Immediately upon walking in, we were advised that we needed clean shows. Mind you. This was a sunny day with a temperature of 65 degrees. Our shoes were not dirty. After being harassed about our shoes, we were then told we set off the alarms and our keys didn’t work for this gym. After the guy went and investigated what happened. He came back and told us that they do not participate in membership for individuals who work for other anytime fitness locations… so if you work for the chain, you can’t come to this location. Which is incredibly discriminatory. So if your all for discrimination, continue to go here. Otherwise go elsewhere.*update* to the owner. I went into your facility with my wife. She was not training me in “your” gym. So no, this was not the case in this situation. You need to stop spitting false facts.
This is a fantastic, clean, and private gym! The staff are very knowledgeable and welcoming, greeting you at the door and taking an honest interest in your goals. You are more than just a number here and they are very encouraging! The owner takes great care of members and is dedicated to maintaining a culture that makes you feel safe, a refreshing experience since not all gyms take this very seriously! Awesome facility, even better people. Look no further!
Great workout environment! Mike went above and beyond to get me access to the gym and ensure my fob was working when I left it at my home gym (visiting from a different state). You can tell that the staff working here take care of the facility -- equipment and bathrooms are always spotless. And they are friendly as well. :)I really appreciate the service and look forward to working out here the next time I am in town!
I have been a member here for about 5 years, and before this I was in and out of gyms in many states, and military bases. This gym has been a great experience, with a staff to match. The gym is always clean, equipment is in near perfect condition, with very rarely anything ever having to be fixed. It is an amazing gym for those who don’t like the big crowds and loud gyms. If you like to get in and workout with out having to be hassled or waiting in line this is the gym.
The pros are if you want a clean/private gym, this is for you in my opinion. I’d give a 5/5 for the cleanliness of the gym and it being a private gym. However, I’m not a fan of the owner which is why I give this location a 2. I’ve been disrespected on the phone by him a few times and in my opinion, it’s not what good customer service should be. I was hung up on when I asked when my membership was going to end. Also for me, he’s extremely pushy as a person. Some people may need that to be held accountable. But that’s too much for me.After I paid off my membership in full 2 months ago (membership currently ends in December), what was left, ahead of time, I asked about personal training for any day since I have until December to use my membership (knowing he has 2-4 personal trainers). Mike said “all are booked at this time” and it was shut down with no recommendations until even December of possible openings in anyone’s schedule. Benefit of the doubt, timing could just be a coincidence where there’s no openings after I end my membership in a few months. Or maybe it’s not a coincidence. I will not know. But if your someone looking for personal training at a gym, right now it seems really hard to book and seems like no one is available any time soon. That’s a major reason I signed up for this gym. The easy access to trainers if needed/ wanted to book. Never had an issue in the past. Guess it’s just bad timing for personal training. But again, if your strictly looking for a clean/private gym, this gym is for you! That’s the main reason I chose it from day one. And that Im being completely honest about
Location is clean and such but it sucks that GMs from other locations cannot workout here without paying a $20 fee. It would be nice if that could be on the website or something since we promote being able to use multiple locations.
There are many reviews that say you have to change your shoes before beginning your workout. That is true of all anytime fitness gym’s. However, it’s not enforced in many. They do enforce it here especially right now during times of Covid-19. I believe the angry reviews left were by people who projecting anger towards something that did not need such rudeness. Mike was unbelievably nice since the very first time I met him. As well as trainer’s that work at this facility. Never had a bad experience. Incredibly clean. Rarely gets busy when I go.
In the last 6 months Ive had the pleasure of getting to know the team from Anytime Fitness Naperville. Mike, Danny, Joe & Nico are some of the most positive, motivated people you can hope to meet.If you are looking for a trainer who understands you and truly wants to see you succeed, I highly recommend the team at Anytime. Exceptional service, communication and training, youll feel like a friend not just a client.
I have been a member at this gym for almost 3 years and I love it just as much as I did when I signed up. I absolutely love Mike’s policies at the gym regarding things like cleanliness, loud grunting and slamming weights. I always know what I getting out of every visit as someone who is a gym nut I also cannot stand those things so I appreciate his ways. I also love the staff they are very knowledgeable with any question I’ve ever had about a workout posture etc. I also train with Danny. He has helped me so much and is very good at what he does. He is flexible to your lifestyle and listens to what your goals are for each sessions. He makes sure you get the most out of his sessions along with helping with an at home plan for the days we can’t make it to the gym. I’ve enjoyed this gym and this staff more than any I have in the past with any other gym. I will continue to renew my membership!
