Our Saturday excursion to Juicy turned out to be a success. I ended up choosing the Weekend Special Boil, which consisted of snow crab legs, shrimp, corn, potatoes, and a lobster tail. Everything was amazing! Hush puppies were slightly doughy, but everything else was excellent! The seasonings had a wonderful kick, not too spicy, garlicky and savory. With the signature Old Bay in the background. The crab legs, while not king size, packed a bountiful bite in each appendage. The shrimp were cooked well, as was the lobster tail. The corn and potatoes played critical support roles and performed admirably. We definitely will be back!
Ordered the Thursday Special, which was three sets of snow crab legs, shrimp, corn, and two redskin potatoes all for 30 bucks. And let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious! The crab was cooked perfectly and the shrimp tasted very fresh. For the seasoning I got the original Cajun with mild spice. It was just enough to make your nose run but not be painful. They serve their boils in a bag for a reason because it really does contain all the flavor which made Nothing taste plain. That said, after reading some reviews of this place some people say their food had no flavor. Really? The flavor was in fact so strong, I had to wash my hands three times in order to get it off! I also ordered clam chowder and it was probably the best Ive ever had. I highly recommend that you try this place because you wont regret it!Please note that the photo attachment to this review only shows a small portion of the seafood in the boil bag.
This would be my second time eating here, and both times that Ive eaten here I have had a very good experience. I got a fried fish and sweet potato fries. The fish was catfish. It was amazing The happy hour I believe is from 4:00 to 7:00 which is convenient especially during the week since I work till 5:00 I absolutely love the drinks at the offer and the food pairing I would say is amazing if youre looking for good fried seafood even their lobster which is steamed is very good too you will enjoy this place. Just be sure to try that steam lobster with butter on top but with their potato roll or it might be a soft roll it is very good delicious.
I happen to believe the pinnacle principals for any great seafood joint to be fresh ingredients, invigorating flavor, and a clean atmosphere. And you know what? This place hit the head on all of those hammers, HARD.Coming from FL I wanted to order the blue crabs and crawfish but settled in an adhoc combo of snow crab, muscles and crawfish as the blue crabs where out of stock. Overall I was pleasantly delighted and would highly recommend. Our waiter was also very polite, attentive and personable.
I purchased shrimp boil mild spicy seasoning ect..I was hoping after I walked in that the boil would be an Asian fusion boil. It was good yes I just wanted a nontypical boil . Its very beautiful inside for a sit down meal. The staff seem nice. I turned my leftover shrimp boil with its seasonings into a Udon soup . Im not sure but I think the seafood is frozen. My boil was very oily or buttery not sure which but I ate it at home so I cut it with a squeeze of a fresh lemon.
We went to the Cujan seafood restaurant on a Friday night. To our surprise, it was not busy as we thought, which made us feel comfortable for enough space from other customers. Overall I would rate the restaurant a four not five stars for below reasons:Pros: nice and clean. Very spacious. The costal themed decors are neat and Instagramable. The seafood was juicy and right amount of spiceness. Shrimp was large and fresh. Corn and potatoes were tasty socked in the seafood juice. The waiter was friendly and responsive.Cons: the snow crab legs were lack of freshness, tasted as if frozen for a long time. So were the calamari. For the quantity of the seafood in a bag, it’s overpriced.
Love ❤️ this placeDefinitely the best seafood place around here. I’ve tried a couple but I think this beats those. The sauce is so delicious and not oily at all. You can actually taste the sauce! And not the oils! The food is very appetizing and service is also great. Will definitely go back. For a (Juicy Cajun Seafood) 🦞 Restaurants in Middletown CT, this definitely is top notch in flavor and service! Was a bit hesitant to try it because the other two I’ve tried so far weren’t all that great. But I’m impressed
I had a cousin of mine has never been to New England come from out of state this weekend she said she had a taste for seafood and she was in the minds of some place that was like Joes Crab Shack so I found this place through Google it turns out that it was only 20 minutes away from where Im staying. And Ive never been there before Ive been to many seafood places that have boil in the bags and steam pots. The pro and the cons of this place are as follows well start first with the pros the customer service is good there seems to be an unlimited number of available seats the place wasnt busy at all for a Sunday afternoon. The cons the weekend special that they have on their menu had the snow crab legs shrimp potatoes and an ear of corn my cousin and I ordered the exact same meal but she actually got more literally twice as much more in her bag than I did. Normally when you order a boil-in-the-bag or a steamer pot you have corn snow crab potatoes corn and sausages and hard boiled eggs. At this restaurant if you want the sausages in your bag its an additional charge if you want the hard-boiled eggs in your bag is an additional charge of $2 as well. When you order soda there are no refills, if you would like another you must pay for another soda. We sat down placed our order I ordered the appetizer of the calamari which is fairly tasty. Our meal actually came to us within less than 10 minutes I was placing our order. I would have to say for what we received and what their prices are this was a one-time visit to this restaurant for me I can get more for the same price or less at some of the other Cajun boil-in-the-bag restaurants in Connecticut the seasoning of the food was good the corn in the bag was not fresh the corn kernels were deflated it was like the corn was old or had been sitting around for a while
If you love seafood that is not fried this is the place to go! The staff are very helpful, the seats feel like they are new, and the food is fresh. So many combinations of how you can have your seafood. I did the butter garlic with no spice weekend combo. Sorry no picture this time it was so good I forgot to take a picture.
