Reserved a car twice and drove all the way up there for them to tell me they either didnt have any cars or the only car they had was a minivan and was altogether $600 a day? 3 hertz locations all ripping people off. They let you make reservations and then tell you they have no more cars or you have to get the most expensive thing on the lot.

Continuing on my last review, I tried to exchange the car I was not happy with. Spent two hours on the phone calling three different locations, multiple calls to 1-800 number, and lots of time on hold. Literally everyone had a different story. Finally drove to airport because they did not answer their phone and a nice young man exchanged it for a great car. Yes, it ended well, but customer service was lacking.

Jacqueline needs to be FIRED immediately. The most disgusting excuse for a human being I’ve ever dealt with in customer service. She was rude, spiteful, extremely unprofessional and unhelpful. This poor excuse of a human being should not have a job in customer service. What a disaster this “business” is.If there was an option to leave zero stars I would. This is the most poorly run operation in the Charleston airport. 90% of the employees are incompetent and have no idea what they are talking about. All of them have a different answer. Especially the “manager” named Alex, who was missing from his desk for 15+ minutes. I had to tell another customer how to go find his car after finding his name on the board. How these people even have a job is beyond comprehension. Only 2 people I spoke to, during the hour and a half process, were actually nice, wish I got their names. From the front desk inside the airport to the garage to pick up the car this was the most backwards process. Hertz needs to reevaluate their hiring process when looking into these employees. I will never again rent with Hertz because of this. Rent a car from ANY other company.DISGUSTING!

If I could give zero stars, I would! This isnt necessarily reflective of the CHS location, but part of the fault does lie with them. It also lies with Hertz itself!! Beware if you have ANY ISSUES with your rental, reaching a person who can help may be nearly impossible!1 - When we picked up our rental, we noted several scratches & damage. We asked 2 different attendants, and both basically shrugged and told us to take pictures in case we had to contest anything. NO customer service to make us feel assured!2 - See above for more! About 45 minutes after leaving with our rental car, the check engine light went on. We checked the engine oil and shockingly discovered the oil level on the dipstick BARELY went over the edge of the end. We also noticed that the windshield wiper fluid tank was bone dry. Both should be essential parts of any regular vehicle maintenance!3 - After that discovery, we spent over 2 hours mostly on hold trying to reach someone at Hertz to help us. I tried the CHS location, Roadside Assistance menu option, and a variety of other menu options. One person told us we just had to exchange it at a local location and it would be swapped out no problem. I asked for them to check into availability, and they said all they could help me with was telling me just to show up. We called the closest location - they had no cars and could not help. I then attempted to reach someone else and was NEVER able to reach another live person who could help! Even by calling our original rental location, I was never able to reach a live person!4 - We ended up getting back on the road and drove to another larger rental location that was along our route. When I explained the situation, luckily they were able to swap out our car. HOWEVER, Ive now been charged a gas cost because we didnt fill up the tank on the CAR WITHOUT OIL! We were happy to just get there!5 - Our departure plans changed, and we needed to drop the car off earlier than expected, and earlier than the listed business hours at our location. I again spent OVER 3 HOURS trying to reach a live person who could tell me if the location we were dropping the car allowed after-hours drop-offs!! It was impossible to reach someone at the actual rental location at all times!Due to the lack of customer service, I will NEVER rent from Hertz again! This was inexcusable!!

I booked both a economy and luxury rental for two different rates, as the current situation makes rental cars scarce. I stopped at the front desk to confirm which car I would receive and the clerk told me “presidents circle”. I asked about economy and he said “presidents circle”. So I asked him to cancel the luxury rate and charge me economy. He said they do that at check out. Ok. At check out they told me they couldn’t see which reservation rate was used and had to guess. They picked wrong and couldn’t override. I then at drop off was told to call gold member service. After four days of being on hold gold members service told me they could not fix anything. I hd a similar situation with National as an executive elite and they resolved on a single call. If there is a manager at the local office please reach out to me to resolve, but it’s rather embarrassing that a customer tried to get ahead of a hassle and the hertz team dropped the ball.

