Not crowded at all, so that was good. They did not have a recumbent elliptical machine, as they do in Livingston, but Livingston isnt open. They werent especially friendly but they werent unfriendly. I wish the Livingston location, with a pool and a recumbent elliptical, were open.
Sign up with another gym like Retro Fitness or 24 Hour fitness, they at least treat their customers with respect.Further, if you try to cancel? They will not record your cancellation, say you owe x money in 2 -3 months and then sell your debt to a collections agency.NYSC? More like Psychopaths sports club.
I’ve been coming to this gym for a month now. 4-5 times a week. I have not had any complaint so far. Everything is always clean, there’s always soap, shampoo and conditioner available. The sauna is always open and available. There’s always enough room for everyone to work out. The staff is really friendly and always willing to answer any questions. I come to work out and exercise. You don’t need any type of luxury to do that. The classes are great especially the one in Tuesday’s and Thursday’s with Karen! I love her...
The club used to be really good... used to be, now its dated and breaking down. The staff can be pretty rude and the hours suck. They close at 6 on Saturday and Sunday and 11 on Friday. They are not accommodating to their customer base at all. The water tank does not work and the water fountains are disgustingly warm. The best thing is the customers that are friendly and nice. The sauna is not bad either. Other than that, if I were you, I wouldnt waste my money.
They kind of change their prices randomly without telling people and press out people who come as a guest trying to force them to join . I’m not a fan of their rules on guest either . There are so many better gyms in the area that allow guest when you come without them being told they can only come once every few weeks . How can you find motivation going to a gym in which you can’t bring someone . I have a membership here for the sauna and because it’s so close to be quite honest but I’ve going to other gyms with friends .
I am disappointed, when the plan is contrary, I am informed that I used to spend 1 hour with a personal trainer, who at first only dedicated himself to trying to get me his services. I told him that it was at the time of evaluation in which he replied that for another day. The next day I am scheduled again with other staff who also did the same. In conclusion they did not do their part. In the end I got discouraged in going u now Im looking for another GYM.
Could have better equipment but whatever I use has been in good working condition. Having free parking is a good perk.
Has to be THE WORST experience at any gym I have ever had. I joined this gym, and cancelled it within the grace period on the 3rd day, was charged a $10 cancellation fee, never got a refund of $40 during the initial sign up, and on top of that got charged $18 for the month of january as well. I tried speaking to managers but no one in any of the locations was available, and they told me I would still get charged an additional $70 for the one time yearly fees on top of all of this. BEWARE of this place, do not trust these people and stay away from them as far as possible. Completely untrustworthy management/business.
No communication- visit Anytime Fitness in Montclair 312 Bloomfield Ave. They’re new and open 24/7
My wife cancelled her membership here more than 45 days ago, and the club continued to charge our credit card. I called today, and the club manager says that the club has no record of cancellation. Furthermore, the club manager is rude and abrasive. Not sure why anyone would hire him for a customer service position at a fitness club...I recently cancelled my membership. The front desk employee ripped a piece of paper out of a notebook, and asked me to write down my name and telephone number. He said that this would be the notice to cancel - the club has no process for cancellations, in hopes that there is no formal documentation to hold them accountable. The gym is decent - it isnt overcrowded. It is relatively clean. BUT BEWARE - they will not record your membership cancellation and continue to charge you. They have no sense of customer service or satisfaction.
I like the way theyre handling their covid-19 prevention measures. Cleaning supplies are available all over the gym.
Full review to be completed soon. Cancelled my membership end of May. Kept my mothers active. Just like a review below, someone took my name and phone number down and said he would process it. On my way out of the gym, he indicated it was already done. Sure enough, beginning of August still two charges. Called and neither membership was cancelled. Classic NYSC process. I just called and spoke to Juan. He accidentally hung up on me. Well see if he resolves and credits my account for August. If not, drops to one star. If so, jumps to 4 stars because I actually think this gym is a great value for what you get. Its not fancy, but clean, local with great parking.Juan reached out to me. 4 stars!
This gym is a dungeon. No natural light and low ceilings. It was very tough to get use to. Like most gyms, I signed up due to location.I will say that the locker rooms stay relatively clean and the huge benefit is they have a Sauna which I am a sucker for. There are enough machines to get your basic work done.
