I visited as a tennis tournament participant as a first timer to the club. Extremely impressed from the moment I stepped into the facility and was promptly greeted, then asked for a sign in.The eight indoor tennis courts recently received an uplift to the lighting. It just took a little getting used to the angle of the glare and then it was fine. The changing room was very adequate. The snack/food bar was stocked with tasty choices.Lots of activities for the kids, adults, yoga, squash, racquetball, weights, conditioning programs, swimming....it has many amenities to please and service range of users.Overall, a very nice facility, certainly a gem for the area and beyond.

Only reason I did not give a 5 star rating is I do not use the club or its immenities. I have had various clients through the years I take there or drop off. They enjoy it. This club doesn’t care about its members or keeping them. “Sorry you feel that way” is their main policy. Don’t waste your money here!UPDATE: The owners response says it all. No problem with the policies. Problem with clubs value in its members. Willing to let a gold member cancel no problem. Not even checking to see if they can accommodate in anyway! BEWARE OF THIS FACILITY.I’ve been a member on and off for years, recently rejoining after moving back to the area. Mask mandates require the wearing of masks to protect the public from the spread of COVID, and when asked why the rooms are full of people working out without masks on, the response the front desk staff give is, “We’re complying with the Governor’s mandate but not putting our staff in any confrontational situations.”What a joke. The name should be changed to Valley Athletic Club and Petri Dish.If they’re this hard and fast about a public health emergency, how are they on other safety measures? Probably just as lax!Canceled my membership on the spot. I’d advise you to steer way clear of this facility.EDIT: Ive always had good experiences with the customer service at the Valley, and my conversation with Jody was no exception. Thank you for your time and perseverance in connecting with me! :)She shared with me the numerous improvements the facility has made to ensure the cleanliness of the environment for their members - increased cleaning schedules, air filtration systems, after-hours deep-clean teams. All of this is welcome and encouraging, and they are doing their best in regard to physical engineering to protect people from illness.Sadly, this hard work is all for naught when folks are coming in and removing their masks as soon as they start moving their bodies. Its the human factors engineering that needs addressing. Its a difficult place to be when your staff are harassed by paying members who angrily confront them about something that is outside of their control. As an RN and active leadership member with our frontline staff during this pandemic, I do understand their frustration and desire to care for their team when treated so poorly by paying members. We at the frontline of healthcare have the same challenges with anti-masking members of the public. My question continues to be why this behavior is tolerated. It is indeed a privilege to have such a fantastic facility to use to improve health and wellness. If someone is paying to use services, it does not give them the right to run roughshod over the staff. If folks will not mask when they are using the facility, its time for them to go. Plain and simple. Not addressing the human factors negates all the work the Valley has put into the physical engineering. Its exposing compliant members to illness (not to mention staff, my goodness!) at the expense of not having to ask disrespectful people to leave. With the low rate of vaccination in Thurston County as of this writing, thats nearly 50% of the patrons each day who are unvaccinated coming through the front door.Thats a huge risk to everyone. I encourage the Valley Athletic Club to reconsider their policy of not putting their staff in confrontational situations by developing some language that gives them the right to ask patrons to leave if they will not abide by the rules. Many times these kinds of notices (and seeing people being kindly asked to keep their masks up over their noses) act as mitigation strategies so that staff do not have to get into those kinds of situations in the first place.I wish you all the best. These are difficult times, and we will get through them if we all do our part to ensure that were taking care of each other.Thank you again for our respectful conversation this past week.

I had a scheduled apt at V-Spa with Jennifer, an Esthetician. I asked if I could receive a call back from her to discuss any Covid precautions taken. An extremely rude Marianna at reception followed by a rude call from Kristen the V-Spa manager both refused to pass my message on to Jennifer. The level of unprofessionalism and dismissiveness was shocking. When I asked Kristen why she refused to pass a message on to Jennifer asking her to call me, Kristen’s reply was “ I’m not going to have this conversation with you any longer”, and she hung up on me. A voicemail from one of the owners, Jody, was just as unprofessional and indifferent. There is nothing positive I can say about my first experience with the staff at the Valley V-Spa nor Jody, an owner. Such a uncaring, and distasteful way to treat prospective clients. I would give zero stars if possible.

