We had complications of membership period for my son who will go to college soon. I made an appointment with manger James Pearson and he was very reasonable to talk to. Finally, we reached agreements between us. It was very nice management and customer care. Way to go Gold Gym~~.
Ive been going to Golds Olney for a decade now and its a solid gym. They did a pretty big renovation maybe 5-6 years ago, and have updated equipment at least twice since then. Overall, staff are friendly and helpful, Leneta wishes me happy morning every day I come in.The Saturday yoga is usually busy and peak times can be crowded, but this is the case for pretty much every gym in existence.
Horrible experience. The management is terrible. They force you into a contact that is nearly impossible to get out of, and I called to contact the manager 3 times. The staff is programed to automatically say the manager is in a meeting, when in reality he/she is just sitting in that office. After the third call I drove there to speak with the management team. They could not even answer any of my questions, and claimed there legacy team needed to handle the cancellation of my membership. NOTE: APPARENTLY NONE OF THERE STAFF CAN CANCEL YOUR CONTRACT. ONLY THE MANAGER(S) CAN, BUT THEY ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTACT.
I have been a member of this gym for a long time; back in the Fitness First Days! The staff are friendly and it feels like a small community gym where everyone knows you. I recently started using the gym again since the whole COVID situation and I have to say this place is spotless! I like that fact that some of the members went to the new place in town. It means NO crowds; which I can appreciate given the climate. Glad my home gym is still a family friendly place with a clean safe environment.
Pros: 🏆Its open 🙆♂️It is a big gym 🍆Nice equipment 🏋️Brand new equipment 🎀Large selection 🔢Hammer strength 💪Free weights 🏋️♂️150 lbs dumbells 🏋️Machines ⚙️Classes (not during covid) 🤸♂️Multiple abdominal machines ⚙️(lower, upper, obliques)Decent price $ 💵2 hour parking 🅿Friendly staff 🤗Clean floors 👍Helpful front desk 🤗Cons:Could use a few more beach/incline press 🤷🏻♂️Overall nice gym, variety is the key to long-term success in the gym and you get that here.No matter how you look at it, the $29 a month is my suggestion. This is a new location thus new equipment. It is one of the bigger Golds in the area (Rockville, silver Spring). If you like the review and/or the photos/videos, please hit like 👍 below to let me know, it is much appreciated 😊.
Excellent value for me. They made it through. Hopefully they can add more classes
If I could give this gym negative stars I would. Since the pandemic started, I have been trying to postpone/cancel my membership and this gym has done everything in its power to make that as difficult as possible. They rarely answer the phone when you call. If they do answer the phone, the right person is not there (they’re never there) to postpone your membership...it’s absurd. Maybe that’s all gyms but I’ve found the experience with the Olney Gold’s gym to be particularly frustrating. In mid-December, I went in person to fill out paper work to cancel my membership and yet I’m still being billed in February. This place is shady. I do not recommend signing up with them. My old roommate actually warned me about signing up with them. I wish I had listened to her. There are plenty of gyms in the area, don’t waste your time/money at this one.
Gossipy and arrogant. I didnt have personal trainers and will never have one as I can train myself better than they can do. They are also expensive and I observed that their exercise recommendations are kind of Mickey Mouse. Much of the staff at the desk are quite amenable but once in a while you will encounter a Gestapo, one ready to bark at you for no reason whatsoever. Also watch out for your belongings, it can be quickly stolen. Of course this also happens in other gyms. However, I was willing to bite the bullet for the sake of my exercising. I finally left Gold Gym because it didnt have a swimming pool. I will move to a gym with salty water as hard chemicals in the pool can trigger laryngitis. I also wanted to perfection my butterfly moves--its so much fun. I always was a water aficionado since my teenage time.
I have been a member here for about a year and I couldnt be happier. Great, friendly and knowledgeable staff, very clean and keeping up with Covid safety measures, a great variety of modern equipment and excellent classes/instructors. I also recently joined the Golds Fit program and am so happy with the strength and endurance Ive gained in such a short amount of time.
Golds gym in Olney is amazing everyone is friendly the gym is one of the best amazing classes once you enter the gym you feel so welcome when looking around an seeing otherDoing there workout you feel motivated as you are doing your
I have been enjoying my membership here and recommend this gym, they keep the place very clean and it’s never too crowded which is so nice
Closes at 6 pm on the weekend. how pathetically inconvenient. also makes you go in person if you want to cancel your membership, rather than letting you do it over the phone DURING COVID. do better.
Golds gym is following all the COVID-19 restrictions and maintaining a very sanitized environment to workout in. No complaints.
