I started coming here to get my strength back after cancer treatments and to get into shape. I started out pretty frustrated because I honesty didnt know what I was doing. And then I started working with an incredible personal trainer. I can see my body changing and being strong is an amazing feeling. This is by no means easy ... this is the hardest thing I have ever done. Working with Brannon has made all the difference. I look forward to every session.

My complaint regards Rick, who I am told, is the Club Manager of the Shadowlake location. I reached out to Rick something like 2 months ago asking for help with my account. I had lost my job and couldnt afford the payment, I needed every penny of my remaining income to continue to pay my bills. The solution he offered was to freeze the account, with me paying $10 a month and add those months frozen to the end of my contract, essentially extending my contract. I left that day with my account frozen. After talking with my wife, we decided that $10 was needed in our budget, so I reached back out to him, asking for additional help. His response was unmoving and I left upset and disappointed. Regardless of what he was willing to do for me, I still needed that $10 so I had to issue a stop payment through my bank in order to prevent my money being withdrawn further.Fast forward to last week, Alexis had been trying to reach me regarding my account. We finally connected today, 06/30, around 10:30 AM. I let her know the situation I had been in and what I could do. I offered to pay the $100 cancellation fee when I had another couple paychecks under my belt from my new employer. She agreed to see if that was acceptable. I was transferred back to the Club Manager, who offered the same solution given to me twice before. When I asked his name and title, he gave no name, and told me he was the District Manager. He proceeded to tell me that he has absolutely no way to relinquish our contract, or help me out in any way beyond what hes already offered. This really upset me because Ive been in customer service for 15 years and I know that there is always a path to follow to help an out of the ordinary request. He refused to budge. As a result of this, I told him that my account would have to go to collections because my business with him and Genesis Health Clubs was over and he wouldnt see a dime of my money any longer.Bottom line is, Im not looking for a resolution to my contract, I know the consequences of early cancellations, and Im willing to accept those as my own. The issue here is that it seems that you have a person in a powerful position in one of your businesses that is not willing to use that power to help those members that really need it. I also understand that it isnt the normal process or procedure, but the lack of effort and willingness to lie is ultimately unacceptable in customer service, public relations and management.
I have been a new year new you member of gyms for the last ten years. In late 2017 I did my usual I’m gonna change gym registration. This year however was different. Going In to a genesis location I met this charismatic gym guy. He was welcoming and acted like he had known me forever. He walked me around and showed me all the perks I could utilize. He was amazing. Come to find out he was the club manager. Since that moment I knew I was home. All the advisors and physical trainers were extremely friendly. Jason has since become the regional manager introduced me to a spunky, full of joy trainer named Alicia. Now she pushes me to reach goals I never thought I could and every session feels like my friend is cheering me on. I have recommended Genesis dozens of times and would continue to recommend them time and time again.
I have been going to Genesis for 18 months and have been very happy. The environment and equipment is exactly what I am looking for. I train weekly with Alicia. She is the best! She is very knowledgeable on physical training and nutrition and has helped me reach my fitness goals. I recommend her 100%!
I go to this gym daily and love this place. Very authentic feel where you can actually lift weights and make a little noise. Also, from my experience, all of the employees have always been welcoming and encouraging.
I started working out at Genesis in January and have absolutely loved it! The quality of all the facilities is fantastic and the staff are great as well! I see Alicia for personal training and she is nothing short of amazing, she has taken the time to get to know me and make a program that works for me!
The kids club at shadow lake is fantastic!!! Every day they are doing something with the kids. From story time, to crafts, and interactive games. My kids love going to Shadow Lake.Mornings are slow and a great time to work out. I never have to wait for a machine to be open. Variety of classes. Many stations that provide hand sanitizer and cleaner to wipe down equipment.
From the area, but stationed in Cali due to the military. Home for a week and came in to workout, ended up with a free week pass thanks to the generous employees here. Thanks guys!
I have had a great experience at Shadow Lake Genesis. I started coming to this location due to the trainer, Alicia Christensen. She is amazing! She has a great attitude, and always comes up with new fun workouts.
Shadow lake location is quiet and you don’t have to wait for anything. Other members are nice and clean off their equipment when they are done. My personal trainer is fantastic! She is personable and is focused on my fitness growth and is coming up with great sessions.
Alexis Koukis and Rick Hennings are really the employees Genesis needs. Alexis was so knowledgeable, polite and kind when helping me with a billing issue. Rick was very understanding of my situation, he really extended his helping hand. Shadow lake Genesis really has the best staff in my opinion. Thank you Genesis keep being awesome. I hope one day I can move back and be a member of the Genesis family once again.
Got a membership here cause of convenience and how close to my house it is. When I signed up they never mentioned their steam room and sauna were both down, then have the nerve to charge a $42 gym improvement fee. Have had bad experiences with this gym before but seeing as how it’s damn near the only gym that isn’t $80+ around here….
Had some really great training sessions with Alicia and Davina! Learned a lot about how to best utilize the full gym and how to exercise safely will still “making gains”! Love love love this gym and all the staff.
Ashley and Christine are amazing instructors for group classes and all staff is friendly. Small things I noticed would be to fix the lights in functional training room and clean the mirrors more often. Otherwise great club!!!

