Love Kates! The nachos are the best and our server was incredibly nice. It can get busy at times but sitting on the patio is always a great option if the weather is nice. I would definitely recommend grabbing lunch at Kates if you get the chance.

Grew up a Newark resident enjoying Klondike Kate’s. Enjoyed not only the food, but the friendly service and upbeat atmosphere.I am sad to say things have changed. Not only are the bouncers rude (I’m 32 with a Jersey ID) but the service is slow and the drinks are weak (I swear!) It saddens to me to see my old college hangout go downhill. While I can respect change, it’s clear Klondike Kate’s isn’t changing in a good way.Food has been slow, and the nachos are nowhere near I remember. Nowhere near the same standard of service we used to get. Additionally, bounces outside were unnecessarily rude on a Thursday. While I understand Thursday may be a busy day, there is no reason to give us such cold service.Throughout the night, we noticed it seems as if the staff- especially the indoor “bouncers”- seemed to only pay attention to their friends.Mediocre food and very poor service. Sad, but do not plan on coming again.

Went for lunch; expecting to enjoy a delicious chicken parm (as you can see from my emoji in the pic). Roll was soggy and makes me wonder if these were pre-assembled. Salad was eh.

Great cheesesteak egg rolls and quesadillas! Nice spot for drinks. Kates Rum bucket is yummy. Will come back again!

Food was wonderful, however I was extremely dissatisfied by the employees. First, we waited half an hour to be served. Our waitress was nice, but she continually missed our table, and we waited awhile for our food. Food was served cold. Our son-in-laws- who are 24- complained about the rudeness of the bouncers. We are from out of state, so it understandable that we may have extra caution, but my son-in-laws felt that the bouncers were unnecessarily rude. Later in the night, we attempted to order fries, but they were never brought to our table. Upon heading upstairs, although it was packed, we were served quickly at the bar (bartenders were great.)However, we felt the bouncers did not have adequate training, as we were continually pushed and one man even attempted to start a fight, and yet no employee intervened. Throughout the night, we saw the employees focusing their attention on people who seemed to be their friends, and making jokes with the bartenders. While I understand a healthy work atmosphere, the staff upstairs seemed completely oblivious to their surroundings. I witnessed a girl helping her friend up from the ground, and yet only the helpful girl was escorted out. When my group and I attempted to help, we were told to back away. Overall, I felt extremely dissatisfied with the staff. While the food was wonderful, it was not timely nor do I appreciate the attitude of the workers. I do not feel I can come back to this restaurant, especially not during the weekend. I feel the actions of a places’ employees say much more than the food, and I was extremely dissatisfied.

Make sure you feed the meter! They will get you. Very COVID conscience. The food and service were good. we were a large party and they split us up but kept us close enough. All the food was good. I ordered the Chicken parm and was expecting to be let down since it isnt something i order out because its always bad. This was actually really good! Except for the garlic bread, that was bad. LOL It was like they dumped the whole bottle of garlic powder on it after they toasted it because they forgot. Not a big deal, its only bread! :) All in all, a good experience and will be back when i am in town

Came here on a whim after our initial plan had a much longer wait than anticipated... food was good, atmosphere is definitely right for a college town. our server wasnt as attentive as he could have been but i never expect much from restaurants on Main Street, Newark.

The food was ok, service was wonderful. We chose it because it had outdoor seating. Portions were average. There wasnt anything that was bad, but nothing to make it stand out either.

My wife and I enjoyed a great date night on a Friday evening. This being UofD territory, Klondike Kate’s can get really crowded during the school year, but this time we didn’t have to wait at all!The hostess and waiting staff are friendly, attentive (though at times busy). I got a Crab Bisque soup (cream based). I’m pretty picky about crab bisque, and this one did not fail to please! It’s a nice big portion for a “cup”.I ordered the fish tacos and my wife got beef fajitas with a salad. The food presentation is great (surprisingly for a college area joint) and the food was hot and tasty!The waitress kept our drinks topped off, and was within eye sight the whole time.We enjoyed the food, and got to enjoy a life musician on a guitar playing cool hits. The music volume was comfortable, so my wife and I could chat and enjoy our time together!We commented on the vintage stained glass windows onside, and I recall hearing stories of the long history of this location. Loved it.

