Recently had a FUE hair transplant (1500 grafts) performed by Dr. Josephitis at the Shapiro Medical Group. Could not be more pleased. Previously had two transplants, the last procedure was not done well and needed corrective work. Dr. Joe is very patient, took the time to listen and understand my concerns and had the technical ability to accomplish a difficult task. The entire staff was very friendly and professional. Matt, the patient coordinator did an excellent job explaining things. Terrific experience, highly recommend.

Showed up for a consultation appointment and was told I didnt have an appointment in their system after waiting over 6 weeks to get in. I provided proof of my appointment, and was then offered a standard appointment another 6 weeks. I.e. They messed up and didnt care to correct the issue. Fortunately I found that out before paying thousands for a medical procedure. Note* Their procedures are out 5 + months after the consultation appointment. Additionally, there were only admin staff their on a late Friday morning.

Dr. Ron Shapiros performed several procedures for me, and I wouldnt trust my hair to anyone else except him and his outstanding staff. Ive done tons of research prior to selecting Dr. Shapiro, and even though there are others with fine reputations in this field, I feel that his technical expertise, aesthetic excellence, genuine patient-first approach, exceptional chairside manner, and many other qualities place him at the top of the list. From hair transplants to exosome treatments, from FUE to SMP, Dr. Ron Shapiro and Shapiro Medical Group arent just a five-star business ... theyre five-star people ... and imho, thats a very rare combination and a definite keeper!

Just had an FUE procedure with Dr. Joe.I researched hair clinics for months and talked to 10+ of the top hair surgeons out there before deciding to go with Dr. Joe of Shapiro Medical.Im very happy I did. Dr. Ron Shapiro is known to be the foremost expert on hairlines and from interviews with him, you can tell hes a very process oriented person. Dr. Joe does all of the FUE procedures within the clinic and has trained under Dr. Shapiro for years, so has that same process when it comes to exceptional hairlines. The whole experience was top notch, its two days out so too early to discuss results, but dont have any pain or swelling.I asked a million questions and Dr. Joe and Matt Zupan were always happy to answer and explain. Would 100% recommend flying here from anywhere in the country to get your hair procedure. Ill update my review in a year when the results are in.

The entire staff exceeded my expectations. The receptionist made me feel welcomed and were eager to help from the moment i walked in the door. Matt was incredibly knowledgeable and informative about what the process would entail. He went above and beyond to answer any of my questions, and went as far as to return a call from me outside of business hours to ensure I thoroughly understood the process. Dr. Josephitis was also extremely friendly and helpful about any questions or concerns that I brought up. I couldnt be happier with his work and the results from my transplant procedures. I highly recommend Shapiro Medical Group.

Shapiro Medical Group is the best in the business - hands down. Their staff is extremely professional, timely, and proficient. My experience there (28 yr old male w/ ~2000 graft front-region transplant) could not have been better. From the first consultation to the year-one check-in, all members of the staff were well versed in the process and were more than happy to answer all questions and concerns throughout. Never once did I feel as if I did not know what to expect/do, which is important as the 1-2 week period of care following the transplant is extremely critical. The doctors at Shapiro (literally) wrote the book on hair transplantation so you know the level of experience here is outstanding. My new hairline is so outstanding theres no way anyone would ever know its a transplant - no 90s plugs look here - all natural. They not only seamless executed my current transplant, but helped me understand what my future needs might be (as I am a younger guy with rampant male-patterned baldness running in the family). A year out from surgery and my self-confidence has never been higher!I would definitely encourage anyone who is at least semi-interested in exploring hair transplantation to call for a consultation. Everyone deserves to feel at the top of their game, and these are the guys that will get you there!

Matt is a perfect representation of Shapiro Medical Group. He is knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful, helpful. Many years of experience. He helped educate me with the latest procedures and what to expect. Its clear he loves what he does. If youre just thinking about getting more information, call Matt. A great guy.

I flew in from Atlanta to see Dr. Paul & Nicole about scalp micro pigmentation & to fix hair transplants from a previous doctor. I was impressed from the second I walked in by how professional & kind the whole staff was, much better than any of the other doctors I’ve visited. I spent over 4hrs in the office that day with individual consultations with Matt, Nicole, Dr Paul Shapiro. They all were awesome & I highly recommend visiting the Shapiro medical group for any of your hair loss concerns.

