THEY SAVED MY LIFE. WHEN I FIRST CAME TO NEW YORK IT WAS JUST ME GOD AND MY PRAYERS. I DIDNT HAVE AN ADDRESS. THEY TOOK ME IN. PROVIDED HEAT HOT WATER AND A BED. A VERY CLEAN AND CARING ENVIRONMENT. THEY SENT ME TO ED THOMPSON VETERANS CENTER IN QUEENS FOR DRUG AND LIFE REHABILITATION. MY LIFE HAS CHANGED COMPLETELY. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO MAKE A CHANGE IN THEIR LIVES AND BE AN ASSET TO THEIR COMMUNITY
This is a lovely place they give you a bed for 7 days then they can extend it 21 one more days. You must take a shower before going to bed and they also make sure your stuff is safe. By placing it in a locked area. The food is great. The only downside is you must leave each day and return at 3 pm for woman and 4 pm for men.
They do the best they can for an emergency shelter. Thankful for all my brothers& sisters there. God bless them.
This place is really nice, unfortunately when I came in I was delusional and thought the staff was being mean for not showing me how to wash my clothes. At the time I had gotten my bed and everything in order. I had a blood cloth developing in my left foot, the pain was heightening and I ended up throwing a coffee at the front door and then had like five people come at me wanting to fight me who they them selfs must of been mentally ill. Well they swung at me, hit me, I swung back and then got sent to an office where they kicked me out for fighting. They said I couldnt come back for six months. Thats when I showed up to the Bowery Mission, a couple of blocks away. Either way this place is very helpful. If youre not in my condition youll be well off.
Being homeless after my daughter repeatedly pounded my face in after coming in drunk, followed by knee going out led me to the rescue mission from Safe Horizon. They are really walking in the light of God. They will be kind and helpful.to you. If you want to make a change in your life, a bed and be off the streets I highly recommend this place.
Am here it a very nice place. You get a bed for 7 days then a extension for 21 more days. You meet with a social worker. To work on permanent housing and other goals. They also have 2 residential programs that can help you short or long term.
Provides good food and good services to those who might need it. Very clean and organized. Staffed by good volunteers, (Im one).
They should use clear bags, everyone coming here for the stay should have their belongings in clear backpacks and clear bags for safety.
Easy to donate to. Great organization.
Wonderful staff!!! Clean environment and overall great place to stay in an emergency!!! 5 stars
Definitely GREAT place.... They feed you hot meal at dinner. Chapel services with positive messages. Staff genuine and courteous. Treated with dignity n respect. Social Services to help with with program n other services. I was welcomed with open arms n have been treated fairly. To tell truth I feel blessed Not perfect but in reality who is? No pressure to attend chapel services. Structured with rules.
Lack of professionalism or understanding. Makes you feel less than you ever felt before...especially the Supervisors of security whos favorite line to homeless individuals was I DONT CARE
Not bad for a last resort but its refreshing to find a shelter that is not predominantly the prison population
The best staff and homeless shelter.
Would be better if they had lockers for the homeless to leave things behind and go out to apply to jobs
Some of the individuals were nice, the chefs are always welcoming.
Urgent:If anyone has seen or heard from Carlos Rodriguez, he has 3 tattoos on his hand that read “Ashley, Annette, Carlos” he is also disabled, please tell him to contact his Daughter Ashley. We have been looking for him for a few months and last time this is where he was staying. He is Hispanic and uses a cane.Thank you.
Friendly and warm place to catch a meal and a bed for the night. If youve never used their services, you are guaranteed a bed for 7 days. You have to be there between 3-4pm (3pm for women;4pm for men), but you are provided dinner, shower, bed for the evening, and breakfast at 8am.
The give you a place to sleep for seven Days.Clean bedding and a clean towel with soap to shower.Breakfast and Dinner. The offer counseling and, the do have a job placement program in order for you to get back on your feet again and, become successful. The also offer a drugs and alcohol rehabilitation program for those who are struggling with alcohol and, drug addiction. The are more strict and safe than the citys shelter system.
🗣THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help and kindness to me. You have certainly been a hand extended to me in my time of need. God bless you greatly. A grade of A+ I give to you. 👧💜💗💛💙💚
First time very friendly peoples great services good food
Not bad just nasty place. 50 people a floor 200 total 100 men 100 women. They really help homeless people out. Thats why I gave them 5 stars. I didnt love being there at all. However, most the people there good with being needy.
Terrible place with a 5 p.m. curfew mandatorily instated upon clients and other options that they have available without curfew you have to pay for
A warm welcome for all. More than a soup kitchen, more than a hostel. This is an oasis of authentic, unconditional love bringing light to dont of the dark places of downtown Manhattan. The staff are hard working, friendly and kind.Guests are treated with dignity from the moment they arrive and there is a desire to meet peoples deepest needs.