I wouldnt recommend this gym. When Golds in Columbia MD (Gateway) closed, we cancelled our memberships since they were transferring their remaining members to Olney. There was apparently a clerical error resulting in our memberships getting transferred and we have been trying to reach their (Olney) member services for nearly eight months. We left our number (for both me and my husbands accounts) repeatedly and could not get them to call us back. They turned this over to a credit agency and we are in the process of disputing over 11 months of gym membership for a gym who wouldnt return phone calls, is over an hour from our house, and we havent set foot in once.
It is very clean. The staff sprays the machines. People also spray as well. People wear their masks. I feel comfortable and safe working out here.
This “franchise” or whatever you want to call it is horrible! I was a member in Elkridge- who closed its doors during the pandemic and didn’t notify a single member! Such poor taste. Than yesterday i look on my account statements and see a charge from Golds Gym in olney. I live an hour from this gym, never been to this gym in my life, never gave them my credit info! You best believe I am reporting this as fraud because it is. I never signed up or agreed to go to this gym! Shame on you for passing credit card info to each other! Will never join another one of your gyms even if it means paying more for a membership elsewhere!
I was a member of the golds gym in Elkridge and they closed back in March/April. Instead of letting their customers know about it they just transferred all the memberships to Olney. I did not even realize Elkridge closed until I got a charge on my account from golds gym in Olney. I called Olney and they said oh yeah, Elkridge just transferred all memberships over. How is that even legal? I did not approve the transfer or the charge. They should not even have my bank account information. I called the Olney gym to cancel and get a refund last month. I was told it would be taken care of. BUT Not only did they not cancel my membership and give the refund, they charged me again this month. I called again last week to make sure they cancelled it. They did not. I called again today and they were less than helpful. Worst customer service. There were no notes on my account from the previous two phone calls I had made. They said they will put in a request for the refund but that they are not taking responsibility for the charges and that customer care will most likely not refund it. I have been a golds member for 5 years and I have never been more disappointed.
They had one dude working here that kept falling asleep at the desk. But it seems like he isn’t here anymore. Well maintained equipment, just wish the TVs were easier to operate.
The absolute worst customer service. Cancelled my membership earlier this year and come to find this week that they sent me to collections?? Incendiary and unacceptable. Terrible company.
New bathrooms and a lot for sale in the lobby. I use the spin bikes and rowing machines. The only decent spin bikes are in the classroom and there are classes there almost every day I go. I asked about decent spin bikes in the main room, the ones there are old and dont work well, and was told they would work on it. When I got in yesterday both rowing machines were gone with no explanation. Canceling my membership. It is probably fine if you want to lift weights or use a stair master.
Really not professional, the manger Deshawn larrimore, not professional, she charge me over, over extra money, now refund time, she say I am not deal with accounting, they charge me 25 time, I am not even there member, this gym is ripoff people, she don’t solve the problem, she hang up, I am gone take this issue to law enforcement, thanks for not communication with me .
Everyone is always very nice and helpful. The bathrooms and equipment are always clean. They are open super early during the week and have a day care center that I can leave my kids at while I work out. Which is awesome because I dont always have someone go watch them and i enjoy working out.
Its very nice, clean, and there are plenty of machines. Overall, I had a great experience. Only reason I say four stars is because I had called ahead to see if the studio was free and they said yes when it wasnt. I ended up taking a class, which was good, but not why I had gone specifically to that gym (my closest gym is 20 min away).
Great place for a good workout! Can be crowded in the evenings. Early mornings and mid-mornings to mid-afternoons are less crowded. The Golds Fit program is really awesome. There is an additional fee for this program, but there are other opportunities to work with a trainer for free
It is a decent gym. The equipment works and the staff is nice.We hired a trainer and he seemed capable.
I will never join another Golds Gym again. Im a student that goes to college out of the state of Maryland and I am only in town during the summer months. Last year they had a summer promotion of making one payment for the three months of June-August which was very nice since Id be going back to school after that time period. Well what they didnt notify me of was that after the promotion was over, your subscription will roll over to a monthly membership instead of being frozen again like before you bought into their promotion... they might have told me that i would have to refreeze my account after the promotion was over and i probably forgot by the time three busy months went by. but I just realized that I have been paying the 40 dollars a month for the past 7 months... As I told them that i have not been in the area since august and should have my 280 dollars refunded since i have not put any wear and tear on the machines(probably what the fee is suppose to cover), they basically said its not their fault i signed up for a membership i was not going to use stating Its basically the same thing as ordering a magazine subscription and not reading the magazines and demanding your money back. ha ha its more like ordering A singular magazine and the magazine company automatically signing you up for a monthly subscription AND sending the magazines to a house that is not yours and then saying not our fault you didnt get the chance to read the magazines. Yes I probably should have caught on to these payments faster and surprised I have not, but it isnt something i was looking for on my statements.Other than that i used to love that gym, lots of equipment, always welcomed at the front desk, kind people, good environment. HORRIBLE company.