I had the same terrible experience that Erin did, below. I canceled the membership over the phone in April. Somehow the cancelation wasnt recorded - a month later I received an email from the General Manager saying that my bill was passed due. I called to make sure my membership was canceled, and the person at the other end had no idea why it hadnt been canceled and could only advise me to call back. I left messages, no call back, but on one call was asked to pay a cancelation fee, which I did. At that point I thought the episode had ended. But then a month later I got an email again saying I owed money. I wrote back immediately asking why this is a still a problem, and they responded Please disregard. I heard nothing more until I received word from a collection agency. The fees they wanted to charge me were ridiculous - five different fees, including a new annual fee that came due after I canceled. I tried to contact the manager several times -again, no response. Ive now paid the fee just to put this whole episode past me. Beware.
Affordable, great equipment, sauna, tile showers, and childcare. Excellent service. Wish we didnt live so far away, had to cancel our membership...hoping they open one a little farther north!
Ive been attending this gym for over three years now. I mainly go for the classes, which is the only thing that keeps me here. While the facilities are sufficient for basic workouts, there seems to be no care as to enhancing the experience here. In studio one the door stop has been broken for 3 years, damaging the wood floor and no one seems to care to fix it, while I am sure its a very simple fix! Also, while attending classes, the floor is so dirty, feet are slipping everywhere causing unsafe conditions and is distracting to anyone trying to work through the movements. All it takes is a deep clean every month to keep up on this. There has been two gum stains on the floor for lord knows how long - scrub it up, please! Not to mention, our rates have gone up, so I would expect to see some changes this coming year and not have our extra 5 dollars/month enhancing another gyms location. I havent even discussed the lack of equipment available for the classes that have been requested by the teachers many, many times.I spoke with the employee at the front desk tonight, she says she will pass my message along to the GM, however, seeing some reviews here, I am not that confident that this gym will respond well. Not sure how much patience I have left here, considering I also attend two other gyms and my $50/month that goes NYSC could easily be used elsewhere in my life.
New York Sports Clubs in Manhattan tend toward the unpleasant - but this one is the exact opposite. I love going here. Its clean, the staff is reasonably pleasant, and Ive never seen it even the least bit crowded. Theyve got everything I need and theyre incredibly affordable. Just consider the pricing options carefully, on your own.
Dirty and in bad state of maintenance, I’m not sure how the customers tolerate this place. And in Montclair, no less!!!!The equipment is insufficient, old and often broken. Everything squeaks and is improperly maintained - to the point of being almost dangerous.Work out at your own risk. Especially on the weight machines.
Very convenient but the management doesn’t take good care of the equipment and doesn’t return email inquiries. The personal trainers are very good.
The gym environment is incredible. The staff can be a bit unapproachable at first but as a member they warm up a bit. Machines arent usually upkept very well, plates are scattered everywhere and dirty machines will often stay that way for days. Considering the price of membership I do expect more.
Very welcoming place. I had a trainer and she kicked my butt. Highly recommend. Very clean and lots of equipment. Big space!
Ive been promised 2 free months at sign up (by Sidney). I was charged every month anyway. I addressed my issue to the front desk staff and to the manager, Josh Levi, several times, and every time I was promised a refund. Ive submitted my complaint online. Never heard back. Its getting ridiculous. The manager just ignores my requests. It cannot take almost 4 months to get a refund. Ive canceled my membership and will NEVER go to any of nysc gyms. Their customer service is UNACCEPTABLE! Besides my issue, the gym is old, the machines need repairs, the weights are never sorted, all the equipment is from last century. KEEP AWAY!!!
Says they are opened but when i went there were closed
This is about the management of this place. He is obsessed with gaining money by taking advantage of people and charging his clients with extra fees than actually helping people.Hoping to go to corporate about this issue. If you can open an account somewhere else, and use that location, I’d recommend that.
If I could give the club ZERO stars I would. I was a member for 2 years and had to deal with multiple machines broken at any given time. This club also did not disclose the fact that they may raise your membership fee at any time they want without notice. It wasn’t until 3 months later that I checked my bank statement and noticed my fees had gone up by $11/mo for each person on my account. The club’s manager asked me for my email with the intention of lowering my fees again and we never heard from him again, the membership fees went from $26/mo to $45/mo over the course of 4 months. I have since canceled my membership but was not told there was a 45 day window after you cancel where your membership is still active. I was now charged $75/person on the canceled account for the annual fee for the next year (ON A CANCELED MEMBERSHIP). I have been directed back and forth from the club to customer service and back and no one has been able to help me in getting refunded the annual fee I’ve just paid on a canceled membership. Do not join this club, do not join any club for NYSC. I have never in my life dealt with nastier customer service associates and a general manager who has “zero power” to get things done in his own club.
