First visit - clean facility and spacious gyms with a lot of equipment. Open air rooms perfect during this pandemic time. Large lockers and two swimming pool (inside and outside) options. Theres a track outside and inside basketball court. Looking forward to using the facility and participating in workout classes.
Best customer service out of any YMCA. Isaiah and Tom are the the greatest! Ben a member here for years but after being absent with battling cancer for a few years...they had me and my husband signed back up in no time! They definitely make you feel like family is greeting you. Cant say enough! Thank you for making the word a better place Isaiah and Tom. Your kindness and laughter is what we all need.💚💛💙❤
Look elsewhere for swim lessonsWeve now completed two swim lessons with this Y, the first one was great and our toddler responded very well to the instructor. We thus signed him up for the next class and boy what a complete disaster that class was. The instructor was TERRIBLE. She had literally zero control over the kids and let them walk all over her, the classes were a complete waste of time and money. Both our kids as well as the others in the class were let loose to simply mess around and not really learning much. We had three instances where that instructor wasnt there and those classes were great, so common sense would dictate that the instructor was the common issue.I brought this up to the director of aquatics and she got VERY defensive and pretty much brushed it off as if it was completely normal. Her suggestion was to sign up for another class and try it again, she recommended a particular instructor. I was very hesitant, and really didnt appreciate the tone or general attitude she had about the situation but swallowed my pride for the benefit of the kiddo and decided to give it another shot after talking it over with my significant other. I reach out back to the directory and tell her were going to move forward, and of course, now the class isnt available anymore, mind you, this wasnt even 24 hours after talking to her and she pretty much says there is nothing she can do. I asked to be called by someone higher up but havent heard anything from them.So we had an issue, bring it up to them, they brush it off and offer a mediocre suggestion which isnt even possible, so yeah, save your time and money and go elsewhere.
So far so good! My family purchased a membership about 3 weeks ago and I must say that Its great to see the consistency and the continued practice of Covid guidelines. Theres cleaning solution and towels at every station when working out and all throughout the facility. Seeing the friendly faces and someone always ready to assist you are a plus too.
I’m a London 2012 Paralympic Games Champion from Ukraine 🇺🇦 and in my whole carrier, I have never been asked to leave the pool after 15 minutes of swim.Ive been swimming in hundreds of pools in the world and that never happened to me before.I reserved a shared lane spot for 9:30 today(in the outdoor pool)I came to the pool a bit late …I was rushing to bring all of my equipment to the lane to start my practice. There was no spot for me. Someone took my spot. I asked one of 3 lifeguards if I should wait till 10 am to start my practice or I should jump in the single lane. They asked me to wait to find out who took my spot … it was already 9:44… when they finally found out it was one lady who didn’t finish her swimming at 9:30 and she decided to swim until she would be stoped… finally I started my practice. Other two swimmers were still practicing too.At 10:05 (15 minutes of my swim) one of the lifeguards came to me and I was asked to leave the pool because my time was out. All other swimmers where still in the pool and they were not asked to leave.I noticed that I was the only one they would ask so…they heard my Ukrainian accent and saw my Ukrainian swimming team swim cap. I believe that it was easier for them to remove the foreign person for their next visitor who was waiting for her spot. No other swimmers were asked who were already in the pool when I came. I found out in the locker room that the another lady from my lane was also practicing more time than it was allowed but they never asked her to leave.I feel mistreated. I was very upset because I knew why I was the only one who would have to leave the pool… all lifeguards there saw me waiting for my spot and they knew I was there practicing for only a few minutes.
I like everything about the people and the facility. I take issue with the hours! Mornings do not work for me and by the time my kids are asleep you are closed at 8pm. What gym closes at 8pm? Please consider extending your hours
Have a membership here. My time there has always been pleasant. Im not sure how busy it gets, but it was good at my times.
Joined the ymca for the pool and was told the pool was open until 7:30. Just got kicked out at 5:00pm because they’re using the outdoor pool for swim lessons. They kicked 30 people out for 5 people to use a quarter of the pool. Not worth $120 a month
This is probably the BEST YMCA facility in Charlotte. The social distancing was perfect. There are plenty of sanitizing stations also.
We came back to the Y world last week after taking a few years off. Glad to say that cleanliness and superb customer service is still here! Support the Family Y!