FYI, I went to look into a membership, they require you to fill out a Guest form at their computer based kiosk. The form requires your Name, address, DoB, e-mail and phone with no indication what they would do with it or if they would sell your info. I told the person at the desk I was not comfortable providing all this info and was told I could not see a membership person, it is their policy. With no other options I walked out. The facility looks nice (from what I could see from the door), its packed full of people all day.
This is really just a suggestion for Golds overall - Put up some signage asking members to refrain from resting on any equipment they arent actively exercising on, especially between sets! Its so easy to step off or away from a machine and tell anyone that approaches that they are welcomed to work sets in with you. That is the lost gym etiquette that was standard before chain gyms took over the landscape.
This is the Golds Gym location that all the other locations wish they could be. Wintergreen comes in at a close second, but Olney is the best!
Joined the gym 3 months ago, friendly staff and modern equipment.Really I love this gym and I can see my fitness dreams are coming true.
I love the employees there. The gym is large and has several workout areas. A huge area of cardio equipment. A spin room, aerobic studio, and an entire floor dedicated to weight lifting and the best part the Golds Fit work out room.
Cardio equipment would take a while to get serviced and they would reserve the nicer equipment for specific classes (golds fit)
I love Golds in Olney. Theyre constantly updating their equipment. The gym is really clean. They have the best customer service!
Love this place. Its my home for my workouts
Great facility with great equipment and friendly staff.Stan is a great guy that works behind the desk tell him Phil and Kathy said hello.
No punching bag? How can a gym not have a punching bag? And the gym is huge. Certainly you can find a place to put one. The golds gym Im with here in Simi valley California has two large punching bags, a boxing ring and a speed bag. Cmon guys lets get back to what the word gym really means and get with a the program. a boxing workout is so important to so many peoples routine.
The new treadmills are NOT CD Player friendly. I tried placing my CD player on one of the shelves and after 5 minutes it fell off and shattered on the floor. Now Im out a CD player because some idiot thought theyd buy the newest treadmills without thinking how they might accomodate everyone. Ive also notice there is no Contact Us option on the website anymore or any suggestion box in the gyms themselves. Obviously serving the patrons and making things convenient for us all is just too difficult a task .
Out of Towner visiting family in the area. The gym is nice and big. Lots of equipment seems to be a lot of classes. I would say the staff and the other gym goers are not that friendly.
My wife and I recently came in for a guest pass and was rudely greeted from an employee named Stan we asked what we needed to do for the pass and he was rude and scoffed at us. Since we just moved in together my license still showed my va address when stan exclaimed “oh you can’t do it” and made my wife do it. Stab seemed bothered and annoyed that two people of colored would enter his gym. Stan took every opportunity to talk us out of signing up. Stan showed no interest in practicing good customer service. I’m glad that Stan showed us how this Golds gym represents itself to save us from signing up in the future.
Golds has many options for keeping fit at nearly any age. There are many machines, stretching options, cross fit, and classes. They have just replaced a lot of equipment, but fortunately they kept some of my old favorites.
This location has continued to decline 15 or so years. they send out regular surveys but nothing changes. the past two managers emailed me about my concerns on my survey. they wanted to meet me to discuss. i told them i am there everyday at opening. their responses were almost identical, i dont start until 10 am. they never responded back. it shows that there is not a responsible party, especially at opening. front desk is now inconsistent in opening times, and personality. gym is a mess. dumbbells are falling apart and dumbbells and free weights are everywhere. they continue to divide the gym into premium member areas (golds fit, boot camp, etc) and lock any new equipment in these locations. these premium classes also takes away square footage from regular members and pushes more people into an already crowded space. if there were any options in olney, i would be there.
Lay out is open. Plenty of room between equipment. Clean. Good staff
This is a good gym by most any standards. It has very heavy weights with some dumbbells going as heavy as 180lbs. There is a room for CrossFit, aeorbics and spinning. Even a dedicated open room for kettlebells that is perfect for trainers. They also have a stretch machine. Its just a great gym with dedicated parking and friendly people that workout there.
No stars, not even the one I had to select - Charged fees that I did not sign up for and after no less than 10 calls, I walked in to discuss the charges. No surprise the person I needed to talk to wasnt there - Im guessing she is never there because my phone calls were not returned even the in person request I made. After about 5 months, my cancellation has finally been completed.