We have had an ambivalent relationship to the Valley. I like the racquetball facilities and outdoor pool, but cannot understand the management culture. We called to put our membership on hold due to discomfort with using indoor facilities during Covid and having encountered significant groups of unmasked people in the hallways when trying to access the outdoor pool. We were told it would cost over $100 to put our membership on hold, that we had missed a window. We have now canceled our membership and although i talked to a manager, the person was unable to understand that this policy is unfair to those of us who are adverse to the level of risk posed by allowing so many people to wander the hallways without masks. A showy gun at the front door isn’t enough for me and i wish the valley would adopt policies that don’t penalize those of us who would rather step away until the pandemic has resolved, but who waited until August rather than making that decision immediately in July.

I have been a member at The Valley for about a year, and for the most part this gym is worth the price. I wish they could create a system like other gyms to be 24 hours, at least the free weight areas. Not being open 24/7 creates some issues, especially on the weekends and holidays when they close early or are not open at all. Is there anything in the works to make this happen?Otherwise, the space is huge and typically isn’t overcrowded. The staff is helpful, and machines are always up and running.

The gym has a large set of various equipment which is the primary reason why I workout here. I can always find the machine or workout item I need to complete my routines and there is never a very long wait to use a piece of equipment. However, there are obvious areas of improvement:1) The customer service staff need be trained to use common sense when offering water: please dont offer me water while im in the middle of my last set of squats...I dont have the breath to respond nor do I need water when I usually have more than enough in my water bottle right next to me. I feel bad when I ignore them because they are young and are clearly lacking some training. Not their fault, but hard to not get frustrated when Im trying to focus on my breath and workout. I dont mind them asking me when Im unoccupied or resting in between sets, theyre very courteous and friendly. Its just a minor irritation to be questioned about water when I clearly dont want it.2) The ventilation could be better. There doesnt seem to be enough fresh air/oxygen getting into the gym. Sometimes I have to halt my workouts because of shortness of breath, dizziness and/or nausea that are nearly instantly resolved upon stepping outside for some fresh air (something that took me way too long to figure out. I used to just lay on the mats for 30 minutes or so just trying to ward off dizziness or nausea). This also happened to my sister while working out and her symptoms also resolved almost immediately after stepping outside. Albeit, Ive had this problem at other gyms before (usually older ones with poor ventilation), so it could just be something unique to me and my siblings but its never happened as much as it has while working out at the valley. It is an older building so maybe a restructuring of their air ventilation may not be feasible but it would be nice if the air quality could be improved somehow.3) Cleaner gym equipment. There have been multiple times where Ive seen machines looking dirty continuously for weeks at a time, with the same dirty/sticky spots that I would notice the day/week prior. Also the mats dont seem to be getting cleaned at the end of the day. I always wipe the mats off before and after using them and usually my towel will have a dark residue of grime/dirt from all the contact with shoes. Cleaning equipment/mats is a tedious job and a constant battle since it sees so much use but pristine equipment/mats are the hallmarks of a high quality gym and something that Ive became accustomed to when I was living in the Seattle area. These are not major issues and Ive been happy with the customer service and facilities for the most part. I love the classes offered, the friendly trainers and staff, and the wide array of equipment offered. I just noticed areas of improvements that could take this athletic club to the next level.

A 5 Star gym - why the 4 star? There is NO flexibility in membership plans, no discounts for veterans and no flexibility in price when bringing visitors @ $15 a pop. My adult nephew wanted to join who is a marine and no deal for a veteran - just whatever the deal of the month is.When I bring the grandchildren to play in the pool; they charge you $15 per person - I got 6 grand kids.No free passes to share with friends or family - just $15 a wack per person in charges. They charge you more to use racquetball and even more to use tennis courts - but if you ONLY play racquetball for example; no flexibility in price - you are forced to pay as if you use all the other facilities. My wife and kids only use the pool, nothing else - again; no flexibility in plans. The competition down the road has/had a plan you pay $29 a month for just racquetball and for $5 more a month you can bring one person with you when you come to the facilities - so $30 a month for two people vs the about $150 I pay for the whole family (to be fair there is 4 in my family). This facility doesnt have a pool though is all.The facilities are top notch - one of the largest Ive seen. The staff are amazing and friendly. It just kills me when I get the $160 a month bill which includes some extra $6 a month to be allowed to use a bigger towel).

