There are sports-oriented martial arts schools, schools that focus on traditional art forms using old-style weapons (swords, etc.), and there are schools that focus on modern, realistic self-defense. This school definitely falls into the latter category. In addition to hand-to-hand self-defense scenarios, this school also teaches practical defense techniques against knives, guns, clubs, etc., that are as effective for the average Joe as it is for women, children and older adults. As another police officer who trains there, I know the techniques and training I have received, has made me a safer officer.If you want tournament trophies and skills with a samurai sword, check out the other schools... however, if you want practical, realistic, self-defense, check out this place with an open mind.