This is a great facility! I have been a member for over a year now and couldnt be happier. This place is so clean! And the rules make you feel safe during these times. You must wear clean shoes in the facility, wipe down machines, and wear a mask. In addition, you must make a reservation so the club is not over-crowded during this time of Covid. Its been very easy to workout conveniently and safely. All of these precautions make me feel very safe about working out in a gym. Mike is a great guy who knows his customers like family. Nico is an awesome trainer! Joe is a stand-up guy. Everyone is so friendly and nice. It really makes going to work out enjoyable. I dont think Ive every worked out in a cleaner club. Thanks to all the staff!
The dirtiest yet. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone with asthma. Dude has the dustiest blinds ever. Could barely breathe while using a treadmill. Also owner is a scam artist. Whom probably hates his life based on how he talks to people.Feel sorry for anyone who’s close to this guy bc clearly he needs mental help.
Danny has helped me tremendously to achieve my goals including weight loss, building muscle and healthy eating. He uses a wholistic approach to achieving success by focusing on sticking with your exercise routine, tracking your food intake, meditation and identifying good self care! He can be tough but always in a well meaning way!😉He’s my son too🤗❤️
All of the employees are very nice! Joe is a great trainer with much experience and is very helpful. If I could rate more than 5 stars, I would rate it as many as there can be. Great business everyone is nice and it is very clean. Thumbs up!!!!
I have been a member here since October, and have been thrilled with my experience. It is clean, comfortable and completely in line with keeping its members safe during this time. I have been a member of a gym for a long time from Lifetime to Xsport, and this place is top notch. Mike knows everyone and treats everyone with great respect. I have been to other area Anytime Fitness gyms, and they cannot even come close to how well this one is run.
Anytime Fitness on Rickert is an amazing facility and Mike, the owner is a stand up guy who manages the location well and is dedicated to the members. He keeps a Christmas tree in the lobby area during the holidays and underneath are the Christmas cards of past and current members and their families, and id eager to say he could tell you the names of every person in each picture. His facility is always spotless and clean, and the staff are friendly-faced and inviting. Mike and the Anytime staff have worked tirelessly throughout this entire pandemic to ensure that gym-goers have a safe haven to call home that is warm and enjoyable, while also remaining safe and COVID cautious. You won’t find a better gym with better people.
The owner, Michael Allen Starck, is easily the RUDEST, most unprofessional person I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. People go the the gym to feel good and relieve stress, not to be harassed by an angry little man with a Napoleon complex. I would NEVER go back to this gym, and I strongly recommend no one in their right mind ever go here. The owner is a certified, insane, lunatic. Read the other negative reviews, I believe they are all true and paint the picture of a very DISTURBED man running this place. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY.
If you are in search of a quality gym, you have finally found one! Anytime Fitness in Naperville off of Rickert Road is a CLEAN, SUPPORTIVE and FRIENDLY gym. This is the gym for me. I have held memberships at LifeTime and Planet Fitness and let me tell you that they do not compare to this Anytime Fitness. The staff is extremely supportive; something that I have never experience at either of the Gyms I had previously frequented. The Owner for one is not only supportive, but also encourages you to reach your fitness goals. Never has anyone at either LifeTime nor Planet Fitness personally reached out to me to see how my experience has been. If you are the type that needs validation, join this gym!The gym is kept super clean. You will not ever find dirty machines or dumbbells misplaced. The staff works proficiently and the members each do their part to keep the gym clean. From each of my visits to this gym I have never felt intimated or unwelcome. Each member that I have interacted with has always been extremely friendly and considerate of each other; the ultimate environment for anyone who feels as though gyms are intimating. This Anytime Fitness has all of the equipment you will need from machines to free weights to resistance machines. On top of that they have a separate room in which you can utilize to stretch or just if you want some additional privacy (I personally use it to stretch and warm-up). They offer additional events and private training, all you have to do is ask.Support small business by enrolling in a membership. The rates are affordable and the staff is incredible.I am so happy to have finally found a gym that works for me. P.S. They are 24/7!!!
Mike is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Not only did I feel welcome at all times at this gym, the staff is friendly and cooperative. I enjoy going to this gym because of the professionalism and cleanliness; I’ve never felt more at home! Everyone should go here!
After being a member at the ymca for years Pre-COVID I decided I needed to find a gym with better hours as theirs were still very limited during this time. Anytime fitness seemed like an obvious answer and my brother had been a member previously so I decided to take a tour. When scheduling a tour I received an immediate response and was able to get in right away. The facility is absolutely spotless and there are only ever a few people working out at once so you never have to wait for a machine or equipment. I’m someone who does a lot of exercises on a yoga mat so I especially loved that there’s an entire studio you can use. Even on my first day working out at the gym the owner, Mike, introduced himself and welcomed me to the gym. All the staff is super friendly and the environment is very calm. I immediately came home and told my family how nice the gym and staff was and that they need to join as well. Honestly, I feel like the price is a steal for how private and luxe the facility is. I can’t recommend enough!