I do not recommend renting a car for this location. I prepaid for my reservation and called this Hertz location to tell them that I would be an hour late to pick up the car. This is when the gentleman on the phone told me that he had given my car away and that I could upgrade to a bigger car and pay the difference. I said no and that I wanted my money back. The man continued to tell me that he could not refund my prepaid car and that I would have to call corporate to get my money back. Who knew that if you prepaid for a car that it would be given away AND you would have to take extra steps to get your money back. Avoid this place at all costs!

If I could give zero stars I would. This was my first time renting from Hertz and you best believe it is my last. I am an individual who has a disability and I was traveling with my 7 year old grandson and upon receiving my rental I ask if there was anyone that could help me with placing my scooter in the back of the SUV I was told a big fat NO! ok so my grandson & I located the rental and it was back in with a concrete barrier behind it therefore I was not able to open the rear hatch to attempt putting in my scooter so I located a nice young man and his wife asking if he could possibly put the suv forward so I can load my scooter. Not only did he pull it forward he also put my scooter in for me. There are still nice people in the world. Sir if you were picking up a rental on Friday June 18 around 7 pm thank you so much for your kindness and May God Bless you and your wife.

My family and I rented a car on 6/6 -6/13 which was a little over $500.00 that was not cleaned thoroughly . I found drugs in the car, called Hertz to notify them of the situation which they told me they would send roadside out to get the car and swap it for another, I don’t know what happen with the phone but I was unable to reach anyone. I then pulled up the nearest hertz which was in Sumter S.C. only to find out there is no hertz there. So I ended up keeping the car. My flight was cancelled I tried calling to reserve for another day was unable to get in contact with anyone I returned the car at around 5 am and charged me $103.00 With that being said it don’t even matter about the charges I would say CHECK YOUR CARS BEFORE RENTING IT!!! MAKE SURE IT IS CLEANED!!!!!! MAKE SURE THEY DON’T HAVE DRUGS IN YOUR RENTAL CAR!! What if my kids got a hold of it? What if I got pulled over????? So many questions. HERTZ CLEAN YOUR VEHICLES!!!!

Do not rent from them unless you have to. Do not use a debit card (I had no choice at the time) I returned my vehicle on the 29th and because their employees did not check the car in properly they continued to charge a hold on my card for $125 EACH day after for three days straight. I was unable to access $375 of my own money bacause they were slow at pushing some buttons. Customer service is useless in these cases. I contacted them a couple times and all they could do is send an email to the branch I rented from and there is no HR or Corperate to complain to. Horrible experience. As I am typing they realeased 2 of the holds and sent a receipt but there is still one hold pending in my account.. be careful guys..the car was nice and clean tho

Impossible to find. Hertz needs to update their maps and signage. Directions took us to a road that was closed and inaccessible. No one (airport employees) seemed to know where this place was, we were told to “follow the signs” except there were none, just the “rental car return” which we went to and were unable to be helped there either. After driving around the area for over half an hour my partner had to get out on foot and travel a considerable distance (still no signage) to find the place. I’m not even sure if there is a way to access this business by personal vehicle, which is ridiculous. Not everyone renting a car comes straight from the airport. The whole experience was extremely stressful and set us way behind in our schedule, not just inconvenient, Hertz needs to do better.

Rude employee, dont use this location.While most of the employees at this location where friendly and helpful. One employee (not sure his name, but desk clerk in the Hertz rental lot) ruined this experience for me and would cause me to not return to this Herz location. We first rented a car and within 15 minutes of leaving the airport, noticed a massive ant infestation in the vehicle. After returning to exchange the vehicle, we were met with rude and unprofessional service when leaving the lot with an identical vehicle.

I arrived at midnight. This Hertz desk was closed. No one in sight. I had a reservation too. The other two rental desks (Avis/Enterprise) were still open serving their customers. I had to fend for myself dragging my bags all the way back to the terminal catching an Uber at 12:30. Thanks for nothing Hertz...again.

