Gym is clean. Cleaning staff are constantly visible at all times of the day. Has plenty of equipment and machines available during peak hours. Same goes for lockers. Noticed lines for showers once. Always happy to bring a friend using a guest pass.
YES I AM YELLING. THE MUSIC HERE IS SO LOUD THAT YOU MUST YELL. IF YOU ENJOY LOUD OBNOXIOUS MUSIC THAT YOU CANNOT CONTROL NOT EVEN THE VOLUME TO THEN THIS IS THE GYM FOR YOU. I ASKED ON TWO OCCASIONS IF IT COULD AT LEAST BE LOWERED SO I CAN HEAR MY OWN MUSIC IN MY EARPHONES AND I WAS TOLD IT COULDNT BE LOWERED. BEING FORCED TO LISTEN TO MUSIC YOU DO NOT LIKE IS A DISTRACTION FROM YOUR WORKOUT GOAL HERE. IS THIS A GYM OR A METAL HEAD BAR FOR 20 YEAR OLD POT HEADS?
This is my fav crunch in this city except they are always out of towels in the locker room and when they do have towels they are TINY. Every other crunch has regular human sized bath towels readily available, so idk what’s going on here.
Worst experience ever. Hard selling from the second you walk in, from memberships to personal training. Even after you CANCEL still getting charged FEES out the a$$!! Was called by their finance department and no one in this entire company knows decent customer service. The only reason they made it through the company is because they scam people with fees.. and they’re backed by a hedge fund( that’s what the manager told me)Could have probably bought a year member ship somewhere with the amount I paid within two and a half months. The bad review isn’t even for the extra fees. It’s how terrible they treat their clients. You would think this whole pandemic thing would make people a little more caring.. not at crunch lol. Just very saddening.
Went it for a tour of the gym and ended up doing a trial with Carmine as a personal trainer. He was amazing! Definitely signing up!
I visit every time I am in town in military business, fortunate to get trained by Coach Carmine.
Hi guys, should i join this gym? the reviews are mentioning alot on how the gym keeps charging customers even though they cancelled their membership?I do not want to experience a second gym like NYSC stealing funds from their customers accuonts! That is unscrupulous behavior, its turning me off from wanting to join now.Already Had NYSC steal $160 from my bank account even after cancelling with them few months before, and i do not want to go through the same thing again!
Absolutely rude staff, unprofessional and completely money hungry. This gym continued charging me while my membership was frozen during covid. When I confronted them they passed me off from one person to the next until they left me with a generic email alone which no one responds to. The equipment is old, the gym is a basement and the place stinks. Pay the extra money and go to equinox. You’re actually valued there!!!
My favorite location. Spacious. Clean. Trainers and staff keep it clean.
One of the best Crunches in town:- large,- many machines/ weights,- nice crowd,- very friendly staff and trainers.I love to go here. Still some cons:- if machines are out of order (sometimes) it takes 2 weeks to get them back;- Dumbbells are quite dirty;- steam room usually too dirty (no water hose to clean by yourself as seen in European steam rooms);- dry sauna usually too cold.Dear Crunch59, I would love to clean our dumbbells from the years old sweat and dirt for free membership (and for less funghi) ;)
Hands down my favorite gym in the city. Great value, super clean and all the toys you could ever need
Big locker room with nice lighting, there is sauna and steam room, clean, and huge place to do many different things, easy to get away from one floor to another.. the only drawback is not being able to buy refreshments. drinks and refreshments upstairs owned seperately by someone else and quite expensive
Plentiful equipment. Two deadlift platforms, three squat racks, three flat benchpress. Just get a free tour if you want to know more about that. Friendly staff. Staff and patrons are covid compliant. Clean locker rooms. Clean towels. Good shower gel products. Decent variety contemporary music to get your pump on—I dont bother wearing headphones, cause its good, but if you just have to listen to your own music, the gym music is loud. Havent felt the need to cancel my membership, so I dont know what its like. Conveniently near F/4/5/6 trains and RI tram. Fringe benefit, theres one of those bangla fruit stalls right outside if you need a snack. Places to improve: there are a bit too many 35 pound plates, and only a few power bars with full girth and good knurling.
