It’s great to give students the opportunity to practice and provide discounted services while earning their certificate! However, the instructors feel more like security guards than helpful supporters, as they silently scrutinize your head, expressionless. If they have any real-time feedback on your student’s performance, you probably won’t know it. A business analyst might nick them for a slight lack of professionalism and organization. All said, it’s a discount service and you’re helping students. The good news: you get no less than you pay for.
Was a student at this school for about 2 months. The teachers rarely want to teach. They pressure students to drop out. I would not reccomend anyone applying for this school. If i could give zero stars i would. There was one teacher i actually felt like wanted me to succeed and she was only there a few days out of the week. But over all this place is ran unprofessionally and will tell you when you report said actions well i didnt sew that happen so its a no for me. Thanks for putting me through hell for that 2 months . and the teachers mostly sit around talking to each other and folding towels. They shouldnt be in a teaching carrer if thats what they wanted to do.
Had an amazing facial here! The student did was friendly and did a great job. It felt like a professional spa. I will definitely be back!
First time going it was very fun and got a perm Id Id definitely go back!
If your black don’t waste your time, they don’t even teach you how to manage black hair or 4c hair . Hated this school whole time I was there !!!
If I could give less than a one star I would. My best friend is getting married in 10 days. She asked for blonde highlights and they absolutely butchered her hair last night. Do NOT go here. When it was nearing the end of her appointment, they took her payment and didnt even dry her hair! She left the Salon with WET hair... (Who would want to dry their product when it looks like this) Also, isnt there suppose to be a professional checking the students products??? This soon to be bride had to sit in a PROFESSIONAL Stylists chair last night until 11 PM getting this fixed. The Professional stylist said this was the worst she has ever seen. UNbelievable!!!!
I just went in today to get a basic facial and a manicure. I understand that going to the schools are cheaper for a reason, but I enjoy giving students a chance to practice on real people and better their skills.I had my facial done (by Grace) who did a great job and was very friendly.Unfortunately, my manicure was done by someone else and not done well at all. While she was applying the polish, she missed spots on the nail which made them look terrible (streaky and polish on skin). After applying top coat, she let them sit to dry for a while and then came over after a few minutes and told me that they were dry. They were far from dry. I had to get my keys and wallet from my pocket before leaving and all of the polish started smearing all over the place and made a mess of my pocket (I was under the assumption that they were dry). Now I am stuck removing all the polish that she just put on to redo it myself. They have teachers/instructors all over the place but not once did one stop by and see how things were going and to make sure the students were doing stuff correctly.Overall, the facial was good and the manicure was just disappointing. I would recommend playing $5-10 more and getting a manicure elsewhere.
Such great staff. Covid precautions amazing
The instructors really care about their students. If youre looking to get into the beauty industry, Id recommend this place for school.
Reesie was amazing. She took her time on my perm and my haircut. Im a pleased customer
I loved getting my hair cut and styled at Academy of Beauty Professionals: Madison! I went in to get 16 inches cut off for donation. They did an excellent job, and were careful to follow the specifications to make sure the hair could be used as a donation. My favorite part about going here is getting my hair washed before its cut and the low prices that include the wash, cut, and style! The student staff was very knowledgeable and all students were overseen by an instructor, so I knew that I was getting a decent hair cut, even though it is a learning environment.
I was very happy with my visit yesterday. Due to the poor condition and the current color of my hair they were not able to do what I originally had in mind. But, after consulting with the stylist and two of the instructors they were able to come up with a result I was very happy with. They took the time to look at the condition of my hair, listened to my concerns, and understood the result I was looking for. The student stylist did an excellent job with the highlights she put in, and the hair cut she gave me. Yes, I was there for a couple of hours, but I knew going it it would be longer than in a regular salon. It was a great first experience at the school salon and I will definitely be going back!!
Ive worked at the Academy of Beauty Professionals for about a year and a half now and I am so thankful for the opportunities this job has given me. From the staff to the students, everyone has been a pleasure to work with. There is something to be said about working for a family business - I truly enjoy coming to work every day! The owner and his family have been nothing short of amazing to work with. They have many years of experience in this industry and its been an honor to learn from them. Definitely recommend ABP - whether youre stopping in for services, enrolling as a student, or applying for a job!
I had a great experience here! The students were knowledgeable and the environment was very laid back. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good service at an affordable price!
I had a great experience here! The students are very professional. The instructors are knowledgeable, and you can tell they care about their students. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for salon and spa services at a great price!
I was craving a good facial, and saw this new cosmetology school had opened on Odana Road, so I decided to give them a try. They got me in right away and I was assigned to Lexi. The moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the professional staff and led to a private room. The room was clean and conducive to the facial procedure. Lexi was thorough, asked for feedback, and was very, very good! I drifted off at one point. So relaxing! The facial cost $29, before tip, and last a good hour. I will definitely be back.
