I have very good and disappointing things to say. If you are considering using Monona Terrace (MT) for a wedding reception, the facility itself is terrific and the setting on the lake is beautiful. The food was delicious and all our requests for set up were done properly and on time.We did not wish our guests to have to reach into their wallets, so we were adamant that no tip jars be placed at the bar as we were already paying a very generous gratuity. In fact, MT management agreed to No Tip Jars as a bullet item in our contract. Still the tips jars appeared at some point during the night. When informed MT management simply sent us a string of very poor excuses. Thus, the facility is terrific but you cannot count on MT management to abide by their contracts.
A great place to relax on your lunch break, visit at sundown or to boat watch. Plenty of space for children to run out their energy. Definitely check out the Otis Redding plaque that talks about the airplane crash. This place offers a great view of the Wisconsin State Capitol building. Also an ideal place to watch 4th of July fireworks that are set off from communities surrounding Lake Monona.
This event was so heart touching to see the work that the students from different schools in the communities worked so hard to build a replica of what they felt was in Madison. I brought my daughter here and she had the opportunity to build her own building. All the kids who attended had the opportunity to build a school or a restaurant etc. the kids were able to use their own imagination.I felt good about this and I would definitely be taking my daughter again.
A wonderful Madison venue for live music and dancing, enjoying the outdoors. Not quite as tranquil as the Union Terrace and not open every day....however worth watching for events and checking out.
We went to the art fair off of the square. Beautiful art. Pretty expensive but worth the money if you can afford it. Beautiful day on Sunday.
So beautiful. But there are like 1,000 spiders. Im terrified to touch the railings, go through doorways, or use the bathrooms.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed it many years before its been built. Great view to a beautiful Lake Monona! Two story conference rooms w/ escalators to lower big exhibition hall. Its a great place to host an event or conference in winters. Its connected to Hilton Hotel and Madison Club restaurant, close to Wisconsin State Government Capitol dome and Madison City Hall, as well as Court house. In the summer the roof top garden hosts weekly outdoor pop concert and popular dance concert serving beer cash bar.The beautiful pattern carpet can be cleaner tho.
What an awesome location and resource. We were here for a convention, and felt very well taken care of the entire time.Parking is extremely simple and convenient. The food is delicious. The waiters and staff in general are polite and very helpful. The facilities were gorgeous and very well equipped.Everything from start to finish was great, and we cant wait to come back.*Update- back a second year and even more impressed not that I was able to observe the architecture and desire and appreciate it more. The most intentionally designed public space Ive ever been to.
Beautifu, nice weather on the roof top
Beautiful. A great place for dancing and dinner.
While out on an 8 mile walkabout.. I meandered through Monona Terrace. F. Lloyd Wright inspired and inspirational and beautiful vistas in EVERY direction. Now imagine when they reopen all the amenities and it is fully functional.Yeah, probably too busy.On a deserted Sunday Morning, it was wonderful.
Was very happy with how they managed attendance flow, minimizing exposure between groups
Great place to walk at night!
The Dane dances are great!
Very nice place. Our family company was nominated for the Wisconsin Family Business of The Year Award and the ceremony took place here. Parking was around $5 for about 4 hours. The main hall has a beautiful view over looking the lake, while the opposite side of the building has an amazing view of the capital. The hall itself was big and clean and the conference room we sat in was the same. The food was decent as well, not 5 star but the desert was really good. Overall Id recommend renting a hall here for weddings or a business conference.
I decided to book Monona Terrace for our wedding back in August of 2019 and I think it was one of the best decisions Ive ever made.We decided to attend Dane Dances as a Rehearsal Celebration (in lieu of a rehearsal dinner) the night before. It was the first Ive ever been to but so well organized, SO much fun, and the food and drinks were great too! Everyone who attended with us had such a blast and still speak highly of it!Throughout our engagement, we worked with Micayla Zapata who was one of my favorite people Ive had the pleasure of working with for the wedding. She kept us calm, reassured and most importantly, SANE! :) She really knows her stuff, and never once made us feel bad for asking questions, no matter how small. She was very quick to respond to my calls or emails, and always had a plan. She was super informative and kept us on track with everything. On the day of the wedding, she was there with us right up until we no longer had to worry about a timeline! She made sure we were where we needed to be at all the right times and she would talk us through the next event. As a bride (and groom) it was pretty hard to remember the order of events because youre on cloud 9 the entire time and theres SO much going on around you, but she did a PHENOMENAL job making sure everything went smoothly and I could never find the best way to thank her for everything. If youre thinking about booking Monona Terrace for your event, I couldnt recommend it more. Its a breath taking venue, the ENTIRE STAFF was absolutely amazing and kind (shout out to the bar manager, Mark!), and they work with you to find what works in your budget.Ill admit, getting the packets with the information about food, drinks, packages, etc was incredibly overwhelming, but my best advice is literally you do not even need to worry about it until 3 months beforehand, when one of the event planners meets with you. Set yourself a budget, and go from there. IT WILL WORK OUT!