Clean gym and equipment is good. Its small but its perfect if you dont need all the bells and whistles.
I cancelled my subscription in July. I was told it would take 75 days for me to no longer be charged. 4 mths later they were still charging me and I was told no one who cancelled in the summer was processed and she (Giselle) would see if corporate would allow me to no longer be charged and that they would call me back in two days! No one ever called!!! And yes if they would ALLOW ME to cancelled. I had to go through my credit card and report it as fraudulent charges. The worst most unprofessional thing I have ever experienced. DO NOT GO THERE!
This gym is usually pretty decent about most things but recently they have been falling off. Their lockers smell like they havent been cleaned in a long time. Also I go to the gym first thing in the morning before work and twice just this week no one showed up for work so the gym wasnt opened, that is ridiculous lets see if they refund my bill for those two days, but very unlikely.
This club and this chain are fraudulent, with management at a national level that is disgraceful. I cancelled my membership by doing what the contract says: going to the club. When I came in, the woman (Victoria)with whom Id booked an appointment wasnt there. The guy behind the desk had me sign a legal pad saying I resign my membership, sign and date it. i thought it was weird, questioned it, but didnt take a cellphone picture, because he said it was normal and they were out of forms. Flash forward three months later, when I continued to be charged. I called to complain, only to find the manager had been fired, and the nice new manager had no power to reimburse me. HIS boss wrongly claimed I would have had to send in a registered letter (not true-- look at the contract) and I continue to have to dispute the charge every three months with AmEx. Meanwhile, NY Sports Club intermittently has trouble on the NY Stock Exchange. Any wonder why folks are having trouble quitting? Its a disgrace! Caveat Emptor. Dont join here. Youll never be able to quit without paying for months after youve legitimately left.
Everyone employed here is awesome. They usually run deals for a month free of this or that. No pool here, but, showers & a sauna. Equipment always seems pretty clean for being so crowded.
I’ve worked out at roughly 7 different NYSC. For the price you pay for a sports club membership, this location in particular is not worth it. Lacks a lot of equipment/machines some of the other sports club have. The plus is, they have child sitting. Other than that, I’d avoid this location.
Sydney & Phil...smh idk if it’s this location or certain individuals. Be Advised!! They’ll tell you about the $20/month or it’s a dollar down if signing up under a family member membership and $20 following month. But why didn’t they tell me about the $60-$70 yearly charge that would follow around the 2nd month ?! Why is it so happened I made a call and was informed about the yearly charge from a family member And Not Sydney and or Phil ???!!!! They would’ve waited until after I paid and signed up to tell me. And then both employees would’ve lied and said they told me... I’m blessed I dodged that bullet lmao #BadforBusiness
Ive been happy using the Montclair Sports Club location for most of the past 2 1/2 years. However the place has become so busy that I often cant use the equipment I want to use. If I do use it and walk away for a couple minutes someone else jumps on. Yet the club keeps offering more promotions- $20/month rates, a rebate for referring people, free parking. So looks like things will only get worse.
This place seems to be making money by ripping everybody and the managers seem like to apologize whit cheap excuses instead of solving the problem, I canceled my membership and have to fill out a format, the guy who helped me said that they probably will charge one more moth and cancelations fees, but guess what? two moths passed and they even charged me for next year membership. The worst part is that the management said will solve the problem, they never did. I just wish more competence could come to town and take them out business,
This club is really terrible. They have very limited group classes and much of the equipment is broken for months. The hip abduction machine has been broken since May of 2018. The gym is also very dirty. There have been no wipes to clean the machines since November 2018. If you ask about these things you will be told its a low budget location, despite the fact that membership rates are rising.I agree with the rest of the reviews about them charging credit cards unlawfully. I cancelled my membership in January in-person and was told a manger would call me the next day. I had to call multiple times the next day because the front desk worker would hang up on me or transfer me to the managers full voicemail. I finally emailed the manager (James) who said my cancellation was processed. I deleted my credit card information from my account so I wouldnt fall victim to their scam, yet of course I was somehow charged for another month. I followed up with James and he never responded to my inquiry about the charges and neither did Alicja from Hoboken, so I had to report the charge as fraud.I joined the Intrepid gym nearby and couldnt be happier. There are so many other options in Montclair that respect their customers and provide a positive experience.
Cancelled membership at the end of August and was charged for September (as I expected) and in October (unlawful charge). To cancel it in August I was required to hand-write on loose leaf paper a statement of cancellation. I received a confirmation on Sept. 5 and was still charged for the following month in October. I called to bring this up and the person I spoke with was extremely nasty and hung up. Called back, then I spoke to a different employee who forwarded me to a billing manager where the voicemail was full. I was told the billing manager would not be in until Tuesday.
