The gym is very nice, the equipment is up to date. Nice location if youre just getting off of I-485 and not busy around the hours of 1 to 3. Im not a member of Lifetime Fitness but it was a quick process to pull up and get a good workout in. Front desk staff was really sweet, nice and helpful.

This place is pretty misleading as the photos listed are not of this gym. It’s a bit depressing in here. I’ve been twice and just can’t put my finger on exactly what it is that makes this place so daunting. It’s one big room, like a gymnasium but carpeted with low ceilings on either side. Seams clean enough but I saw powdered hand prints on almost all the weights in the Olympic lifting area which is proof people aren’t wiping down the equipment.

Ive been going here for several months on the regular, initially started because of their childcare and absolutely love it. The kids staff are so kind and friendly, including all staff at the gym. Have yet to attend a class but overall great atmosphere and setting. Definitely recommend.

Lifetime has showed constant concern for the health and well being of all clients during the pandemic. They have strict cleaning policies and the staff is very conscientious of wearing masks. In addition to the cleaning policies, the staff is very friendly and helpful and always willing to go above and beyond. Travis is by far the most friendly and personable employee. He makes all clients feel like they belong in the gym and pushes everyone to go harder.

Try to go one to three days a week. They are very nice and no body shaming there.Recommend that location love the staff.

So the gym is closing down in October and they are offering its current members a discounted rate of $129 a month to join there resort-like Life Time Charlotte club. How is going from $30 a month to $130 a discount? Your resort style location is on the other side of town. This is heartbreaking to find out.

The gym is currently suffering from a broken HVAC unit and its not being disclosed to potential members. The information was actively blocked by the front desk employees such that I did not get a full explanation until after my 7 day grace period for the refund of my sign up fee had passed. The equipment is fine, the facility is fine, the staff is not.

Greatly enjoyed the gym. They had 9 squats racks. Very pleased w the amount of equipment & space to work out.

Over the years I attended all the gyms in the area and worked at three. This gym is the best. Very professional staff. Very clean and organized. The manager always attentive and personally involved in every aspect of the operation. The face towels and shower towels are always available. The best sauna in the area. Members are courteous and friendly.

I have loved using this place as my training grounds for a little shy of 2 years now. Im very sad that the Location in Matthews is moving 😭

Equipment is always busy sometimes it’s way tooHot in the gym. Also staff was rude to me when I took of the mask for a split second to readjust it, they acted like I just pulled a gun on someone. When I was in the middle a set curling 50lbs both hands my mask slid of my nose a bit and staff came up rudely and caused me to set my weight down to fix my mask... like can you not at-least let me finish my set... so frustrating. I know we have to follow guidelines and I’m all for it but this is just too far.

Outstanding gym and very nice aquatics center with a posh resort like flare. But its the courteous and respectful way that Im treated by staff and guests (whom are incidentally, equally racially/ethnically diverse) that laid the foundation for my decision to switch over my longtime membership from the YMCA. Love this place.

My client went here for the first time today to start her program and the male staff member at the reception desk was highly inappropriate, making comments about her appearance, requiring her to sign up for a free training session that she stated she did not want, and claiming that the staff member was her boyfriend when calling the member of the personal training team over. Highly unprofessional and unacceptable. I was very upset to get a call from her asking me if these things were normal at large gyms. They are not. Do NOT go here if you are looking for a safe space to workout.

PROS- Good selection of free weights and machines when not busy.- Large open environment.CONS- Free weight section lacking enough plates for everyone when busy.- A/C units frequently break down and take several days to repair.- Membership cancellation unpleasant and unnecessarily difficult.Decent experience with Lifetime until I tried to cancel. Called and was transferred to an “Account Manager”. Was told the only way to cancel was to write a letter and drop it off in person or send through snail-mail. He was argumentative and combative about the process. I think they are sad because gyms are dying.

Unbelievably rude staff, and to make matters worse they enjoy it like they get litteral enjoyment from being rude. Disgusting. They treat you like you’re a kid in middle school.