I’ve always had a great experience with this gym (been a member since at least 2012). Glad to have this facility in my area and happy to know the owner takes pride and care in his business and members. Rock on Mike!
I visited this location because they had a promotion on Facebook for a few 30 day trial. Its close to my home, I have friends who week out here and I am at a point Of like to start back to fitness since COVID restrictions are lifted. I filled out the form that I was directed to from the FB post scheduled my time online and then got a confirmation call. Great! Got to the facility did the tour, sat down to look at membership options asked about the 30 day promotion, I figured if I signed a 6 month promotion Id get 7 month free or something...but was told, Sorry I gave that out this morning. I said, well thats what brought me in, the gym director jumped up escorted me abruptly to the door. I commented this feels a little bait and switchy, and he said... you can leave go get healthy someplace else. Annnnd so I did. Since posting my experience on FB and Twitter and contacting the BBB. Ive heard some incredible negative experiences of this location and the owner.
The cleanest gym I have ever been a part of! You must bring “clean” gym shoes in for every work out and required to wipe down equipment and this was pre-covid rules. The owner Mike, is so friendly and knows every member by name. If you want a personal family like experience this is the gym for you! Well maintained and always spotless in terms of cleanliness!
Don’t make the mistake of letting a family member use the bathroom… they try to charge you 250 for it!!
Clean, private health club with a friendly and professional staff.
Anytime Fitness on Rickert Dr in Naperville has been my gym for the last 7 years. I don’t live in state but I am here once a month and it’s worth every penny to be a member here. Great equipment, great space, always impeccably clean. Mike adds a personal touch and I believe he knows every single member by first name on sight. I do my own routine, but Danny Gustin is one of the personal trainers on staff and he probably saved me an injury with some thoughtful observations of how I was executing an exercise. Above and beyond is what this place is all about. A+.
Nicest anytime fitness i have been to
I am a fitness competitor that grew up in the area of this gym. Being a fitness competitor I have been to hundreds of gyms throughout my years and never has an experience like I did with this one. I am an Anytime Fitness member and happened to be in the area of this club. I stopped in briefly, looked around and used the restroom. (Total time I was there was under 5 minutes). I received a call from Mike the owner the following day saying that I was not scheduled for a workout that day. I explained I had just stopped in briefly and did not know that being scheduled was required as it was my first time at his gym. He said using the bathroom was prohibited and I would be banned from his club from this day forward. I dont find it unreasonable that they do not allow members to use the restroom in the times of COVID, but I feel I should of gotten a warning for this as I explained I was not familiar with his rules. He still maintained it is a permanent ban. Very unreasonable. Stay Away
Not sure how this guy stays in business, because i went as guest last night and didnt get 2 feet in the door and he started asking questions of the member i was with and what did we think we were doing? No politeness at all. Then he asked us to leave for no reason instead of maybe asking if i wanted to join. But I wont now and I dont recommend going to this location because owner Mike is a big a hole as someone else has already said. Stay away, there are better options out there in Naperville, than this joke of a place.
I have been an anytime member for over 4 years. I have visited many anytime facilities around the area and out of the state. This is the WORST one. To begin with the owner mike has the most absurd rules of changing shoes. Secondly, he is a clean freak that cannot wait a single second to clean after you making it uncomfortable. He is so pushy and kicked me out of his facility for no reason. DO NOT COME HERE WITH THIS IMBECILE.
Chill and clean atmosphere. I was only here for a few months because Im a travelling student, but if I stayed Id have a full-time membership here. If youre looking for any specific workout equipment, they most likely have it.
I want to work out after work and this was the closest place from where I work at
Mike from Anytime Fitness was extremely friendly, with a rapid response time. He wanted to help me in anyway he was able to. He sponsored a child in our foster care program with a very generous heart. Children in foster care almost never get people in the community to support them. His generosity will be forever appreciated.
Nice and clean gym. No major issues. Be aware they require you to bring “clean gym” shoes and create a reservation for the time being. While these are both posted on the clubs website, every other Anytime club I have visited (35+) do not require either of these and made all members (guest and home) feel welcomed. Seemed relatively unfriendly to members who belong to other clubs. If you’re traveling like myself I would recommend the Anytime on Highway 59.
The owner Mike keeps this gym in top notch condition. I have never been to a gym that is NEVER crowded and impeccably CLEAN. This has been the only gym that I always return to when I am in the Naperville area. I have always been treated respectfully and feel welcomed when I visit. Gym policies are clearly stated upon entry.
Anytime Fitness is the cleanest gym in Naperville, hands down. The owner has great pride in his place and it shows. All of the members are respectful.