You have to time the weather and your mood right - bad weather (or even really hot and muggy weather) could ruin the experience, and you order and pick up your own food so dont expect table service. But the food was quite good, the drinks were fairly priced, and the views are fantastic. If you are looking for relaxed open-air dining on the lake, its hard to beat.
Convenient on site parking...Spacious area to conduct Dane County Presidential vote recount..
An ode to concrete and to Wrights ego. It could have been a beautiful landscape park with the road hidden below. So much for Wrights communing with nature - not much greenery to be had except a few sad trees in concrete containers. At least the roof doesnt leak on this one. The cult of personality wins out again...
Lovely views. Spacious rooms. Good food.
Beautiful location, with an epic view of the lake.Have been here when they had a wedding. Must have been a beautiful location for this- ballrooms look very elegant. Honestly though, that view of the lake. Windows overlooking are huge and allowing for great lounging. All is top notch with very close/attached parking ramp which allows for shelter in the event of bad weather.
Wonderful place to have an event. Right on the water with a beautiful view of Lake Monona. Clean. Courteous and friendly staff. Food is good.
This facility is always great. The Winter Art Fair Off the Square was very nice. Our 4 year old daughter loved being able to shop for art, no adults allowed, in the kid area. Shes very proud and happy with her first ever art purchase!
Nice view
My favorite venue in the state. Every year Ive attended and been a part of the glassblowing tradeshows hosted there its been wonderful. The architecture and views inside and around the building are great. The atmosphere is very professional and friendly. Location on the lake is pristine.
Building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright with various event spaces and wonderful lake views.
Place is beautiful the particular even not so much a lot of vendors that had nothing to do with the theme (building remodeling and landscaping) for an example. Womens make up? What how... Why... But the building is amazing with an amazing view
A place to watch the beautiful views Id the lake. We spent many summer evenings on the terrace watching the lake . My only con is the food options that are available there. Wish they had more options and hygienic. This problem was solved by taking food from near by restaurants.
We were here for a work function for my wifes company. It was an excellent venue for holding such a function. It also has a wonderful view of the water which adds to the whole experience.
Excellent tour. The guide provided the background on all aspects of the Convention Center coming to fruition. Stunning structure. The landscaping and plant selection is incredibly varied and suits the structure beautifully. Loved grasses used at pedestrian/bike path waving with the breeze.
Amazing really beautiful views attended builders home show. Convenient to the Hilton dont even have to walk out in the cold to get there and hotel has hot tub!
A particularly good view from our tile... 😊 Monona Terrace is a pretty good convention center, banquet hall or general gathering place. The rooftop is superb in the summer, great views of Lake Monona and the Capitol. And no, its not perfectly aligned, check it out from behine the fountain. Frank is rolling in his grave, but at least the damn thing finally got built. John Nolen bike bath goes along in front and is a superb way to arrive and avoid traffic and parking. Cant say much about the Cafe, its serviceable. Special events are fun, Concerts on the Rooftop, Dane Dances, etc. Stop by!
Visited this place in a full moon! If you want to enjoy a magnificent full moon over the lake this is the exact view you want to have, bonus with a peek of the Capitol building.
Take the TourI had a guest from Portugal who is a fan of Frank Lloyd Weight, so we booked the tour. The staff was ready to offer a translator, but it wasnt necessary. The guide took us throughout the building pointing out elements I would have missed. This is an active convention center, so we werent able to get in to every room. The gift shop is great.
First class venue. Ive both worked here and attended events as guest here. The catering manager Mark is the kindest person youll ever meet and runs a tight ship. Beautiful views out their tall windows overlooking Lake Monona
We held our wedding reception at Monona Terrace on October 28, 2017, and are very pleased with how our event turned out, as well as with all the planning leading up to it. At the outset, Breanne was helpful and no-pressure as we considered potential venues. Once we chose Monona Terrace, Marcia and her staff provided clear guidance and answered all our questions along the way. We particularly enjoyed the tasting where you get to sample all the food offerings to make your selections! Matt was very helpful finalizing all details the week of, and the night itself came off without a hitch. The service staff was attentive and friendly (they even set aside a few of each appetizer for us at the head table, a nice touch), the food was delicious (a common compliment from our guests), the room set-up was flawless, and things just ran very smoothly. Would definitely recommend!
I loved it. It was so relaxing and Im looking forward to going again.