My boyfriend’s Adidas sweatshirt went missing from his locker at this gym. We asked the front desk if they saw anyone with it, and they said no. I asked if they could check the cameras, they said there are NONE. No cameras anywhere in the building, no cameras in the parking lot. My boyfriend looked in every locker, as did the manager and no one could find it. My boyfriend decided to cancel his membership due to two incidents of theft at two different locations. After we left, we got a call from the gym and they had apparently found the sweatshirt in a locker. They said “one of our members must have moved it.” Which is odd, considering THREE different people checked all the lockers and didn’t see it, but whatever. The other theft incident happened two weeks ago at the Q street gym. My boyfriend’s car was stolen from the parking lot of the Q street location. That location has cameras inside, but the parking lot cameras have been broken for who knows how long and haven’t been fixed. The lack of security is setting thieves up for success, and they continue to be members here and steal from others, because this gym makes it so easy. A shame. Safety and comfort is clearly not a concern for this company they’re more interested in quantity over quality. Not worth the price you pay for a membership. You’re better off paying $10 at a Planet Fitness instead of 40 bucks at Genesis.
Working with Alicia has been a great experience she’s super sweet and has taught me a lot about working out and different techniques.

At the midpoint of my training regimen we switched to Shadow Lake. Alicia has helped thru encouragement and a professional approach. We have worked together and realized a 22 lb weight loss. I also committed to a modified diet to eliminate unnecessary calories. I am without question stronger and enjoy greatly improved cardio at the same time. The supersets have done wonders for me while isolating muscle groups also. Thanks Alicia

I attempted to cancel my membership with Genesis two years ago, but it never really went through, apparently. I refrained from going during the pandemic, but they didnt care, and they still expect me to pay a huge unpaid balance. They convinced me that signing up for a 2-year contract as a gullible 18-year-old kid was a good idea. All they care about is money. Terrible.