Main rental desk was backed-up so we were directed to the garage to pick up our vehicle. The gentleman took a while to find our reservation and eventually found it and took our credit card for incidentals. After an hour of waiting, we were finally given our vehicle. Returned our vehicle 2 hours ahead of time, got home, and found that we were charged twice for the rental. Hertz refuses to refund the additional rental.

The experience started out great. I arrived and showed the lady my ID. She handed me the rental agreement with the keys. She didnt say anything after that. My car car was very clean and I had minimal contact with anyone.Their business hours say 7:00am-12:30am. I brought my car back at 12:15am, thinking it would be a simple drop off. My boyfriend drove in right behind me, not thinking...there are literally NO SIGNS at all. We were stuck inside of there for over an hour, waiting for a manager.She arrived and had the worst attitude. I didnt speak to her, but her actions made it obvious.Which I could understand if there were SIGNS that stated NO PERSONAL VEHICLES. But there WERE NOT.

Ok.... we reserved and confirmed a car for pick up in Mt Pleasent. We took an Uber ($60) to the location... and it left as we walked to the building.... the location was closed. Permanently.... called and called ... 1-800... the put us on hold for 45 min... never answered. We finally got ahold of the N.Charleston location. They said sorry.. you are out of luck. I got ahold of a managet... he sent a car yo get us (45min).. then took us back to N.C. to get car (45 min)... we got a car and had to drive back to Mt. Pleasent... HORRIBLE. STILL NO WORD FROM CORPORATE. RIDDICULOUS. I have been a HERTZ customer for 15 years... NEVER AGAIN.

My husband rented a car from Hertz for about a week. The truck was dirty and smelled nasty. He was told it was 167 and some cents. When he returned the truck he not only got charged the 167ish but an extra 83 dollars, when he called to ask what the charge was the response was I dont know and theres no a manager you can talk with. I guess no one in Hertzs knows what customer service means.

HERTZ SHOWING SIGNS OF BANKRUPTCYI just rented a car from Charleston Aiport from Oct 9 to 12. I have been a Gold member of Hertz for a few yeats now and have never had issues like this. I reserved a full size car months ago. When I arrived I was told by counter person that they had a Jeep Wrangler for me. As I am older with back issues I explained I would like a car. She called her manager who pretty much said it was the Jeep, large Ford SUV, or nothing at all. I thought that was rude. I took the Ford. Halfway driving to Columbia the remnants of Hurricane Delta came thru dumping heavy rain. Of course the wiper blades were shot. Dangerous! The next issue was the tire low pressure light came on. We pulled to the side and tried calling Hertz roadside assistance. What a joke. We waited on hold for 1 hour 15 minutes and call was disconnected. We drove to a gas station and put air in it. When we finally got to hotel I called 2 more times killing another 2 hours. When someone finally answered they explained that they were busy and it would be up to me to have car towed someplace and my responsibility to purchase new tire. Sorry and hung up. I have never had this kind of service and shabby cars from Hertz. I would rather pay more and use Hertz than discount sites. Maybe its time to go elsewhere. I welcome a response from Hertz!

This is the 3rd time Ive flown into CHS and on both occasions Hertz have been amazing. The head office would do well to learn from Diane and her co-workers. The first time I had a problem with head office over an extended stay that was handled with zero drama at the desk in the airport. Also when my flight arrived late, and most of the airport was closed, someone from Hertz stayed to make sure I got my car.This last trip, with all the Covid 19 pandemic, the service was courteous, no need to take my card, just pass me the keys and go. Why cant all customer service be like this? Thank you