Great place to workout with your friends

The gym was real nice with a great staff. There are some gyms in Charlotte that would judge you if you looked a certain way. I know because I sampled a few of them. I had nothing but great experiences with Lifetime. Once COVID hit, I got rid of old furniture around my house, bought a peloton and other workout machines. My company moved us home base full time so there was no sense for me to keep the membership while paying for peloton. If you are in need of a gym, this is the place to go. Personally, by my buying an at home cardio machine or peloton has saved me more money and time. By time I would get in the car, drive to the gym, and then drive home I would be done with my workout.If you like working out and being around people go here. If you are like me, and like working out alone. Buy a peloton and a workout machine for home. In the end it is much more cost efficient. If I ever go to the gym again, which I will not, then I would go here.

Workout was challenging but not overwhelming

I like this gym. But there are way too many pointless machines that take up a lot of space. There are ab machines that never get used and are only good at causing back pain. I wish they would move some of those lesser used machines out and give people more room to stretch.

Safe and healthy practice while being able to workout is awesome. The staff has been super friendly and accommodating. Huge selection of equipment and weights.

Really good gym for weights, cardio, and group aerobics and yoga. They have trainers, and the monthly rate is VERY reasonable. Showers and towel service are included. They also have on site child care.

Been coming here for awhile and discovering new classes and amenities. Great fitness experience. Tech enabled and the locker system is very easy to use. Not too crowded during off peak hours. There is a yoga studio and large class studio. Ton of machines and free weights and great staff.

Just spoke with Beth the receptionist on the phone and had the worst conversation. I mean could you seriously be any LESS helpful? Waste of a call much rather focus on Gyms who communicate properly and want to help

Mari Brennan is the absolute best personal trainer. Her knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, nutrition, mind-body fitness, musculoskeletal, and eastern Georgia elongation technique is phenomenal. Mari gets 6.98 stars on the 5 star scale.

The women’s locker rooms were disgusting. No proper lighting. No toilet paper dispensers installed, they leave toilet paper rolls on tampon trash cans. No one flushed the toilets which added to the smell. Exposed plumbing on walls, faucets installed incorrectly and too close to the back of sink. The staff in the childcare center were very nice but it was not enough staff so they have a woman who cleans the bathrooms and equipment fill in, in the childcare center. Not fair to her to fill two very different roles and doesn’t seem hygienic. They need to get their act together over here. In addition both cardio equipment I used shook the whole time in use. Older machines that need replacement or maintenance. I won’t be back to this location. Cleanliness should always be number one. I’m surprised this is a lifetime fitness.

Just had my membership revoked with a vague explanation and no chance to defend myself. I’ve been a member for over 10 years and always bring positive energy and motivation to everyone in the gym. Apparently I offended someone and Lifetime would rather ban me than give me a chance to defend myself or apologize. To whom I have no idea. I have made great friends and feel like the morning crowd is my family and they just took my family away from me. We live in the land of the offended. Hide behind an email to corporate and anonymous complaint. Accused = guilty. For anyone that’s reading this, Lifetime management is not on your side. Please know that I’m a kind gentle sweet inspirational man. Thanks.

I have been a member here for 4 years. First of all these pictures that they have posted for this gym are not correct. The gym looks nothing like the pictures. The staff is not friendly at all. They are never smiling when you walk in. They act very stuck up and rude. They allow them to be on their phones at the front desk. Ive come in before and the girl could not take her eyes off her phone while she was scanning my card. Who allows staff to sit on their phones while working? They also allow staff to sit and eat at their desk while you are working out which is unprofessional. The outdated machines are constantly broken and take a while to fix. They finally updated their cardio equipment. This place is constantly packed. Classes are happening in every room and even in the middle of the gym which makes it hard to do anything while you are there. They allow girls to pretty much workout in whatever they want. They charge you 30 bucks a month and have a strict guest policy. Im honestly thinking about joining another gym because I dislike this one so much.

Love this gym! Very spread out with plenty of room for any type of exercise. They have something for everyone and the staff is very friendly and wants to help you reach your goals. Tried many different gyms including the Y and this one is the best in my opinion. They do not have a pool or certain amenities like that, but if you just want to focus on fitness this is the place to go.

Clean during the pandemic, temperature checks to enter, sanitizer everywhere.