As an person who has dealt with Genesis and their many locations for over the past two years, I can tell you that in my opinion this is the absolute worst company to deal with and the worst gym chain in the Midwest.I have had problems at multiple locations (including this one) that have gone all the way up the corporate ladder to the Vice President and I can tell you that even at that level they are not interested in solving customer problems.They appear to be very interested in money and business, but beyond that they are not people-friendly. If you get online and read reviews of Genesis at various locations around Omaha, you will see that many people have the same issues. So, the problematic theme at this company has never been solved and continues negatively affect good people.They also have a problem with personal training. As a Master of Kinesiology and a Master Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, I can also tell you that they do not train people the way that modern standards recommend. Every location is different and will give different training paths - none of which truly train people the way modern trainers should.Please stay away from this company.
I cancelled my membership at the end of October; despite this, my account had continued to be charged through January (we’ll see what this month has in store). Despite several calls and emails, the manager, Hennings, is unavailable (despite him being present to receive my cancellation paperwork).I’ve gone as far as to reach out to Genesis proper, and they’ve been unable to reach the manager at this location as well to cease the charges—or get a call returned. Dont waste your money. Planet Fitness is cheaper. Equipment is old, which by itself wouldnt really be an issue except the grips on several machines is torn or tearing causing uncomfortable grip and/or the adhesive getting all over your hands. Not only are there not enough plates for the benches and other equipment, but theres no central collection rack for them either so youre left scavenging all over looking for the plates you need. Oh, and there arent enough grips for the bars either which are always all over the place. So when youre looking to use the bench or squat rack youre not only scavenging for plates but grips to hold the plates in place. As irritating as all this is though, it pales in comparison to the fact the ONLY reason I opted to pay nearly $60 a month here vs $10 a month at Planet Fitness was the use of the steam room, which by the way has been out of order for over a week and Ive I formed them several times. Additionally, another member informed me it works for a few weeks at a time then wont be working for several weeks to months at a time. Probably going to switch to Planet Fitness since the steam room is apparently inop and unreliable so they have everything this place has for a fraction of the price.Update as of 10/6/2020: Originally posted review on 9/30/2020. Emailed them as they asked in their comment on 10/1/2020. Have yet to receive a response. Steam room still not working. Going on 3 weeks now if my memory is correct.Update as of 10/13/2020: Still no contact from them after they asked me to email them. Steam room worked a few days last week, but as of today its broken again. Dont waste your money.Update as of 10/27/2020: Still no contact from them after I sent them an email as they asked. The last time I was in there (Monday the 19th I believe) the steam room was STILL not functioning. Finally got around to cancelling the membership last week. The manager seemed surprised.
Both of the 29th of March, 2021 and April 15th, 2021 there has been no staff here to open the gym at the 5 o’clock opening time, I understand humans make mistakes and people sleep in, but these are not two isolated occasions, this has happened numerous times and it continues to happen, a large amount of people wake up everyday to come to your gym at 5, by no means does this make me want to continue coming to your gym, I can get over the duct tape holding the shower heads together, or the light bulbs that are always out, or the soap dispensers being empty, but not being open consistently when you should be, is unacceptable
Went in to inquire about a membership and felt like they were trying selling me a used car.
The gym was clean, the equipments were clean, and there were signs all over the place to remind gym members of the threat of the pandemic. Staff took measures to ensure rules were adhered to. I wish the sauna was operational, but overall, it was a satisfying gym experience.Edit 9/4/20: the steam room for men was operational this morning when I went in. Two thumbs up!
This place is my favorite gym.
Signed up for a month to month and they were refusing to let me end the membership. Attempted to cancel 2 weeks after I signed up, paying 140 dollars between fees and membership for the month, because I did not like the gym. Signed paperwork to cancel and they lost it so i had to come back in and sign again but they tried to add another month. They are scammers for sure and tried to add extra charges we did not agree on. I had to report them as fraud and shut down my bank account to get them to stop charging. I did not like this gym because people were using multiple equipment and I could never get on the equipment I wanted because of it. The place is dirty and carpeted which stinks and the equipment is in disrepair. word of advice is STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Dishonesty from management and poor upkeep.
The steam room has been broken for months now and nobody has even tried to get back even after multiple inquiries.
First time here since they bought out The Athletic Club. Liked that very few people here, but it was dirty as others have stated and feels like maybe an afterthought of the Geneis family. Outdated equipment. Curious now to hit 84th street club to see if any better.
HORRIBLE experience. I signed up for a month to month- I asked multiple times if it was month to month and a tall, fat bald manager told me it was month to month multiple times. I call to cancel cus i Moved to Texas and they said its an 18 month contract and will cost 140 to cancel, completely lied to my face and when I explained that, they didnt want to help me cancel since i was lied to. Absolutely abysmal management here, they are either liars or they are ignorant of their own contacts either way you cannot trust what the workers here tell you. Go to a different gym, seriously go to another gym.