It took a lot of careful saving and thought for me to fly from New Zealand to the US to have a procedure undertaken in 2010. Id never had any sort of operation before (or since) but I can honestly say that it was well worth it. The staff were friendly, helpful and understanding. I was stoked with the results and it really changed how I viewed myself. I cant compare with any other surgeon, all I can say is that I was really happy with the results. Thanks.

If you are looking for the best the industry has to offer look no further……The level of care I received is simply unparalleled. Clinic operates like a well oiled machine. The doctors, techs and support staff are all top shelf and bend over backwards to ensure both your comfort and the best possible result.I came to Dr. Ron Shapiro as a repair patient after BHR clinic in Belgium completely botched my hairline. I’ve had to have over eight reverse FUE procedures with SMG to correct the problem. What I can tell about the clinic from my experience is;1/. This clinic uses the most modern techniques available to perform HT. Most say they do but actually don’t. Only a hand full clinics truly perform ultra refined work like SMG does.2/. Doctor is extremely cautious and will not take any unnecessary risks. Dr. Shapiro does not gamble or guess or just hope for the best. He only moves forward if he is certain he can produce the desired outcome. If you are repair patient like me you will have extra appreciation knowing this.3/. The doctor is highly analytical and is fantastic at deconstructing problems. He really listens to the patient and works with you hand-in-hand to ensure the best possible result. Communication was excellent through all my procedures and a lot of extra time was spent by him planning to ensure every step of my surgeries ran smoothly. I was a complex case and he did a phenomenal job reversing the mess left by BHR clinic.4/. This is not a doctor that is motivated by money. This clinic could charge double or triple what they do and still have a line up out the door…..His sole motivation is to help people and be the best possible HT surgeon he can. He did a bunch of pro-bono work on me which I offered to pay for but wouldn’t let me. He’s probably the closest thing to a real live saint there is !I can’t thank Dr. Shapiro and his team enough for all the fantastic work they have done for me. I am no longer insecure and embarrassed looking in the mirror. Special thanks also goes to Dr. Joe who performed several of my punch outs and took phenomenal care of me as well as Matt Zupan who helped coordinate all my visits.Five stars only because they won’t let me give you TEN !!

I do not normally write public reviews, but my experiences with Shapiro Medical Group have been so life-changing that I feel the need to share this with others, since the choice of the right hair restoration experts makes all the difference in the world. I have now been a patient of Shapiro Medical Group since 2016. I started out with getting scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) with Nicole Large, who is regarded as one of the leading SMP experts in America and who has talents beyond words. After Nicole got an incredible SMP baseline established for me, I became so comfortable with Nicole and the Shapiro Medical Group staff, that I decided I was ready to make the leap and complement it with an actual FUE to get the best effects. I had consulted with a number of the top hair restoration surgeons in the country, and ultimately decided that Dr. Ron Shapiro was the most qualified expert for me for three primary reasons: (1) Dr. Ron is world-renowned for creating some of the best hairlines in the industry; (2) Dr. Ron is a pioneering expert in FUE techniques that frequently yield undetectable results, even at very short lengths which was very important to me; and (3) Dr. Ron has literally wrote the textbook used to train many hair surgeons and is known as being the hair surgeon that other hair surgeons turn to when they need their own hair procedures done, which speaks for itself. Ive ultimately ended up having three FUE procedures, which were all performed jointly, with Dr. Ron doing the recipient area, and Dr. David Josephitis performing his expert techniques in ultra-refined FUE extractions from my donor area. Ive then had Nicole bring her great assets in to add the finishing touches with SMP that allows me the flexibility to go down as short as #1 buzz cut when I want, with undetectable results! This team of world-class experts -- Dr. Ron with restoring my hairline and temples, Dr. Josephitis with his extraction expertise, and Nicole with her SMP mastery, has literally knocked a decade or more off my appearance! I would also like to mention Dr. Rons brother, Dr. Paul Shapiro, who is another expert surgeon at Shapiro Medical Group. Although Dr. Paul has not performed any procedures on me, there are many patients of Dr. Pauls who have also had exceptional results and who highly recommend him. On a final note, all three physicians provide their patients with their direct cell phone numbers, and have always been extremely responsive whenever I needed to reach out to them. My experiences with Dr. Ron, Dr. Josephitis, and Nicole have been nothing short of miraculous, and I would not hesitate to recommend Shapiro Medical Group to anyone considering a hair restoration procedure and/or SMP. This is a world-class operation!

