We found Soho Gem just from walking around the neighborhood and my fiancé and I had such a great experience with Winona (the owner and a gemologist) - we shopped around a bit to be sure just because we were new to this sort of thing but Winona is the best!!! She helped us incorporate a pair of earrings I had into an engagement ring as the side stones and sourced a diamond for the middle stone for us. She taught us so much about diamonds and was so courteous of our budget and design requests. Well definitely be going there for our wedding bands! My ring is absolutely GORGEOUS and I cant recommend Soho Gem enough.

Fair and transparent pricing, superior service and plenty of extra effort on the part of the staff (Winona in particular) to ensure everything was perfect (my purchase was even expedited for free). Especially appreciated the effort on the staff to educate and explain jewelry lingo (and not just endlessly upsell you, like many other places do).

I wouldn’t recommend this store. I arrived with an appointment but was left waiting outside while the employees inside were doing various activities. They didn’t come talk to us, they just left us waiting outside, I don’t know if maybe it’s because of the color of my skin, but jewelry is about an experience, and this experience didn’t come across as friendly and welcoming.

I had an engagement ring that I inherited, but didnt know anything about. I walked in with it on a whim and Winona took the time to listen to my story, look up the stone for me, and explain my options for when I was ready to use it. She was SO kind and didnt pressure me into buying anything (which is something that has turned me off from a lot of other jewelers). When my fiance proposed (with that ring), I knew exactly where to go to get it sized and refinished. The results were incredible. The repair person they work with replaced several stones and the whole thing was shinier than I could have imagined. It was very affordable as well! So glad I found Winona and Soho Gem! Our experience with Soho Gem for both engagement and wedding rings has been exemplary! The engagement ring had to be resized and they worked with us until it was just right. The wedding bands are lovely -- they helped us select bands that were just the right finish, width and size for each of us and had them custom made. (We got different style bands.) Every time I go in, I have a wonderful interaction with the staff. Each person is helpful and knowledgeable, and I feel as if weve built relationships with our primary contacts. They are also happy to scope and price custom pieces at any price point., small and large. Theyll be my jewelers for the foreseeable future, even after the wedding preparations are complete!

Winona greeted us warmly, guided us through various designs and stones, and enthusiastically answered all of our questions. We visited several other jewelry stores in Soho with comparable prices and none were as welcoming or helpful. Winona followed up the same day with a detailed email complete with pictures and specs for everything we looked at. When I returned by myself to pick out the stone and ring, Winona walked me through the decision process without any upselling or sales pressure. I walked in uneducated and intimidated by the gem/jewelry business and left confident in my purchases and comfortable with the knowledge that the staff here will do anything to help you understand the process and get exactly what you need. Couldnt be more impressed with Irina and her staff. Its rare to find someone as well informed as Irina but rarer still that person has the patience and ability to make you feel comfortable asking what are probably the dumbest questions ever asked in that boutique. Losing my one-of-a-kind natural sapphire engagement ring was unbelievably heart breaking and gut wrenching. And, it was made very stressful when the insurance company told me that standard policy is to have their wholesale jeweler do their own appraisal. We picked my ring for its exquisite uniqueness, but I was a little worried not knowing how a natural sapphire would retain value. Well, my worry was completely unnecessary, the GIA certified natural sapphire stone Irina set was not only irreplaceable in its sentimental value to me, but actually so irreplaceable that the wholesale jeweler appraised it at almost triple what we paid. I will forever miss my beautiful ring, but am so grateful to SoHo Gem for making such an incredible product that more than held its value. I cant wait for my new one!

Staff members were knowledgeable and took time to teach me about my options and the stones that were brought in. The designs the education so high level for one who is use to the highest level of service and quality gems. They have a special line of gems from Madagascar! I just went there and bought the most beautiful multi colored pearl necklace from pearls from Japan and Tahiti. If you want high quality gems, expert advice and designs which are contemporary, reference the past but celebrate the stones and gems this is the place to go. I was shopping around for a bespoke engagement ring for my fiancée and happened upon Soho Gem based upon its positive reviews here. I want to add another 5-star review based on my own wonderful experience with this boutique jeweler. On my first stop here, I was pretty green in terms of my knowledge of diamonds, bands, settings, etc. The gemologist here, Keiko, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and explained everything to me and gave me a good sense of what was possible for my budget. Keiko has a very impressive background, having worked with all the major outlets--Cartier, Harry Winston--and was able to source exactly the kinds of diamonds I wanted to look at in terms of cut, color, quality, and price. I got such a great feeling from her that I went back to my fiancée and asked her to come check out the store and to meet Keiko, to see if she might want to have the ring made here.On our second visit, we met the jewelry designer, Irina. Irina gave wonderful advice in terms of the style of the ring--my fiancée initially thought she wanted yellow gold, but after Irina had her try on various different bands, it turned out that platinum was a better match for her. I also had some family diamonds that turned out to be too small for the main setting, and slightly too large to put into the band. However, despite the fact that these stones couldnt be used for the engagement ring, Irina gave some great suggestions for putting them into a necklace or bracelet at a later date, and had my fiancée try on a few of her other pieces to give us a good sense of what we could create. I can only describe Irinas style of jewelry as classic and beautiful, made for a discerning taste. When it comes time to design our next piece, I will absolutely come back here.Although at this point I was quite certain I wanted to buy the ring from Soho Gem, I still went and price shopped at a few other downtown jewelers. What I found is that the price I was quoted here was very fair and competitive, and for a quality of work that is superior to other stores, many of which have bands and settings that are factory-made (as opposed to handmade as this was).My fiancée and I got engaged just before Christmas, and we couldnt be happier with our beautiful diamond ring. If youre thinking of an engagement ring, or any other special piece of jewelry, I would absolutely recommend Irina and Keiko at Soho Gem.

While out ring shopping with my girlfriend, we happened upon SoHo Gem on our way to the subway. It immediately struck us both, as it is a cute shop, right on the corner in the heart of SoHo, and immediately felt welcoming as we stepped inside. Isabel, the in-house GIA certified gemologist, was working behind the counter that day, and after just a brief conversation with her, I immediately knew this is where I wanted to buy the ring. She was warm and welcoming, and gave a low-pressure and detailed description of different cuts, colors, and styles of various rings and stones. Their selection in the store was vast and of very high quality, but were very willing to be as creative as we wanted to be with designing the perfect ring. As I saw my girlfriend’s face light up at a beautiful ring design by Sholdt, thus I knew I had the ring design right away. In the cover of white lies to my girlfriend about getting drinks with friends, Isabel and I met 3 or 4 times to sift through various candidate stones. Isabel patiently guided me through the process of understanding how to optimize my stone choice between size, color, and clarity of the cut I’d chosen. Between my long work commute during the week, and trying to sneak away from my girlfriend, I was a demanding customer as far as appointment flexibility. In spite of all this, Isabel and the entire staff adapted to my needs, and worked with me with no complaints or attitude whatsoever. After we finally settled on a stone, the final product was absolutely stunning. It was the exact vision of what I wanted. Needless to say, my girlfriend was floored, and we are due to be married in 2013! My experience with SoHo Gem was a true pleasure in every aspect of the process.
