Hop is friendly and kind. She works efficiently and wants to see you happy with your haircut. She’s been working hard and has taken masks very seriously throughout the pandemic. It is a safe place to get a haircut (or perm). This is a good business to support.
Hop’s is the best—I’ve been to many of the bigger salons in the Twin Cities and paid 2-3x more to get haircuts that I was less satisfied with before she was recommended to me. My hair is super thick, which some stylists have trouble with, but Hop had no issues and understood what I was going for right away! A hidden gem for sure.
Hop is my go-to barber in Minnesota. She does a fantastic job with my hair (short, thick, and stiff). I would recommend Hop to anyone looking for a good quality and affordable haircut in MN!
Its hard to find a place with experience cutting asian hair and hairstyles, but since I found this place as a student its been my go-to. They offer lots of different services and affordable pricing for haircuts, and they do them well.I dont always have an idea of what I want my hair to look like, but the stylist makes suggestions and asks questions along the way and I end up with a cut Im very satisfied with after. But the times I came in with a picture or hair style in mind, they were able to do perfectly as well! Ive come in last-minute or the day before dates and got compliments every time. They increased prices for COVID, but they do an amazing job sanitizing and kept up service throughout the pandemic, so I think its totally warranted and worth the money. Dont sleep on Hops Salon!
Im not sure where all the negative comments are coming from. Ive been a regular at Hops for a few years now. There have been times where I ventured out to try a new salon but I end up paying way more for a haircut I dont love. I always come back to Hops because they are affordable and the ladies that work here are really nice and ALWAYS cut my hair well. Keep in mind that they are Asian owned in a majority white area, so it wouldnt surprise me if there were a few Karens in these reviews... Give them a shot they are worth your time and money.
Hop is one of the most talented stylists Ive had the privilege to know. She spends lots of time finessing each cut. She has a good vision of styling hair for each individual person. Ive referred many friends over years who love her! You wont be disappointed.
Anyone who gives less than five stars is a hater — Hop gave me a great cut at a fair price. This is my new favorite place for a trim!!!!!!!
If you live on campus/ Dinkytown (or anywhere else for that matter) I highly recommend giving Hops Salon a look! She is a kind woman who truly knows how to cut hair but unlike other major salons she is doing this independently and working as hard as she can. I came here sophomore year looking for a convenient cut but I have come here every month since then and continue to drive 20-30 minutes away to have my hair cut from her personally after I have moved. To me she is worth the drive and I have not once been disappointed in the quality she has given me (nor the price). My advise when you come here (In regards to other negative comments) is that1. Be very clear with what you want! Like all barbers and stylists but if she/whoever did not complete what you wanted then say something about it to get it corrected.2. Please be patient. She is working so incredibly hard to run this salon and as unorthodox as it may seem at first, she is doing her best and give her the time she needs (appointment or not) and is working to ensure that you get whatever service you need done.Overall, I have enjoyed coming here every month for the past 4 years and will continue to come here for the foreseeable future as long as I live near the cities.
Wonderful experience! The lady is super nice and her skill is great!
Hop does a good job at cutting hair, but its a little pricey ($35 w/tip) for a mens haircut for a college student. Still though, Id rather pay more here than risk going to great clips.
I had my hair cut last week. When i sat down in her chair, i immediately said, Don’t touch my hair on the sides next to my face. Well guess what? she trimmed that area after i told her not to. It is now 3/4” shorter on one side! The other side she didn’t touch. So now i have an asymmetrical haircut! I went to see her there very next day and explained to her what she did. She completely denied touching that side that’s shorter! I had no intention of writing a negative review initially however, because she denied her mistake and said, no i didn’t touch it, you said not to touch it and i didn’t! Really? That’s is merit for me to mention this. That is not how you run a business. The customer is always right!Own up to your mistakes, that’s an issue with customer service these days.
I dont believe the comments here. Believe me.But the price is expensive but you dont regret it.
The hair stylist was extremely impatient. She keeps saying so fast and rudely stop when I speak. The price is pretty cheap ($20~$30). But, its reasonable price for their cutting skill. However, its very expensive WITH CONSIDERING THEIR TERRIBLE SERVICE MIND.Thank you so much for ruing my day.
They just lost good cash payer (also tipper) again. The lady who operates the salon must not be in the service industry. She doesnt even know the reservation should be prior to walk-in customer. She just started to cut other walk-in customers hair on my reservation time, just because of that the customer had waited so long time. Wow, yeah, thats why people make a reservation. Thanks for making me spend more than an hour to just go there and back.Ill never go that place again. Even one star is worth for them.
I took a chance and booked a last minute appointment as the salon is close to my work. I got an outstanding haircut a great price! She clearly knows her craft and knew exactly what to do with my hair. I was impressed. In this location its so nice to have access to a real stylist and not a chain or a sports barber. I would highly recommend.
First of all, I understand that you cannot spend too much time on one persons hair. However, that does not excuse you from spending less than 10 min working on my hair and charging more than $20. I wanted her to trim the sides a bit, but before I even had the chance to speak, she was already waxing my very-poorly-done hair. If she could be more polite and attentive to the customers, I would maybe reconsider coming in again.
Very pleased. Hop was friendly and really helpful when cutting my hair, so efficient and spot on with her suggestions. I wanted to donate my hair and she knew just how get enough hair for donation while still leaving me with plenty of hair for a style I liked. Theres a student discount as well!