I NEVER review places because im a easy person who lets everything slide BUT this owner NEEEEEEEEEEDS HELPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!! look at everyones reviews MR MIKE!!!!!!!!! all of us cant be wrong about the disrespectful owner, the guy is a full joke extremely hard to take serious i hope he gets better at treating people in general and then maybe one-day people will like his disgusting gym
I was a member at this location for 5+ years, and I have nothing but nice things to say. Even after visiting other Anytime Fitness locations when I moved out of the area, nothing has come close. I got to know the owner and his staff pretty well, and while some of the policies or practices may be seen as “annoying” to some, I can assure you nothing but a positive experience at this location. There are really only two big rules: (1) Yes you need a clean pair of [not street] shoes, and (2) do not be that person to slam weights or grunt like a gorilla. If either of those things seem too much to handle, there’s an X-Sport down the street where you can wear whatever shoes you want and act however you feel you need to. And the “reserving a work out time” thing…thank COVID for that.First let’s talk about cleanliness; this gym is by far the cleanest of any I’ve ever been a member of (and that’s quite a few). Even before COVID, the owner and his staff would always be out on the floor cleaning equipment, vacuuming, etc., and it seemed like they had a regular schedule of deep cleaning the facility. In addition, most members were really good at wiping down the equipment once they were finished, re-racking weights, dumbbells, etc. The restrooms and showers were always clean as well.As far as equipment goes, this location had most, if not everything, that any reasonable person could want or need. Dumbbells up to 100 pounds, plenty of cable stations, two squat racks (one Smith), and numerous machines (not to mention the plethora of cardio equipment). The studio area has TRX bands and some more dumbbells, as well as bands, foam rolls, etc. After visiting almost every day for five years, there really weren’t too many times (if any) where I found myself wishing they had a certain piece of equipment. The staff is very receptive to suggestions, and the owner has brought in new pieces of equipment after enough people voiced an interest. The personal training services here are some of the best I’ve seen as well. I can tell you that the trainers here genuinely care about their clients and really push them to be the best they can be; they are not the trainer who tells you to do a set of 15 then pulls out their phone to scroll Facebook or Twitter. And if you’re sore after your workout, make an appointment for a massage with Ken or his partner; just one more great thing about this Anytime location. Out of all the fitness facilities I have ever been to, this place is my favorite bar none. Whether you’re already a fitness enthusiast or someone who is new to this whole “health thing”, stop in and see Mike (the owner) or any of his staff; you won’t be disappointed.
Great workout experience with a friendly environment and helpful staff. Most of the negative reviews come from people who did not want to follow Mikes rules despite the fact that the rules make sense and create a better experience for everyone. Personally, I have broken rules in the past but Mike is understanding if you apologize and dont make the same mistake twice. No complaints.
Fantastic workout environment! The atmosphere, cleanliness and staff is top notch here. Mike greets all members personally. A simple gym that I look forward to going to. Ideal for anyone in the area that needs to get a daily workout at any hour.
I was practically escorted out immediately after meeting the manager because I told him I might not sign today due to being a single mother and needing to make sure I’ll have someone to watch my son so the money does not go to waste. He immediately rushed me out the door after saying “oh so really you aren’t looking for a health club you’re looking for day care”. As a new single mom my child is two weeks old I was so offended. I worked out 6 days a week in pregnancy. It’s not like I am not dedicated
Super clean and very welcoming gym! Great atmosphere and everyone is super friendly!! Never any issues coming in as a visitor!! Love walking in and mike is right there to greet you and welcome you to the gym!! If you are looking for a great gym that fits your needs and hours, then look no further!!!
I’ve been a member for 6 years and could not be happier with this gym. Mike and the staff keep it immaculately clean and always warmly welcome you when you arrive. Mike will even check in with you when you haven’t been in for a while!James is an excellent trainer, extremely energetic and great at motivating you - even on your worst day.If you’re serious about your workouts and don’t want the crowds and posturing of a large gym, check this place out!
My favorite Anytime location! I joined after moving from NJ. I love that its never too crowded. The owner Mike is one of the friendliest people youll ever meet. Its awesome walking in the door and bring greeted by name from the other side of the gym! Also the entire gym is kept spotless. Ive been to many locations in the past 5 years but Naperville will always be home.
I am someone who has never enjoyed working out. After having kids and getting older I decided I needed to switch to a healthier lifestyle. I was lucky enough to have found James Taylor right out of the gate. I am the first one to quit and fall back into my old ways. James has kept me motivated to continue not only from the results I’m getting but because he is fun, super positive, and full of energy! He is definitely an asset to this place.
Cannot say enough great things about this gym! The owners policy of no street shoes inside the workout area as well as supplying bacterial wipes for the cleaning of equipment when youre done using it (which everyone seems to honor) is so very appreciated! The folks who utilize this facility are friendly and have noticed that EVERYONE racks their weights when done (VERY SPECIAL to witness THAT)!! Due to a move, will miss coming to this place SO very much! But if youre looking to workout in a very clean, friendly, non-bustling location, this is the spot!!! Thank you Mike; for everything!