YMCA is back open so please support your local YMCA! My son & I go here several times a week to work out & generally feel safe. The place is clean & well run. In the age of Covid, they do a good job with enforcing masks, social distancing, and also provide outside area to workout without masks. I do see a few yahoos who wear mask and never cover their nose (so why bother!!??) and wish YMCA would ask these folks to pull it up, but in general they will enforce the mask rule. Equipment generally new & in good working order. My fave YMCA is DOWD, but I go here as it is much closer & has everything I need.
We use the outdoor pool regularly all summer and love it!
Great inside track. Beats walking in the outside heat.
We joined the Y for the pool this summer. It is so well run, clean, friendly and well staffed with attentive lifeguards.
I took the Cycle class with instructor Tamika and it was Great I wish she taught more classes there
Brace is a very good YMCA. They actually answer the phone and take your concerns personal. Love them
It has good supplies to clean. It just gets really crowded sometimes
Love this place! Everyone is very friendly and helpful!!
Canceled my membership immediately. I will not be forced to wear a mask when there is a risk of hypoxia and fainting. Its torture to expect us to run on a treadmill and lift weights while suffocating.
The kind lady and nice gentleman who greeted me were settling and helped me to find the right way to my destination and could not have been and better or kinder or more professional and I deeply appreciate their assistance.
Great morning at Brace. Lifted weights and then took the cycle class on the pool deck.
Great first class back at the y-plan to keep going
Great location and great overall!!
Great job by the staff with giving full orientation and explaining all the ins and outs of the current situation. Dont forget to check out when you leave so theres an accurate head count inside. Great to be back at the Y!!
Had a very good experience with my kids soccer program over the past years but bad experience with swim classes in the past years but not recently because of corona we did not go there for more than a year and half.
Heathers cycle class was excellent! Great workout!
Awesome.place, best water park for kids and adults!!!
Great - reactivate my membership!
Amazing atmosphere!
Great outdoor pool for the kids!
Great friendly staff! Plenty of programs for everyone. Patrons are so friendly and helpful and social. The social aspect is a big part of the experience, I made lots of new gym friends. There is plenty of equipment, but you need to plan your visit as it is busy at certain times.A great place for retired folks to use. I am over 80 years, and still moving!
Awesome place to work out
Nickels worth of free advice. When you make clients wear a mask, then you lose patrons. Took me one day to leave. No one wants to wear a mask lifting weights or running. Ridiculous.
Awesome staff!
Very nice facility.
👏 Love this place!👏 Good big facility! You can get everything you want here.👏 Great place to go for the whole family!👏 The staff is helpful. But some is not friendly🤡 Swimming pool indoor is very busy so came between 11:30-2:00🤡Parking was tight.A short video attached. Thanks!
Awesome place friendly staff!
Love this gym! New equipment, everything you could possibly need. I love that I can watch Netflix on treadmills/ellipticals while working out. Employees are doing a great job keeping the equipment clean and maintaining social distance during Covid pandemic right now (Oct 2020).
Poorly managed. a lot of staff jus standing around adding no value and a lot of cost. An org that has lost its way.
Tons of field space and a outdoor dirt track to run!
Im at YMCA locations all around Charlotte. I really like that the functional fitness area is available for me to use every time Im there. This location has a heavy bag, but I dont think it has a speed bag, for those who like to train on that type of equipment. I kind of wish there was a speed bag platform, but I can understand why there isnt one.The staff here are super friendly, and the equipment is generally well taken care of. I regularly see cleaning staff doing their thing on the fitness floor, in the bathrooms, the hallways, etc. Its a gym, so I am glad to see people regularly attending to its upkeep. They use disinfectant wipe stations all around the fitness floor for members to wipe down their equipment, and I almost never find these empty. To me, this is a sensible improvement over the conventional paper towel and spray method.
Nice facility. Good programs. They are very slow to fix torn benches in the weight rooms. Even with the membership discount, their summer camps can still be a bit pricey for what you get compared to other local summer camps. Overall good experience.
Our family has been going here for years and we love to work out here. The children are in groups and also involved in basketball. The track outside is huge and a great place to walk. The equipment is clean and well maintained.
Im one of the old-timers at this place. I only use the workout area, and its great! It has all the equipment needed for a great workout!
Overall the facility is very nice, and also well cleaned which is awesome. The front desk staff are usually pretty nice and friendly. The gym staff on the other hand are very unhelpful and dont seem to care much about anything. Usually you can find the male and female staff just talking to each other at their little desks all day. Rarely do they ever even acknowledged the clientele here.