Terrible service. I would give 0 stars if i could. They billed me for charges that I did not incur and where not helpful at resolving the issue. I know several people who have had the same problem. Go elsewhere.
Basic gym, weekend hours are just ok. No parking and no pool. Treated me fairly when I requested to cancel.
UPDATED: The club itself is ok. Very functional. However, they will not cancel your membership even if you follow the procedures in the small print in their contract. I relocated to England and did the following to cancel my contract. 1. Met with the manager in person and provided a handwritten letter notifying them of my move and requested email confirmation - none came. 2. Followed up with emails - no response. 3. Sent another request for termination along with a copy of my UK based job contract via registered mail. Five months later I get a letter from a collection agency. UPDATE: NYSC-Montclair contacted me and I have been assured that they have cancelled our memberships and called off the collection agency. They were quite timely in responding to my original review. I upped the review to a 3 pending making it a few more months without hearing from the collection agency again. Once I am sure the collection agency is history and my credit score was not hurt I will up the review to a 4.
UPDATE BELOW, BE AWARE OF YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO!!!!Very unprofessional, gym is always dirty or disorganized, weight are everywhere you never find what you look for. The machines miss parts, so they are not always safe or easy to use. The best part is the manager, who is never on site or better when you call and ask for him he refuse to come to the phone. For instance I had a billing issue that I wanted to resolve peacefully, they made it impossible. The started to charge me $76/mo without notice, no email no call they just charged my card. I was paying $29+tax. There wasn’t any note or communication my bill was going up, so I wanted to discuss why I got charged that much this month. I called 5 times, I left my phone # to be called back they never called me, and the manager in charge never came to the phone to pick my calls. This is very unprofessional for a gym that wants to be so fancy. Also they don’t have great group classes and not that many anyway, so you pay a monthly fee mostly to use the machine. For that amount I can go to YMCA and they have the swimming pool.Don’t even try this placeDONT GUVE YOUR CREDIT CARD!!!! The hold it on file ad they continue to Charge it without your authorization even when you cancel.... I just talked to the front desk the hung up the phone on me like I was the problem!!!! DONT GO TO THIS GYM!!!!!
Terrible. Watch your CREDIT CARD INFORMATION these thieves will increase your monthly without telling!!!
These people are a rip off,Ive cancel my account since in July and they have been charging me up to this date for no reason, when I talked about my refund they cant give me. Wanna get rip off go to this gym.
This gym has fallen off hard. On top of that, they tried cleaning house with the management and it hasn’t worked. Bad cancelation emails were sent out, bad processes in CC management. Management took their time with rectifying the situation too. The owner needs to sell and get out. Management is only responsible for so much.
Decent facilities but many machines need to be repaired in some way. Close quarters and too little light.
Slipping big-time. You used to join NYSC for the extra quality. This one is now always out of towels, the locker rooms are out of supplies and constantly a mess. Disappointing to see.
New Jersey Montclair location man bathroom the Condition is unbelievable badAnt Everywhere 😡😡😡😡😡 the management did not care at all, So many member let the front deck employee know, she say will talk to the Manager the problem next Monday 3/16 I’m come back nothing has been change it bad management !!!!!
The equipment is eh. Layout is kinda weird. Atmosphere is kinda weird, low energy. Lots of guys that think they know what theyre doing but dont. Mostly people casually reading newspapers or on their phones while on the equipment or lazily doing cardio
This is the worst gym ever ! They charge you multiple times, even after you cancel your membership. I was not the first victim of this situation. Theyre known to do this to people often. I had to call my bank to return my funds back, due to the inconvenience of the manager never being present to address this. Save your money & go else where. Their management is not great.
It is cool plus it has a day care for your kids
I just Would like To Share My Experience With Nysc..... Starting From Beginning To End....... Intially A Great Overview Well put Together Staff Etc.... Clean Equipment. ...... Clean Bathroom... Very Welcoming Place. But Customer Service At the Front Desk is Horrid There Seems to be Alot of Phone Taging Going On And Transfers To an Unknown Gm Whom I Failed To Meet.Nevertheless I call in Today to Cancel a Month to Month Pay as you Go Pro rated Membership And You Think it Would be as Simple a Pie? Think again I Spoke With A Guy By The Name of Chris Who Claimed to be a Sales Rep on the Floor at t b is Time And he Obviously Didnt know What was Going on He Couldnt even tell me What Was the Prorate of My Membership, Cancelation fee that I was Never Aware of Anything....... Smh So I asked to Speak to a Manager Reguarding This Matter And a young Lady By Franchaste Would Hang up Continously..... So Finally Someone Answers After the Tenth Call And Told Me Ill be Receiving a Call back And its been 5 days Now But yet I still Get Charged on my Card Smh..... Terrible Experience With Customer Realtions Here Be Aware of the Hidden Fees!!!!!!!!!