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!@ the gymthe owner needs to shutdown take customer service classes for 4 weeks then reopen, the guy has no idea how to run a gym which is why he is a 2 star gym
James is absolutely amazing. Hes encouraging and does not let you quit. He makes working out fun and entertaining. Best coach by far!!!
I honestly dont understand the bad reviews! Youre going to complain about changing out of your street shoes because the owner doesnt want outside diet brought in? Im happy to change my shoes. Not friendly? Ive never experienced that. If the owner is there, he greets you when you come in by name. Not enough equipment? I dont know what your looking for. This is a smaller gym, but it has plenty of equipment for everyone. Mike keeps his space clean and welcoming. This is not a gym with body builders making a lot of noise grunting and dropping their weights . There are also yoga and yogalattes that are a great workout.I truly enjoy this gym.
Next time someone simply wants to cancel their membership here, I recommend not belittling that person and saying they’re “giving up on fitness”. Shocked that this kind of behavior can happen here.
Anytime Fitness in Naperville is by far my favorite gym I’ve been to! Mike is always so positive the moment you walk in the door, encouraging you to work hard. His team is so friendly and approachable with any questions or concerns you may have.I also love coming here because it’s never overly crowded and I never need to wait for any equipment. It’s also very clean compared to numerous of gyms I’ve been to in the past.
Sometimes you gotta pay for good reviews
I did not enjoy my experience at this Gym, I thought it was a place that promoted health and fitness through the holidays. But not this one. I have been to many other Anytime Fitness locations around the country, I have never had a bad experience until going here. They make it very hard to sign in guests during the holidays, something I would look into, considering many people travel for the holidays.
This private health club is not like those other big chain gyms and thats a great thing! Its super clean and the clean shoes policy is big for me because it shows the members and visitors that its all about respect and cleanliness. I wouldnt want outside shoes to waltz into my house so why should a nice club such as this one right?! Mike is an awesome and energized guy always. Good positive vibes stay flowing and its so much like a family with this clubs members. Clean, organize, all the workout equipment thats needed, they have it for you! You can do a quick workout and get in and out or stay all day its up to you. Ive never saw a gym as great as this one. Go check it out! The trainers are awesome and professional and well educated. The management is consistent and punctual with a masseuse addition and a private studio to use as well! Totally rocks!
This private gym is great! It is extremely clean and due to its privacy, creates an extremely safe environment. The owner Mike acknowledges every member by name, which creates a culture that has an overall friendly vibe! I receive training here and the energy and knowledge that you receive is grade A. They are eager to help and will to take time with you. They also understand what you are striving for and they WILL get you there and further, while having fun. The people you will find inside this gym are very personable which gives off a sense of community. Non-intimidating and welcoming, this gym is awesome!
Danny Gustin is an amazing trainer who has a complete understanding of the physiology behind exercise, pushes you in all the right ways, and is truly a super caring, nice person. The gym itself is never crowded; even though it is a smaller space, it’s just right. And it’s always spotless and very well maintained.
Just worked out at Anytime in Naperville. This location is super clean, they are very professional on keeping people safe with the COVID guidelines. The staff is super friendly.
Wonderful workout facility with extremely dedicated staff. The gym is kept very clean and the fellow attendees are friendly. The only rules to maintain this pristine environment:1.) Please No Street shoes, bring a pair of workout shoes2.) Clean your equipment after useTalk to Club Director Mike Starck, hes awesome and hell answer all your questions
Michael Stark is by far one of the most unprofessional individuals Ive spoken to. Prior to reserving a time slot online, I read the COVID information and FAQs. After using the gym, Michael left an insolent voicemail that my access to the gym had been revoked. When I called for an explanation, Michael first pointed out that I had a home membership at a different gym. Then, he said I didnt change my shoes as listed by the front door. I informed him club specific information was not listed on the website. When asked how I was supposed to know,Michael becames snarky and hung up the phone. You would expect someone to provide a warning or educate and confirm future compliance. I feel targeted because I dont have a home membership, but I cant deny wondering if race also played a part in his dismissive and curt attitude.
I’ve been going to this gym for about 6 years. I’ve been to probably 12-15 other Anytimes throughout the US. This is the cleanest and most well maintained I have seen. This is a great gym with a friendly atmosphere where members respect each other and the gym as if it’s their own.I have been made to feel welcome since day 1 by the owner, Mike. He is always willing to answer my questions about exercises. He always says hi and is willing to take the time to talk to every member should they want. Mike has given me a phone call on my birthday every year just to say happy birthday. This guy is a class act, and he treats everyone with the respect they deserve. He keeps the facility in top shape: clean, well running machines, clean bathrooms, clean floors (even through the nasty winter months.. thanks Mike!). I will continue to be a member of this gym as long as I live in the area. It is the perfect atmosphere for my workout needs. Thanks Mike for everything you do to make this gym as amazing as it is!