Cramped workout space. The photos are stock photos from company website and are misleading. Womens bathroom is always gross. These people pay all this money to workout, but they dont have the good sense to flush a toilet. Showers have hardly any water pressure and hair is often on top of the drain from the day before. I felt somewhat pressured during my onboarding about signing up for additional services. Personal trainer Im paying to meet with is hard to get a hold of to set up appointments. Once you sign that piece of paper, you are essentially at their mercy and practically have to beg to receive the services they are going to automatically draft your bank account for. Cancellation requires a 30 day notice. I wont be at this gym much longer.

Life Time Fitness is so great. The employees welcome you like family. This a great place for kids. The child care is excellent and they take care of your child. Its much better than the YMCA.

I have been a member at lifetime for over 6 years. The gym is clean and the staff is friendly. The gym is great and accommodates for any style of training; bodybuilding, crossfit, or just general health. Alex is the manager and does a great job updating and repairing equipment.

Very nice for the money. Takes them too long to have broken eqpt repaired. I have been a member for a few years. It is a good gym. The staff is excellent.

Lifetime on Independence was great when I first began going there, but it seems to have gone downhill over the past 6-9 months and I dont see management doing much about it. At least half of the TV screens on the treadmills are out of order and the temperature setting seems to be going up all the time. It may be comfortable for the staff, but when I am working out, I dont want to sweat. That accomplishes nothing. I know you can never please everyone with the temperature settings, but it really does get warm, compared to other workout centers I have belonged to, Im told the temp is set at 72. Again, great for the staff, but not so great for those paying their salaries. Given a choice, Id prefer 70. Other than those two complaints, the rest is just fine, including a fantastic staff.

Been a member for a few months now. Very clean and comfortable gym to get in a workout. Friendly staff. Bathroom and locker area is above average. Biggest complaint, water fountain not consistently offering cold water and it can get a bit warm at times in the gym.

I was a member at Lifetime for 3 months, solely because they have childcare options while I work out. I left Planet Fitness to come here and immediately hated it. They allow girls to wear whatever they want, I regularly saw half naked girls while trying to work out - no thanks. The gym is always crowded, waiting on machines. They have 6 bikes total, the cardio area is small and its congested so when youre working out, youre even hotter because all the people in a small space. I was told I offended someone by standing on the hip abductor machine, but Ive seen countless females do it and they never get talked to. The last straw was their guest policy. You can bring 2 guests a month, they cant be the same person, and if you want to bring a guest youve previously brought that month? 20.00 per visit. Memberships are 29.99 - why is the guest pass for ONE DAY almost what it costs for ONE MONTH memberships??? The staff is 90% stuck up, the trainers are over priced and for the most part youre paying for a membership to go in and look at girls with barely any clothes on and men that eat steroids for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No Thanks, Ill go back to PF.

Friendly employees, clean facilities, great group fitness and personal training options

Good gym, probably the best selection of Hammer Strength equipment Ive seen in a gym. Plenty of free weights, flat benches and adequate dumb bells. Seems to be a large selection of classes and cardio machines which I dont use. Gym is cleaner than most, staff is excellent and they provide small towels. I also belong to LA fitness and Id give LT the edge on equipment and LA the edge on the facility.

I was a big fan of this gym until recently. The addition of a million rowing machines and other RARELY used equipment leaves little to no room for stretching or band work. You used to be able to do all kinds of foot work drills with ladders and other things, now there is absolutely no space for that. The giant “jungle gym” in the middle is near useless, basically something to hold TRX bands(and subpar punching bags), yet takes up a very large space. The room where the classes are held is ONLY used for classes now, and results in even less space for activities for members not in those classes. Why is this not open to the rest of the gym like it used to be? I used to recommend a lot of people to this gym, now there is almost no reason to.

Love this place! the atmosphere is just amazing. I was scared to go to a gym before I joined here but im so glad I did! visited other places before I went here to see what they had and this gym beat them by a landslide. friendly staff and they help you with anything you need. very affordable. my brothers, friends and I go here. totally recommend :)

Just left Charlotte because of a job transfer and I wish I was still here. I LOVE this gym and the staff which is more than I can say for where I am now. Great facility, clean, super friendly staff, trainers, and the child care center has never given me issue. My son has been going with me for just over a year and never had any incidents and he loves Miss Jen. Cindy, Alex, Umut, Jesse, Toni, and so many more will jump at the chance to help you because they genuinely want to see you reach your goals.