Terrible experience. I get it, things are chaotic during COVID. I requested to cancel my membership in September, and they said theyd get to it and please be patient. Now its November and Im still being charged. I call to cancel again, and still all they can say is please be patient. No confirmation that my cancellation request was received, no assurance that Ill be reimbursed for these extra months. Is it really that hard to figure out how to process a queue of people waiting to cancel their gym memberships, and respond to their messages after re-opening for two months??Either you guys have some serious organizational problems or youre intentionally trying to delay processing cancellations until COVID improves to try to retain customers. Im sorry, I understand this is a difficult situation, but so is losing 100$ a month without hearing any assurance that it will be returned or that the charges will stop coming.
Poor Management/Customer Service - I have emailed their team multiple times for cancellation of services as I am not longer in the US. They have chosen to ignore my emails. I tried cancelling online but they force you to call or email. When management intentionally tries to make it hard to cancel a recurring payment, I definitely would not recommend to anyone.Update (10/3) - they have still not cancelled my membership and not responded to any of my emails and continue to charge me on a monthly basis. It’s ridiculous.
Terrible management and service. Immediately after gyms reopened following COVID, I called up the location and asked that they put my account on hold as I am not going into the city. They told me to submit a message online which I did. I now have just received a call from them saying I own over $150 and that my account wasnt in fact put on hold. Deceptive behavior and they make it very difficult for a basic ask.
Hard to communicate with costumer service, took a long time to answer. My membership was frozen, and they kept charging me. Even the anual fee was charged, and they don’t want to give me refund. Worst experience!
Probably the worst experience in Nyc, with my membership frozen because of covid, theyre still charging and when i asked for the refund they said they cannot do it, my guess is that theyre closing doors and are trying to keep as much money they can from the members, Horrible.
Im be honest I been to Every gym in nyc and this gym was clean and neat and perfect
Huge gym. And they have a climbing wall!
Clean, everything you need, great environment. No complaints. The GM Keith is incredibly helpful as well. Definitely recommend
This location of Crunch is one of my favorites. Huge gym, one of the most spacious group fitness studios, with a great selection of equipment, a variety of classes, a spin room, a yoga room, tons of machines, a climbing wall, super clean and well stocked ( shampoo, conditioner, soap, mouthwash, q-tips, blow dryer, etc) womens locker room with plenty of lockers, clean towels and a well maintained bathroom, on both levels of the gym, friendly front desk staff, its all solid good across the board.
I prefer this gym over all the crunch gyms I’ve been to in the city. There are a lot of equipments, the locker room is huge, carries both a steam room and a sauna, and the place is clean. However, the shower stalls do look pretty old so I recommend wearing slippers!
One of the best gyms I was in.
Wow, Im impressed with the shady character of this gym, Theyre refusing to refund me and charged when my membership was frozen, despicable.
I was a Crunch member on the UWS and LES from 2014-2017. I switched gyms for a couple years, but rejoined at this location this year. This is by far my favorite location. I don’t use classes—I primarily just lift and use cardio equipment. They do have an easy to use app to reserve classes, which I’ve used a couple of times if that’s what you’re looking for. This is a large gym for NYC with a decent spread of equipment. They have machines like the Nautilus glute drive, which I’d never seen in a commercial gym before. The staff are all very nice and even at peak gym hours, the crowds are manageable. Bathrooms and locker room areas are always clean and they have small and large towels available.
I live downtown and normally go to the the branch there. But the other day I had a meeting on the Eastside and decided to try this branch. Much bigger than my own branch. Also the equipment is spaced out much more and you dont bump into other people all the time. The showers are nice and clean. Altogether a nice experience though too far for me to come on regular basis.
I would give 0 star if I could. There are so many gyms in NYC. DO NOT go to Crunch. Crunch has dishonestly stolen money from me. In January 2017, my personal trainer left Crunch. At that time, I tried to get a refund of my left training sessions, but got rejected. Whats worse, the manger who promised to cancel my gym membership did not keep his promise. Crunch has been billing me since January. Their reason is that I did not file a cancellation form, but the manager did not send me one at all!!! I did not discover that Crunch has been taking $85 dollars from me per month until, I change my debit card account number. Starting from May, they started calling me EVERY DAY and claiming that I owe them membership fee. I was stunned and explained the whole story to their operation manager, money collection department. They directed me to different person who did not solve the problem at all. Today, the amount just went up from $85 to $125. After being threatened to lower my credit score, I paid the $125. I am still in the painful process to get my money back. And sharing my story with everyone to prevent others from being victims.