Pretty good equipment and very clean. However, my husband arrived by himself, used his fob to enter the facility, but he was called a day later and accused by management of entering the building without a membership. I’m not certain how they would know to call him if he hadn’t used his key fob...very inappropriate.
Extremely clean. Good variety of equipment and plenty of space. The owner, Mike, is an amazing person, super nice, and knows people by name.
Great gym, very clean with a friendly staff. The people that give a low rating for things like wearing street shoes should know better. I, for one, appreciate a clean gym and members who respect the equipment.
I have been to a lot of anytime fintesses and this one is by far the cleanest and the staff here gives 100% to keep the place looking great! The staff also is extremely friendly. I enjoy being told hello. It makes me feel special. :) I wish other gym chains did as good of a job.*note remember to change into your gym shoes when you get there. I recommend Flip flops. If you have never been to an anytime fitness. They are 24/7 365 days a year. They are small gyms but more common than charter or planet. At least thats what Ive observed. They have individual bathroom/changing/shower rooms that are something this gym chain does right. You never have to worry about belongings being stolen. They have a really good setup at all locations. And they say hello to you :)
Cleanest gym EVER!!! And what a fantastic personal training department! 😊
I have been an Anytime Fitness member for a little over 3 years. I wanted to take some time to process before posting this review. This is specific to manager Mike Starck and his club at 1271 Rickert Dr. in Naperville. I rarely leave negative reviews. I am posting so hopefully nobody else has to go through what I did. Unfortunately, after reading numerous other reviews, it appears this is not the first time Mike Starck acted so irrational and unprofessional. After reading the experience of others combined with mine, this is what became apparent to me:1. Mike Starck is without question the most unprofessional person I have ever encountered.2. Mike Starck goes out of his way to target non-home club members. Home members are treated vastly different.3. You are no more than a dollar sign to him.4. Mike Starck blantaly lies. He deflects, and attempts to invent your narrative. There are many examples of him slandering the character or misrepresenting others position to “win” the argument should anyone leave a negative review of his club. Here’s my experience:I recently reserved a time to workout at the Anytime location on Rickert Dr. in Naperville, IL. It is not my home club, but was accepting reservations. The following day, I received a phone call from owner Mike Starck. Mike accused me of not wearing a mask upon entry into the club after reviewing video footage. Caught off guard, I assured him I had my mask on the entirety of my time, including upon entry. Mike continued to insist that I was not wearing my mask. The conversation then turned to me not changing my shoes upon entry. He followed up by telling me my Blue Cross Blue Shield WellOnTarget membership only payed his club a few dollars per visit, and would be going away soon. Now upset and essentially being told I’m a liar, I asked Mike “What the (blank) is the point of this call?” I told him it’s clear I am not wanted at his club. He didn’t stop there. He continued on, inferring I was a bad person and he doesn’t want people like me at his club anyway. I had to hang up at this point because the conversation was going no where.Feeling so poorly treated, I took time out of my busy schedule to go to the club and ask to review the video with Mike of me not wearing the mask. I thought Mike would maybe act professionally and apologize for his made up story. After waiting patiently for Mike to finish business at his desk, he stood up to greet me. Ironically, he was not wearing a mask until he stood up to address me. As soon as I introduced myself and asked if he would be willing to review the video footage with me, he became defensive. He brought up the shoes. As this is not my home club, I acknowledged I made an honest mistake and did not change my shoes immediately. It is not a rule I was used to during summer months at almost every other gym I had been to. I apologized, but eventually did change them once I realized it is his club’s rule. I asked again if he’d be willingly to show me the video of me not wearing a mask. It was at this point he began recording me with his camera phone, and told me I was trespassing and asked me to leave. He repeatedly kept saying “I’m asking you to leave sir, you are trespassing,” all while recording. Continuing to talk over me anytime I tried to speak, he claimed I went on a profanity tirade over the phone. My demeanor remained calm and non confrontational throughout. I never became disrespectful. Mike did. Mike made a scene in his own gym. He never showed me the footage of me being maskless because it does not exist. I left.A week later and I am still in shock over how this man acted and treated me. He claims to promote a “positive club culture.” Is this type of treatment towards others part of your culture? I reached out to Self Esteem Brands, Anytime Fitness’ parent company. Their contact info can be found with a Google search.
I have a great experience; all the equipment I need, very clean, other members friendly and I have gotten very positive results working with my fitness coach, Danny. Mike, the owner, always makes time to say hi and keep a positive atmosphere.
I moved away and did not realize the auto bill was still hitting my credit card. I called to cancel the membership and was told by Mike that I had to come in personally or send US mail. (!!) This chain makes it very difficult to end your membership. Mike did not like what I was saying and could not send me a copy of my agreement. He seemed confused and without any paperwork. His response was to say I was raising my voice and he hung up. I was speaking almost in a whisper. He just didnt like what I was saying.