The place is really hit or miss when it comes to customer service. The owner needs to invest in some service training programs for his employees. Ive struggled with keeping my membership, but until someone else builds an equally competitive gym (with all the amenities), but with better customer service, we are stuck with one option. Poor service examples and rude experiences include being told to put my phone away while recording my child swimming (we go about 1 time a week and numerous parents are always on phones recording their children), not once but three times total, even after putting my phone away, after I explained how an intstructor told me it was okay to snap photos of my child, and being stared at like a crazy person by the rest of club members. Me having to show proof of marriage to my husband so we could have a joint account was the biggest ordeal Ive ever had when it comes to account services. Pluses include the following: The front desk staff is generally kind and friendly. The CAC staff are friendly and professional. The gym is clean and tidy. We will continue to have our membership and tolerate the service provided. I am hopeful that changes in customer care could happen in the future to ensure a consistent positive experience. Id rather have staff always be kind and respectful instead of always offering water.

UPDATE: As you can see “the owner” reached out to attempt to “remedy the situation”. Well I called and didn’t hear back for 2 days. Today I got a call today from another person in the billing department stating that that’s not actually the owner who responded but a random employee with basically a generic message and the phone call was just to let me know, very rudely, that they’ve done all they are willing to do and that’s that. Literally. The posts from “the owner” are just to publicly attempt to look like they care about client issues. Insane!Original post:NOT MILITARY/ DEPLOYMENT FRIENDLY. This place is a nightmare! They act military friendly but if your husband has to deploy they’ll make you pay full price for a single membership while he’s gone! And the departments don’t coordinate with each other and it really screwed me when I tried to cancel and now I’m stuck with a huge bill at a gym I haven’t used in months! My husband had to deploy and pause his account so they gave me the option to stay with them and pay full price on my own account or cancel by the 1st of that month. I ended up deciding I wanted to cancel so I called and did so with the girl at the front desk over the phone who told me it looked like it had been cancelled and I was good to go. 2 months later they’re trying to send me to collections because they had made me a separate account without my husband on it without my knowledge and was charging me every month even though I told the girl at the front desk I NEEDED to make sure it was cancelled. HEATHER in billing has been completely unwilling to help or refund the charges! They are so desperate for every penny they can get their hands on that they’ll completely screw a loyal client who had to leave due to affordability after finding out the military discount doesn’t extend to wives of deployed soldiers. Such a bad way to manage business and so outwardly money hungry and disloyal to clients. My husband and I would have gladly came back after his deployment but we will never go back or recommend this place to anyone.