I am rating this based on the brief visits I have made when delivering rescued food to this location during a volunteer event. The front desk staff that I have encountered are very polite and appreciative of our volunteer efforts in bringing the food to the NYC Rescue Mission, especially a gentleman that I believe his name is Charlie. This individual is an example of how the organization can help improve the homeless populations lives, himself having been helped by the organization. They know all the clients that visit the location.
Clean place, if you get there early you can get a clean bed, hot shower and good food. Stayed here one night and it is better than main chase in Lexington. But for women get there before 4 so you can get a bed. And the beds were not bad at all clean linen is given to everyone and they require that you shower b4 getting in bed and if you dont have any sleepwear they will give it to you. And the church from Communitas is great and very moving, also the serve coffee b4 service and all are welcome. It was a good and calming despite being a walk in.
Thank you beyond words NYC Rescue Mission 🙏🙌 ❤️ I had a brief stay and it was better than I ever expected.. HOPE really does live here!! Im forever grateful for the staff and the great people who are in my position and who shared their stories with me..Ill remember them always! Breakfast was the meal I looked forward to lol..Just be Early for everything..I Pray that God will look after this place and the people who dwell there.
Not enough beds for the women, and man. The preach the word of the Lord. Provide food and a bed. Staff they dont judge you. They do the best.
Great if you are down on your luck, Nice service warm employees, all in all a great olace
Bringing food and clothing here feels like the thing to do but the staff are so truly appreciative that it feels like the only thing to do. Sometimes we forget the impact we can easily make. Something so simple can change a persons day...or life.
The New York City Rescue Mission of Manhattan New York is an organization that Im not too sure if its non-profit organization or not but regardless in a daily and weekly basis they are doing outreach and helping the homeless community in the greater New York City area get reffered to services, find a meal in a mutli daily basis, and trying to get these people so housing or at least temporary shelter for the night or week. From there they also do refferals to other services that cab further help the community. Great work guys 5 stars.
There doing greate
The fact that they do bed lotteries for those whos seven days are up, proves theyre not interested in helping the chronically homeless. You can barely get to see a caseworker in there nevertheless an advocate. The receptionist/security guard never knows anything useful and youre forced to roam the streets of Soho, rain or shine, for hours at a time. Its kind of a joke. They talk about positive energy and positive vibes but they never get anything done for you. Also, forget about coming to this shelter if youre working past the afternoon. Youre screwed out of a bed immediately.
This is one of the most dangerous places in New York City. Cruelty and BLACK racism is their middle name. IF YOU ARE A GOOD PERSON OF GOOD MORAL CHARACTER, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. YOU ARE SAFER ON A PARK SOMEWHERE.
Went here for meals a few times when I was going through a rough patch (job loss, loss of my apartment, living in a homeless shelter, etc). The food served at dinner is mainly food that has been donated by restaurants - I had EXCELLENT meals here.Anybody panhandling saying they are hungry is full of you-know-what. There are PLENTY of free meals available in NYC - you just have to put the legwork into getting them. The panhandlers are either lazy, lying, or looking for drug money. Granted it might not be exactly what you want to eat, but it is food.
If your desperate, this place will at least give you a bed for 7 nights. After that, youre entered into a lottery, giving you about a 50% chance of another 7 nights. Safer than a normal NYC shelter for sure.
Great place to be if you have an emergency and need a place to sleep for a night or two, breakfast and dinner, also devotions to lift up your spiritual mood. This Rescue mission is not for you if you cannot follow rules and regulations because there are rules to keep you and the staff safe. They also have certificate programs for those who want to change their lives. Remember this is not a shelter just a temporary place of rescue until you get on your feet. Best thing to do when youre at the Rescue Mission is get with the program. Their are people who are back home with families because of the mission. Sometimes they return but its all good, It cannot be a hundred percent. No one is perfect, the mission is there to help again. Thanks NYRM.