Don’t event think about trying to go To this gym after work its filled with high schoolers spending hours on every piece of equipment. Went in before work and they closed down the Womens showers with no accommodations. HAd to go home immediately to shower just so I’d get to work on time
I went to golds gym in olney tonight they charged me $15. I asked when it went up she said well over a year ago I told her I paid 10 bucks 2 months ago. She was a real horror show in every way imaginable includng her rudeness. I almost felt like she didnt want to deal with taking my. For that matter the computer didnt work and it took her about 20 tries basically to get me in the system. . Also they have an antiquated system where the customer sprays some sort of ammonia product on a paper towel to clean the machines. Just crazy...There are other gyms in the area I will try them dont waste your money here
I want to become a member of Golds Gym Olney, but doing so is such a convoluted process I question if its worth it. You advertise $0 enrollment, but when I speak to your sales people, you say you cannot give that to me. My sister is currently researching other gyms and workout places for me to go to in Olney that are cheaper and more fun than your place. Not to mention your staff act like they run a scam. Since google doesnt let me attach a link with this review, Ive shared the link on my facebook profile to your December $0 enrollment special. Youve promised me $0 enrollment and have not delivered.
Good equipment, well managed, skilled trainers who can help in most situations.
I love coming here. Best classes, friendly members....
The staff works very hard to make sure you feel comfortable and at home.
Has all the equipment most people will ever need. Best times are first thing in morning and midafternoon.
This is a great gym, sometimes crowded in the later hours and could use a few more squat racks but otherwise clean and the staff is friendly.
A bit pricey but worth it
Excellent facilities. The staff is above top notch.
Staff are nice but gym is tiny and weights are never organized where they should be. Quite expensive for the value.
Too many people not working out. Not the best place to throw around heavy weight
Nice gym u can find here everything.
Great coaching staff, and very clean facilities.
Great gym. Ceilings are high enough to give an open feeling, but not so high as to be a warehouse. Locker rooms have just been refurbished and are terrific. Huge selection of machines, free weights, the odd-stuff (bosa balls, stretch bands, swiss balls, etc), and classes. Instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. You can either chat with others on the treadmills or wear ear phones with your mp3 and go about your business. I can get into the spin room between classes and ride the spin bikes, which are very nice. A little crowded on Saturday morning and Monday evenings, but I work my schedule around those times. Nice aerobic room with windows, large and open.I pay a very low fee each month. Parking is adequate, shopping centers are next door for breakfast, lunch and dinner at salad bars. Open during the worst of the snow days. Ive been to the other Golds gyms at locations of Rockville, North Potomac, Arlington, Alexandria, Washington DC, Gaithersburg and Germantown. I like the Olney gym the best.Im very, very satisfied with the gym. I recommend it highly.
Going to the gym can be a daunting experience. Some of the more common concerns I allowed to stop me from actively using a gym membership include finding the internal motivation to leave my comfortable house and presuming that I have to be fit already to go to the gym or risk being the punch line of jokes in the locker room.If anyone has ever felt like me before, I have good news! Golds Gym in Olney, MD has been an overwhelmingly positive experience since the day I signed up for a membership. The front desk staff was cheerful and helpful, which set the tone for my overall impression of Golds in Olney. I was, then, introduced to the general manager, Trisha Nordstrom, who was kind, incredibly knowledgeable, and thorough in her presentation of all Golds Gym in Olney had to offer a Law & Order fan like me. After an impressive tour of this newly renovated, beautiful facility, we sat in her office and I disclosed my concerns. She listened and helped me create a workout plan for myself that was realistic and lessened my anxiety about going to the gym in the first place.Since then, Ive become a regular at Golds Gym in Olney. The cheerful attitude I encounter when checking in at the front desk always starts my gym session off on the right foot. I, then, pass Trishas office on the way to the locker room and get a friendly hello (or smile if shes with another customer/client). The gym staff responsible for monitoring the equipment and keeping the gym in good condition have been more than willing to sit with me and teach me to use machines and equipment that used to frighten me. As a result of becoming a Golds Olney member, I can now tell people that I live an active lifestyle. If you havent met the staff at Golds or seen the beautiful facility yet, take a moment to stop by--you wont regret it!
Need more benefits....as Bowie. Exercise with a free guest, if you have the expensive membership as here in Olney.
Nice building no one puts things back
Easily the best gym Ive ever belonged to!
Great classes, great instructors for Kickboxing, TBC, Bang!, Step
The equipment looks like its from the 1970s; its pretty depressing; def not standard for a Golds; would not recommend this location
Good gym but often packed
Poor customer service, many calls unanswered by Trish the manager. We had to call another gym staff to resolve cancellation of membership.
Good work out
TV CHANNELS ARE OUTDATED! NO LIVE GAMES!
My trainer, Sarah is amazing.
Courteous and professional staff.
Staff means well but ?
Good for working out
I love this gym
Dirty, poor customer service.
Friendly staff.
Same as it ever was.
I endorse Golds Gym Olney
Trainers are BAE AF