This is absolutely the worst gym organization ever. They will cheat and lie and manipulate to get you to sign up to a club that is not even real! Then when you realized you have been scammed they will make it hard to cancel! Please please buyer beware! These are really awful people with zero integrity!!! They don’t offer what they advertise for!!

I have had a lifetime membership in 3 different states and when I moved to NC I was excited to transfer the membership. Until I saw the level I was being promised. I was not thrilled to see that half of what I loved about Lifetime was not offered at this level club. Yes, It is nice and they treat you well, but it did not make up for all that you lose when you step down from a silver or platinum membership.In NC it is pivotal to have a pool. It is way too hot and humid not to. With a Bronze level you lose so many amenities, you might as well go to the YMCA or the JCC. I used to use my lifetime membership for 2-4 hours daily. Now I have no problem taking my money elsewhere to get the amenities that I enjoyed there. It sucks though because Life Time really is at a level that most gyms are not. I am very disappointed.

I visit for the first time and explain I have 30 to 40 min and I want to try their facilities. The woman asked if I was interested in a membership and I told her I didnt know yet. She then said I can purchase a day pass or get a full tour that would take 10 to 15 minutes so just said maybe I will come back when I have more time.....seems like the people working the front dont care about their business, but other than that your cafe looked good from the front door...but will never know.Update:After going back and being a member. The classes are unparalleled along with the facilities impeccable Childrens Programs/activities. Your children are well taken care of here The price is high but you get what you pay for.

Love this gym! Super clean, the staff are polite and respectful. I just moved which made my commute to the gym a lil longer but I dont mind. If I went to another gym I would miss it. None other like it.

Used to love this gym but lately I’ve noticed since the big lifetime fitness opened this place has been slacking. My biggest issue is that they never seemed to have the air on. It never was like that. They keep the fans on but all it does is blow hot stagnant air around. Please do something about your hvac issue whether it’s corporate or unit not working correctly. I go there religiously and speak to a lot of members who are all annoyed about how hot it is there. As far as staff they are very friendly

I am new south Carolina, I was planning on joining lifetime because in Omaha nebraska the lifetime they had was great, I will not be joining this lifetime strictly because of what Im seeing in these reviews, any gym that can cut your membership without an explanation sees you as a number not a person.

Tons of equipment - almost too much. Barely any room to find your own space to work with free weights or stretch.

Very busy place and not as clean as it should. Also, the members can be rude and disrespectful.

Been a member for 6 months now. Great facility thats clean and well maintained. The weights and barbells are like new and I dont see rust on anything. My only issue is the locker rooms are a little tight so sometimes you can get cramped by someone using a nearby locker. But a very good gym and very reasonable rate. I used to go to Dowd YMCA which is the gold standard for YMCAs. Lifetime gives me all I had at the Y (didnt use the pools or basketball) for less than half the price!

Great gym with all the equipment maintained, clean and in working order. The layout is also nice. and the personal trainers are chill. Free Wi-Fi for members and guest.

Will not be joining this gym strictly due to decade long member Mike’s unexplained and unethical membership termination. Because a staff member decided? How embarrassing. That alone makes me weary to join. Also the guest restriction is ridiculous. But no restriction on attire? No thanks.

This gym is great of you go in, quietly use the facility and leave again. Most of the trainers are nice, but dont expect the management to care about you if there is ever an issue. I had a terrible experience trying to bring my sister and brother in law in for a workout a while back, even though I NEVER use my guest passes, and now even worse they just canceled the membership of a guy who has been there since before it was Lifetime, with a very vague excuse that someone (an employee, not even a customer) complained about him. He was given no chance to defend himself or even to know what the actual problem was to try to make it right. And this is someone who consistently lights up the room when he walks in and brings more positive energy to that place than 10 other people put together. Bad move Lifetime. Ive been a member for 5 years, but Ill be looking for a new place to work out and I hope a lot of people join me. Thats no way to treat your members.

