BEWARE!! This organization fails to protect first time buyers. They have a questionable applicant vetting system and have had multiple foreclosures. You are better off renting.

The Housing Land Trust of Sonoma County is an amazing organization! Dev and Cathy are so nice and extremely helpful. We qualified for a house in the Southgate subdivision 13 years ago when I was a first year teacher at an elementary school in Petaluma, and my husband was working in a public service job for the county. They made buying our first home easy and affordable. Living in a Housing Land Trust home completely changed our quality of life! Having an affordable house payment let us finally feel like we could make it here in Petaluma, and that we could continue working in our community service jobs even though they didnt pay very well. We have been raising our two children in a nice neighborhood with friendly neighbors who are also HLT families. We all really appreciate how lucky we were to be a part of this program, and I think it helped us build a friendlier, more welcoming community. Even 13 years after we joined the program, we still check in with the HLT staff and they completely remember our family, our childrens names, and ask what we have been up to. We are just so impressed with this organization! They have helped our family more than I can ever express, and I feel so happy to know they are helping so many other families out there too! I wish everyone could have this kind of help finding a home!

Told us we qualified and would get back to us in a couple days. Waited a week for a response and called again, left a message. Still nothing. Waited another three days and called again. Finally got a response and they then told us that they had made a mistake. If we as two teachers dont qualify for this then I dont know who does but that I can understand. Mistakes happen. Mainly disappointed that we had to follow up ourselves for closure and that we wouldnt have known otherwise. False hope.

Director is a phony. She knows what’s wrong with this program. I won’t even rub her nose in it.