I brought my family to did you see Cajun seafood restaurant for the first time last month. I never tried this type of food cooked in a bag before. The food was extremely fresh and delicious! We also had great service! I will be going back again for sure!
Ive been four times, the first experience was not great. I ordered the soft shell crab po boy, and was very disappointed, it had NO flavor! The second time I ordered the boil in the bag and it was delicious!!! I tried the fried fish Po Boy, and the lobster roll steamed and fried. The only thing I will be going back for is the boil.
The staff was a little standoffish at first, but they warmed up and were more friendly once we settled in. The food was good. When my toddler started to get restless, I asked for the check and the staff packaged up our food really nicely.update:I returned again and felt extremely shocked by the rudeness of the staff. seafood is my favorite, but my husband hates it-- so he ate before we stopped here. My children are small and dont eat much, but they love seafood so I decided to split my meal with them and order more later if we needed it. The waiter was very disgruntled that our family was only eating one meal, and asked multiple times if we were ordering anything else even though I said no very clearly. We were enjoying our meal when my baby began to fuss, so my husband took her outside. WHILE I was putting food in my mouth, the waiter asked are you all done here? I said no, and kept eating along with my children. There was lots of food still on our plate. My husband brought the baby back inside so I could breastfeed her. Maybe the waiter had issues with this because he kept returning to our table several times to ask if we were finished even though we were clearly still eating. He didnt refill our water or ask if we needed anything during the many times he interrupted our meal, and I didnt see him harrass the other guests in this way. Finally, when he asked again if we were finished (even though we still had half our food on our plate still), I asked for the check so I could eat at home in peace. The server didnt offer to bag our food, so I packed it up myself and left. Definitely NOT a family friendly environment. I will never be eating here again and urge families with children to pick a different. restaurant because you wont be welcomed here.
Food was hot and fresh with a very attentive staff. Plus you felt like you can enjoy your food without rush. Great place to eat if you like seafood and are in the neighborhood!
My husband and I was waiting for the Juicy Cajun Seafood to open in Middletown for couple months. We went there second week they open . It was amazing . Seafood was cook perfectly. It’s little unique there but a lot of fun becouse they serve the seafood in bag and then you get bib and gloves . It’s little messy but it’s just a lot of fun + it’s delicious.
The food was good, and more varied than I had expected. There is a good lunch menu with some non seafood options. Very attentive wait staff.
Excellent fast friendly service. I was a group of 8 and everything was great. Their beverages could be better the sodas are always flat
Fresh kind of Cajun! The lobster pasta was very good and on lunch menu.
Great seafood bags and raw oysters, defi Italy recommend for some quality seafood. Nice staff and great environment!
This place was amazing I ordered the crawfish and shrimps and a bowl of shrimp gumbo my boyfriend had the king crab legs and a bowl of clam chowder absolutely delicious soooooooo good it was the best the service was excellent I dont remember the name of my server he was wonderful Yessssssssssssss we will be back.😊😊😊
I got so sick from a seafood boil bag. I believe it was the mussells.2 hours after I left. I was unable to keep anything down and I almost had to go to the hospital. Very clean establishment but the food got me extremely sick..beyond my belief. I am scared to ever eat seafood again. The sick experience was very scary.
I normally don’t leave reviews especially negative ones. We ate outside and staff was attentive and very nice. It was not crowded. I’m not sure what made our dinner Cajun. My husband had Cajun spaghetti with lobster. It tasted like normal pasta without the kick. I ordered the catfish basket. It’s not a basket… it’s a plate. The fish was cooked well but did have a good amount of breading. It was served with tartare sauce. The breading was flavorless. I asked for salt and pepper. They gave you 3 pieces of fish (kinda like chicken finger size) which was adequate but it is a thin fish so not very filling. The fries (regular) were cold and some were not even crunchy. Clearly the fries sat around waiting for the fish since that was hot. We went, we ate, and we checked this one off our list. I can’t think of reason to return especially when there are so many good restaurants in Middletown.