Have always enjoyed Kates. This time however was not as tasty as usual, both my husband and I left disappointed. Service was great and we will return. Maybe just an off night.

My first time at Klondike Kates and I was extremely disappointed. We ordered the Whole Shebang as an appetizer. The fried portions were dripping grease and Im not sure it was chicken in my chicken quesadilla! My entree was the Gold Rush Penne which was tasty. The scallops in it were a bit iffy though. My husband had the Lyft burger which he said was good. I expected more since Klondike Kates is part of the Martuscelli family restaurants. Maybe I should have ordered from the beer list first!The plus side is that our server was attentive and very nice.

35 years later, Klondike Kate’s does not disappoint! Quesadillas & the Inlet/Island nachos were excellent. Nate our server was just terrific! Hoping my son gets accepted to of U of D so I can visit more often:)

Finally! This was our 1st dine in with the family since this whole covid-19 started. Place was fun looking. Food was great! My kids loved it. We definitely enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommend.

This was our 1st time at KKR and we absolutely loved their food!!! Its a fun sports bar like atmosphere people of all ages but mostly college kids. We did have a bit of an issue, as we had placed our order online, only to arrive 45min later to find that it had never been put in their system 😳. The hostess was very apologetic and ensured us that our order would be expedited. We received the order about 20min later and after speaking with the manager, we were also compensated with complimentary desserts, that were delicious 😋 (especially the churros). We live about an hour away, but would definitely take the trip back!

Great menu choices with lots of stick to your ribs options. First time visitor and would gladly return when in Newark again.

Classic bar. Seems to have changed quite a bit since my college years but still great. Bar downstairs is great, outdoor deck right on main street, nightclub upstairs.

Very dog friendly and they will even bring a water bowl if needed!!I have also attended several private events and the private rooms and food have always been fantastic.Lastly, love the classic UD decor!!

I ordered $100 of food from klondike kates. When I noticed that my order was incorrect I called not to mention my order was 2 hours late. I request to speak with the manager. The manager asked the host if I could leave a message. I request to speak with the manager again. Jaime the manager answered with a sour attitude. I explained the situation that part of my order was left out. She told me that she could not give me a partial refund or remake the order then hung up the phone. Would not recommend this place to anyone ever.

I was so excited to dinner at Klondike Kates for Valentines Day brunch with my family because of all the good reviews. Unfortunately our service was extremely terrible. Our Server Emily, was defensive and argumentative because we asked for hot cinnamon rolls due her taking so long to bring use appetizer plates. After her rude response and eye rolling, her service to our table became short and curt. Honestly I can not rate the food because I lost my appetite from the bad vibes of our waitress. I am sad to have traveled over 40mins for such service.

Been to Klondike Kates more than a few times. Great staff and incredible food. Bartenders are always on point. Love when they host the early morning after run parties.

Festive college town hang out. Weekend brunch is a big thing at Klondike Kates. In December they do fun, over-the-top Christmas decorations and theme drinks. The food is pretty good and they have some happy hour specials worth trying. If you find yourself in Newark, DE its definitely worth stopping in.

