Very clean. Nice variety of equipment. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I signed up for a personal trainer and have been working with Dan -he’s great and has helped me to make a lot of progress and to see results. Highly recommended!

When a gym has no rules, chaos evolves. This management has no clue abt how to run a gym. You have members taking two machines at a time thereby, not allowing others to use the machines. I have been to several Retro Fits throughout the east coast and I assure you,the rule is “one machine per member”is the proper way to allow all members the use of machines. The unprofessionalism is astounding, and quite frankly,if this is how you run a gym, you most definitely won’t survive. Plenty of other gyms in the area, I suggest you look elsewhere

Clean and has all the equipment needed for my workout routine. Not that crowded in the morning when I go so I am able to maintain social distancing.

Retro has everything you need — free weights, machines, classes — all at a reasonable monthly fee. It’s never crowded — busy, but not crowded — and the staff is overly focused on making sure everyone wears their masks. If you’re looking for a good workout place and don’t feel like lightening your wallet too much, Retro Fitness is the place.

Lost 100 lbs by going to this gym. definitely recommend.

I liked the gym, it has a lot of equipment however I had to freeze my membership because of the pandemic (there are people in my house that are high risk and I wouldn’t want to take a chance). When I got my membership it was for two so I gave the second to my sister. But three months later the pandemic happened and i froze both our accounts (the staff confirmed that they were both frozen!). Later I got a call asking if she would like to extend her membership because it was over. I gave them a call saying that they’re frozen and I was told that it was a one year promo and they can’t freeze the promo account. So a lot of contradictions— and a waste of my money at that point. Today I woke up to a 60 dollar charge which I was never told about. They said it was the annual fee. I said my account has been frozen...I haven’t been there- that doesn’t make sense. But I can’t do anything. On top of that, I was told that I would have to call monthly to continue to freeze my account (which is just their way of tricking people into losing their money- it was not this way before). Now I have so much more to worry about. And ofc I can’t cancel my account because the one year membership is not over. and even that I have to cancel a month in advance because again— it’s a trap for them to get your money. It’s just very disappointing especially since we’re in a pandemic....I wish I could just cancel and be done with it but if I unfreeze my account 300 will go to waste— I’m a student I can’t afford that. My suggestion- find another gym.

Very clean, good equipment and lax environment where you can just focus on your lifts and get a good pump.

Very unprofessional staff and did not follow pandemic guidelines. Dont even think about going to this retro fitness during this pandemic, I went in after they reopened and had to write my name down and was asked to stand in a line with a few other people and wait to work out because they were at capacity..which is understandable considering the pandemic. But why make people wait on a line? No one was social distancing and I dont see anyone cleaning down the equipment. I left and went home because of the wait time and the staff had no idea how long I would be waiting. I suggested to the manager Ashley to be more considerate of peoples time, money and safety and at least use an online sign up or something so that no one has to wait when they get to the gym. I had to cancel my membership because I was moving and they charged me double one month, I called and asked the manager why and she explains that my credit card did not recognize the charge so it charged me double. ??? Never ever heard of that ever happening with a credit card and that credit card has had no problem in the past. She said it happened to many other people as well..okay fine if it did how come no one told me? how come I had to call you to ask for a refund? Had I not looked at my credit card statement and realized, they would have just charged me double that month. Be careful of these people taking your money and then coming up with an excuse later.

Earlier this morning, Henry at the front desk, walked up to the treadmill I was using and told me I was wearing the wrong face mask, even though I had checked in with him less than an hour earlier! He wanted me to stop my workout immediately. I have never had any other staff members bring up an issue with my face covering before. I finished two minutes later, and Henry proceeded to follow me into the locker room until I left! I have been a member of this gym for over three years, and have never been treated like this! Management needs to speak to him immediately as the way he acted was completely unprofessional!

Ive been a member since this Retro has opened over ten years ago and theyve never let me down with friendly helpful staff, equipment and cleanliness . Now, with COVID, they are strict with the guidelines & have given me a safe place in the midst of madness!

