safer all around. As a woman over 50, I highly recommend Aces Jiu-jitsu Club, whether youre looking for self defense or you just want to stay fit or get in shape. I love it here!
Couldnt ask for a better experience for my 10 year old son. We had followed Coach Mikal from another school, his instruction is that awesome. He helped coach my son to win 2 gold and 1 silver medal. Love the leadership he provides and the training he teaches.
The people here are great. They work really well with the kids.
Was in town for a work conference and the coaches were nice enough to let me train with them. I got my ass kicked. These guys really know their stuff and I would recommend this gym to anyone in the area.
Hands down, this is the absolute best training you will find in all of Austin. I first went to Aces not knowing a thing about Jiu Jitsu, and in my time there, Ive turned into an absolute beast with the help of all the staff and members. Everyone is ridiculously nice and friendly. Coach Mikal is the best teacher Ive ever encountered and has an extensive knowledge of Martial Arts. Im 57, 157 pounds, and trust me, no one can mess with me after what Ive learned at this club. If you want to do something life changing that will forever benefit you and change you for the better, go to Aces! Oh, and Im a woman, so ladies please dont be intimidated, there is plenty of us there, and all the men are gentlemen.
Love this club, atmosphere and community. Great instruction for beginners and experts alike! Would definitely recommend to anyone considering training.
Avoid this money grabbing scam like the plague
SHADY buisness tactics. You must read your conract carfully otherwise you will be spending a lot of money if you have to leave. I am no longer able to pay for a membership due to being a college student and not being able to get back to work until i get back from traing at fort Campbell. After informing them of this the are requiring that I pay $300 that I dont have. Its just sad that a martial arts institution is so incapable of understanding such issues.
Great club! Always leave feeling more confident in my abilities to defend myself and challenged to grow in personal goals outside the gym. Amazing community too!
Professional, clean facility with instructors that really are motivated to help you attain your goals. I took the free session and was impressed by the instructors Adrians demeanor and professionalism. He was friendly and kind. He went through the prices and how I can get to my goals. I decided I wanted to go all in and I am very excited to be apart of Aces. I tell you this I will be in Aces all the time for classes!woot! All of the instructors were extremely helpful to help me get started, Ty, Tim, Luke, and Adrian are all great! !!!!!!props to Aces! Thanks!!!-Rikka
Before attending Aces, I had never been to a commercially run martial arts place and was not sure what I was going to encounter. I was a bit apprehensive. I was surprised, the coaches are kind, courteous, and respectful. I currently study both BBJ and Muay Thia Kickboxing with my fifteen year old son at Aces. My boy and I have become even closer than ever because of this experience.I feel safe and surrounded by good and kind training partners. The coaches are the real deal! They are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and will break everything down to you. Their feedback on details is stunning. Prior to attending, I thought I was in decent shape by working out and running on my own. No, I was wrong. After eight months, I have lost over twenty pounds and reshaped by body. I feel like Aces is part of my family.
I broke my foot while training here (no fault of theirs). Froze my account while healing (required a doctors note), and then later found out I needed surgery. I went back up there with a new doctors note and cancelled my account, because I will likely never be able to train again.Six months later, a $300 dollar charge shows up on my account from Aces. I call them, and after a bunch of run around, they tell me that, not only will they not give me my $300 dollars back, but theyre going to charge me another $300 in 3 days if I dont cancel with them again. And guess what! $300 fee to cancel. Some of the coaches are really cool, but super predatory business practices. Im a single father now, and I cant afford to have these people just taking hundreds of dollars from me without my permission.Hard pass.
Came in for a drop-in class. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and I got some good 1-on-1 time with the coaching staff. Highly recommend if youre in the area, and you need a place to train!
Absolutely amazing club with even better coaches and students. Very welcoming environment where everyone is pushing eachother to do their best. Coaches are patient and willing to explain until everyone in the class is aware of whats going on and the students who have been training with AJJC are happy to help the new students along their way as well. Aces!
I have trained at other Jiu Jitsu places around Austin, College Station, and Houston and this place is the best hands down! Not only is Coach Mikal the best coach but he cares more about his students than any other coach I have known. You are not just another number to the coaching staff but they make you feel like family!