Just to be clear, I really want to give it 4.5 stars but Google cant do that. TLDNR it was really good, but some room for improvement. I also usually try to make a point to write down things like our servers name(s) but it was a long day and I just spaced. I want to say we had Nick? You know who you are, guy - you asked if we could move to a BETTER table because the entertainment was supposed to set up where the hostess sat us - you were freaking awesome! Dont ever change! Maybe the online staff can chime in.So - to it... My wife decided to come to work with me for the day so we could use the evening to check out all the awesome eateries that I pass on the long commute home. Klondike Kates caught her eye and so it was. We entered and were seated promptly by the hostess with a you can have this table and out. No biggie because I think the party started to come in behind us so great timing! Our server more than made our experience though. I REALLY wish I could give him proper due - I hope the owner comments because it really was one of the best experiences weve had and the whole place was super busy (but still socially distanced properly I might add). Anyway, he grabs our drink order, answers some questions as its our first time to the venue and was back in perfect time to get our food orders.We started with the Mac-n-Cheese balls, Marie got the Mexicali burger with a Hot & Spicy Margarita, and I the Texas Burger with a Miller Lite. Now, heres where I say room for improvement.... The Mac-N-Cheese balls were absolutely awesome: Crispy outside with little elbow macaroni, bell peppers, onions, jalapeño, the super creamy cheese inside and served with Chipotle aoli for dipping. What was kind of off were the burgers. They were both really really tasty - dont get me wrong - but the temperature wasnt quite what we expected after the Mac bites. Maries was an edible temperature but not what we would call overly warm. The turkey burger was missing any sort of seasoning and was kind of bland. While the tortilla was pressed, it did not seem like a long press as there were no grill or other marks that would have added some needed structure and texture to the outside. She took 1/2 home to warm up for later.My burger was also the same type of warm temperature, but the bun was definitely chilly. Like theyd both been sitting out a while, but not under a heat lamp. The Crispy bacon on the Texas burger was under-done and a bit rubbery as well. The onion straws were fresh however, very crispy and just the right amount of BBQ sauce was added - not super sloppy and drowning out the rest of the burger like some places do. Great flavors, but missing that hot, juicy burger with crispy bacon type of experience that I had read on the menu.Fries were on-point and tasty - good crisp on the outside and definitely a fresh, hot batch. Marie was even able to get a little side of the chipotle aoli for dipping hers. BONUS!Last part was dessert. Theres an appetizer on the menu called Fried PB&J. On the recommendation of our server, we did NOT get it as an app, but rather got one for dessert. This particular dish could get 5 stars on its own. Its literally a PB&J sandwich, dipped in pancake batter and deep fried. Its like a funnel cake, all its missing is the powdered sugar, but it doesnt have the heaviness of that type of confection. Its light and crispy but sweet and savory goodness cut into corners like when you were a kid. Even if youre not hungry after the meal, Id say get one to take home and use an air fryer to re-heat it (and yes, we did toss some powdered sugar on it because why not?) You wont be sorry.All in, the food is elevated beyond what we expected walking in, but there were just some small but important things that could have made it a true 5-star experience. Great atmosphere, good food and fast service tick all the boxes for us.

This place used to awesome. Went to celebrate a family members birthday. Service was slow, I remember the food being better. Middle of dinner they brought in a live band that made any conversation you may have wanted to have cease.

Had a fantastic time sitting upstairs people watching all of the kids who are enrolled at ud and cant afford to or didnt want to go home for winter break. Beers were cheap and laughs were plentiful. Highlights of the night include a chick arguing with her boyfriend because he cheated on her. Or seeing a 100lb girl fall over by the bathroom and I think puke in the stairwell. Luckily the bouncers were on it. But they didnt even care to help her. After she attempted to stand up she managed to take a digger right into a row of chairs. I watched this unfold and thought to myself now they can redeem themselves. Nope they didnt do anything luckily my friend was there to pick her up and escorts her outside. Seriously what are you paying a bouncer for if they arent gonna help somebody whos obviously wasted. Also got hit on a girl at the bar but my girlfriend really put the hex on that one. Will be returning in a few months because drinking really isnt my thing.

The food here was fantastic, would definitely recommend the Call an Uber burger its quite possibly the best burger Ive ever had. They had a fantastic recovery policy and I really enjoyed my time there. Shout out to Alicia, Thomas, and Steve for a fantastic evening!

The waitress was wonderful and service was great, but the food was VERY underwhelming. None of us felt well for the rest of the day after lunch and we all got different meals. We wont be returning.

My absolute favorite place on Main Street. Whenever anyone needs a good restaurant recommendation I always recommend Kates.First off, let me talk about the reservation system. Kates makes it so easy to make reservations by calling and if its too late to make a reservation they will put you name on the wait list so youre not wasting time on the way there. Kates will send you a text and call you when your table is ready and are really flexible when it comes to you being a little late as long as you let them know ahead of time.Second off, the waitstaff is always incredibly friendly and happy to recommend you their favorite items on the menu.Speaking of the menu everything I have ordered has been consistently amazing. Kates gets a lot of attention for their nachos and its not for no reason. Their nachos are delicious and the portions are huge! When coming here with my boyfriend the small plate of nachos was enough to fill both of us up before we even got out main entree! We didnt even make it through the entire plate before we felt like we were going to burst. The Trash Can nachos are my favorite and are a little pricey, but if you go on Tuesdays the nachos are half off.Ive also had many of Kates sandwiches and other appetizers as well. The Chicken Press is a great sandwich and they do the French Dip very well. Kates wings were also great and I was happy they were not too spicy, Im a little sensitive when it comes to spice.Kates has the perfect environment for Main Street and is both a great for adults to enjoy drinks and for families looking to get a good bite. Cant wait to be back in Delaware this Fall to come back to Kates again!

