I usually never write reviews... but this time I had to. My son is 3 years old and he’s so terrified of barbers and haircuts. His hair grows fast and we constantly have to go to a barbershop. So far we have changed 4 solons...but finally found a perfect one!!! It’s a first time my son had an amazing experience. Lady that cut my sons hair was so professional and patient. I showed her a picture of a hairstyle I wanted and she did exactly as she was told and she was able to give my child all attention he needed. Would definitely recommend this place!

I received what had to have been the worst haircut of my life from here. I showed a very specific picture of what I wanted, asked for the length on the top of my hair to not be touched and then the woman cutting my hair completely ignored it. I asked for about 3 to 4 inches of length to stay at the top. She cut it down to half an inch and I had to tell her to stop cutting. She took multiple phone calls while she did my hair and had airpods in the entire time. To top it off, the haircut was $30. Never again.

Been coming here for over a year now, even before I moved to NYC full time. Alexs attention to detail is unbeatable. Been to a lot of barbers in the city and other areas but no one quite gets it as good as Alex does. I travel from the UWS to Chelsea just to get my cut from this pro every 2 weeks without ever missing a beat. I know that every time I go in for a cut I feel confident that Ill walk out with just the haircut I wanted. I recommend this place to all of my friends and my friends have just as great of a haircut experience. The online booking platform makes it super easy to book an appt in advance without any troubles to make for an efficient use of time. Im from out of town, and needed to get a haircut (badly). While doing touristy things, I looked at every barbershop I passed, and Prime was the first (of many) I passed that looked clean and professional. I went in and got a haircut/shave with Dan. He was nice, professional and helpful. Most importantly, he gave my an amazing haircut. When I mentioned that I was from out of town, he asked me if I saw the prices. He wanted to make sure I was aware of the prices, which were higher than where I am from. It was $50 for a haircut/shave, which seemed reasonable for NYC, and was worth every penny. Id say this was my favorite haircut Ive ever gotten.If Im ever in NY and need a haircut, I would not hesitate to come back to Prime Barbershop at all!

Ive been coming here since I moved to NYC. I almost always get my hair cut with Alex. Hes professional and polite, and somehow he remembers how I like my hair cut even though I only go once every 2-3 months (I can never remember).

I don’t know, man. It wasn’t for me. I’m willing to pay more for more attention to my haircut. It’s fine if you need a barber, but I’m looking for a bit more thought and consideration about how the job is being done. I don’t want to be rude of course, but I’d say it’s a solid middle of the road shop.

I went in about a month back asking for a trim. Only got the sides cut. I figured that was only the first step of the cut, but then the woman said I was done, never having touched the top of my head.Im giving 3 stars for half the work because the top still looked good from my last haircut. Other than the split ends I now have, I dont look messed up or anything. It was just a lot of money to pay for HALF a haircut.

I hesitate to ever give anyone a bad review but I left here pretty unhappy with my haircut.Pros:- Easy to get an appointment or can just walk-in- Relatively inexpensive at $25- Quick haircutCons:- My hair is very straight and any unevenness really shows and there was A LOT of unevenness.- I think the unevenness was primarily a cause of a casual attitude and lack of attention to detail.- The lady asked what number I wanted on the side, I said I didnt know and she pulled out a #2 and started cutting before I could even say anything. It was shorter than I would have asked for but it was too late.Over all, if you just want a cheap, utilitarian cut, this place might be fine but Ive had better experiences at other places, for the same price or less.Edit regarding the reply: Sorry, you must be mistaking me for someone else. There was no picture of any kind and we didnt discuss fades. I dont know what youre talking about. Regardless, Ive removed my reference to a different inexpensive barber shop; I dont want to appear to have ulterior motives.

This is a great place to get a haircut. They take care of you, no matter if youre a walk in or not. I would go weekdays after work on my walk home. Usually only had to wait a bit but I would always be on time for my train. Im sad because I got a new job and have to find a new barber. Thank you Alex!

Got the worst haircut of my life here tonight, seriously. And this was my second time there... First haircut there was just ok, but I went back because everybody deserves a 2nd chance, right? Big mistake. Before he started the cut, I showed the guy pictures that my old barber (who moved away) took after he had given me the perfect haircut, and told him the razor guard length #s for the back & sides, top, etc. Still, this guy just drunk-blind-weed-whacker-butchered my haircut. The only good news about it: hair grows back eventually.

I moved back to Chelsea recently, and needed to find a new barber. I have been to a number of them especially in the 7th & 8th Ave areas, but they were either really haphazard, too busy, or too pricey. I happened upon Alex @ Prime Barber Shop on 9th Ave, a few blocks north of me. The prices were certainly reasonable, the shop was new, fresh and very clean and comfortable. Alex is a gentleman, conversant if you engage, and consistently gives an exacting and fantastic haircut. Im thrilled to finally find my new barber! Ive been back 4 times since, and still a consistently great cut. Thanks Alex!