My wife and I have been going to this Gym for approximately nine months and never had a problem until today. My wife is from a foreign country and does not speak English and we were having a simple problem with a female employee. Every time we go into the Gym to work out this employee would attempt to talk to my wife for 5 or 10 minutes and interrupt our workout schedule and limited time. My wife cant speak English well at all but she tried to give this woman a hint but she wasnt taking the hints. We are very busy people with very busy schedules and were lucky to find an hour to go to the Gym at all and when we do we want to go and work out and go home. We dont have time to chit chat. This has been an ongoing problem for a while. Apparently this employee has a fascination with people from foreign countries like Russia. Maybe she should find herself a penpal or somebody that has time for her. Anyways I decided it was time to speak with the manager about this problem because it was becoming a problem. Every minute you take away from me at the Gym is that much less sleep Im going to get that night. At first my wife and I were laughing about this crazy woman that wouldnt stop trying to talk to her but after awhile it wasnt funny anymore and needed to stop because its interrupting our limited time we have to workout. Not a big deal I went down and attempted to speak to a manager and that is when I got a shock of my life. I simply explained the problem and told the manager my wife doesnt know English well enough to explain this to you so Im being her voice and all we ask is that this employee not disturb her work out because she takes 5 or 10 minutes from us every time we come in here. This should have been a very simple problem to resolve I would think. The manager said thats exactly what we train our employees to do. Theyre supposed to be friendly.I said theres no problem with being friendly I appreciate that but when you interrupt our very limited 1 hour workout schedule on a daily basis that is a problem. The next thing that came out of this managers mouth was maybe you should cancel your membership. I said I think at this time I would like to speak with your supervisor and thats when the woman got more irritated with me. She became condescending and hostile towards me and said some things to me like my wife was a nice person but I wasnt.I said again I think I would like to speak with your supervisor and she said my supervisor would agree with me so I dont see any reason for you to talk to her and I said well I think I would like to anyways and she refused to give me her phone number. The next thing she does for the second time is suggest that I cancel our membership. I am completely baffled what kind of business are you people running. I think somebody needs to go back to small business school and learn who the customer is and where their money comes from. I had a simple problem the manager should have said yeah Ill talk to the employee no problem if you have any further questions or concerns come talk to me other than that have a nice day. It should have been that simple. The second time she tried to convince me to cancel my membership I took her up on it I said okay fine cancel it. There are Gyms located almost on every street corner this is America my money is good everywhere if you dont want it I will gladly take my business elsewhere no problem. It was a very strange experience. My story is simple I guess the place is alright unless you have a problem then there answer will be just cancel your membership. It was like this manager was on a power trip and was threatening to take my gym membership away. I dont care theres a gym on every corner Ill take my business right on down the street theyll be happy to see me. You dont want my $1,800 a year for your overpriced Gym no problem Ill take it somewhere else. If this is the way you people do business I dont want to do business with you anyway. I wouldnt do it if you were the only Gym in the Country. This is not how you treat customers!

The Valley is kind of pricey for a gym in this area but for what you pay you get a huge facility with enough room to never seem too crowded no matter how busy. The atmosphere is good and everything is kept very clean. The gym can sometimes feel big enough to get lost in which is nice if youre not trying to be social while working out; you can often find an empty room and feel like you have the place to yourself as long as you come at the right hour which leads me to the hours. The only reason I didnt give a 5 star review is because this gym closes at 10pm. This makes sense as it is really set up as a family gym but for a college student ltr myself it is quite annoying. The only upside to this is the gym is pretty empty from 8 to 10pm.

Fair warning, I just joined VAC yesterday. I believe this place suffers from reviewers who are obviously upset about particular issues (its well-known that people are more likely to review after a bad experience than after a good experience.)As well, I would probably rate Very Good if it werent for so many terrible reviews. So I chose Excellent to help boost the overall score. All that being said, I have belonged to several gyms in South Puget Sound area and VAC is hands-down the largest and most diverse in equipment, classes and facilities. If you want a lot of choices for activities this place is wonderful! Yes, there are 3 levels of membership, each of which include/exclude certain amenities, and the enrollment is not cheap. However I benefited from a half-off enrollment special and signed up with my boyfriend for the Silver (mid-level) membership (since neither of us play Tennis we did not need the Gold). $50/month each!Even for the basic membership at $61 this place is a steal - IF you utilize the facilities. I agree with the others whove said if youre just looking for a basic gym there are cheaper options, no doubt. The hours are very good in my opinion, the staff helpful, the classes so far have been good - not too crowded. And the outdoor pools are a wonderful asset during the summer (As well as two indoor pools!) - This is what initially drew us to VAC. Every other pool in the area is so overcrowded with screaming kids. There is an entirely separate lap-pool from the regular pool for those who simply want to swim!I will certainly update my review if anything glaringly bad arises but so far I am very happy that Ive joined VAC!

I told him thats not okay and needs to talk to their boss. His response was this... you cant do that in this place or you get knocked down and Hell from her. The owner prides himself on making a difference... I guess his idea of a difference is rude and disrespectful management and poor treatment of staff. This place is wrong on so many levels.

Front desk staff is always friendly and love the cafe, great sandwiches. When it comes to dealing with the managers about paying for lessons and training it was difficult to get timely and accurate responses. Dealing with billing was a pain. Abrupt answers to your questions. Being the only good club in town they have no competition unfortunately. BTW, your kids may get molluscum contagiosum at swimming pools.