Great place to help homeless people with housing and resources to get them back on their feet and getting them employment
WHEN I WAS IN SEMINARY A SMALL BIBLE SCHOOL I DID MY IN SERVICE AT THE MISSION SPENT THE SUMMER WORKING WITH REV MINOR HAD A WONDERFUL TIME STILL HAVE MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES CAN REMEMBER HEARING BROTHER LOUIS THE CHURCH IS NOT COMING YOU ARE ON I WOULD CALL OUT THANKS GO INTO THE CHAPEL AND PRAY AS I OPENED MY THOMPSON BIBLE AND ASKED GOD FOR HIS TOPIC FOR THOSE WHO WOULD BE PRESENT FO THE SERVICE. I ALWAYS ENJOYED SLEEPING IN THE STAFF DORM ALWAYS ENJOYED THE MEALS AND ESPECIALLY THE FAMILY LIKE FELLOWSHIP I WAS 19 BACK IN 1970 WHEN I WAS DOING MY INSERVICE I AM NOW 68 AND STILL HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES FROM BACK WHEN IT WAS MC CAULEY WATER STREET RESCUE MISSION GOD BLESS YOU ALL AS YOU CONTINUE TO RESCUE THE PERISHING AND BRING HOPE TO ALL
They are strict with hygene which is a big plus. You get clean sheets for your bed, food to eat, and a place to stay. I am grateful for this place.
Had a bunch of donations to make that werent quite resale worthy, but things I thought would definitely be useful to someone who just needed a coat or pair of pants, etc. We were in the middle of moving, and as moves often go, we finished packing the donations around 11 o clock at night. This place claimed to be open 24/7 and sure enough, we wandered over just before midnight and the guy at the front desk let us in, took our bags, and gave us a receipt. Couldnt have been easier.
This is a homeless feeding and shelter program in New York City. It helps to support people in need of placement temporarily and supplies meals. They are in danger of being closed down due to lack of funds. Hopefully they will be able to find funding since this is a wonderful supportive program for people in need.
Just drop off stuff donations
Beautiful staff! They showed us so much love and respect went went there and they Love everyone who walk through their doors.
Let help the homeless it a good thing to do
This place was my last hope in NYC and it worked. Dignity, discipline and great food. Hehe Thanks guys.. without you my beginnings here will not be possible.
Great place to eat dinner. Always enough to eat and u will leave full
Excellent place to rebuild your life, great food created by chef Trevor. Thanks for all the donor that contribute to the rescue mission
The amazing venue for worship & a meal! Thank you.
Wonderful staff and a beautiful mission. If youre looking for a place to make charitable donations, Id encourage you to check out this organization.
This place had some good indeed they can help. You fr let u stay for 7 days feed u 3×a day let you shower but keep in mind that alot of ppl needing help also so beds can be taking all up .
They are a Christian based organization that helps people in need of shelter they feed you and give you and bed to sleep in. Its only short term but it beets sleeping on the streets. They have church services that are very uplifting and inspires me to not give up.thank you rescue mission for being there in my time of need!!Mark lilly
Some of the volunteers forget that they too are homeless and most unemployed like those they serve. They display arrogant attitudes that most times incite arguments instead of defusing them. Some have this jail mentality and quickly resort to inviting you to a fight. Also I have witness inappropriate display of sexual behavior as well as attire from some of the staff/volunteers. For example attire that is extremely tight or revealing. However this Christian based facility segregates Men from Woman in addition to segregating their placement of personal belongings to avoid Male / Female interaction.
Not so bad. Needed a little more time to find clothes
Loved serving and helping the homeless.
I never been here but I was thinking of coming..but 7 days is not enough to help someone get back on their feet.. I think it should be 30days and if you find a job in those 30 days it can be extended.
Donated a few supplies to this organization and they were very grateful for them. A little out of the way from where I live but I will donate to them again.
The only homeless shelter that I will ever recommend!
This is a great place loving people. My wife and i definitely suggest this place to anyone. Great People.
Definitely a good place and staff are good people.
Luckily my life is not so desperately pathetic that I need to wait for a raffle to decide whether I am going to get a bedbug laden bunk for the evening because if this were my only option I would stand in the broken elevator of the Mission until it plummeted 6 floors and killed me. I only stayed for a brief moment so will just give a handful of quick observations. It is supposed to be an emergency shelter but people live there for literal years. There is no help with housing or job training and people who are trying to better themselves by getting jobs or going to school lose thier beds if they are not in them by 3:45 pm. There is racism, favoratism, laziness (Shayquan is easily the laziest and most useless Ambassador there) malaise, food poisoning, unrelenting filth and the knowledge that you are nothing more than a bed to fill. You are given a list of rules when you arrive but they are not followed and there are people who do not have to follow them or are not punished according to them. The only positive reviews here are written by people who like to pat themselves on the back because they donated, no one who has been subjected to the hypocrisy, toxicity, filth, injustice, assault from male clients, complete lack of care and never ending exhaustion of this place has ever left a positive review.Thats because it is not a positive place. I am lucky enough to be in a position where I can and will rise above this and I have nothing but compassion and pity for those who are trapped in that unhelful, unjust, and downright ugly situation. Jose, Chuck, Cheryl and Lea are good people who deserve better than this place. Aside from them, well...Id go into a city shelter before subjecting myself to this madhouse ever again.
