Ive known Randy & Robert since the early 1970s. Had my 67 bus motor rebuilt there. Sold my bus in the early 80s, but kept the motor, and installed it in my 68 beetle. I installed new heads at approximately 100k after losing a valve seat ... sold the beetle in the late 80s with 175k miles on the lower end.Randy rebuilt the transaxle for my SWB Porsche 911 back in the 80s, still running strong 40 years later.Recently had the tired 1.9L motor from my 84 Vanagon Westfalia rebuilt there. Original miles were about 170k and it sucked a valve. Randy recommended building it up to a 2.1L, and what a difference that made. They also installed a Go-Westy lift kit, and replaced all fuel & vacuum hoses at that time. They conduct such a great business that there IS a waiting list, but its worth the wait if you have the time.
Always great service! Auto-Meister has kept my van running perfect for years. I highly recommend them.
Masters of westy diagnosis and repair.
Best place to have your car serviced. Customer service is great
Randy and his team are the best in town! They are reliable, and can fix anything. They have built motors for me, and helped me maintain my 1969 and 1965 Karmann Ghia. Theres not a lot of good mechanics around.. Randy is the best, hands down!
Ive been to several shops around town and how good they are depends on their current mechanics. The quality is hit and miss at those other places depending on who is working on your car. The stability of Randy and Robert make this place work because you know that you are going to get the job done right.
I dont understand all of the good reviews for this place. Maybe things have changed since my dad took his old Porsche 356 there, but they really butchered the clutch assembly (as I am now finding out because it failed) and they could never get the carbs or brakes to work properly. I wouldnt take my Schwinn there.
Vanagon and Westfalia owners would be well advised to seek out the knowledge and experience of this shop. An array of westys and buses told me I was in the right place to get my 84 Westfalia repaired, but I imagine any air cooled vintage VW or Porsche would be at home in this shop, even saw an old dune buggy & an MK1 GTI in the lot.
Im from New Hampshire and found my self in the LA area with an over heating 1987 vanagon. While trying to find a shop I stumbled across Auto-Meister and let me tell you I couldnt have been luckier. Although there was a wait to get my van in (about 2 weeks) it was worth every second. Randy is very honest and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the old VW systems. I would drive across the country again just to have him service my van. Great conversation too very down to earth, and willing to take the time to explain everything that he did. Couldnt be more grateful.
Just got my 77 super beetle back from them and she is running great and feel soooo good!! Thank you Randy and Robert!!! Glad that I found them not too far from where I live ;).
They know VW
Quality work and did a superior job on my 1974 bug
Honest and reliable air-cooled service. I havent found any other shops like it in the greater LA area.