I didnt do anything cajun but the catfish was good and the service was pretty fast!
My husband and I happened upon Juicy Cajun Seafood on our last trip to Middletown. Ive got to say, I was highly impressed! The owners and wait staff were attentive and friendly, the restuarant, including the bathrooms were immaculate. They happily allowed us to order another days special when we requested, and substituted certain items for us as well. The food was so delicious, and there was so much! If you love cajun, then this place is a must try!
Good food. Pretty pricey but it is seafood.
What CT was waiting for an actual LA style seafood boil. I will preface this with my boyfriend and I have been having severe heartburn issues lately so we decided to go with the Juicy special sauce mild, I wish we had done med spicy just because although mild was delicious I do like a but of a kick. Otherwise everything was wonderful. We ordered 1lb of crawfish and 1/2 lb of snow crab and it was enough for us. I want to say the corn was delicious and he loved the potatoes. The services was amazing and the food came out so quick. You have to try if in area.
I know for a fact the 5 star ratings are coming from people who definitely don’t know how real seafood boil taste like. 3 times I gave them a try and all 3 times I received food with literally no taste at all. It seems like they boil all their food for the day with plain water then just add the sauce/seasoning after the order is placed. Wouldn’t recommend it at all maybe try boiling soho
So I was expecting authentic cajun southern style fresh seafood, and this definitely wasnt it. Im not saying it was bad, but for the prices here I expected more. Tasted like frozen pre-breaded food if you ask me.
1st time customer. Ordered chicken Po Boy to go for wife and son, raw oysters for me. Wife & son said the Po Boy was “great”. So were the French fries that were included. My oysters were also excellent. This was a to-go order and they packed my oysters in a styrofoam tray on ice. Still cold and fresh when I got home 15 minutes later.Small complaint; no hot sauce or lemons included? Next time will check. Also, I have celiac spru(gluten-free) and they did not have separate menu or offer any specific choices, except “boiled fish”, which was not listed on menu as GF. Will definitely go back. Ps dessert menu looked mouth wateringly gooood.
Friendly staff. Outdoor table was a perfect spot to enjoy a warm evening. Food was delicious!
So good the 1st time I went here with a feiend, friend, I took my husband back 2 fays later!!Absolutely AH-mazing and fresh seafood boils!!! I got the Weekender which had snowcrab, shrimp, lobster and potatoes/corn. The cajun seasoning is GLUTEN FREE AND CELIAC FRIENDLY!! (Certified by Nima)
Had an awesome seafood boil dinner with my family. Restaurant is clean. Staff if friendly. Bar is beautiful. Definitely would recommend this place. You will not be disappointed. Cheers to 2021. Enjoy
Excellent service, wonderful food and dessert. We dined al fresco. Middletown is a wonderful place.
I have gotten sick 2 twice from eating here. Two more people I know got sick, I’m staying away. Food tastes good but makes you sick with gastrointestinal problems.
Husband and I decided to try this place last night! They were busy! We were greeted by the owner as soon as we got out of the car which was great! This same owner also owns Mikado and the nail salon next to a mikado in case you didn’t know-Service was great, friendly and quickFood was excellentHusband loved the gumbo, I had clam chowder. We ordered fried Calamari (calamari was great but needed a sauce) raw bar of oysters was great. The BEST item we ordered was the large boiled meal with potatoes, clams, corn shrimp and what ever else was in that bag! It was spectacular! They even gave you disposable food grade gloves to eat that!We loved everything about the food and atmosphere! Highly recommend! We sat outside and it was great!
Great outdoor atmosphere, excellent service, very friendly owner, good food, great Cajun fries!