The hair stylist was extremely impatient. I went with a picture of what I wanted. I have long thick hair and I chose a style that would look good on me. I showed it to her and she spent like a second to glance at it. She cut my hair is some random manner. My hair now has no recognizable cut. There are some random layers here and there. It seemed like the person wanted to get done with her job as soon as possible. She didnt seem to be interested in her job at all, it was all about getting through customers as quicly as possible. I am definitely not going back to this place. Extremely dissatisfied. This place is only okay for hair if you would like to get a trim and didnt mind paying $25 for it ( which is the minimum I think).
Delicious comfort food. One of my favorite places to eat at.
Used to be a great place for a simple haircut when the mid-40 or 50s guy was there. Now the two women who do majority of the haircuts are very rude and unskilled. They never say hello to me when I enter their tiny room even after I say hi. And what is more important, I always find very obvious imperfections on my hair after they finish their job. Never gonna go there again.
Walked in for a trim and was very satisfied with how Hop did. She said she had a Salon earlier, but moved to Texas, and now back, so shes only had this location for 2 years or so. So she has a lot of experience with cutting hair.Theres a student discount, so my trim was $12 when I went. So thats even better. Definitely a good deal.
Good haircut. Very pleasant owner. Reasonable prices ($25 haircut, $5 beard trim).
The stylist did a phenomenal job of listening to what I wanted and delivering a high quality service!!Im in love with my new hair color and cut and will definitely be returning!
This is the WORST place I’ve ever gotten my hair styled and I’m never going here again. After the awful service, I looked up the prices on the website and saw I was charged $45 for styling when their website says $20 and up.The girl who cut my hair asked about my ethnicity and when I said “why?” she said “no reason, you all look the same”. She tried to save face by complimenting me but I should have walked out right then and there. Then she proceeded to style my hair in a manner unlike what I’ve ever experienced. She kept scratching my forehead with the brush, yanking at my hair in uneven sections, and used a roundbrush that was way too small. She only styled the top layers of my hair and I had to instruct her to style all of my hair, not just part of it. I kept trying to explain I wanted smooth hair with some wave to it and she ended up curling it unevenly at the bottom. I told her I’d never had service like this before and she said I should stick with my regular stylist. Unfortunately where I usually go, Salon La Terre, was fully booked that day. I am never going here again. She wasn’t rude but she did over-charge me and I shouldn’t have left a tip.
Horrible experience and would never go there again. The lady spent less than 15min to cut my hair and hurry to serve the next frequent customer. I feel really stupid and am regret to pay 27 dollars+tips for this kind of service. In the end, I have to redo the haircut at another place as it was a mess after this.
It was my first time getting a haircut at Hop’s Salon today. Not only did I love the haircut, she was such a nice person and easy to talk to. I’d definitely recommend this place to others.
I always get a great haircut from Hop. Have been going here for years and will continue.
One of the better places to get a reasonably-priced haircut near the U of M. Quality of service far exceeds that offered by Great Clips or similar chain competitors, though there can sometimes be a wait for walk-ins.
Always satisfied with my hair cuts here.
This place is tucked back into a seemingly strange office behind varsity bikes, however the stylst is very proficient in her work. Combined with a 10$ price tag for new customers and students, this is the best value haircut on campus and she would definitely appreciate the business.
Awesome shop. Hop is very nice and she really knows how to do hair. Would highly recommend!!!
She gives great haircuts! Definitely worth checking out for any new students to the area
I would highly recommend Hops if youre looking for a very reasonably priced haircut that still maintains quality. Hop was an excellent stylist and was enjoyable to converse with throughout the haircut.
Ive been going here for all of my haircuts since I started college. No-frills but good-looking haircuts for >$20.
Best haircut for students on a budget! Great professional and a very nice person.
Absolutely fantastic haircuts and friendly/helpful staff. Go-to spot for haircuts on campus.
They did good before. But recently everything changes. I come to have a haircut on Tuesday afternoon . Only one hairdresser here and she said: I am tired and busy and we will close soon, please come back tomorrow. Okay, I come back on Wednesday but receive same excuse… If someone around me wants a haircut, I will never recommend this store.
Very friendly staff that are easy to work with and very knowledgeable about what they are doing.
I got my haircut here and was very satisfied with the front bangs I got.
The lady who operates the business shouldnt be in the service industry. She is extremely rude and doesnt know how to listen to what the customer wants.
Always great service!
As a male, haircuts do not get better than this for $20. Hop is awesome!
My second haircut at Hops, quick, affordable, and stylish :)
They don’t do appointments...even though they confirmed a scheduled time on the phone. Expect to wait 30 minutes plus.
Worst haircut I have ever gotten. She (not the owner) worked very quickly, the ends are uneven, and I don’t even know what she did when she tried to do layers. Looks like there were chunks taken out of the side of my head, not to mention I asked for mid shoulder length (5-6 inches off) and my hair no longer touches my shoulders (she took off 8 or 9 inches). Needless to say I will never go back.
Nice cozy place for a cut.
Excellent service. And as a bonus, its really cheap!
I tried to schedule an appoinment and she was very rude, telling me that she doesnt want to schedule an appointment because walk-ins are better for her. I thought service businesses are supposed to have their customers, not themselves in mind? Very unprofessional.
Quick, inexpensive, quality haircuts
Quick, easy and great hair cuts
Made an appointment a week in advance, when I showed up they had already sent the stylist home and told me they could no longer take me. I was on time, even early for my appointment. Never coming back
Very friendly owner and solid haircuts
Good cuts