I recently had Dr. Ron Shapiro (and his team) perform hair transplant surgery for me; overall, the experience was great! I first spoke with Matt Z, he clearly explained the types of transplants that exist, the process, pricing and more. After deciding to move forward, he also assisted me in setting up the appointment. As an out of state resident, I traveled to Minneapolis the day before the surgery - I was at their office at 7:30am the day of my surgery and left ~6:30pm. The procedure itself started ~8:15am. It was a relatively painless procedure; you can feel the first two shots, but the pain is very minimal. And the recovery was relatively immediate (I simply took one pain pill when I got home, then rested for a few days in Minneapolis before returning home). Unfortunately, they do have to give you a haircut and you can see where the hairs were planted so itll take a few weeks before I go out in public without wearing a hat or hoodie. For anyone interested, Id highly recommend Shapiro Medical -- very professional and friendly team.

I had an absolutely amazing experience with Dr. Josephitis. About a year ago I had a procedure at a different clinic in the area and had a bad experience that left me feeling pretty desperate. Dr. Josephitis was incredibly knowledgeable and made me feel completely at ease about fixing my prior procedure and putting me on the right track going forward. The day of the procedure was a very comfortable experience. The entire staff at Shapiro Medical was amazing. I wish I went there the first time.

High recommend this place. They have the sweetest staff. To the man at the front desk, the consult, nurses and doctors. Dr. Josephitis did my procedure and the nurses. They were constantly making sure I was doing okay. They even crushed my pills because I have a hard time swallowing large ones. Dr. Josephitis was great at describing the procedure, answering questions and making sure I got what I wanted. Not only did they do all of this but my mom came with me and they gave her a room to watch movies, brought her blankets, coffee and lunch. Can not say enough how great this place is.

My experience with this clinic and with Dr. Josephitis was overwhelming positive. From someone coming from bad experiences in the past, Dr. Joe, Matt and the entire staff went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable during my entire stay. I was not only impressed with the work Dr. Joe did, but how thorough he was during our pre op consultation. Hair transplantation can be a scary process, like any surgical procedure. The attention to detail at SMG made the entire process so much easier than my experiences in the past. I highly recommend. Dr. Josephitis is one of the best doctors performing FUE and SMG is one of the top clinics in the country. Its rare you get a person, place or thing that can live up to their reputation. But my experience at SMG did just that

Shapiro Medical did an excellent job with my hair transplant, from start to finish. They were personable, friendly, knowledgable, and make me comfortable throughout the entire process. My experience started with a consultation with Matt. He was very experienced and knowledgable in the process and provided great detail about what I would experience. He informed me of the background information regarding FUE and Strip procedures without pushing me towards either option. He informed me of benefits to both and let me decide for myself which option Id like to choose. He gave me the knowledge and background information so that I could make an informed decision for myself. He was very helpful and made me feel prepared for my procedure. When I moved forward with the procedure, Shapiro made me as comfortable as they could. They put great effort and care into making be relaxed and comfortable. They provided lunch for me and let me order what I wanted beforehand. When I arrived in the morning, I was prepped by the team and we went over the itinerary for the day. They offered me beverages and ultimate comfort. The morning session consisted of extracting the strip. This part was totally painless as they did an excellent job numbing the area. I watched a movie while the morning session was being done. We paused for lunch and I was able to use the restroom and make any calls if I needed to.The afternoon session went pretty well. This party consisted of the follicles being implanted. My back tends to get stiff from sitting for long periods of time, but overall it was pretty comfortable. I watched another movie with the afternoon session went on. After the procedure was over (early evening), the team went over steps for the coming days. They detailed all steps needed to care for the newly planted hair and for things to avoid. Overall, they were very thorough and did an excellent job going through everything with me.After a few days, I went in for a post-op appointment, which consisted of a hair wash and monitoring the sutures. None of the sutures fell out, although they were a bit painful due to irritated skin. It was too bad, but was uncomfortable to sleep on.The whole experience was exceptional, and Shapiro Medical took great care of me. I highly recommend Shapiro Medical Group to any other person interested in getting a hair transplant.