Stayed there recently. Employees more arrogant then when i needed the place before. They saved my life in the 90s. But now the volunteer staff has elitist attitude about themselves. Talking down & even yesterday a kitchen staffer called a girl a ho. Then denied it to the director. Same staffer would not shut up for half the nite after the lights were out. The jailed are running the place @ present. Too cliquish. Way too cliquish. They are only doing sneaky favors for each other & spouting the rules to the peasants. Eating in the bunks & trading contraband & food all nite. Not a good example for anyone that wants to volunteer there. The new volunteers just wanna get the in to the goodies. Not a good volunteer staff there @ all right now. Just looks like an extension of penitentiary rules & hierarchy. Not a good look for Christians.
Very helpful, lots of resources and information. They have time to be personal and caring.
Doing a great job showing genuine care for people and meeting practical needs.
The staff is nice. They make sure your warm and safe
I appreciate a good night rest staff was friendly
Its a life saving place. Wonderful staff. Great food.
Christian owned. Truly trying to help people in need. Very clean, good food, clean bathrooms and showers.
Nothing was explained to me, different people telling me different things, you have an early ass curfew but what If you had to do something? Like an appointment etc. You have to do an intake everyday, cause stupid people leave so theres that rule thanks to them. Its only a place to rest your head at and shower. Youre a lotto number once a week being there is up, like they think being homeless is a game?.. You cant even leave your belongings there. Its okay to sleep but not a great shelter.
Loved volunteering here! Everyone is professional and friendly- makes it fun!
I volunteered today. Fed the homeless...will definitely do it again.
Great people doing the Lords work.
Charles at the front desk is my hero. He always makes me feel appreciated whenever I’m dropping off food from Rescuing Leftover Cuisine.
Its wonderful to volunteer and give back to the community a hand up for those wo are struggling.
Wonderful service to community ❣️
It is almost like a typical government services type of place where they tell you they can help you, but its really a hit or miss situation. They either help you, or they dont. Always make sure to have a plan B place to go to if they cant or dont help.
Sad. I didnt visit just saw people lined up
Great place that men and women hear the gospel of Christ and have physical needs met. Thank you for allowing churches to be a partner in your ministry.
Its good place to get same rest and get vray good sleep i can complain its vray clean and good food but the working person in theMorning the are nit so good i like the eving people who works the thank u
Lots of services, organized, friendly staff, I would return there if in need.
People who has no money or homeless can get free and good food there and if Im not mistaken shelter too.The food service is till 6:30 pm
Place clean. Food was great. Thanks .
Such a great place. staff was wonderful.
People were good to me there.Thank you.
The great place for Life transformation through the love of Jesus! The staff is Filled with care and a true desire to help those in need.
This was the first Shelter and worst shelter Ive ever stayed in. The bed bugs ate most of my arm off. And there rules are way to strick for the clients they are supposed to be taking care of. I would never recommend this place. Sleep on a bench. Or go to the many clean reputable organizations. Project Renewal, BRC....
A great place, they offer a lot of services. They have clothing and also they serve food.
I recently became the new owner and ceo of The NYC Rescue mission. Although it hungers for improvements in all areas it is much better than the Bowery Mission.
I hope they do what there name implies.
Omg, I stayed here for one night very bad experience for me. When I took the elevator up to the womens dorm located on the 2nd floor as soon as I walked off the elevator it look like I was in boot camp the way the beds were set up. You couldnt get in bed just yet, you had to be told to take a shower and you had to wait your turn to wash your ass. One lady set there all night almost. They will supply you with a towel so you Betta have your on soap and wash cloth because they only supply towels. All I got from them on my first night was attitudes from the female staff and weird looks from the other women while I was staying there. But the men floor has more privileges than the women said my husband. I would not recommend nobody to say here only if you really need a place to stay and dont have many options. But I do recommend the soup kitchen, the food is good.
Good staff. Treat you respectfully
Customer service over the phone are rude and insensitive .they like to think they are helighe, but they are not.
Its good for one point but its bad when you get the bed for seven days when the seven days is up you have to go by the lottery to get the bed again the back part if your number doesnt show up you dont get a bed and youll be out in the street the food is great the pastor is awesome the rules of a little bad and the curfew is worse you going to be in before 6:15
Its a bed. If your homeless or down on your luck. Nice people who run it, but some sketchy people stay there.
Very helpful; very clean, good food
Helping homeless people get back on their feet!
Helping NYC homeless people
Its a joke but I have to say that they try to get only curtain type of people help only