Ive done a lot of $10 or $20 deal gyms and none of those compare to an athletic club. Not to mention one like the Valley that focuses not only on customer satisfaction but their employees as well. It shows in the way the business is run and quality of people they hire. I love this gym and Id recommend it to anyone who values customer service and spacious work out rooms. Not to mention tennis courts and an indoor and outdoor pool.

I could write an Essay on why this is the best Gym around. If you have a family and want to get your kids involved and can afford a few extra bucks every month this place will go above and beyond to spoil you while you reach your goals! Pools, Activities Galore, a Park, Child care, Preschool, So many weight rooms, Tennis and so much more!

Not really a bad club, but it has a very mercenary attitude toward guests of members, demanding a Kings Ransom of $20, up from$10 which was bad enough. One of the members acted entitled, like I should share my lap Lane when I plainly stated that swimming butterfly couldve lead to injuries with another swimmer in the lane, but thats just the membership, not the club.

Lots of options, generally good people. Policies can get punitive sometimes and there have been numerous rashes of theft... both inside and in parking lot.BUT... they have kept our membership cost lower than inflation rate, they do a good job of hiring in a high turnover environment, and as long as you avoid the heaviest rush times theres plenty of space. Its a community for most members. My Valley bill is one of the few I dont mind paying each month. Its lower than either Comcast or Verizon & worth so much more.

I love this place, wonderful facility with terrific service, and they have 4 pools, 2 of them are outdoors so during the summer you can hang out at the pool in lounge chairs and the staff will bring you water. You feel pampered here, and the place is well kept and very clean, with a steam room, dry sauna and hot tub in the locker room.

Join for the pools and the racquet sports, plus *super* friendly polite staff who actually learn your name & make you feel amazing. Zumba and body pump classes are excellent and challenging ... but not too much so.Group yoga classes are a little talk-heavy for my tastes but I think most people enjoy that and you can choose from easy to intense; the value for yoga offerings alone make the membership worth it, though you might spend some time in the womens locker room wondering why they havent updated the fallout shelter look. Overall a great value for a family especially.

This place is as many people have mentioned: expensive. I just called to see if a friend could work out with me, maybe once or twice, and of course they charge for that. Butttt if you sign up for the membership you get your money back. Its like cell phone companies and the monopoly that it is for consumers. You have option A or option B in the Oly/Tum area. The pools are nice and I enjoy the jacuzzi but just walking through the place you sorta get the feeling it needs a face lift. The staff is always friendly and helpful but what gym would hire someone who isnt?Credit needs to be given where credit is due. Parking is never an issue here, nor is the clubs proximity from where I live. You wont have to stand around for a weight machine or anything like that as there is ample equipment. If your looking for an everything-in-one health facility, this is really your only choice. People who can afford the cost seem to really enjoy it. The gym after all should be an escape. If youre looking to just do the basics, try 24 Hour Fitness near the mall for a more reasonable price.

Many people are claiming this place is expensive. My wife and I pay about $55 / person. I was previously paying $45 at 24 Hour Fitness, and that place had about 30% of the space and was always busier. This gym has everything! 3 Locker rooms, 3 Weight rooms, 2 Basketball courts, Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, Racquetball and Squash courts, everything you really need. If youre a tennis player you will need the top of the line membership. Everything is always clean, well kept, very friendly staff! They even come around and ask if you need water, feels more like a club than a gym.

I joined the club in 2010, at the time it was one of the only gyms in the area with a quality deadlift platform and the equipment I needed for training. The staff at the time were friendly enough and seemed to know their jobs. Fast forward to two years ago and the club began a swift downhill slid. Equipment is no longer cared for, children are allowed in the Olympic weigh room, the manager is rude, disrespectful and has absolutely no concept of customer service, the staff are ill-trained, rude and disrespectful and the accounting department continually makes errors and then charges the customer as if said errors were their fault. There used to be a sense of family at the club, now the atmosphere is antagonistic, stand-offish and downright repugnant. I will no longer be attending this club and I strongly advise no one to join. There are so many better clubs in the area!