Food was amazing.... Service was atrocious.... Experience could not justify the cost.Went there with my wife last night. Upon entering we were immediately seated, then waited for about 20minutes before anyone even came to our table to greet us. Other tables were seated around us and then promptly attended to. Once they figured out that nobody had been to our table a server came up and took our order. After 10 minutes our server returned to notify us that the beer I ordered was out of stock, in fact they didnt have any non-alcoholic beer even though 4 different types were listed in the nenu. After saying Ill just take a water, drinks took another 10+ minutes to come out. We did however spot the bartender walking around aimlessly though. So at this point weve been seated for more than 40 minutes without so much as water placed on our table. At one point we saw the fresh oysters we ordered on a cart rolling past us to another table and then when they figured out the oysters werent for that table, they were rolled back into the kitchen. 8 minutes later the server came out to ask us if we wanted the oysters prior to our meal. We said yes thats fine. (Obviously I dont want them just sitting open in the hot kitchen)They were then brought out. Oysters were improperly shucked, they were open but not separated from the shell. (If you are going to charge a premium for raw oysters at least shuck them properly)When we were finishing up with the oysters the food came. The timing on the food wasnt terrible all things considered. Maybe 30-35minutes after we ordered it.We Ordered the weekend special with the juicy special seasoning and medium spice. It was absolutely amazing flavor-wise, albeit a little small considering an almost $40 price tag for the dish. (We were still hungry after our meal and wanted to get out of there so we ended up going down to whey stationary for a grilled cheese sandwich afterwards)Once finished with our food we waited around for a few minutes before getting the servers attention and asking for the check. After another 10 minutes waiting for our check we went up to register to see if we could expedite the process and get out of there. After working in the restaurant industry for almost a decade, my assessment is as follows: The food is incredible. Its really a shame because the food we had was very tasty and their recipes are fantastic. Unfortunately the front of house execution fell short on every level, the service was basically non existent, the front of house staff was disjointed, disorganized and without any leadership. The experience as a whole didnt come close to justifying the cost. In fact as good as it was, by the end of our 1.5 hours of dining we couldnt wait to leave even though we were still hungry.
This place is great. excellent seafood with perfect cajun seasoning, with exceptionally low prices.
Some of the seafood is good but other things are bland and generic, like the fried clams.
A little on the expensive side.... but worth it.
I would consider this an average restaurant, my experience was varied. Im a fan of calamari and what they served me was sad looking, it looked almost like onion rings, they didnt serve it with marinara sauce (debatable whether it needs to be served with it), I asked for marinara sauce and our server said they didnt have it in house (Ill get back to this in a moment). Our server was a nice person, but she left us waiting FOREVER to order our food, she was not responsive at all, this happened multiple times. I point that out because the place is not that big, unless she was doubling as a chef in the back there was no reason to leave us hanging for that long. (Back to my marinara issue) A friend of mine noticed that they had fried cheese on the menu, I wondered if that could probably be mozzarella sticks, I said to myself you cant serve mozzarella sticks without marinara, so when the waitress came back I asked whats this fried cheese? She said it was a type of cheese that was battered and fried, which I followed up with does it come with any sauce?, which she was quick to point out that it came with a red sauce, the puzzle pieces clicked in her head as I said THATS MARINARA SAUCE. We laughed a bit but the calamari was nasty so it stuck with me. So on to the steamed bag of seafood, this was definitely the highlight of the night, I had 1lb of shrimp with medium heat cajun seasoning, the shrimp were large and delicious, it was great. My girl had the weekend special which had 1 Lobster tail, 1 crab leg, and shrimp. My son had 1 crab leg and a bowl of shrimp fried rice. 1 Piña Colada, 1 chocolate martini, and one virgin colada. Three people and my total with the tip included was $185. For comparison the following night we went to a steakhouse with 5 people and we spent the same amount. The place was definitely overpriced, the experience was ok at best and the service was obviously not good. I might return for the shrimp one day but the negative experience and high price will stick with me for a while.
Some days are better than others there. Good food but last time just wasnt as great. The food wasnt as flavorful and we didnt get a great waitress.
The food and my Pina Colada were amazing. 😋
Exactly what downtown needed, good seafood!! The oysters were fresh, and the crawfish were huge!! Everything was tasty, and I cant wait to go again!!
Sadly disapointed...maybe im spoiled....but this was clean and very nice spot filled with frozen reheated food, ribeye cut so thin and over cooked couldnt recognize it....or maybe just over reheated...soup was decent but everything else was stringy and chewy. i would not go back unless friends request it and it was an opportunity for something better to try.....i have no intent of trying again....
Love the food here and the vibe is great here and place is really clean. The staff is great.
Food was good. Service was better
Friendly service but expensive, low quality food!
Had the catfish and it was delicious.
Amazing food, awesome prices, super nice staff and service! Definitely my new favorite restaurant
The seafood boils are scrumptious, but the service not so good.Staff is short and wait times are unpredictable.I 🙁
We ate there tonight. Service was great! Food was awesome! I had the Cajun Seasoned mussels and clams, along with a gumbo soup. The Gumbo soup was great! I had the Med spicy clams and mussels, the spice was just right. I didnt burn my mouth, but yet had some kick. We will be returning again soon.
Judging by the reviews we decided to try this place out and was highly disappointed with the service and the food. The staff wasn’t friendly at all to us. We paid $90 for 2 boils that barely had anything in them. And the sauce was watery and not flavorful at all. We will not be back!! I only gave 2 stars because the restaurant itself is really nice and clean.
