I had the opportunity to do some volunteer work at the College Reentry program at Fountain House. This program is so well thought out. College reentry fills a unique niche for students who have the will to continue his or her education after having endured some serious emotional adversity. The organization and staff are so earnest and devoted in supporting its members, it is warming and remarkable to observe . All of the program is housed in a cozy, welcoming townhouse in Midtown, which is very inviting and peaceful. The percentage of participants who have gone on to complete their studies is very high. I believe College Reentry has created a wonderful model to aid students resume their education. The program teaches many holistic methods in addition to traditional modes of support to help cope with stressors. College Reentry is the byproduct of very thoughtful, informed and creative professionals.

College Re-Entry is that program I wish I knew about while I was still in college. They help tons of college-level students dealing with mental health challenges navigate through your myriad priorities while in and out of school. Im sure it would benefit a lot of students like me who does a great deal of tackling many priorities while preventing burnout. They also guide you on how to best take a leave of absence in school, what to do best while youre in leave, and how you can re-enter university and start building relationships with people again.

This incredible program offers an amazing staff who provide outstanding support and mentoring, classes and life skills all the while boosting confidence and success. Students transform from being isolated, shy and unsure to confident, curious and bursting with the energy to grow and prosper. New friends are made and cherished. This program helps students regain the life they almost lost.

Great program run by great people. I started this program at a difficult point in life and I received nothing but the most encouraging support. The location is at a great spot in the middle of Hell’s Kitchen, and the space itself is sunny and comfortable. The staff will really listen and work with you on your college/future plans, and everything is about your health and overall life satisfaction. They take feedback seriously and actually made adjustments to their curriculum after my group made suggestions. There’s really nothing else like CRE and I’m so happy it existed for me and is still helping other people. Julie Anna and Jason are the best!

Im so grateful for the help that CRE gave me to get me back on my feet academically and healthwise in spirit and mind. Julie, Jason, and in particular, Anna, who coached me specifically, show their devotion to their work in kindness and faith in whoever walks through the doors of CRE. Thank you with love and nostalgia!!!

I walked into this place very unhappy, very depressed and in a hopeless situation I like to call depression and (at the time) undiagnosed mental illnesses. I left this place stronger, happier and more determined than ever to never let it push me down again in such a way. I was never a very good student at my school, I wasnt stupid but I was highly unmotivated and my mental illness hurt me, the people around me and my grades. But the folks at College ReEntry were so kind and thoughtful and they wouldnt let me quit on myself. They gave me the strength and confidence I needed and it paid off. I have just made the Deans List (what the what?!) and got all As in my last semester. I still have my ups and downs every now and then but I wouldnt have even been able to do any of my recent achievements without Julie, Anna and Jason and everyone else in my group. It wasnt intimidating at all, it was a very welcoming environment, everyone was amicable, thoughtful and funny. It was also a lot of fun! (especially at the farm and in cooking class). I learned Mindfulness, yoga, how to eat better, how to write better, how to manage better and most importantly how to make sure I made the best of my situation, no matter how hard I kept telling myself it was. Please, if you have any problems with college do not give up on yourself. You are much stronger than you can imagine. And I highly recommend that if it is hard and you need a strong push you have to go here. Also shout out again to Julie, Anna and Jason, you guys rock!!! Also cause Im a jokester and wanna end on a funny note heres me at the farm trip (there was a trip to this gorgeous farm upstate, with all these animals, I swear the air was cleaner somehow, beautiful sunsets and at one point I learned how to canoe somehow). Anyway, heres me with my brother from another mother.

As someone that took a medical leave of absence during college for mental health issues, I cannot endorse Fountain Houses College Re-Entry program enough. It is absolutely essential for success upon returning to school.