My son and I went into the school this last Friday. I am well aware these are students and I accept that. HOW ever we ended up having a actual instructor or educator as she kept calling her self, because the student who was suppose to cut our hair had to leave. So this educator cut my hair and my sons. Oh my goodness. She took a hour cutting my hair, and its noticeably longer on one side than the other. I have gotten the same cut for years, and never have I had it turn out quite like this. She was suppose to leave the length on the sides just trim it up, she chopped a good inch off. My sons hair cut had a area where it was longer than the rest as well, and she took a half hour with him. I did call in too see if they could not get me back in and was told they were to busy that day.. Well they were closed the next day, and I had to go to work the next. So my option was wait until they could get me back in or even out my hair my self. SO if this is the kind of crappy job a instructor does it makes me worry about what standard they hold the students to.
I love ABP, and all the wonderful experiences it has give me from getting to work with awesome students to meeting the most wonderful of clients and having some of the best learning experts around me!! Everyday is a new Adventure and always bigger then the last... Stop in and see for yourself how wonderful of an experience it can be, while leaving with a AWESOME new summer dew..
We are so thrilled with the services we received at this beauty school! My son really wanted to get corn rows and Kim, our beautician at the Academy of Beauty Professionals, was experienced enough to do them both quickly and affordably for us. THANK YOU SO MUCH! His braids look great and we will be back again! :)
I recently added some low lights to my very blonde hair. I brought in a picture of what I wanted. Ms. Naleen guided her students in picking out a shade that was perfect for me, being very careful that my bleached hair would not over or under process the color. It turned out just like the picture and exactly like I wanted! I love the outcome! I cant wait to go back!
The Academy of Beauty Professionals provided me exceptional service. My student was top notch and listened to what I needed. The staff were well educated and you can tell they love teaching.
I have been going here for years and feel confident that they will do a great job with no worries. I live an hour away now and it is still worth driving to. I have had facials, nails done and color they do it all. There are great teachers like Ms Elaine there keeping an eye on the students.
I came here for a haircut and I loved it! The student did a great job and I liked the atmosphere. Everyone was super friendly!
Great prices for your service! Everyone was nice and knowledgeable. Highly recommend:)
I have currently been working at the Academy of Beauty Professionals in Madison for about 4 months now and I must say, I love it here! It is so cool watching each student come to school and succeed and have fun while doing it. Everyone is so friendly and supportive of each others goals. The students are amazing and the educators truly LOVE teaching! There are always new ideas we come up with to make the students get the best education possible. I would highly recommend getting your Cosmetology, Esthetician, or Nail Tech License here!
This place is very not worth schedule an appointment. They do not have good customer service. They cancel my daughter appointments and call you a couple hours before her appointment. The school lead hair stylist did ever care. Please find some where else to go. My daughter cried and cried on the phone to me. They do not see no one after a certain time and we reschedule because of that before. I got my hair color and they push my time within a couple of hours before as well. My daughter in school and really want them because she waited and waited. They should have someone on the side just in case thing like this happen. That person really did not care at all and made me very upset that the fact she did want to help us. Not to say my daughter was on the bus in the winter time trying to get there. They need to train them on customer service.
Students are talented and friendly; the Instructors are caring, as well as knowledgeable and provide guidance to those they teach. Good prices for services; I highly recommend this school.
The school has a great group of students as well as a very experienced, knowledgeable and caring staff. I highly recommend this school.
I have brought my daughter here many times, the students, teachers and prices are amazing. I like to be part of the students learning experience as well.
Great prices on facials and they are so relaxing and rejuvenating. Highly recommend.
Great staff, and super friendly students! Academy of Beauty Professionals is full of talent. I will definitely be going back.
BEST 10th BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER!! Five stars is not enough to describe my daughters birthday party experience at the Academy of Beauty Professionals on Odana Road. We had 15 girls, and the students and staff were beyond accommodating to their/our needs. Dave (the manager) worked with us to create a personalized service menu (full pedicure, and facial/hairstyle). We had a party room to ourselves to set up activities and snacks. Brynn was our go-between, and she somehow kept everything organized and flowing (I am still not sure how she did it)! The decor inside the Academy was perfect: bright, fun music playing, clean and well-maintained, such a positive atmosphere! Every girl left happy and feeling confident (and looking beautiful--and age appropriate, each in her own way). The cost was completely affordable (about the same as a Pump it Up or Rockin Jump party) for the level of service and entertainment/pampering that the girls received. The girls loved their individual stylists (we were eavesdropping on the party chatter)! I will recommend the Academy of Beauty Professionals to anyone (and now my daughters are begging to be regular customers as well ;), which is fine with me!)!--Stephanie :)
These is a horrible place for natural african american hair the beauty students dont know how to do hair.Theyre clueless about hair;terriable people. The staff costed me $12 dollars for nothing.I rated this place negative 5 stars.
Very fun! All the students seem to be having a great time which made me feel more comfortable! Also, the instructors were always right there to help!
I dont like spending lots of money on a haircut that I could have spent ten bucks on and felt better about. Also, I give students experience.
I got a balayage done the other day and could not be happier with the outcome! It is super affordable and never once did I feel like I was not going to get a salon quality outcome. Nicole was fantastic and Ms.Naleen was a wonderful guide and resource for Nicole during the entire process to ensure a fantastic outcome! It was not until the process was almost complete that I learned it was Nicole’s first balayage, but you would never know by looking at the end result! I will definitely be returning for future services and recommending them to everyone I know!