I am a Presidential Circle member with Hertz. It took me over ten years of constant travel and being loyal to Hertz to make it to that tier. In October of 2019, I rented a vehicle from Charleston International Airport using my points. When I arrived they offered me a vehicle I could have rented from the Summerville branch using much less points. They finally upgraded me to a luxury SUV but it was going to cost me an additional $12-14 day. I agreed and I was told that a charge of $378 was going to show up on my credit card but will be removed within 5 working days after returning the vehicle. After returning the vehicle, I waited 10 working days and the charges were still on my credit card. I have spoken to 3-4 representatives and one Gold Hertz Representative PROMISED to contact me back because she was handling my case. Never heard back from anyone! I have tried calling the Charleston International Airport several times and the system just routed me back to the main auto- phone system.I will no longer waste my time trying to get this resolved and I have taken my business to Enterprise Car Rental where they have treated me with great customer service. (Jan 20, 2020 update) Not one customer service representative called me. Instead they responded by instant Messenger. Very poor and unprofessional.Thanks- James Watson

Get to the front and am told nobody has any cars tonight well thank you for wasting my time. This was the second time I have come here and they run out of cars. Rented a car for my son’s graduation. My 10 ear old daughter forgot her winter coat in it when we returned it. We went back a couple of hours later only to have them tell us it wasn’t there. I was charged a surprise “recovery” fee so someone cleaned the car and obviously helped themselves to her coat. No effort by anyone to try to find it. I will never rent from this company again.

Hertz is the worst I travel for work a decent amount and recommend any other rental over Hertz. I will never use them again. They are extremely hard to deal with if you ever want to use points and they find ways to add charges on my bill every time I rent. They also charged me $30 for a toll charge and I still had to pay for the toll. Stay away and use someone else. Also their point expire every year and you have to make a reservation at least 24 hours ahead and it has to be over the phone and their customer service sucks and you can never get ahold of anyone

I rented a luxury prestige car and prepaid for it. When i arrived I was greeted by a rude and bothered agent, Tonia. Despite being a hertz gold member she was extremely put off it seemed to have to help me. She very matter of factly said okay we have this car for you, which was a downgrade from what i paid for. I explained to her what i rented and she without hesitation put me on the phone with her manager Anna (i believe) who was just as rude and simply said we dont have that class of car for you here. neither offered an alternative option. i requested a refund for the difference and was told since i used mileage plus that they couldnt do anything for me. since i had to be at a meeting i had to take the lesser car. i am still waiting for the situation to be rectified. By the way when i went into the parking lot i saw that they did have cars in the prestige class.

Go with Enterprise!! Do not rent or return to this location! I dropped off a car, and the women greeted me, took the keys and told me she would send me a copy of my receipt. 3 days later I am still being charged for the car at a higher rate. Calling into Customer service for this company will just have you running in circles without anyone who can actually resolve the issue. Worst rental experience I’ve had thus far.

When the woman explained that a debit card could not be used, and because I was local and didnt have a flight itinerary, she was cold and uncaring when I was standing in front of her crying. There was nothing she could do to help me and I recognized that but her and the manager were heartless, and gave nothing but the standard, dry answer repeatedly. A little compassion and consideration for other human beings goes a long way.

Prepaid and reserved a car in advance - arrived to discover people had been waiting 2+ hours for a car... we’re still waiting on a car. We moved from San Francisco to Charleston and flew in with our two cats - which is a long day of travel for them. We rented a car because we knew we would need to immediately go to Petco upon arrival before we headed to our new house. I know things happen and sometimes things are out of our control but this is absolutely unacceptable. We will not being renting a car through Hertz again.

AVOID HERTZ! I left an item in my car and there is absolutely no way to speak to a real person about it. I even tried to report a lost item over an automated system but never received a response from Hertz. Why is it so hard to return a lost item? Does Hertz not care about repeat business? Congrats Hertz! This location lost you a Gold club member.I booked online hoping to waltz through the check-in process. After a 13 hour flight, I ended up having to wait in line (behind 2 other patrons) for about 30 minutes. You had two people on duty, one decided to do paperwork while staring at everyone in line. I asked her if perhaps she would like to help everyone but no, [her] manager wants her to do this paperwork (from a returned broken car). Great. Excellent customer service.On top of that, I was informed that I could pay for gas when I returned only to find out upon my return that I had paid for a full tank of gas and stupidly returned it with a half-tank. So you all 1) overcharged for gas (which I was okay with thinking Id only have to pay for what Id used and 2) got to double dip as the unused gas was not returned.The best part, was the simple fact that if I hadnt paid ahead of time online, I could have waltzed over to any of the other 5 companies here that had no one in line and looked a lot more customer friendly.#hertzneveragain