I just joined Retro Fitness in New City, NY almost 2 months ago. It is the 1st gym I have ever joined and so far I absolutely love it. The facility is always very clean, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful and always there to help with any questions I may have. I joined the gym for reasons such as losing weight, living a healthier lifestyle, and doing something for myself to feel good about myself, and Ive already in the short period Ive been a member experienced these things. I was given a free fitness evaluation, which was extremely helpful and motivating. Since the evaluation, which was about 2 weeks after joining, and taking the personal trainers advice, Ive lost almost 15lbs and feel great. I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone. The only thing I would really like would be if the gym were open 24 hours or if at least they were open later on the weekends. I know there are other gyms that are 24 hours, but I am very comfortable and happy at Retro so I wont be leaving any time soon! I just wish they were open later on the weekends.

New City is the best retro and one of the best gyms Ive ever been to. Its maintained very well. Never walked into the bathroom a mess, the equipment is in great condition, staff is very attentive. Two racks for squats/deadlifts but its rarely too busy to not be able to use during a workout. Theyve got pretty much everything I could need for all of my workouts. Shakes are great too.

I have been a member since it opened and have seen many changes over the years. All for the better. The bathrooms and the entrance by front desk have an odor. I would prefer if it smelled better, but still the closest gym to where I live and very convenient.

It’s a very good place. Machines are clean. Not to overcrowded. Everyone there is nice. The only problem I have with it is the closing time. I think it closes way to early on weekends. Other then that I love it

They offer a wide variety of equipment and personal training programs. Terry Roland is an excellent Manager who goes out of his way to make sure everything is going well. I had to change my 5 star review to 4 stars because they do not and will not offer mid-morning to mid-afternoon classes for those of us who do not like zumba or yoga.

Plenty of equipment and free-weights available. Machines break down as they normally do but they are promptly fixed. There are always other available equipment one can use. Lockers are adequate. Restrooms need a lot of attention though. Most staff members are friendly. Some are not. But that should not affect your workout. Due to the abundant equipment I wish the place is bigger. Popular hours of any given day can be packed but thats typical of any gym. The patrons are friendly. Mostly local residents. Not a lot of douchebags which is a plus.

Went here on a trial pass. Good equipment, friendly workers, and experienced trainers- but poor ventilation! They have the best deal around but gyms have a smell and I seem to be the only one who cant handle it-glad to know that retro fitness is addressing it

This is one the the bigger gyms in the franchise in Rockland county. Well maintained and full of equipment I like working out here. Clean bathrooms and clean equipment. Lots of space.

The place is a dump. The water fountain doesn’t work half the time and the cable machines are constantly “being repaired”. Do yourself a favor and check out the 24 hour fitness nearby. You’ll be happy you did.They also screwed something up on billing, tried to get me to pay for months I had already cancelled and then put a negative report on my Credit over $50 which they had created out of nowhere as a “late fee”. The owner is clearly a crook.

I had been a member for this gym for over 2 years, over the last year though, due to a change in job and changing location, I was no longer able to continue on with the gym. I had heard horror stories about cancelling with the gym, but this was not the case. The manager Samantha was beyond helpful and truly a delight. She mad the process simple and easy and I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Definitely a great staff at New City!

The gym was clean and had great equipment. The staff was horrible. I came as a guest and waited 30 minutes for the girl at the front desk to stop flirting with a gym member. I got frustrated and just walked in and no on said anything. So if you want a free work out just go there. My purpose at the gym was to show a friend how to do some of the workouts that is in her program that she has never done. The reason i had to go is because the staff wouldnt help her unless she signed up with a personal trainer. While in the gym one of the trainers told me i could train people in the gym. So I said how am I training her if she is following this online work out from a trainer. He got an attitude and told me I couldnt be in the gym with sandals on but didnt have a problem the 30 other times he walked passed me with a client. So they wont help you learn to use the equipment and others cant show you how to use the equipment. So how are you supposed to learn safely without hurting yourself? Oh thats right pay them more money to get a trainer to help you. Biggest hustle in the world. I have never been to a gym where you had to pay the staff to answer your questions. Glad New York Sports Club was 10 minutes away. Will definitely sign her up at my gym.

I have been going to retro for a little over a year, but today something really special happened. I had to fix a billing problem (on my end) and i met mike and terry. While we worked through the problem, I was offered smoothies and they were so helpful and cheerful. Made it as easy as can be. Thank you !