I have not been here many times, but its OK. I used to go to the Washington Athletic Club when I lived in Seattle, which is just on another level. This place is nice, but its not top-shelf, despite the awards they have on the wall.Reading other reviews, I think its funny that theyre not giving corrections officers a discount, given that their rationale is they give police officers one because theyre in harms way. Guess what? Police officers arent even in the top 10 most dangerous jobs. Being a taxi driver is more dangerous. Being a lumberjack is TEN TIMES more dangerous than being a LEO. Do you give lumberjacks discounts?? Theres probably lots of them in this neck of the woods! Other jobs where the workers are more in harms way include fishing, airplane pilot, roofer, garbage man, farmer/rancher, steel worker, commercial truck driver, and electrical line worker.Another point to bear in mind is that not all officer fatalities are homicides. Out of the 100 deaths in 2013, 31 were shot, 11 were struck by a vehicle, 2 were stabbed, and 1 died in a bomb-related incident. Other causes of death were: aircraft accident (1), automobile accident (28), motorcycle accident (4), falling (6), drowning (2), electrocution (1), and job-related illness (13).Even assuming that half these deaths were homicides, policing would have a murder rate of 5.55 per 100,000, comparable to the average murder rate of U.S. cities: 5.6 per 100,000. Its more dangerous to live in Baltimore (35.01 murders per 100,000 residents) than to be a cop in 2014.But I digress. This place is nice enough, and while not at WAC level, its the place Id most likely join if I were the gym joining type. On the other hand, I have to question the ethics behind excluding corrections officers mid promotional offer on the basis of a harms way benchmark of which you clearly have no clue.Cheers!

What a joke to think correction officer are not apart of law enforcement. Its 1 officer to 135 plus inmates who are murders, rapest, druggies and so much more. But they say we arent in harms way and arent part of law enforcement. Good going way to support the people that put there lives on the line. This club is just money hungry.

Eight years ago, I moved out of the Olympia area and had to leave my membership behind. I actually really enjoyed the gym. It was clean, well maintained, and offered a lot of different activities for everyone in our family. When I went to cancel it, I was told I needed to bring my lease. So I made another trip to Tumwater (60 round trip miles) and brought a copy of my lease. I was never told at the time that I had a balance due, nothing. They said thanks and that was that. Eight years later, try to join again and they have sent me to full collections. They did not change the billing address to the new one in 2007 when I provided the lease, sent notices to our old address and I never received them. Now, they refuse to take away the collection charges, wont take the risk (yes, this is what the manager said. what risk? Its a membership to a gym, not a new car.) that we wont pay our membership. I even offered to pay the $133 that we originally owed if they would erase the other $91 because of their mistake. They pulled out the policy word several times and said they no longer own the account and there was nothing they could do. Well, that is just not the case. They are a privately owned business. This manager even spoke with the owner and he refused because of policy. Terrible business decision. My husband was actually going to give them the joining fee today ($90) which would have cancelled out the amount we actually owe in fines and interest. They could have even offered to waive the sign up fee, but no compromise was even suggested. Never again will they get a single dime of our money. Greedy, lacking in customer service skills--horrible. Please spread the word that if you join, your financial future is at risk. I thought these were only tactics companies like Ballys used, not the Valley. I expected better from them.

June 2022 update.Six stars might be more accurate. This place handled ALL aspects of Covid mania better than any other business I can think of... AND when masks became optional for the vaccinated their email to members was a masterpiece. (focus of message, mind your own business, respect peoples privacy and lets get along) They held my membership on pause from April 2020 through February 2021 until I activated it in March. Oh, and their front desk people are UNPARALLELED!Bravo TVAC👍💛A great place for over our last 25 years. Starting to get a little crowded unless you pick an odd time such as 1300 on a weekday, before 0830 on weekends, and right at lunchtime on weekends... so, unless youre retired, weekdays will be crowded. The Valley DOES do what it can to minimize crowding, but there are times when its just going to be jammed. So in all fairness Ill add this. They HAVE done a good job of keeping rates down, (ours is under inflation rate over 25 years) and I realize this might be difficult without a certain level of membership increases. And its a large facility. There IS such a thing as carrying capacity, however. 😉Locker room TVs:Considering investing in a universal remote for sabotage if soap operas and infomercials keep being shown...In the end, this place is not just a place to lift or swim or do yoga. Its a community