This Crunch Fitness has so much space, thats wonderful compared with other gyms in Manhattan that are just super squeezed with tight space. The equipment here is everything, and this location has the hack squat machine, thats a plus+ for me. This Crunch gets 5 stars for having such clean showers and gym, just excellent. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nice location spacious
The prices are reasonable for membership and the staff is friendly.
LOVE this gym! Biggest in the city and super clean
In general, it is a very nice place. Not too crowded, nice class, lots of machines. Price is also reasonable.
Sensei is the best of the best!!!
Clean place, top notch facilities. All in all great place, great instructor and great workout!
Crunch is an absolutely despicable company that steals members money. I cancelled my Crunch membership back in January due to poor customer service and a terrible personal training experience. I had a lot of training sessions left which were only refunded after obtaining a doctors note. They sent me a refund check and it bounced. The company lied and stole my money. If I could leave 0 stars I would. I was a Crunch member for 14 years. This location used to be wonderful with great staff and classes. They cut the classes and the good instructors. They also dont really go by their NO JUDGMENTS philosophy. The trainers fat shame you when they fail to do their jobs correctly. The trainers are under qualified and dont know how to treat their clients. The water is always off and the group fitness rooms smell. The yoga mats are dirty and falling apart. The management is terrible and when you have an issue they pass you off to other employees who then pass you off again. Once you pay for the membership and training packages you dont matter. There is no customer service or anyone to speak with. Beware before joining, there are tons of other gyms in the city.
Great Gym. Great access to a lot of things compared to other gyms. Great benefits. Very well maintained gym as well.
Very good gym! Huge climbing wall. Free wifi. Good variety of group fitness classes. The only downsides: showers have no personal undress / dress space, and crowded classes.
I am a new Crunch member and unfortunately, I will never go back to this location. Had I experienced this location first, I would have never signed up. I have a pretty serious injury and have trouble walking up and down stairs, one of the guys at the front desk thought it was hysterical and refused to tell me where the lockers were when I asked, the other guy at the front desk was extremely helpful though. In fact, everyone else at the gym was super friendly and helpful, staff, members - all amazing (except for the jerk at the front desk who found it hysterical that I was walking down the stairs so carefully). Much of the equipment at this location was either broken or not very usable. For example, the lightest weight you can use for a pull-up assist is 75 pounds... who can improve their pull ups with a 75 pounds?! I don’t get it - moreover, who uses a 300 pound assisted pull up? Was the equipment defective and on sale? Most of the machines are only catered to men and practically unusable for women due to height. I took a Pilates class, which was kind of a joke... this Pilates class included jumping jacks, squat jumps and high knees... The instructor tried her best and was decent, considering the class format. The yoga room smelled horrific. It smelled like a homeless person was napping in the room during class, after marinating in the sun for days. The locker room was nice, but the toilet area smelled worst than the yoga room. Take a look at some of the unusable equipment in this photo. I spoke to a trainer about my concerns and he also thought the pull-up assist issue was a joke and he explained they ordered new medicine balls... 10/10 though, I wouldn’t go back.
Clean and up to date. The sauna is just what I need after a long day at work! The staff is helpful and it is an easy commute.
The Sweatshed class series here is amazing and fills up basically within the hour of registration opening. The space is a bit tight but the instructor makes it work. The first level of the gym contains all the standard issue cardio equipment, the Sweatshed studio, a small stretching area, and some pull-up bars. The lower level is ENTIRELY for strength training, which is nice. So you have the TRX, multiple free weights, Kettlebells, and weight machines du jour. There’s enough redundancy in the equipment that you almost complete your weight training circuit without interruption.I can only speak for the women’s locker room here:- Ample number of shower stalls (I think there are at least 12)- Layout is a bit weird and non-intuitive. The steam room and sauna are tucked away behind the last row of showers, and you just sorta have to know it’s there. It’s also a long walk from the locker room area to the shower stalls and bathrooms.- Lockers and changing area is VERY spacious- Tiny bath towels! So far I think the E 59th and E 34th St. locations carry small towels in the shower area while W 19th St and FiDi carry full-sized towels- Would be nice to have q-tips
When was the last time you cleaned your showers and steam room? Its disgusting the smell in there is rancid. And those towels are pathetic. Seriously when was the last time you bought new towels? If Locker rooms ever got graded like restaurants youd get a D
Company must own a hearing aide business as well. Music is too loud. Why? Why do I have to hear your music over mine?
Great gym for building a beautiful physique. Plenty of free weights, benches, hammer strength machines, resistance machines. Big area for cardio. Youll enjoy this gym, the lighting does great for selfies.