Amazing as always
Was racially profiled by a gentleman named Tom who worked there. I entered the facility in hopes of gaining my membership back for the week I am home for spring break. I asked Tom if I could pay today and start it back for the week and he said “yes” but their computer system was down so I could not at the moment pay. I then asked since my original membership is just on hold if I was able to use the gym today. Tom then said “unfortunately not” with a rude tone. This has never happened to me before at the YMCA but I felt as if I should warn other individuals of color about this kind of behavior!
Love this y. Staff is always friendly and helpful and large class selection (although it recently changed and my favorite yoga class isnt the same...) but very nice facility
Ive been a member for over a year and have used the facility 3+ times every week. Every staff member that Ive encountered has been extremely nice. The outside summer pool is amazing for children. The exercise equipment is great. Childcare (which I use religiously) is PHENOMENAL. We just started swim lessons and our experience has been perfect. I cant say enough about this facility and the way weve been treated. Thank you! Worth every penny.
I have been a member for about 6 years and like the friendly atmosphere and yet unobtrusiveness of the staff. There is a constant attempt to renew the equipment. Most of all I love the cleanliness of the place.
Nothing but good things to say. Staff is warm and friendly and it’s great that there is such a fine facility. 5 stars.
Nicer now with the remodel that was recently done. The equipment is not kept very clean and many times the trash cans are over flowing especially in the bathrooms. Staff is friendly, But they need to have a higher level of cleanliness.
I hate to give 1 star but i have to the way i been treated by Tom i been to this location since 2000 and i’m loyal customer since it was siskey but Tom was rude and he doesn’t know how to talk to people or he’s mistaken me with young youth who comes there and try get in for free. bottom story yes my membership expired 1/22/2020 but i had situation and i told him i will renew on Mondays till i get my temporary debit card the way he talked to me unpleasant and he need to learn how to talk politely with grown people
Everyone was very nice and helpful.
Ever been to a place that is both quite and also wicked loud? This place fits the bill. Go inside and you smell chlorine and that distinct gym smell, I guess there isnt much you can do about it but its a bit weird. But on the other side of the coin for the price of one membership you get a lot of stuff from a full gym two pools one indoor and another outdoor in addition to more soccer fields than I can count. There is probably more but thats just the tip of the iceberg.
Very friendly employees but for me, the buildings are way too big, loud, and intimidating. I didn’t feel it was the right environment for me. I like to workout alone and not socialize, and I always felt like someone wanted to stop and chat with me and I could never really workout without these distractions.
Great selection of equipment, sauna, steam room, basketball, pools! Clean, nice staff, great childcare rooms.
Only visited the outdoor water park but enjoyed it. Bathrooms very nice and clean.
We come here for our sons swim lessons. After or before we always enjoy a great family swim too!
Great spinning class and the indoor and outdoor pool are great. We also like the daycare. Or soon is always really happy when we pick him up
It’s the best gym I have ever joined. Professional staff, fancy clean beautiful facility.
Great classes. Convenient location.
Great Y. The childcare center is amazing- especially Ms. Liza!! Everyone is always friendly and there is always enough room in all spaces for everyone. Can’t wait for the new renovations!
Outside yoga has been really pleasant.
They cater to people in the swim classes I have been in the pool with @30 other people and we were forced into one lane many times so the others could have 3 lanes for 12 people how fair is that when we pay our fees just as well. They need to restructure the classes limit how many per class so everybody else can enjoy swimming as well. The instructors are rude to the elderly as well there has been many times I sat back and watched and listened to how some have been talked to and treated they just end up leaving. There is a very small window time frame each day in between swim classes for people that want to swim in comfort with out being moved around to cater to others!!! A very crowded pool,,,, people can not enjoy themselves!!! I havent been in a long time because of all of the issues I have spoke about Im going to try and start back up again and see how it goes HOPEFULLY things have gotten better☺
Best school out there
The front desk has never been helpful. I have not been there yet so I gave it a two. However the reason I never even checked it out was because of the customer service.I called (being new to the area) to get info on swim lessons. The woman had no excitement at all to have even picked up the phone. I could tell no matter how many questions I had she was not going to try to help me. She lost my business immediately as a swim lesson customer and a possible future member.I ended up going with Aqua-Tots. They were wonderful on the phone and explained every detail a parent would need.