I joined Aces Pflugerville location a little over a month ago. Everyone is really easy going and make you feel welcome. With multiple class times and different coaches you really get a variety of techniques, styles and so much information. Great staff, great training partners, no attitudes or judgement. Every day I cant wait for my next training session!
Shady business practices! Be careful with them.
After 10 year of Tae Kwon Do I was looking for a place to expand my martial arts knowledge, Aces has been amazing! The staff is really welcoming and does a great job at easing you in and making you feel comfortable. If you are like me and looking to expand your martial art knowledge or have 0 experience and want to start Aces is the place to go!
Ive been attending Aces for about 2 months now and I love it! The staff as well as the people who train there are very nice and welcoming! I like to believe that were one big family; I would definitely recommend anyone wanting to get into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Mauy Tai to schedule a class here!
Ive been a member of Aces for around 6 months now and am really enjoying the experience. This is an environment where people who have no background in wrestling or martial arts can come and learn.Coach Abdullah is an awesome mentor both in Jiu Jitsu and in dealing with adversity. If you want to challenge yourself and learn to push yourself past what your limits, this is the place for you.
What a pleasure to be invited to roll at Aces Ju Jitsu Club. I cant say enough about the high level of instruction and the sense of community I felt while I was here. If you are in the Austin area (whether you live here or are travelling for business), please do yourself a favor and come by and roll. Youll thank yourself later.
At first I was super excited to start here, it sounded like everything I was looking for. I had gone to title boxing for about 2 years and wanted something more.Ps. I was reluctant on mentioning this to them because then sone would presume I thought I knew it all. Which I don’t and was very clear and modest about it all.Got a text that someone would be waiting to greet me, more like I’ll wait looking around for 5 min. Until the guy that was gonna greet me sitting down chatting finally realized I was there. The training was going fine, until the guy I was working with happen to elbow my foot exactly where there was no padding. (I was wearing shin guards). He was not wearing any protective gear cause they were using it in class. But it almost seemed like it did it on purpose. I could read a little anger and “that’s what you get mindset” in his eyes.I should’ve left right then and there. Getting hurt like that on the intro day...But I kept going. He also purposely made contact with my face prior to kicks. But I said, ok it’s a contact gym. But idk if that again was because of my previous experience ( which we did it spar there and I made that clear)Idk if that’s a thing that’s ok on the intro day.Not when he tried getting me to join. It was so rushed and aggressive. And I hadn’t even tried an actual class, I had gone for the 30 day trial, then he said that was over. Didn’t mention that on the phone. But I don’t want to sign up for something I don’t even know if I’ll like. If it was gonna be anything like the intro day, I didn’t want to be part of that. And then there’s the part where I keep getting spit on my face when he talked...now I know that’s not too controlable but still uncomfortable for me.
Stopped in here to train on friday while in town for a wedding. everyone welcomed woth open arms and i had a great training session. recommend the club to everyone!
Love the coaching here. Very patient with my son. Nice location, nice mat, very caring people.
I have a very bashful and cautious five year old. While we are still working on some confidence issues, this club has given him tools to defend himself. Coaches Ty and Luke have shown dedication to get him to participate and enjoy going above and beyond my expectations. If you arent sure what martial arts discipline to practice, jiu jitsu is it. If you arent sure where to practice, this is the place.
Great workouts and great self defense techniques! Much love to the Aces Jui Jitsu Family!
Amazing place to train! great community of people!
I space out a lot when instructors teach a move, then Im left confused come time to drill... definitely different here, theres never too much instruction and more advanced moves are broken down instead of taught all at once - that helps a lot!
I came from another gym after only being 4 months into my journey and was welcomed with open arms. Everyone here has a wealth of knowledge and is open to sharin it with anyone who is ready to work. More than that the spirit and family atmosphere at aces is exactly what someone looks for when finding a new gym. Miguel and cat are both the best people ever, office refrences on fleek.
Another Great meeting her at Aces.... Love Coach and Brian Johnson.. The detail I learned from the Nutrition class is hands down the Best of the Best.... Come give it a try.. Real family atmosphere from ppl who care.. Ken M>
If you have never done Jiu Jitsu, this is the best place to start. Professor Mikal is great teaching all the techniques.