I was a loyal patron of the Montclair NYSC for over two years, and generally valued the teachers, classes and environment during my time there. Unfortunately, when I moved out of state in January 2017 and attempted to cancel my membership, I uncovered a management culture with complete disregard for customer service.Initially, I attempted to call to cancel my membership, but was given a series of misinformations about how and when to go about it. When I attempted to follow up, I was repeatedly told by desk staff that they would have a manager return my call. I did not receive a single phone call. Finally, I was told I needed to provide written correspondence via email, directed to the manager, James Delaunay. It was only after I discovered that I had yet again been charged for my membership that I realized my request had once again been ignored. Again, I picked up the phone. This time, I spoke with an associate who requested I forward my email to her, and she would follow up with the elusive Mr. Delaunay.Upon doing so I received a reply stating that I had used an incorrect email address and that I should have contacted us upon receiving an error message for incorrect email address. There was no error message, which was evidenced by the original thread. In fact I attempted to send a test email to the original address to prove my point, and yet again did not receive an error message.Ultimately, I have been forced to deal with this via my bank and the Better Business Bureau, since I never was able to speak to the manager. The goal of customer service is to help retain clients and preserve the reputation of the company when problems arise--I should know; Im a business owner and Id be out of business if I treated my customers this way. Its unfortunate that the NYSC management lacks both the insight and integrity to assume reasonable responsibility when appropriate. If youre considering joining the Montclair NYSC, I would urge you to take your business elsewhere...I hear theres a great new LA Fitness.
Convenient location only reason I go here. They neglect equipment.
Convenient gym, great trainers, but needs a facelift
Went in and canceled my husband and my gym membership in early July. They let me know it was a 45 day notice, so I was not surprised when I got charged for August... But then I was charged in September and November even after calling multiple times. When I called corporate, they said they could do nothing but apologize. After 6 months our accounts were finally canceled, but those are 6 months we did not plan on having to pay.
They recently renovated it, and its definitely an improvement, but its always crowded no matter what time you go. If you want to use a squat rack youre going to be waiting awhile before one opens up.
The facility is not bad but their customer service staff are quite manipulative and unhelpful.I wanted to try the club before committing to a membership so I tried to get a 30-day pass to the Montclair NYSC. However, their membership representative Ryan refused to accept my 30-day coupon (which I got from the nysc website) saying that it was for new members only and since I had gone to the club on a free exercise day I couldnt use the 30-day pass. He also accused me of giving him an incorrect phone number, which was a lie on his part.I found the customer service staff were aggressive in selling memberships in general and were unwilling or unable to meet customers halfway in terms of negotiating terms. I will certainly not be returning to this club.
Horrible place! I wish I would have read the reviews before I joined. Watch out for fees even after you cancel.
Nice and clean. Showers ok
Front desk staff allowed to eat smelly dinners at counter, evening clients greeted with pungent smell as manager sits in office allowing such unsanitary behavior..Boo you.
After a hard day at work in Montclair, this is where I go to unwind, stretch and shower
Great Place to work out.
Generally clean gym. Only gripe is that they have 1 squat bar.
Probably one of the worst and poorly run gym I’ve ever been to
I wrote a review yesterday tearing Town Sports International apart for their poor management of their clubs and the post was taken down. Please contact their CEO - Robert Giardina or COO Daniel Gallagher to let them know how atrocious the customer service is. This is public information. Just look up Town Sports International.
Its a smaller gym and theres no direct parking, but the staff is very friendly. The gym is also clean and doesnt seem to get crowded.
Clean showers and great staff
These guys are the priciest in town, I got tired of seeing walls when I exercise and put my membership on hold, so that I can do my cardio in parks while the weather allows it.
Why dont you email me back?
I just feel bad they only have a 3.8 rating
Been going there for 6 mos. .friendly staff
Good equipment selection
Good gym.
Becareful with their policies!!! manager poor on service! and thieves!
Pricy plans
Small, crowded
The graphics are exceptional and beautiful and you can see everything in the smallest detail