Edited, not anything really positive to say. This is not exclusive to Shadow Lake, but all the clubs in Omaha that I have been to are horribly dirty, Ive seen a person cleaning at Tara Plaza in one of the group rooms, but they must skip the bathrooms. Shadow Lake has cobwebs and dirt build up in a lot of places. I try to ignore the dirt since Im able to sanitize the machines myself. A lot of machines have been out of service since March 2020, I thought that when they closed for the pandemic they would have time to clean and repair the broken machines, nope. Now with the distancing needed they have even fewer machines to use. I have two more years on my contract, wishing now that I would have done 1 year.Id give 5 stars if they cleaned their facilities and their machines worked.
I am super excited to start teaching yoga at the Shadow Lake location on Monday/Wednesday at 6:15am starting January 6th. I recently moved to Bellevue, so Shadow Lake is my new “Home Gym”. I continue to be impressed with how clean it always is. Staff is has always been friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I would recommend this location to anyone! Grateful to be a part of this incredible community!

Amazing gym. Theres a ton of equipment and a lot of space so you dont feel right on top of anyone and you dont have to wait to use a machine. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to help you learn a new machine or technique.
Upside of this gym is the culture and mid aged folks just trying to stay healthy. Downside is lacks cleaning it use to and not best equipment in comparison to base gym. Still enjoy going here mainly due to low key atmosphere.
Would be higher if they could manage to get the facility open as posted. 30 cars in the lot waiting at 5 am. Generally 3-4 minutes late. Two Thursdays in a row not open by the time I left at 5:25. Spin class starts at 5:15 am BTW. Could be a lot cleaner as well. Huge props to the spinner instructors. They rock it.
I have called two times now and nobody including the club manager and membership manager has followed up with me. I canceled my membership back in February yet theyre still charging me and dont have a record of me doing so. Unreal and now going to corporate in hopes that even gets me anywhere.
I love the atmosphere at this location, all of the staff is friendly. Its hard for me to get comfortable with a gym but I had no troubles at all with this gym. They have a lot of machines I enjoy and so far everyone Ive met there is always willing to share the equipment. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
I absolutely love going to the morning classes here. Janene Cobia’s group fight class is amazing. She keeps you moving non stop. It challenges both your mind and body. Stacy’s boot camp class is a perfect mixture of strength and cardio, which is a great way to get both. Denise does a fantastic cycle class on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s mornings. Last but not least Christina does a fantastic core class that I love to attend after Dennis’s class. And on Wednesdays and Friday’s Christina does a group power class which has done wonders with toning and strengthening my body. All of these classes combined have done wonders for my health, my endurance, my body and my confidence!!!
This club is generally clean and well-maintained. I enjoy the spin and other fitness classes. Everything I need is at this gym, Including childcare. Although my kids prefer some of the other genesis locations simply because they have a jungle gym/ slide inside of them and this location does not.
The staff here is AWESOME!Ive been to several gym and this one has the most personable employees I have ever met. My personal trainer Alex makes sure I dont overdo myself. That is a true professional! I havent seen or met someone like Alex, in a very long time.
Tito and Courtney are my trainers. They are both wonderful and pushing me to get to my fat burning and healthy life style goals as well as being down to earth and fun to workout with.
I was interested in a membership over a year ago, but ended up going with another gym. TO THIS DAY, I still get emails, texts, phone calls about signing up. Ive told them many times I am not interested. What will it take for them to stop harassing me?
I love going to Golds in Papillion!! The guys who work there are nothing but welcoming and humble. I have nothing but great things to say about the membership staff! Thanks for making it such a comfortable place to be. On top of that, the equipment is up to date, the facility is always clean, and the locker rooms/showers, etc are unbeatable! I definitely recommend signing up for a membership!!
The gym is always clean, the machines are in working order, the temperature is just right. The rating would be higher if the staff put forth effort to know and greet the regulars by name. Keep up the good work!
I have seen some positive changes recently, however the equipment really needs to be updated or at the very least fixed. I was using an elliptical last night that has not worked correctly since Genesis took over. It shuts off as soon as you stop and you cannot get your stats on the workout you did. Also the cable wire has been broken for some time on the same elliptical. It is things like this that cause me to give only 3 stars. I also attend the classes at least 2 to 3 times per week and love them. I do wish there was more variety but understand that the numbers are not always there.