Casual atmosphere but not a dive, friendly waitstaff, good pub fare with a decent variety of gluten free options, fun specialty cocktails. Not overrun with college students until evening. Known for their nachos (real cheese and lots of it).

It’s a real shame this place has steadily gone downhill over the last couple years. It used to be one of our favorites to have nachos and beer but the quality of the food and the terrible service has plagued this place for the last couple years. I’m not coming back.

1st timer to this establishment. The service was fast and friendly. Small brunch menu but good stuff on it. Crab & asparagus omelet very good ( not overly seasoned ) steak & peppers griddle was good. While the side; the hash browns, surprisingly stole the show. Not to mention, fix your own mamosa (fruit, toppers, flavors) or bloody Mary (same and hot pepper sauces galore) for only $4.👍. Best of all while there, started looking at what other people had ordered. My wife and I both had plate envy. Cant wait to come back and try something different.

Fun place to go. Drink prices are good. I like how theyre tied into Chesapeake Inn now. I just wish the top floor was bigger. It gets a little crowded. Bathrooms definitely need an expansion. Maybe they could combine the side room with the big room and reconfigure it. But, overall a great place.

Solid bar with a nice atmosphere. Lots of dark wood on the interior which I love. The food is not the best on Main St, but is definitely solid for comfort food. A few of the menu items are more upscale for sure. Great beer selection and bar. Overall a solid place to chill. They have very nice outdoor seating as well!

Other then the Deer Park, Klondike Kate’s is the most famous restaurant on Main Street in Newark, Delaware. A University of Delaware favorite, Klondike Kate’s is an awesome dinner experience that is like no other. The food is great, and the service is friendly and welcoming. Official review: 8.7

This is a gem in Newark. Being on the UD campus, theres a college feel to it. However, I got the impression its more of an alumni place. Good alcohol selection, and reasonably priced. Also, a lot of new menu items that looked good. This is certainly a place that well be back to. As my wife (a UD grad) said, Kates is an institution.

Havent been there in many years but I was pleased that the place seems brighter and nicer than I remember. The menu had a nice range of selections and the food was pretty good - not great, but pretty good. Overall, I would like to go back and try some other menu items.

20 Something party spot for sure . Hit this place up with some friends on a night out. We were def the old heads . The Dj upstairs wasnt very good but seemed popular with younger crowd.

Hadnt been there for years and yet the place felt familiar. It was under renovation but the food was good and the service was first rate. Happy to spend time there with my family and an old college buddy.

Went here a couple times during my undergrad time at UD. Fun at times, decently priced drinks but I preferred Deer Park. There was a bartender who deliberately ignored our requests for drinks one night, a group of us black girls, and we were just about to leave when I bumped into a manager and told him what happened. He gave us free drinks and apologized for the rude bartender. I respected him so much for that. We ended staying a bit longer and had a good time. Great management.

Fun local eatery, frequented by Newark locals and University of Delaware students. Half-priced burgers all day on Mondays. Pretty sure they have other good specials other days of the week as well. Vegetarian and vegan options are available but not as tasty/prevalent as the meat options (compared to Home Grown, for example, where some vegetarian options are arguably better than the meat ones). However, Kates is a great option for comfort food.

This place serves beer, sandwiches, and nachos among other food. The restaurant has an old saloon / tavern vibe which is neat. There is a bar and T.V.s. I enjoy the food here a lot. The customer service has always good in my experience. You can eat here for $13 - 30.

Phenomenal food in Newark! There is great food during the day, and a lively crowd at night. Great spot to go to for a good meal or drink. Highly recommend the Nachos :)

Food was good; typical bar food offerings with a slightly more fresh focus over the mass-produced greasy portions that other bars may offer, decent portions, reasonably priced.Ate at the bar, and service was great, very friendly bartenders. Atmosphere was to be expected, between the historic building and the college town, altogether enjoyable.
