This review is long over due. Eric and his team could not have been better. We closed on Thursday afternoon and Eric and his team were in sanding down the floors Friday morning. Our plan was to go with a light natural floor. Upon sanding the team found out the original developer used two different color woods and sealed it over with a dark brown finish. Something we didn’t want. SOTA came up with a grey floor solution that we loved and was able to cover up the dark wood planks. I believe we moved into the apartment the following Thursday, only a week from closing despite the unforeseen curveball. Everyone who comes over compliments us on our floors. Thanks SOTA.

Eric and his team came into our historic house and did a beautiful job with our wonderful--but very challenging--heart of pine floors. He was super-attentive to getting the stain color just right, doing multiple test patches with different finishes. He worked to match colors on the random planks that were a different wood type, sanded carefully to take off a little of the floor as possible, and re-did the stairs when the work from another contractor caused problems.He was also very fair about his charges for the extra work caused by problems that were not of his making. Hes also a good communicator, who stayed in touch with me as the work progressed.I would hire him again, and have already recommended him to friends.

Overall, I had a terrific experience working with State of the Art Wood Floors. I found them at the Architectural Digest Show in Manhattan last year and reached out to them when it was time for me to purchase my wood floors. Although I was considered a very small order for them (just 500 square feet of wood), the owner, Eric, still came by my studio apartment to measure and helped me decide on the plank width, color, etc. Eric also made himself available for questions (via text!) that popped up right before installation and in the weeks that followed. The stellar customer service and access I had to having my questions answered made it a great experience for me.

I currently have the NYPD investigating the employees from this company for Grand Larceny after i was robbed during renovations. A priceless family heirloom that is almost 100 years old was taken from me (amongst other valuables). After finding their tools, instruments and a set of stained gloves in my belongings, it seems conclusive it was one of the workmen. Hire at your peril. This company is negligent and not to be trusted in your home.

I highly recommend working with SOTA. I feel so lucky that I stumbled upon them. They helped guide me through the decision process of picking hardwood flooring. They were objective and impartial, and helped me make the best decision for my needs. Then they installed the new flooring in our new apartment. This is my first time doing any kind of renovation. I worked with a contractor and SOTA. The contrast between those two relationships was striking. While my contractor was challenging to work with, Eric from SOTA was a great communicator, honest, transparent, helpful, and he frequently engaged in creative problem-solving. I could not be happier having worked with them, and the floor looks incredible. Google reviews helped me make my decision, and I hope this review can point you in the right direction as well. Eric saved my project. We had two significant setbacks with our floor installation before being introduced to Eric.Eric ran through options with us and gave us an immediate solution. Within a week he supplied and delivered to our home gorgeous 8.5 European oak floorboards.Afterward, we had complications with the floor finish. Again we called Eric, and he put a lot of time in to help brainstorm floor finishes and ensure we would love the look. I could not believe the kindness, selfless and genuine concern he showed toward my family and my home.

There are flooring contractors and then there is Eric Herman at State of the Art Flooring. I’m pleased to say that Eric is a cut above all the other contractors out there. My situation involved a failed refinishing of a floor as a result of having a difficult wood to stain (Beech). To determine how best to fix the problem I interviewed 5 different contractors and only Eric promised that he could solve it. But more importantly, only Eric was willing to make the effort to understand what had gone wrong previously and then invest the time experimenting with different solutions. He did not less than 20 samples in his laboratory and 8 samples on sight. When one approach wasn’t working, he switched gears and spent several hours on the phone with the manufacturer of a product that ultimately worked. Eric might cost more than other contractors, but he is worth every penny! I wholeheartedly recommend him and his firm.

We had a week to get new floors installed into our newly purchased co-op before it was time to move in. Eric Herman the president of SOTA floors personally came to see us and make his recommendations. The next day my husband and I went to choose our engineered hardwood floor at the showroom...Laura, was there to walk us though all of our choices. She patiently helped us mill through a bunch of floor choices. Once we made our choice the floor was ordered and Erics foreman, Joe and his crew, worked to complete the job in 4 days. The job was not only completed in 4 days but it was done beautifully. We have already gotten compliments on our new floors and would not hesitate to recommend this team to neighbors and friends.