Loud, non-stop gang music including whining male and female voices. Its good for their clientele which undoubtedly likes it. In any case, they will not turn it down. Even noise cancelling Bose and Sony headphones cannot block the noise. Since the noise interfered with my audio, I cancelled and signed up with 24 hour fitness in Nanuet. Their music level does not break through my Bose or Sony headphones, so I am not disturbed during workout.

Watch Out! These SCANS ARTISTS did two different contracts for me and my husband, when I cancel my contract without problems, but my husband who works and gets 70% outside the city can not cancel his contract, hopefully, we froze the contract, returned it explain his situation without no solution, there is no sense to be a member of a GYM without reside and stay only paying indefinitely. I cancel this blood sucks, now they send our name to bad credit, after all attempts to amicable cancel this contract that we pay and never use.

They are constantly updating equipment, types of areas to work out & offer classes as well so that there is something for everyone!!

The staff is great, equipment great. The gym is filthy. The same dirt, hair and grim on the showers week after week. A locker had been broke for over a year. The movie room has a layer of dirt and trash near and under the elliptical machines. This has to be a violation of the health code. Please hire a cleaning service. This filth really ruins my experience, its not good enough to just address surface dirt

This gym offers so much for every type of fitness level. The classes are seemingly available all the time with their virtual app inside. There are several different spaces designated for your style of working out. The only thing stopping the fifth star from appearing is simply being spoiled. My prior Retro gym had a much larger media room. Other than that I am very happy with the decision I made to pick this gym. New City Retro, definitely a winner.

Joined this gym about a month ago and I love it. The people there are so nice and its not a place that I feel intimidated by. Also, I am in love with their smoothies....the dirty peanut is the best!

I was a member of Pomona Retrofitness and I used Newcity Gym few times, the facility was good, but whenI cancelled the membership on November 19 th 2018 at Pomona but they said they will charge for December also because of not having 30 days notice, but charges me January too because I used New city Retro fitness few times, NowThey says will charge me February because not having 30 days notice period . The multiple times entry to gym is a trick .

Ive been a member for almost a year at Retro in New City. Today I had a problem with the account due to my expired credit card. So I was hit with a service charge. The gentleman behind the counter reversed the fee with out a problem and updated my new credit card very efficiently. The service and the gym itself is worth it. I highly recommend this gym.

Once you sign up, they put you through the coals to get out. Horrible customer service, especially from the manager. They dont return calls, dont respond to faxes sent to cancel membership. I had to call them atleast 8 times and was given different reasons. Facilities are OK, wouldnt sign here at this gym.

I like the variety of equipment, the fact that most of the gyms have a movie room if I forget my iPod, and the freedom to go to other gyms that are off my work commute.

Theres plenty of different workout equipment and the weights go from light to heavy so its easy to move up. The staff is always helpful and available.

I have been at this gym since it opened and I am one of the original members . This gym has changed drastically in last year since the past owner. I only go to the gym because its local. Since I still go there the saying goes if you have nothing nice to say dont say it at all. Google keeps asking me to review this place. Honestly I am so frustrated with this place I dont even want to write a rating for them it would not be a good one.

Compared to the Retro fitness in Mohegan lake New York, this place is far more spacious.

Ive been a member for over a year and this is a great gym. The value is hard to beat and the customers are a big step up from the riff raff at Planet Fitness in Nanuet. You have a mix of local high school athletes, soccer Moms and free weight guys. They all seem to be there to work out and stay out of your way for the most part. The staff has a couple of meathead types, but overall they are very helpful (*Shout out to James! Hes awesome.*) The gym itself is clean, well lit, and the machines are in great shape. You never have to wait for a machine which is the key to a good gym. The babysitting, smoothie bar, and tanning are all nice additions for a slight additional cost. Overall, I highly recommend this gym. It doesnt cost the ludicrous $$$ of private gyms in the area, but isnt akin to Planet Fitness and its strange employees/smell.

Love this place ! The owner, Samantha, is awesome . All of the employees are extremely polite and helpful. But the real reason I love this retro fitness is the Zumba, MMA AND YOGA Classes are awesome. The instructors are amazing !! The Cardio class on Fridays with Katie are just the absolute best (I need more) but I also love Zumba with Jenny, Yoga with Sandy and MMA with Jami.. Place is clean !!!! You wouldnt imagine how many other gyms are nasty but this one has never been anything other than clean and I go 3-5 days a week so I should know.