The workers were very friendly and its a good thing. One of the most poorly run rental sites I’ve ever visited. I got a text from Hertz telling me my car was ready and was a Nissan Altima. I showed up and was told there were no cars ready. I ended up with a tiny Nissan car. It was clean and fueled up but it took over half an hour of standing at the counter to get this little tin can vehicle.

The pick up was ok, bit of a wait at the desk, and service could have been with a smile but ok. The car was nice. Upon return the was nobody to check in with, so I walked to the counter. Then the bill that was sent by email charges us for a day too much. Getting somebody in the line to correct that took 5 phone calls and 40 minutes. Not impressed.

The lady at the counter was nice and the transaction went well at first. The problem is that she gave us information that turned out to be false, which is that even if we initially booked a car until 7:00pm same day, we could drop it off the day after because it was a 24-hour rental.Hertz charged us 12$ fee for late return, which wasnt the case, because we decided to bring back the car the day after.The poor lady at the 1-800 number had to follow stupid directions and they offered, after much arguing, to either mail a gift card (no way to get it by pdf even if were on a trip...) or to reduce the fee at 6$.Wasnt that much money, but for the mistake from the woman at the counter, the principle of getting charged for nothing and the stupid customer service over the phone, I am quite dissatisfied.

Lost a $150 curling iron, left on the back seat of a car rental last month. We were late for the flight and just didnt look. It was white against a black interior and impossible to miss. Must have been liberated by whoever checked the car in or whoever cleaned the car. Our Lost and Found reports the next day never got a response. Calls to the Hertz desk at the Charleston Airport go unanswered.I guess this Gold status for 15 years isnt worth much. We just called there with an insurance question, and were told that they didnt deal with insurance rentals. That sounded reasonable, since they are conjoined with the airport. However, the woman I spoke to was rude, inarticulate, and without any common courtesy. She hung up on me when she decided we were done; I couldnt even thank her for the information, poorly as it was given. If people at Hertz are going to treat us that way, Ill gladly go to Enterprise in stead.

Todays experience at Hertz Counter in CHS airport was beyond horrendous, appalling and reason to NEVER use Hertz again!ANNA KRENZER - the MANAGER no less - is to thank for that. (Would like to say my experience just 2 wks ago with Hertz was smooth and seamless). In fact, as part time residents of SC for the last 6 yrs. weve NEVER had an issue with any of the rental car companies or agents.After another agent spent 10-15 minutes failing to sort out a prepaid reservation my husband (Gold Plus Member which clearly means nothing) made for me, I was told to call Hertz Customer Service from the counter while she waited on other customers. Wasted more time speaking to 3 different agents - cell coverage was terrible to add to the frustration - who told me matter needed to be handled by agent at the desk who sat there shaking her head and doing nothing.She turned to ask ANNA a question and thats when this rude, surly, overbearing woman - who acted far too busy to even be bothered - began speaking to me in her Im in charge here tone. If youre in charge here ANNA then resolve the issue and let me get on my way. Did you make any attempt to do that? No.In the almost 30 minutes I was standing there you were barely cordial to your customers. Funny youre in the customer service business but do nothing to make the experience smooth AND audibly make sarcastic remarks directly to and about one of YOUR COMPANYS CUSTOMERS - that would be me. What a disgrace..

Waited in line for about 30 minutes - while gold customers just kept waltzing up and getting served infront of the basic customers who had been there forever. Quite the negative client experience. Confusing how they ever thought this was a good idea.