Nice gym. Everything you could want. The other locations arent as nice or big.
The gym is a little limiting in the amount of people allowed into some of the special classes. But the real issue is that once you join should you have any real issue the staff and the corporate office is the absolute worst to deal with. Unfortunately I had to freeze my account and could not get a hold of a person for weeks. I have never experienced such poor customer service in my life. I wound up cancelling my membership and will admit I never want to join a Crunch gym again.I am sad that it was one of my worst business dealings in NYC.
Ive been going here for 2 years. The equipment is great and thats what keeps people coming. Sadly the customer service alone brings down the rating. Now the specifics:1. Thus Crunch has a very poor history of occasionally hiding equipment from its members by locking it up or worse yet, keeping it in the open and then randomly declaring it specialty equipment only for use of trainers and their clients. This bait and switch fits into their not too hidden business model of trying to coerce members to hire trainers at their exorbitant rates (on top of the $100+ youre already paying to go there).Ive had gripes with management, who always seem to route my complaints in these matters to the head trainer for some reason, who promptly points me to a clause in the member contract which paraphrased allows them carte blanche to declare ANY piece of equipment specialty and only for use of their trainers. This happened once with the sandbells and occurred again with their tractor tires.Do not be fooled: management does not care one rats ass about members who are not purchasing PT sessions. Simple as that.2. Minor issue: they cannot figure out a way to plug up their frequent leaks.3. While mopping, cleaning and towels are frequent, the shower stall walks are perpetually filthy with a foreign yellow crusty film.If you can live with these facts, its an overall pleasant place to workout. Most of the members are friendly and are there to work out with no extra drama.
This place has changed a lot since I joined approximately 3 years ago. Spin bikes have been updated, fresh paint jobs, new equipment and kitschy gear to satisfy the ever finicky workout enthusiast who thrives off of new classes to stay entertained. This particular location is one of the larger crunch locations and the only to have a rock climbing wall that I cam aware of. There is a yoga studio, a group fitness room and a spin room and a floor primarily dedicated to cardio equipment and the boxing ring. Classes are denser during weeknights based on its location, but the weekend schedule is also nothing to be sniffed at. The locker room is relatively spacious but cannot really keep up with the often stifling late night gymgoers, resulting in a mad dash to find a gym locker that has no lock AND has no clothing already inside of it (finding the former is rather easy).A few pet peeves I have with the place as it is currently are the following:1. there is no clear communication between management and front staff, so if you have a question that is something related to management and they arent there, you have to go around their schedule. If you are an early gym rat who prefers to get in and out this may be a problem for you.2. the (female) cleaning staff has a tendency to hang about in the actual shower section which makes me a little uncomfortable3. one of the current sales staff, is not the nicest, and would really benefit from a field less related to positive and friendly customer service4.there is no pool --not a real peeve as I probably wouldnt use it but just an FYIPros have managed to outweigh the cons right now which is why I still call Crunch my home. The idea of no judgements is definitely present here and is not as pretentious as other nearby gyms.
Great gym. Friendly staff and never too crowded.
Good classes,. But the air conditioning seems to be on the fritz every other week.
Awesome place, huge, spacious gym with everything you need.
This is the biggest Crunch in New York City and my favorite. They have three floors. The top floor is the entrance and you take a winding stair case down to the second floor. The top floor also has a pitstop where they have shakes, juices, and snacks. The pitstop should open at 6, but sometimes they are late. The gym opens at 5AM.The second floor has the locker rooms, a plethora of cardio machines (by plethora I mean plethora). They range from treadmills, to elliptical, to stair masters, to bikes, etc. All their equipment is pretty brand new, as they got new ones in late last year. The second floor also has a boxing ring where they have boxing classes in (you can use it any other time). They also have some free weights and some machines where you can do circuit training. The also have a pilates reformer room on the second floor. Their locker rooms are huge and have a steam room and a separate sauna room. The bottom floor is where the bulk of their free weights, machines, and hammer machines are. Everything is brand new here also. They have a vast array of weights and it really is amazing. They have 3 group class rooms here also (spin, aerobics and yoga). Although I do not do many classes, I always see the people in classes working it. Crunch is known for their classes and they do not disappoint.Overall a great gym and the upfront payment definitely makes it worth is, if you can afford it.
From the Staff, the Facilities and the Customer Service, Crunch is Crushing It!I was there on Biz Travel n Loved it!!

Great place to workout