I am only giving this club a 1 star review not because of the club, but because of Lifetime guest policies. I was a member when it was Lifestyle Family Fitness. And even worked there at LFF in 2011. The one thing I learned was, guest with intensions of joining need more than one visit to make a decision. This isnt a car being test driven, for some its a change of lifestyle or maybe a change of venue. Whatever the reason may be, I cant get my current guests to join at Lifetime because ethey can only come one time, thats it. At the YMCA a member can bring guests 3 times a year. How can a person know if theyll like the club if they cant experience during all times of the week. Sunday crowd is different from Monday night crowd. I recommend revisiting your guest policy..and oh when I worked there we actually had to spend time with the guest...not just shake their hands and send them on their way. I know the GM at this club as I was the one who enrolled him as a member when I was Lifestyle..I lay no blame on him as I believe he does a great job with members and the club as a whole. I have reached other reviews and agree with some, disagree with others. Either way, its OUR club and I believe we can help change this policy. My most recent guest wouldnt join because he could come back for other workouts...and hes a seriously committed member at A club in Indian Trail. Do you want more guests? Or more members?

Awful experience top to bottom. They try to save money any way they can. Both clubs will not run their acs. The manager alexander shaw harassed me for monthes to join and then charged me twice as much as everyone else. It may be because of my religion. No clue. They never fix anything at either lifetime. If something breaks they remove it and dont replace it. I wish i never joined. If you get it for 10$ it may be worth it but they charged me 35 a month. GARBAGE!

The child center located at the Gym in Matthew NC is inadeqaute to take care of children. There is only one person watching all of the kids while attending parents who pick up and drop off kids. Due to lack of oversight of the children my child was bit twice on the face by another child. A prior time I left my child at the child center and my child had been crying for more than ten minutes and the guy taking care of the children did not even bother to call me. I would have went to pick up child if i knew he had been crying for so long. There should be two people at the child center location not one. one person is inadequate and unsafe for children especially if they are new borns and toddlers when they do not have defenses or know how to defend themselves. Furthermore, the lady today who was looking supposedly babysitting said that the other child has had a habit of biting. If the gym personal knew that the girl had tendencies of biting children then why was that girl in the child room making it an unsafe environment for children.

Are you kidding me!!! I read a review that says they dont like to sweat when I work out!! Lol and another review that said the child care wasnt good enough. ITS a gym jackass !!! Not a day care !!! Cool staff and a great number of machines and free weights

I wish I could give a 0. Our experience with LifeTime started out ok until my wife decided to come and bring our daughter along to leave her, just for a short time, in the child care center with staff who LifeTime refers to as fully certified child watchers. The first incident occurred when my wife came to get our daughter to take her home and found her, our 1 year old, being held by a young boy. We, of course, brought this issue to the child care workers attention and followed it with an email to the manager of this location. I was told that the problem would be addressed and trusting that a company will do as they state, we gave them another shot. The next time my wife arrived to pick our daughter up from the child watch center, she found our daughter crying out and wrapped up in the power cords underneath the computer desks in the area for the older children, not a place for a baby. My wife asked the child care worker, who was enjoying her doughnuts and playing on the computer, if she had trouble hearing my daughters screams for help and the girl shrugged her shoulders and said she didnt hear her or know she was in the computer area (a great thing to hear from someone whose job is to watch children). After the incident, Id had enough, I advised the front desk attendant that I was appalled at the manner in which my daughter was cared for and let them know that I would never again set foot in LifeTime. I made it clear I had no intention of continuing our membership. There was no explanation of LifeTimes supposed policy of filling out a cancellation form as we were told the membership was non-contracted and would be month to month, we were free to quit coming if we ever chose to do so. Now, after I emailed their GM again, letting LifeTime know that I had no intention of coming back through their doors, these folks have the audacity to send me collection notices claiming I owe them money and they intend to *try* and collect. I will let anyone reading this know that, at the most, it was mid-month of a pre-paid month that I let them know I would not be back. Do not get suckered in to their no contract/month to month policy. They are full of it, do not care about customer service and most importantly for me as a parent, they do not care in the least bit about the well being of your child while in their care. There are way too many gyms to choose from to pick one that believes because they are a massive chain they can try and bully you into paying money you clearly do not owe. Utterly disappointed in LifeTime and the way they have treated this situation. Please, if you read this and are planning to join a gym, look elsewhere.
