About a month and a half ago I found this apartment complex, very affordable and a beautiful set up. Very helpful, sweet, and kind staff as well. Between maintenance and the leasing office ladies I couldn’t be more happy.
I have lived here for five years and loved it. It was the best kept secret. Quiet neighborhood, but close to highway. In the past few months a new management company bought the apt complex and it has been a nightmare. Before the new management, I never had an issue with maintenance. Since the new management it takes FOREVER to get anything addressed. YOU have to call several times to follow up or your issue falls through the cracks. I asked for a call from the property manager and was told that they don’t SPEAK to TENANTS. So sad since TENANTS pay the rent. That tells me that they don’t care about TENANTS and I will be leaving here soon. Would not recommend this property!!!
In the 2 years I lived at oakleigh I had nothing but issues. On day 1, we had no hot water. Water issue #1We had a gray water leak that soaked through to our living room carpet (everyone’s nasty sink/shower water leaking for weeks before it was addressed).#2 A major flood that left me sick and took far to long to move us to a new unit (black mold growth) #3 moved into a new unit with a cracked sink that leaked and the maintenance man caulked the crack in the bowl instead of replacement. It still leaked and no one ever showed up to fix it, despite multiple calls. #4 roaches and mice are major issues, the exterminator finally showed up 3 days before I moved out. #5 final straw was in the new unit we discovered mold growth along the baseboards... turns out there is a foundation issue. To top all of this off, when the maintenance man came to check out the mold growth, I mentioned that my fire alarm had gone off for the first time that morning, he checked the furnace room and it turns out the furnace and water heater where vented incorrectly and causing a build up of carbon monoxide. The office literally could not care less that I could of been killed. As for this round of mold they wanted to rip out drywall, paint with kilz and then put it right back up, not fix the actual issue that is causing the water to seep in through my walls and cause mold (again). I was told I could be moved it a new unit (not ground floor because of all the water issues I had, and they rushed to rent it to someone else so they could rent it out at a higher price) I got out of my lease, cleaned the entire place, and now the management company hasn’t sent back our security deposit, even though at the walk through I was told it was immaculate and that I would be getting 100% of it back. No one in the office can give any answers, and AJH (management) is awful. You can’t get in contact with anyone who can actually solve issues. I would not recommend this to anyone, it will be one headache after another. Stay far away.EDIT- In addition to the frustrating management team- I also noticed today that a member of AJH has been posting 5 star reviews in an attempt to bring up the rating. Yitzchok Friedman- when you impersonate a resident at all of the locations AJH manages in baltimore, you should not also review the lawyer that you use for evictions and landlord services with the same account. It all viewable publicly. What a joke of an establishment.
My husband and I have been looking at these apartments for over year. Once our was up, we definitely made this place our first choice to move to. Now we have been to the office and the first lady we encountered was nice and helpful. She gave us all the info we needed to move forward. Well the following week, we came in the evening to find a different lady, who was not so friendly and rude. She basically rushed me and my husband out the door, but another lady out of the office. She kept saying, I have to go and do not have time to run your application, I have to get home. I have someone at my house! Well to say the least that kind of attitude will not get people to come back. Just had to say this. I hope the next time the office will choose to have staff that is more people friendly.
Where do I begin...I’ve been living here for 6 months now and the consistent problem I’ve been having is roaches. When I first noticed them I thought all I needed to do was clean more frequently (even though I always practice good housekeeping) or take my trash out more often than once a week. Nope didn’t help still see random roaches from time to time and it’s embarrassing. I don’t like to have people over because I’m afraid they’ll see one crawling in my home. I’ve called the front desk about the issue, not only do they not seem remorseful or empathetic to my situation it seems like they get this complaint often. The office manager (Debbie) gave me this response after my 4th extermination request! “Well someone will be out there on Thursday, ok bye bye.” Not once did she apologize or sound remorseful for my bad experience. I can’t wait to leave and if I could get out of this lease I definitely would. As a college student finding a reasonably priced place to live close to campus is hard and this place was actually a score. But I hate living here and sometimes regret having to come home. Aside from the roaches the apartment is slightly moldy and the appliances are probably as old as I am. Won’t be renewing my lease!
Homeless living in the laundry room everything is dirty and the new administration does nothing to solve this
Lived there for 3 years before moving on the other side of town.Pros:--------- Close to 695, Loch Raven & Towson Area- Secluded area, quiet for the most part...no one just happens to drive by your complex, they have to find it- Affordable, considering its one of the safer locations in the area- Community is a combination of older professionals/retired people, and younger- Washer & dryer attached to most buildings can be a convenience. One of the reasons it is affordable is because no W/D in the apartment unit.- Front desk is friendly enough...even when you hold their feet to the fire about a maintenance request.Cons:---------- Walls are super thin...you will hear any loud neighbors. In my experience this is something unavoidable with most apartment complexes (the final year of my lease i had a loud next door neighbor who argued with her boyfriend constantly...honestly it was a living hell, i might as well had been apart of their relationship)- You may smell weed or cigarettes....again, unavoidable these days in most apartment complexes- Maintenance can be slow...you may have to harass the front desk for it, but have a backbone if its an emergency and you will fine- When i was living there, there was no way to pay rent online...hopefully theyve evolved from the Type Writers and became more modern by now- Slight rodent problem. Every fall i would have 1 mouse id have to trap and kill but never anything outrageous. Never any bug issues either (i was on 3rd floor)Verdict:----------- Need a affordable place thats safe? Go with it. Just be ready to deal with some cons.