I Always had very good experience in this school, Here was where I started my Cosmetology career. The teachers and directors were always there to support me in all my doubts. I would recommend.
I never post reviews. But my experience here was so bad (Madison location), I want to spare others the frustration.I called a week ago to schedule three appointments for my daughters birthday - for $12/person, the birthday package included an updo, nail polish application, and make-up application. The lady I spoke with said they had three openings at 9:30 a.m. today. I scheduled, then told my almost 8-year-old, who was very excited. We arrived at 9:25 a.m. for our appointments. The lady at the desk said no stylists had arrived yet, but she hoped (?) they were on the way. Okay... I assumed she was just out of the loop and that the stylists would be arriving shortly. Five then 10 minutes went by. The lady (lets call her Manager Lady - ML) then got a call from a stylist. ML told me the stylist just dropped off her kids and would get to the Academy soon. No apology. It was then 9:40 a.m.At 9:50 a.m. I asked ML, politely, what was going on - why was no one there? She said, Students are students, you knoww? Life happens. They knew they had appointments today but, you know, *shrug* What? ML was supposed to be in charge and teaching the students, as evidenced later, and had no explanation and, again, offered no apology. She also didnt offer to get started on the girls hair, nails, or make-up, despite being fully capable of doing all these services (we saw her doing them later). Two stylists finally rolled in at 10 a.m. - the third stylist never showed. The stylists also didnt apologize for being late. While my daughter and her friends were getting their hair done, I got to witness more of the Academys disorganization - customers coming in but their stylist never showing up, ML rushing around trying to set things up for customers, the stylists clearly being irritated with her as she interrupted them. The actual spa services were fine - my daughter and her friends got pretty updos and nails and make-up. The stylists seemed somewhat irritated to be there, though, so I was glad when we could leave. I got this vibe that we were interrupting their Saturday. There also werent any extras for birthdays - some other reviewer mentioned a party room but they never offered us that option. When we left, I again mentioned that we had to wait over a half hour. ML again showed little concern, even when I said we would not be coming back. She said, Sorry you feel that way. I cant really control when the stylists arrive. Um...then why even bother making appointments? And NO APOLOGY. I left without tipping, which I seriously never do, and felt that I shouldnt have even paid the $36.
Awesome location and even greater staff! Really enjoyed my pedicure!
This school is nowhere near what it should be regarding academic levels. They will not give you the proper training you need in order to succeed in your career. I spent months in this school, and I can honestly tell you I learned very little for the amount I paid, and what I should have received. The first three months was all book work. When I signed up for the course I was given a pamphlet stating what my tuition money would be used for(Books, use of equipment, supplies, and a graduation kit). We got our books two weeks after the course started. Its really difficult to study for a test when you have no books or have to share one with other students. Our teacher was not at all professional nor understanding with our concern. After we got our books it was a little more manageable to study. All we did for those three months was read through our book and take tests. We did some lessons which included learning how to wax and give a basic facial. That was it! There was no extensive training or information that we got. We never were trained on micro-dermabrasion, LED light therapy, or chemical peels. We only got the very basic training, and we were forced in only learning about the wellness/relaxing part of Esthetics because thats all our teacher knew. There is so much more to Esthetics than that. For the rest of the three months when we would service clients. Huge nightmare. We sat and watched youtube for most of those three months. They never marketed the Esthetic program, people didnt even know that we did facials or full body waxing. Half of the time we couldnt perform services or give the right treatment due to the fact we didnt have certain products. They also did not prepare the treatment rooms well enough for several students. We had one towel warmer and 4 treatment rooms that had to be shared with 7 students. Eventually we got a couple towel warmers and facial steamers a month before graduation. Again very basic material, and it should have been given to us much earlier in the program. Our teacher played favorites and divided us by race. It put a lot of tension between our group. When anyone had a concern we would go to the President of the school. He would listen to us, tell us that he intends to do something about it, and he will keep us updated. That never happened. To me it felt like he would just promise things just to get us to stop asking about it. My tuition money was suppose to pay for the kit, supplies, ect. and unfortunately that money was never used for anything more than books. I have graduated and started a career. I still have not received a graduation kit as most students do from other schools. I paid for it with my tuition. Even after sending countless emails to the President of the school, and providing proof that my tuition money was used to pay for a kit, still nothing has been done. I am frustrated that I have had to put up with so much crap from this school. Being there was one of the worst times of my life. On top of the other problems I was also breaking out in full body hives during my time at the school and constantly felt sick to my stomach. It didnt go away until after I graduated and was out of the building for more than 2 weeks. A lot of students were having some type of reaction to the school building. Something in the building is causing allergic reactions in students. Also they did not take proper disinfectant and sanitation seriously when I was there. It is a sorry excuse for a school and it will not help in advancing your career. There are plenty of other schools that will accommodate you much better and are worth your money. This school is a joke and I regret ever coming here.
A very low-quality building where there are no administrative rules in place. Sorry to see that this place is going to be bankrupt soon.
I loved their services.