I recently had a hair transplant with Shapiro Medical Group (Ron) in March. I consulted with Matt before hand on many occasions and he was always willing to answer my questions and spend time with me. He was very helpful in explaining the benefits of FUT vs FUE and vice versa and ultimately left the choice up to me. I consulted with 3 other big HT transplant doctors as well and they all recommended FUT which is what I chose. This mainly came down to graft survival rate and number of hairs you can get in a session and lifetime. Matt also explained the necessary post op care as I was going need to follow since I was heading to Florida (ie always wear a hat in the sun and stay of pools).Ron Shapiro and his staff were amazing during the surgery. Ron spent a lot of time with me the day before the surgery going over the entire surgery process. His staff was very caring and always made sure I felt comfortable during the surgery. I am looking forward to seeing the results in a few months!

Drs. Paul an Ron Shapiro have helped me in redoing over and over again from the aftermath of receiving hair transplants of the 70s. The were massive plugs that looked like corn rows. I have been treated for hair restoration from LA to Minneapolis and I cannot say how grateful I am to have them on my team. People use to always look up at my hairline when they were talking to me because all they saw were these wild roots as they were once called. This was very annoying and would attribute to me being self-conscience. Dr. Ron started the repair and Dr. Paul finished. I cannot thank them enough. The staff is phenomenal from the front desk to the techs-and remember the skill of placing by the tech is of the up most importance and they are excellent. I rate them 5 stars JFN

I can’t say enough good things about SMG as there are simply no words for the happiness and joy that their practice has brought to my life. When I was considering getting a procedure done, I contacted many different sources and clinics. I read up on different techniques and also consulted a large number of physicians. When I was ready to move forward, I found a well known physician in Madison, who was unable to schedule me due to his waitlist, but he referred me to SMG; he told me that they’re the best in the country and assured me that I would be in good hands. He was absolutely right.SMG are true pioneers of hair restoration. Meeting with Matt Zupan (multiple times) was such a delight and he answered every question or concern I had with a well tailored and informed response only someone with over 25 years of experience could know. I would write and call him frequently (borderline obsessively) as I wanted to know every little detail about a potential procedure, whether it be strip or FUE. I also was curious to know more about the SMP procedures and other techniques but mostly wanted to be comfortable with expectations before moving forward; I was always inspired after every conversation with Matt as he would always inform me of the best recommended course and curb my somewhat unrealistic expectations. He also would mention potential oversights that could lead to an unnatural look. I am so thankful for his guidance, candor and for helping me with what he and I thought would work best for me as the results are beyond brilliant and appear blissfully natural. There really is no place like SMG. Their whole staff is so much more educated and refined than any other clinic and you can easily see the experience in action when you have a procedure done (which stems from the physicians). Dr. Ron and Dr. Paul are elite and have been pillars of hair restoration since the early 90’s and anyone who has had a procedure done by one of them would know that they truly are the best.

I cant review the procedure or the doctors as I didnt move forward, However, this was because I found the initial consultation a shambles. I had a guy called Matt who came across as rather unprofessional and a bit of a wise guy. He didnt want to listen to anything I had to say and was quite ignorant on lots of aspects of the wider industry (Id done lots of research!). He spent ages trying to sell me a strip transplant and how it was so much better than FUE before I was finally able to get a word in and let him know that he must have his clients confused because I had made it clear in my submitted documents that (re a transplant) I was only interested in FUE (as I keep my back and sides shaved short and dont want the big strip scar). Suddenly strip was not so good and FUE was great. He was completely baffled by scalp micro-pigmentation even though it is a service that Shapiro Medical Group offer. Clearly didnt know anything about it and, for example, insisted it was especially no good because you have to shave your head every day with it. (This is wrong in so many ways, but most certainly for those using it to fill thinning hair. No shaving required at all let alone every day!).Also he seemed unable to offer any advice on sunshine on an FUE transplant. Research seems to agree that keeping the transplanted hair out of direct sunlight for a month is best but he did not know this and even seemed unable to grasp the difference between recently-transplanted hair and ones regular hair. It was odd to say the least. All in all it was a strange conversation which went down so many rabbit holes. I lost complete faith in SMG to do anything for me.

