Great place and beautiful people
Prof Alex Aung is a great instructor and really cares for his students. He is patient, compassionate and has great communication skills. The school is very welcoming of people of all backgrounds. Highly recommend.
Common Ground Jiu Jitsu is a blast. Sally is cool and she was kind enough to invite me to get started. She also knows a ton and is a great person to look toward for motivation and guidance. Alex is very kind and smart. He has a fun vibe and his passion for BJJ spreads in the best possible way. The instruction is excellent and the atmosphere is upbeat. Class culture is helpful and friendly. There is plenty of patience when exploring new material as well as exciting challenge putting things into practice. This place rocks!
Common Ground Jiu Jitsu is a place where everyone who wants to grow, will grow. Why you should stop by and try it out: It is affordable, memberships are month to month, there is plenty of street parking, there is plenty of classes including kickboxing and kids bjj classes and it is in a great location for most people. Why you will stay: There is no ego in this gym. What you learn is taught to you in a simple and direct way that makes it simple for you to digest. It is completely pragmatic and the patience from the teachers and openness to clear up confusion makes it a place for you to naturally excel whether youre new to the art or a surgeon on the mats. More importantly, the values the instructors embody leaves you looking into yourself-happily so.Common Ground Jiu Jitsu is a place where you will be fortified and hone yourself- WHOEVER you may be.
I feel very lucky to have such a great gym right down the street and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get into martial arts or those with experience. Coach Alexs lesson plan is clearly presented and the class flows very efficiently. I began learning about Jiu Jitsu here six months ago but community has been together for years and the environment is very friendly and welcoming.
Coach Alex is a great instructor and the environment is friendly, welcoming for anyone and all levels. Whichever class you attend the technique is always sharp and part of a system so youll end up leaving a class having learned a whole series of techniques. Ive known Alex for years and it is always an honor to visit and train with everyone there.Hopefully I can get in there for a kickboxing class with Coach Joe soon. They look like fun!
Was a pleasure training there. The gym is beautiful, the people are great and super nice, and the instructor is fantastic. Highly recommended!
Awesome bjj school. The class schedule makes training after work a breeze. I love coach Alex and Coach Ivan, they break down techniques well for beginners like myself, and have a wealth of knowledge to teach the more experienced students.Classes are well paced and leave me exhausted by the end, I am able to get through the whole thing but am exhausted by the end.The environment is excellent, very supportive without letting anyone be too comfortable or stagnant.I look forward to ending my days at common ground.
Glad to Officially be onboard at Common Ground Jiu Jitsu. Much Love & Respect to Coach Alex, Sally and the whole Common Ground Community and Lineage!
This is a really great martial arts school. The school is quite inexpensive for seriously awe inspiring instruction from Alex and Sally. The skillset and knowledge base is staggering. As a new student I feel a lot of encouragement here. They teach Jiu Jitsu both as a self-defense, which I am most interested in, as well as a competitive sport (where rules apply!). Interestingly, the school has a very relaxed atmosphere and is totally different from the Tae Kwon Do school school I attended many years ago where there was a very strict Master and student relationship. Would highly recommend Common Ground!
Coach Alex is the best instructor I have ever had. He is very technical and knowledgeable about everything he teaches.
Alex Aung is an amazing, technical Black Belt coach under Shawn Williams. I was very fortunate to be able to learn under Professor Alex. He is kind, professional and truly cares about his students.
I love training with everyone here. Great place to learn some BJJ skills with good people and good vibes. The instructors strive to create an environment that makes it fun and safe to learn. If youve been training for a while or are just getting started, check this place out!Edit, Sept 2019: just updating to say I still love this place. Coach Alex is a great instructor - detail oriented and both he and manager Sally strive to create an enrivonment where everyone feels welcome and safe. Each class goes through several moves, but they all build off each other into a nice flow. Great place to learn BJJ.
I have been training with coach Alex for a several years now. His method of teaching is very technical and super detailed, which is helpful for someone like me who needs everything broken down into easier steps .There is no one I would rather to be training with👍🏽
Great place to train, Coach Alex is a superb teacher. Everyone is friendly and welcoming to those new to the sport or new to the school.
If you want to learn BJJ, this is the place to do it. Great people, great instructors, great environment. I can’t recommend it enough.
Great environment to grow both your persona and technical skills in Jiu jitsu. The curriculum is setup for all levels from beginners to experienced grapplers to continue the developement in their moves. The staff is very patient and helpful. I really recommend this Jiu jitsu academy if you have ever considered a new academy for Jiu jitsu.