Decided to get some takeout and finally try this place that I drive by almost daily. We definitely must have ordered the wrong things. I was really hoping for that authentic cajun flavor. The signature cajun pasta was dry and not cajun-y at all and the shrimp po boy had several shrimp, but was not as tasty as we had hoped. That being said, we will give it another shot to try one of the boils, but were in no rush.
This rating is based on two things:1. If your are going to serve gumbo, take the time to make it from a roux. It is labeled as gumbo soup and you can see that the ingredients were added like making a soup versus cooking the trinity first. Not sure why carrots were added, not wrong, but an odd choice. Their version of a seafood gumbo is shrimp gumbo soup. This is simply 3 cooked shrimp placed on top of the base container of soup. Either version is a poor representation of a gumbo.2. Check your receipt carefully as I was charged ten cents for the bag that my takeout was in. Class move right there. There are several classic Cajun seafood dishes missing from the menu, so hopefully they will add them in the near future.
Staff was super friendly and manager kept on constantly checking in on us food was so good it made you want to order seconds
I heard the hype of great seafood in middletown wasnt worth the hype there seafood taste frozen i bought mussels and crab boil wasnt impressed at all. I try it I doubt I would ever go back
Was seated and forgotten. Waited 20 mins and still no service. First and last time visit. We walked out and went to a different restaurant
Stop everything you are doing and go eat here. After moving to CT from Texas I have been looking for great Cajun seafood. The search is over. Our server Harry was knowledgeable and fun. Staff member Sonny made you feel like you were on vacation on Bourbon Street. I ordered the snow crab and crawfish combo and was blown away. The portions are incredible, the flavor and quality were outstanding, and the cocktails complimented the meal perfectly. Make sure not to skip dessert either because it’s insane. I’m counting down the minutes until I can return.
Very good crabs and seafood
Excellent place to go. I recommended. The service is fantastic 👏
Great customer service and great food. My first time there and I’d recommend it for sure
Our server had no hospitality and its not real Cajun food
We’ve never had Cajun before, but they were really friendly and helped us order (and it’s a very, very easy menu to digest). Everyone was very helpful and friendly. They have a great patio that you can dine at now, or you can do take out. The food was FANTASTIC, the drinks were superb (I never noticed passion fruit in a mix, but it stands out in their hurricanes in a very tasty way).If you’re looking for a fun night out, then you cannot go wrong with this place, especially if you’re new to Cajun food like we were.We cannot wait to go back again. Give them a try ASAP (I bet they get popular soon, try to beat the rush!)
The shrimp is delicious but cocktail are over priced.
We were really stoked to visit and I was not disappointed. We ordered a half dozen oysters which were crisp and luscious, snow crab and shrimp, mussels and little neck clams. The boils were phenomenal, full of flavor and the perfect level of spice. I would recommend getting a side of rice or bread so you can dip in the sauce which really is that good!
Very good food the server Alex was very helpful and respectful guy it’s a must to eat here again great food fresh I will add also!!!!!!
The mozzarella sticks were cold and the chicken tenders were very bland but the fish sandwich was good and the star of the show was the French fries
Surprised me.. it was actually ok! Great addition to Middletown...
Really pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. True Cajun! Worth a visit for sure and good prices, daily deals too. Thank you
A favorite place of my sister who lives in Middletown. I had the best crawfish outside of Louisiana. Her shrimp dish was also excellent.
Best seafood spot will be coming back lots of times me and wife had good time
Varied menu, done really well :Gumbo soup had the right amount of smoky, fried catfish was light, lobster mac n cheese generous (lobster) and not over-cheesed, and hushpuppies wed move out of state for. Bar patrons were raving about how fresh/juicy the oysters were. Service was gracious, prices moderate and ohyes CLEAN and safe. Everyone masked and distanced, great experience!!
I don’t like the type of food they serve, butmy dad seemed to love the place and the food.
I got the fire weekend special and added on a 1/2 dozen of sausages, wasnt that bad also wasnt that spicy. And some of the shrimp were not clean
Best Cajun seafood in the state in my opinion.
Food was amazing. An abundance of Fresh Seafood seasoned to perfection. Not into seafood try the lamb chops! Great soft opening June 11, 2020. Owners and manager is very hospitable.
This place is delicious. I love their crab cakes. Sweet potato fries were on point. Food was great. Definitely going back.
Amazing! So much flavor tons of food!
Went for a friends birthday and we were beyond pleased with our experience
Worth checking out!
To these guys knocked it out of the park! Amazing seafood!