I have had I think six, maybe seven procedures going back to 1999, starting out with Bosley in Chicago for the first 2-3, then MHR in Mpls, and the last two at Shapiro. I became a much more sophisticated consumer as time went on and the procedures added up, and consequently finally found SMG. When I had my first consult with them I was ready to throw in the towel. I wanted scar revision so I could get micropigmentation in the scar and cut my hair super short. I was noticeably thinning in the crown, and my hairline was beginning to thin significantly, leaving previously planted hairs as outliers. Not a natural look if I ever wanted to comb my hair back. The consultant let me know I did not look bad as I thought, and recommended Dermmatch, which he demonstrated on my crown. I was astounded at how it gave me a very realistic appearance of a full hair in the crown. So I ran with that and it immediately positively impacted my self-esteem. I started going out more, dating, and having a lot more fun in life. One year later I underwent my first SMG procedure, 1500 grafts, and when they came in the result was great. That was 2012. Just had my second, 2000 grafts, last Winter and those are now coming in and I am now growing my hair longer and combing it straight back Pat Riley style. I could not be more satisfied with the experience at SMG. I am in the finishing-work phase of what has been a 17-year process so far. I see one or two more procedures to fine tune everything. There have been many times over the years when I have regretted starting out on this path, and if I had it to do over knowing what I know now I likely would not have done it. But I did, and I can honestly say I am happy with the current results. Its nice to have what everyone thinks is a nice full head of hair at my age, 44, while most men around me are bald or heading in that direction. Helps out with the ladies as well. Been dating 20-somethings for the last five years and my girlfriend of 3.5 yrs is 25!

Hi all. This is my HT journey.I flew to Amsterdam with KLM which took one hour. Then it was a direct flight to Minneapolis with NWA(Delta) which took eight hours.Arrived at the airport at 3.30pm, went through customs and got the hotel shuttle (mini bus) to the hotel which took about 20 minutes. The hotel was the Country Inn and Suites. This is a nice hotel and is five minutes from Shapiro Medical Group. One extra bonus the hotel had was free use of computers with internet access. It cost me £637 all in with flight and accommodations for three nights. There are quite a few sports bars and restaurants a few minutes walk from the hotel and a downtown area which has loads of bars, restaurants, shops etc.I also visited the Mall of America which is a huge shopping centre full of everything you need. It’s one of the biggest malls in the world. The hotel shuttle will take you to and from the airport, Mall of America and to SMG as a free service. The hotel is used to SMG patients and the shuttle bus drivers too. They were all very friendly. The hotel gives discounts to SMG patients. The discount rate is $99 per night. There are two downtowns. One is Minneapolis and the other is St. Paul. The two cities are close within 15 minutes drive of each other. The center of the 2 downtown has skyways – walkways from building to building above the streets so you don’t have to go outside in bad weather. They were both beautiful clean cities.Monday morning i went to the clinic. I met Dr Shapiro and we talked about my expectations and he examined my hair. Then I was in the chair. Got my anesthetic needles in my scalp which I never felt a thing as they use a vibrating tool. Dr Shapiro removed my strip and then the techs starting the cutting while I was being sutured up and then Dr Shapiro made the incisions for my new hair. When about 90% of the incisions were made, they used a dye onto my recipient area for them to see the incisions better. They save the other 10% to be used for fine tuning at the end. They were also taking estimates of how many grafts were to be expect every half hours or so.Janna and the other techs then started to plant with Dr Shapiro checking all the time as my crown planting was not straight forward due to my previous poor work which left plugs in there growing in the wrong directions. My crown work went great and then they proceeded to plant in the middle of my hairline. Janna planted every single graft in the hairline. Then towards the end, Dr. Shapiro and Janna did the stick/plant method to fine tune the hairline. This is where Dr. Shapiro makes the incision and Janna plants straight away after each incision is made. They said once the incisions are filled with grafts, you can see spaces in between, so Dr. Shapiro always asks for single hairs to be saved for this part.Photos were taken at every opportunity by Janna and Dr Shapiro.Once finished I was shown the work and asked if I was happy which I was.Went back to the hotel and logged on the net and chilled out for the night. I took two Vicodin for pain before I went to bed, woke up fine and didn’t need any more pain relief meds. I took two though just before my plane journey home to be safe.Next day Tuesday, checked out of hotel and went to SMG for a hair wash and haircut. They took more photos and a video of the work.Janna and Dr Shapiro chatted with me again to confirm I was happy. I then hung around and was invited to watch a live surgery of planting and cutting grafts which was very interesting. They were very professional and great at what they were doing.I would without any doubt say that if you choose to have a HT with SMG that you will have a great experience and receive a world class result.I flew home at 7.30 pm on Tuesday. I took some valium on the plane and slept most of the way back to Amsterdam.I would highly recommend Shapiro Medical Group going by my own experience. You can see my pictures at hairlossexperiences forum.Cheers BM.