I have been working with James at this location for a few months and have nothing but positive remarks. The staff there are always warm and welcoming, as well as up lifting. James is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does; which helps to motivate me more! I have seen so much progress in my results while training with him. I cannot recommend James enough to anyone who may be feeling like they’re “stuck” in their fitness journey. I genuinely love going to the gym now and I would have never thought those words would come out of my mouth. Again, this gym location is outstanding due to the staff members genuinely caring about everyone’s fitness journey. So if you’re looking for a new gym/location I highly recommend anytime fitness in Naperville!
I have been to 2 other fitness centers in the area and I would undoubtedly rate this as the best location. This is probably the best fitness center that would win for cleanliness. It is very hard to find the fitness center dirty anytime of the day/night. Mike is one of the best club directors I have ever met. Very friendly atmosphere and most importantly you are treated the way would like to be.
Greatest gym for weight & personal trainer in naperville area. Dan Gustin is the best knowledgeable personal trainer around. Specializes in corrective, restoration & injuries. Bonus is clean gym with caring & concerned management.
James Taylor is the best trainer hands down! He has amazing energy, knowledge and motivation to help you reach your goals and keep you coming back for more!!
This club is extremely authentic and I believe that is priceless! From the cleanliness to the friendly members, I’ve never seen anything like it and couldn’t be happier. I’d recommend this type of a club to anyone who believes in high standards.
The club is never crowded, is very clean and staffed by excellent trainers. You must change into clean shoes when you enter, not lift weights that are too heavy and slam them down, and not groan and grunt when working out. The members are polite and respectful and the owner is a terrific guy. This place is a gem.
This place is hidden behind a bunch of buildings, Google Maps was wrong. It was small and looked plain. They hardly had any space or lockers. I was visiting from out of town and the manager said I have to change my shoes to workout even though my shoes were clean. He seemed like a smooth sales person rather then a business owner.
Checked out this gym today: simply the best one Ive visited so far. Mikes a great guy and arranged a tryout workout without a problem. If youre looking for a clean and organized place with everything available, this is the right place for you. I dont know about you but Im telling my friends about it.
Mike has different rules than any other anytime fitness. If you follow the rules then you are fine. Mike makes things very difficult when you try to end your contract. I would suggest a different anytime fitness or a different work out club. Very clean location but very small and limited to what you can do
The best of the best! Very clean, friendly atmosphere with all the equipment youd ever need with private showers and specialists available to help with fitness problems. Love it!
What is this planet fitness?! No grunting? The second I step in the door hes interrogating me and inspecting my gear? Also its very small and limited equipment options! Stay away!
I was a full Anytime fitness member for 2 years. At the end of my contract I chose to participate in the Blue Cross Blue Shield fitness program. Ive really enjoyed getting to know different gyms. About 2 months ago I started stopping into this Anytime location to do a quick workout about 2-3 times a week.... 20 minute cardio, a plank and maybe a few weight sets. I was respectful of Mikes no outside gym shoes policy and was very respectful of the gym and its offerings. After winter break, I went to workout after school as I had been doing, only to find my key fob rejected. Mike found out I was on the BCBS program and told me he would not honor it so he blocked me from using his gym. His dislike for the program shouldnt result in me being turned away; he should consider working on this with his parent company or BCBS. Other Anytime locations have been welcoming. So instead of getting approximately a dollar for each of my workouts and having me support the growth of his business hed rather people continue to feel bad after experiencing his gym. People will forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel.
Ive been going here for about 4 months, and I couldnt be happier! It has all the equipment I need, and theres rarely any wait to use it. The other people are friendly, but usually focused on their own routine, which suits me.The space and equipment is meticulously cared for. The passion the owner has for the gym is incredible. I would absolutely recommend it for anyone at any level of fitness.
This is the best gym out of other many Ive ever been a member of; the owner is very outgoing, enthusiastic, optimistic person! Always looks out for the best interest of the members and creates an ambiance of warm welcoming - its very motivating !!Super happy with this beautiful clean place - I highly recommend people to come join. Its a unique place always accessible and the best thing everyone is respectful (its not a meat market like all other gyms around)
Fabulous facility. Spotlessly clean. Spacious. Everything works. I was an out of town visitor in for a few days. Mike introduced himself right away and made sure I had everything I needed. He obviously takes a lot of pride in the club. Just a very well-run club suited for every fitness level.
Mike is a dedicated businessman. The club is always clean (and generally being cleaned). He recognizes everyone walking through the door.It has the basics of any gym, plus a little extra, in terms of equipment.Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The 24/7 365 availability (and access to other anytimes) is very convenient as well.