Super friendly staff Im always greeted with a smile as I walk in. I had the pleasure of meeting the manager dillon hes really shaped this gym up. Everything is spotless and Ive never felt more welcome. Ive been to other gyms around the area but this location is my favorite.
Our Shadow Lake Papillion NE Genesis is always clean and has great music to exercise to. There are lots of classes to participate in, and smiling faces at every corner. The locker rooms are clean and the same with showers and rest rooms. We have used trainers, and always learn and get good habits as a result.
Very clean and well kept facility. The club seems to keep customers well informed of improvements and other changes. Genesis has a good variety of classes and workout equipment that is complimentary to the strengths of each facility.

I like that it’s not too crowded and when I want to use a machine most of the time it’s available. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I feel comfortable and that’s how you get results!
Update: No one ever followed up with me. Just trying to save face I guess.Agree that customer service is absolutely terrible. Avoid this gym at all costs if you can. There are so many hidden fees and ridiculous contracts. I decided to just pay the $275 to cancel my membership but oh yeah, apparently they require 30 days notice so I still got charged another month. As if the $275 wouldnt cover your trouble, you still need another 50? Such a scam!

Where do they hire these people from? Trainers in the locker rooms taking selfies and flexing their skinny arms. You try to make a change on your account and no one knows how to help you. Worst gym ever! Hire people that have some type of education in the industry. Everyone is just sits there on their phones. No member service. I guess that is what you get at a minimum wage job!

They couldnt tell me how they got my phone number or how I got on there list. They called me multiple times throughout the week. When I asked to be taken off their list, the sales rep Jessica was rude and pushy. She wanted to know if I belonged to another gym. After telling her I wasnt interested she asked me ifI belonged to another gym, what I did for exercise and felt that I should do more. After telling her I wasnt interested 3 times she asked for my name and hung up.
So rude to people just because you dont want to go try it out. If people already have their gym membership somewhere else and they tell you that, then dont get mad and be rude. Get over it and look for new customers elsewhere.
WORST COMPANY--- STAY AWAY! After being pressured into joining this overly priced gym and cancelling my membership right away following this (which included paying the very expensive cancellation fee), the company continues to try to bill me... I have spoken with the gym managers and none of them have been helpful or been willing to help me figure out why the gym continues to charge me. I DO NOT recommend this gym.
This gym is now a genesis instead of a golds gym, and it was great. I went in to try the 7 day trial before signing up, they talked to me about my goal and really listened to what it is im trying to achieve. They educated me on theyre process, to help me reach my goals and it was the best gym experience Ive ever had.
Our Shadow Lake Genesis is always ready for us to show up. Smiling greeters, knowledgeable trainers, polite exercisers, clean bathrooms, lockers and lots of equipment to get us fit. We appreciate our gym!!

The place is dirty, most equipment is worn out or broken. I think corporate needs to put some money into this location as they did at Tara (84th Street). Even if they dont replace the worn out equipment it would be nice if management would at least keep the place clean.

I signed up for a free 1 week trial in 2013. I have received phone calls from Matt and 2 other gentleman every month, sometimes more than once a week. They send texts and leave voicemails constantly. I was very polite the first couple of YEARS however this past year I confronted them about calling me all the time and continuing to call me after I asked them to stop and they hung up on me. I have now reported them to the BBB and will be providing copies of my phone records to show their abusive marketing practices that are illegal. From looking at these revies I am not the only one dealing with this issue either.

