We had a great almost sunset summer sail (5:30-7) last night. The staff were so friendly and it was really lovely to be out on the water on such a hot night. We basically took the boat to the Statue of Liberty, hung out in the area around there and then came back to the Marina.

Very boring trip. 90 minutes with 45 minutes standing in front of the Statue of Liberty. Sails were up for no reason, motor was still on all the time. Kids running around w no supervision. Beer was $8 a can. Jazz guitar music w bad vocal. Yacht is in good shape, but lack of seating. No, will not recommend.

Took the Shearwaters Brunch Sail a few weekends ago and am still reminiscing about it. Which lead to a recent sail on Clipper City to just get back on the water!! Shearwater is a smaller ship, but you feel more connected to the water and the voyager spirit definitely feels in full swing. Ive done Clipper for 4 sails (that I can recall!) but this was the first time on Shearwater. We will be back!! It was really a joy to see the city from the water. Met some wonderful people celebrating birthdays and a couple on their last day of living in NYC. Its a peaceful, beautiful and humbling experience to sail with this great crew. And I havent even MENTIONED THE BRUNCH. Come with an appetite! Seriously. I just thought itd be a simple thing but they come around with multiple courses of brunch items (I wont ruin the surprise for you ;). Our bartender was awesome (dressed like Johnny Depp ;) and was all about you vocalizing when you wanted a refill. Dont be shy! It was a wonderful experience. Cant wait to return. Thanks Manhattan by Sail team!!

My underage sister and I were left behind by the boat even though we arrived at 1:30 and 30 secs pm for a boat ride scheduled at 1:30. The boat was still on the dock and the ropes had not yet been taken off. All they needed to do was let us through the gate, but they refused. Absolutely heartless that these people would not wait ten more seconds for two children.

Really enjoyed our clipper trip which lasted about 2 hours. Excellent views of downtown NewYork and statue of liberty. Weather was good so not too choppy. Seating is haphazard- sit where you can as long as youre not in crews way so dont expect comfy chairs! Oh and dont think drinks are in with price cos theyre not😩

Everything about this experience was excellent, the boat was not crowded and we had enough room to laydown and stretch out. The views and intimate pictures you can take made it so much more worthwhile. The crew are knowledgeable and friendly, too.Dont waste your time with any other harbour cruise.

Really good experience. We totally lucked out with the conditions - perfect for sailing! The only downside was I expected the crew to be more interactive and professional. Instead I spent the 90min sail listening to one crew member (who wasnt working) giving her life story to the captain.

Nice trip out around liberty island on a 1929 built sail boat. Not too many people on board and drinks seemed reasonably priced. Good view of Manhattan. If you just want the view, get the Statan island ferry for free, if you want a bit of style, go for this. We got it included in a sightseeing pass, not sure Id pay the usual $45 + tip

This was one of the amazing experience in NYCIts a wooden boat which really creaks (or makes that sound). We must be a 30-40 people and at one point we thought we wont fit in. But we fit in comfortably. They have beer and wine onboard. And best part is silent sailing without any sound apart of creaks and water. It makes a trip around statue of liberty and returns. Great view of manhattan with lights. Would totally recommend.

This is one of the first activities we did on our recent trip to NYC and it surpassed our expectations! I surprised my boyfriend (who actually became my fiance on this trip - he proposed the next day!) and he was blown away, as was I. We did the Happy Hour Sail, which was incredibly beautiful and relaxing. The staff was so friendly and helpful, especially the bartender. There were only a few other people on the boat with us, which we enjoyed since it wasnt over crowded or too noisy - it was easy to sit back, relax, and enjoy our sail. The happy hour drink specials were great. We enjoyed a bottle of champagne for only $16. Id definitely recommend this activity to anyone looking for a unique, affordable experience in NYC they wont soon forget. Ill definitely make it a habit to go on another sail when were back in the area. Amazing! Id give it more than five stars if I could.

Lovely trip but asked for credit card details as reassurance when booking. We had the trip and was told the credit card wouldnt be charged as long as we showed up and it has been charged. My partner has called them to be refunded which will take 3 to 5 working days and we will be home then. Its just not good enough. Admin are the ones who have let this trip down not the crew.