Great to get in and get out. Mike is chatty but means well and is not overly intrusive in my experience. Very clean and typically never packed, at the most there are maybe 10-12 people during peak. Only issue I have is wanting another EZ curl bar as there is only 1!
The gym is awesome! Price is fair for the facility. Mike, the owner is great! He showed me his gym, welcomed me and took good care of me. I would recommend them and their personal trainers. Thanks to Danny Gustin for putting together an awesome workout regimen for me too.
Dont mess with Mike! Change your shoes when you get here and youll have an enjoyable workout. Mike and his staff keep this neighborhood gym spotless
Absolutely Awful.Expensive and Poor equipment.I was a member for 2 years at a different anytime club and loved it. After I moved I started going to the Naperville location and the first time i went the owner Mike interrogated for several minutes and made me feel very unwanted. I work out 5-7 days a week so i spent a lot of time there. The owner Mike constantly interrupts all members during their workouts and scurries around the place frantically cleaning and weaving in and out of people as they try and work out. It is a clean gym which is great but the guy has no sense of personal space and makes everyone uncomfortable. You would think as a gym owner he would have proper gym etiquette? If you are like me and want to purely workout this gym is not for you.It is not a real gym. When I cancelled my membership it was a long painful process.I cant believe I paid that much for a place like that, sadly it took me 8 months to realize and joined a real gym for half the price.
This fitness center is personally managed, cleaned, and monitored by the owner ... Pride of ownership is evident throughout and is contagious among its members. Great location, ample equipment, healthy and relaxing atmosphere. A great spot for all age groups.
Im away from home a lot joined anytime for my health and so I have something constructive to do after work. I was told I was slamming the weights down to hard so I complied without arguing, then minutes later comes the interrogation where you from whats your home gym felt like I was being followed around like at work by a supervisor trying to catch you doing something wrong. My partner from work went he got an email from Mike wanting to explain the rules been in the anytimes enough should probably know by now. Dont worry psycho Mike wont invade your gym ever again..
This gym is like my second home. Mike takes extreme pride in his gym, as he should, & wants people to enjoy a clean, healthy environment. It’s not an insane rule to have people contribute to the cleanliness of the gym by bringing clean shoes to workout in; it actually helps this gym feel even more like a community. I strongly encourage people to join this gym - unless you’re someone that enjoys a disheveled gym that praises obnoxious grunting.
I was told I would be locked out of the gym because you are not allowed to wear ANY outside shoes in the gym. That includes, new, CLEAN, gym shoes from the walk to your car to the front door! Its a gym! The other reviews are correct, stay away.EDIT: just found out if this is not your HOME gym, Mike makes a point to find a reason to kick you out! I hope someone addresses this issue.
Great management! Friendly staff. Clean smooth equipment. Educated and effective trainers and massage therapists. 2 steps up from any other gym around!
I have been going to Anytime Fitness locations for quite a while. I have never been disappointed in a gym before. The business owner is rambunctious when you walk in the door, immediately makes sure I change my shoes before entering more than two feet. I do recommend Anytime Fitness just not this location.
Clean club, however.. The owner here has some sort of weird fetish with their being a rule of changing your shoes at the door. He will even go to the extent to call you to waste your time telling you so. Small club, very minimal selection of equipment, free weight selection is horrible. This is a place for senior citizens, and not actual weight lifters. You would be better off going to any of the other Anytime Fitnesss within the joining area. Clean, yes; can you get a actual workout done if there are more than a few members in occupancy at a time.. No.
Nice, clean and easy to access 24hr !!
I was looking for a smaller workout area and this is it. Mike is awesome in running this location. I never had any problems here and prefer it better than some of the largest places. I would recommend it to anyone.
Looking for a gym close to me; my past experience with AF has been positive but your horrible reviews are keeping me from even visiting.1. Get your cancelleation policy in order.2. Drop with the over zellous rules.
Im a fan of Anytime fitness locations. Im also all for following rules of an establishment. What I dont agree with is someones rude approach explaining rules to you. Apparently Im not the only one that feels this way based on others reviews. I will avoid this location from now on.Furthermore, to the owner who replied with a slanderous comment claiming I was asked to leave. I dont slam my weights. Ive never been asked to leave out of any gym including yours. Please refrain from lying as an excuse for your rudeness. Theres a reason why this gym is one of the lowest rated anytime fitness gyms, if not THE lowest, in the Chicagoland area.
They have the worst customer policies. Choose wisely as even after you submit the cancellation form they’ll still charge you for 1 more month
They watch you, call you if they feel you have done something wrong, its creepy...as other reviewer stated, if you follow rules like a good soldier, you are fine...I was kicked out for being accused of wearring street shoes, when clearly my shoes were strictly for the club...otherwise, their equipment is ok...dont try the elyptical machines cause they all shake side to side as you work on them...I would find another more inviting club...just my opinion.