Pros: Ive never had to wait for equipment. The prices are reasonable for what they offer. They have plenty of parking which is always a plus.Cons: childcare hours, wish they were open friday afternoons 4-8pm like every other day during the week for those who work. I also wish they had Sunday hours for kids club even if they were short like Saturdays. They also sd not have a ton of options for toys inside the kids area, its clear they spent a ton of money on the gym equipment but not much on this childcare room. They also can not control the temperature. Today it was near 90 degrees in the room, my 8.5 month old was sweaty and clamy when I picked her up, 8 year olds cheeks bright red and she was saying it was so hot in there. Even the childcare employees were complaining of being hot and sweaty . They definitely need to get the temperature under control for safety reasons. I also did not like they do not have a designated infant area. My 8.5 month old is crawling, youd think they had a section gated off to contain movers but nope she can crawl all over the dirty floor covered in salt from the snow and ice and water from kids wet shoes. I had hoped to see the kids area slowly improve but you can tell its just not important at this loxation. Definitely not resigning when our membership is up, will pay more for a better facility for my children. For a person without kids, sure this could be a great gym but I cant comfortably recommend it to someone who has them.

Awful experience. I visited to discuss a membership 8 months ago and have gotten non-stop calls from different numbers asking me to join since. I have talked to at least 3 people and have requested I be taken off their list. It has not happened in 8 months. Do not leave your personal information.At this point, I consider it harrassment and have no respect for this company.
Very clean and very friendly! Been to a lot of different gyms and Genesis is hands down the best out there! From good cardio machines to great powerlifting equipment, this makes Genesis the perfect gym!
Not even a one.. had to pick a star to post.I gave notice in May for a freeze on my membership because of a shoulder injury with a Drs note. I asked to terminate my membership at the same time by Oct. Alex has been helping me but this big mess isnt being addressed to the proper mgmt, because they in turn are all leaving the club!! They have taken 4 months of my money! I am totally wanting to tell everyone what a crooked place the inside of the club is.. check it out, dont take face value!! Still waiting with all my credentials needed. A very untrustworthy club management for sure!! Alex please end this process with my money refunded to me!

I’ve been searching for a good gym in the Bellevue/Papillion area, and searching my options for about a week. Today, I decided to stop into Genesis at Shadow Lake to get a quick tour and feel for the place. The front desk people were nice and told us that they would have someone come talk to us. An employee who handles the memberships came over and talked to us and they got a trained worker to show us around. The employee who showed us around was extremely standoffish, and could care less about potential members. He then took us over to the membership area and made us sit down and threw his pen down and got the other employee. They then proceeded to hound us with questions about why we wouldn’t sign with them. He then begged and asked us what will make us sign, we said nothing and he still was bashing other gyms in the area to convince us. We were so uncomfortable that we had to say im sorry and leave, they were extremely rude. I definitely won’t be back to this establishment.
Nonstop calls. I gave them the benefit of the doubt last year because my gyms rates were going up. I was unemployed and low on money at the time, but was starting a new job the following month so I wanted to plan ahead. They called and I set up an appointment. Biggest mistake. I didnt think I could get harassed through text but I have. I was trying to explain that I wasnt going to Shadowlake afterall, had lost my job, and that it was really out of the way for me. Then the guy whines to me in a very unprofessional manner about how he had come in on his day off, specifically to give me a tour. I feel bad because I think its some kid whos boss was gonna get after him. Turns out its an older man who wasnt friendly for even a second the entire time I was there. They make you give them your liscense right away to have on file. I tried to explain to them that I wouldnt be able to join until March because I was unemployed at the time and would need to save up again. He shows me their prices and the only way it would be more affordable than my current gym at the time was if I signed a 3 year contract. I told him I wouldnt be able to even consider joining until March so to please not contact me until then. The man throws a hissy fit but agrees and basically shoos me out of the building. I never got the tour either which was the entire reason I drove across town. Then starting the next day the phone calls and voicemails started coming and dont seem to be ending. Ive blocked their phone numbers and they still continually fill up my voicemail. I thought they might be a good switch at first but now I wouldnt go to them if they were the last gym on Earth. Stop hounding people when they tell you they cant join at the time and maybe youd have a shot at getting them to join when theyre able...
Genesis will rob you blind. You pay $50 a month in membership dues and then they have to charge you a yearly $40 enhancement fee because apparently your membership money doesnt go towards things like maintaining their equipment.