When we visit cities built on the sea side, we always go for a boat or ferry trip. This was a very enjoyable and relaxing one. We got upgraded for free to the sunset sail, after the larger sister clipper broke earlier in the day. The staff were really friendly and professional. They keep you safe but make sure you have fun, and pretty much let you take photos all over the boat. It sails close to the Statue of Liberty, gives a nice view of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge - and we enjoyed an awesome red sunset. You can bring your own food on board (Shake Shack :) and they have a good selection of drinks. I would heartily recommend this trip, it definitely leaves a happy memory. One thing to watch out for - the Google Map location is exactly correct but on their own leaflet it points to the other side of the marina, which resulted in a bewildered sprint for us, and should be made more accurate! (FYI, if you do go on the bigger sister ship, you can get a 25% discount using the Smart Destinations build your own city pass, but its not available for this schooner).

While the sail was amazing (great winds the day we went), the business transaction was terrible. First off, we call the Shearwater to make a reservation (using our Go Pass). They tell us to book online and put in a credit card to reserve the date/time. So we do this. Then we check in at the dock on time. They scan our Go pass as we board and look at the reservation and tell us we are good to go (seems to me that the Go pass worked and we are good to go).A week later I look at my credit card statement and see $110 FULL charge for two tickets? What gives? So I call. They tell me that the Go pass was not good for the Sunset Sail that we went on. Ok, then WHY would you scan the passes at the dock, and WHY wouldnt you tell the NYC tourist that your pass is only good for 50% off the full price unless you do a daytime sail??? Bait and switch? Not only this, but they didnt apply the 50% off to my the fee charged to my credit card. Basically, they scan the go pass so they can charge the GO pass people, but not give the user ANYTHING. They shouldnt have even needed to scan the pass, and a good employee would say, you cant use the pass for the sunset cruise at that moment. Not AFTER you look at your credit card a week later. So I looked at the delta in the pricing for a sunset sail and a daytime or city lights cruise. The sunset cruise is SHORTER and costs $5 more than the daytime cruise. So basically, they get people on the fact that it is peak demand and that they THINK they get the sunset cruise included when really it isnt.Could have been a great cruise and experience, but was ruined by poor customer support and staff. Very disappointed and would not recommend.

Excellent service, take Dramamine before if you get motion sickness as you feel the boat a little, crew was efficient friendly and extremely timely! No snacks available during the trip only drinks, goes out the Statue of Liberty and back which takes 90mins, bring a sweater, wear soft soles shoes like sneakers or boat shoes, no heels or boots as this ruins the deck, arrive 25 mins early as the check in and line up takes time, the boat leaves PROMPTLY! Have fun!

Its probably something we should do more ourselves but I always recommend to friends and family who are visiting NYC. Its a great way to experience NYC from a different perspective. I always get great reports from our friends who have taken the time to enjoy a sail on the hudson river. A number of great options which include Sunset Sail, Statue Of Liberty, Happy Hour, Brunch and July 4th Fireworks to name a few. Its a CASH bar once onboard. #batteryparkliving #greattouristspot #boatingnyc #boattoursnyc #realestate #duncanschieb

What makes New York so attractive to me? You never know what the city will have in store for the next surprise! Every day brings a new perspective on things. This time it was often the weather that brought us beautiful and extraordinary moments. There was sailing, for example, on the historic sailing ship “Shearwater”. Days before I had chosen the best weather day, but it happened as it had to ... At our appointment, Petrus was probably indisposed. The meticulously selected, extensively researched SONNENTAG - turned out to be a rainy day. So our lunch trip was postponed to the afternoon. At 2 p.m. it was no longer raining like buckets, it was just drizzling slightly. These weather conditions, otherwise referred to as “bad weather”, enchanted Manhattan on this day with a wonderful, slightly morbid scenery - with idiosyncratic charm. We were impressed by the weather alone. Ive never seen New York like this in all these years. At the beginning of our trip, a few rays of sun even broke through the clouds. The ship, a 25m long two-masted sailing yacht from the Great Gatsby era (1920), sailed towards the Statue of Liberty. The schooner was built as the personal yacht of New York industrialist Charles E. Dunlap. At the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s he even sailed around the world once. Now the ship brings sailing enthusiasts from the North Cove Marina (Battery Park City) to the southern tip of Manhattan and Liberty Lady.I dont know whether it was because of the unique setting or the almost private atmosphere (because of the weather we only had five sailors). It was a really wonderful 90 minutes on the water, with great views of the skyline and the Statue of Liberty and a good glass of white wine (free). Highly Recommended!