Love the new setup, offered classes and the new look from the renovation. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Absolutely love the sauna and locker rooms.
This is a great gym I go there weekly and it is very nice
Huge complex, lots of different workout areas. Outdoor fitness area, multiple classes. Very clean and organized as well
Love this gym! Anything and everything you need or want can be found here.
Lots of things to do. Membership based on income. Outdoor pool is fantastic for all ages.
One of the busier YMCAs in Charlotte, but theres a lot of space and a lot to offer.
Is was our first time . It was very niceMes Donna. Best swim teacher !!!! My son and daughter love her!!
Nice gym, track, and pool. Only complaint is that the outdoor pool needs more umbrellas or shaded areas in general.
I go there all the time and have never had a bad experience. Its a good option for a gym if you dont might that its not open at night.👍
Love this Y. So many things to do here and they have lots of kid activities. More people should join this YMCA
Its nice but almost too nice to get a good workout. Its too inviting to kids and people who just get in the way.
9:15 is an awkward time for classes to start they really need to change it back to 9:30!! You get to class it’s either already started or it’s full! Now I must rush to get to gym just to have a good workout!! I litterally just walked out of a yoga class cause it was already full.
A Young Mans Christian Association? More like a socialist association They base your membership fees on your yearly income. So if member A is worth 5 million and only works part time, and member B is in debt but works 80 hours a week to get ahead..member B pays more. How is that fair? Obviously the owner/committee that came up with that policy voted for Bernie Sanders. Not to mention Im not turning over my personal tax info which is required. Im not sure if you heard identity theft is at an all time high. Its bad enough they dont want you to pay upfront but rather like most gyms, they want your checking account info for auto debit so its hard to leave.Lastly, they now charge $20 guest fee!? Doesnt sound too Christian to me.
Super friendly staff and lots of fitness options
Everyone there is so friendly its like a big family
Great gym. New equipment. Great weightlifting room as well, which you dont find all that often at YMCAs these days.
Fantastic gym! The employees are always welcoming with a smile on their face!
Enjoy going to the YMCA very friendly staffs
One of the best YMCAs in Charlotte. Clean, friendly, inviting. They have everything youll need (indoor pool, outdoor pool, steam room, sauna, weight room, functional fitness room, cardio, spinning, yoga, pilates, etc.)
My family has been using the Matthews YMCA for 18 years. Always have a good experience.
Like every YMCA this facility has every thing you need for good health. Very nice place . I love it.
Great equipment & super friendly staff!
Smoothy was ok, but the attention could be better
My son and I love love love this place! The staff is great, respectful, helpful and very professional. I highly recommend it!
Newly updated and REALLY nice. Great fitness center, and excellent indoor and outdoor pools.
Siskey Ymca is not very friendly towards retired people. The YMCA refused to accept Silver Sneakers which is offered by supplemental healthcare insurance and allows the retiree to work out without having to pay additional membership fees. Fortunate that other fitness centers are more considerate in our area.
Used to be great a few years ago but not anymore. The womens sauna, steam room and showers are disgusting and in disrepair for the past 5 years. With mold, missing tiles, and loose wood planks, these spaces are a health hazard and an accident waiting to happen. Unfortunately, nothing has been done to improve them despite complaints. The afternoon pool hours are increasingly catered to swim lessons through which the Y earns income, leaving very little space for regular paying members who would like to swim laps.Disappointing.
The worst, terrible experience. I got injured taking swim lessons there and the entire staff couldnt care less and only covered for each other rather than doing the right thing and admitting they and especially, the swim instructor, Amanda, were at fault. They were inexperienced and rude. That is not the Christian way nor is it professional. Please be careful, especially with these swim instructors. Amanda is not even a good swimmer. She taught the course fully dressed and not in the pool. How do you teach a swim course like that? She is very naive and unprofessional. Buyer beware. I have kids and would be afraid if they were being taught by this group. Morgan or Amanda did not even apologize, rather they tried to ignore me or help in any way. Very pathetic service and for this place to be advertising swim lessons is appalling.
We are amazed at how beautiful this Y is! Staff is very professional and kind! Couldn’t be happier this is now our family Y!
Nice facility, Friendly people,Excellent staff & services.
Wonderful family oriented with Christian values Gym :) a total blessing to be part of. Friendly staff, lots of entertainment for the kids and adults as well. Thank you Jesus.