Slowest worker ever. Theres a difference between hospitality and having 18 people in line with one worker and having casual chats with everyone who comes through and playing tour guide. Just check out the cars so we dont have to wait for over an hour just to rent a car. If I hadnt prepaid I would have switched to another company

Awful service, the reception wasnt helpful at all and made me wait for 45 min to get the car without notifying any updates. The price they asked was much higher from what I booked on Hertz website (use valid university student coupon), and they didnt give any reason why the price changed.This is the my last time using Hertz.

I have a debit card that also reads as a credit card but because THEIR machine doesnt read my card as credit, I have to have a round trip ticket for debit. I am doing a local rental and took an Uber to the airport. I had to find another rental, which cost me much more money because of it being last minute.

We arrived at 1 in the morning to find out that our Thrifty rental was no longer available as the 2 hour window had elapsed after our flight was delayed by 12 hours (I tried to call, it didnt connect, I wrote an email but they didnt answer - whats the point of me inputting my flight number if they dont even bother to track my flight to know I am arriving late???)Anyway, this review is about Hertz. We were frantically trying to figure out how the heck we would get to Hilton Head Island so we went over to the Hertz desk and Khadejah was able to get us a car (CHEAP) with no hassle (she didnt try to up-sell us 100 different types of insurance), was friendly and super efficient - we were out of there happy with a rental car in 5 minutes.Usually renting a car is so stressful and such a hassle for me, but I was 100% pleased with this experience. Returning the car was a breeze as well.Thanks Khadejah, you really saved our butts!!!

I had the worst service at this location. My flight got in right before midnight and all I wanted was to get my rental car. My biggest issue wasnt that I had to stand in line for 25 minutes, being passed by all the Hertz members, but that I was charged for an underage driver fee. My coworker, who was very obviously over 25, tried to show her drivers license and the girl told us there was no reason because my name was on the reservation. She had me sign for the potential charges and when I got back to the hotel room I noticed that over $60 was for me being an underage driver. I tried to call the location the next day with no answer so when I returned back home, I contacted corporate. I was told that it was my fault and they would only take half the charges off. They asked for my email address and said they would email the next receipt for me. I never received anything and its been over a month. I will NEVER rent with Hertz again and Enterprise will continue to get my business.

I had a terrible experience with the Charleston SC Airport location and also the 1800 customer service people, we have used hertz many times and i am really not sure i will be back after how rude and uncaring people are! first to start off the person was extremely rude when we got there she took forever and even better we told her please do not put the charge on this card because we need that money so the hold cannot go on that card she proceeded in doing it anyways after another 10 minutes of her having to change the entire reservation around and having to now take another card to get it properly situated. after waiting in line for at least 20 min prior very irritating situation. we returned our car that day and then we get no receipt EVER! so i check our credit card statement to see an additional $50 charge i called at hertz customer service the first person i spoke to gave me the wrong information and told me it was taxes and fees when i used the pay now feature and it should have only been $38 extra for taxes and fees well come to find out after a 40 minute conversation with him it was a late charge after we didnt bring the car back late they charged us another $16 with no notice or anyone even telling us.... this company is veryyy money hungry and thieves if you ask me $16 or $1000 doesnt matter you dont take money and not let a person know you are charging their card whether it is via email call or when they drop the car off totally uncalled for and do not appreciate it!

I rented a vehicle online as part of a package deal. The cost (with discount) was lower than their competitors, the vehicle- Nissan Sentra- drove well. Both the check in and curbside checkouts went without hitches. I will definitely consider Hertz if I need a future rental.

Worst location ever!! You would assume by the extremely stern looks on their faces that smiling is against company policy. I am a 5-Star Gold Member nearing Presidential and the rude moonface b— Brandi nearly turned me away and she would have if it were not for a manager approval!! I have rented at so many different locations with ZERO ISSUES including a rental at this location only 2 days prior. I can honestly say I will never rent here again. It was so disheartening to see agents at all the other rental counters being friendly smiling and greeting their customers! Please terminate them all and hire better Hertz!!