Nice place, didnt realize it was Frank Lloyd Wrights design. Have driven thru tunnel many times not knowing about the Terrace and the view of the lake. Also access to downtown and Capital building just a couple of blocks. Wonderful conference rooms and party location for a local need of meetings, conferences, or weddings!! Nice photos about Mr. Wright and some of his designed furniture on display. Check it out when you get a chance!!
We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Monona Terrace last weekend. First, it all started with our awesome tour with Breanne and we were hooked! Breanne showed us around answering all the questions we had that day to make us feel like we were making a great decision to have it at the terrace. Our big day was everything and more that we could have ever wanted at the Monona Terrace. We were very surprised by how often the staff came by to ask us if we needed anything and how everything was. That was a very nice touch. We didnt have to worry about anything not being on time and fully trusted Monona Terrace. Micayla was AMAZING and a rock star. There arent enough words to explain how helpful she was and how relaxed/at ease she was on Saturday which made me feel at ease. Micayla always answered my (many) emails right away and was thorough in her responses. Every time I asked her if I could do something, she always found a way to make it work. The food was amazing and we got nothing but compliments about the chicken and pork dishes - and the apps. We will definitely recommend the Monona Terrace in a heartbeat!
Very cool building. Tour had good info but seemed a bit slow (1 1/2 hrs) and not sure Id recommend since there is a $5 charge. Tour showed Madison hall of fame room but all other spots we could explore without tour.
We had a meeting here. Facilities are hard to beat and the view is terrific. They catered breakfast and had a nice spread of fruit, eggs, baked goods. Food quality was fair. Would recommend for events and meetings And the location near downtown is helpful. Parking is ample and underground. Very close to the Hilton downtown.
Very spacious with a lot of different conference rooms. Beautiful scenario as the lake crashes into the terrace. Could use a bit more parking, but thats to be expected in downtown Madison.
Great helpful technical and sales staff. Awesome views, convenient parking, good food. Overall, Not inexpensive but quality experience
Perfect wedding day! The food was hot and delicious for each guest. The staff was accommodating and present when needed! The view is phenomenal from the grand terrace and everything flowed smoothly.
Frank Lloyd Wright on Lake Monona. Fantastic gift shop. Really good food on the terrace in the warm months. A wonderful Madison experience.
Its honestly like my favorite conference space, catering is excellent. Its not hard to get to via bike, bus or car. Also its a beautiful space. Theres a bike elevator on the north east side for folks coming from the bike path who need to get on the square.
It was overall a pretty place. I couldnt get up to the top floor though, maybe because it was winter. I did not see any signs saying it was closed though, hence 4/5 stars.
Friendly staff. Lakeside venue right downtown is beautiful and convenient. The building is full of gorgeous photography which helps as you have to endlessly search for your room. Take an elevator, walk down two halls toward the back, then an escalator (there are several so be vigilant). The sign for the Dane room says go left but thats the back door its pointing to and really you should go right. Frank Loyd Wright designed the place but its a maze for human beings to navigate. The rooms are pleasant but some are without windows. Those that have windows have entire walls of glass that start as a beautiful view but quickly blinds you since they only have curtains (vertical) and not blinds (horizontal) so you end up drawing them closed. The food is not great. Thick scones or egg muffins drowning in cheese and sausage may not be the best way to start the day.Cold deli wraps are not appetizing and the vegetarian options are just salads or wraps without the meat. Kettle chips and dip as the standard snack. Hummus and veggies were a godsend by the second day. I recommend you eat out unless absolutely necessary. All in all its an ok experience if you learn the building, eat out, and bring sunglasses.
Beautiful place to go and relax during a work break or during a bike ride. Theres a bike elevator, plenty of parking(fee parking), a state commute trail, a water fountain, a large sitting area, and even a cafe at the top. It pretty much has everything.Smells like garbage sometimes, though. So, sadly, I cant give it a 5/5.
Really cool place, great view, lots of space. There is a lost card somewhere between the stone tiles outside... card trick gone wrong.
I absolutely love visiting the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center for work. They have extremely clean and modern facilities. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The layout is efficient and well thought out.Views are breathtaking!
Must visit place with beautiful rooftop (public access for site seeing) and great place for hosting events. Catering is delicious.
Its a beautiful place to have an event. The staff are great, both helpful and friendly. Just dont expect a good meal. The food is a little better than a good T.V. dinner but at a much higher price.
Monona Terrace is beautiful! It’s views are unmatched (of Lake Monona and of the Capitol!)! Lots of events to attend here. Worth taking a stroll in front of using the bike or pedestrian path that goes right along the lake!
I love the view and its always clean and well-staffed. The attached hotel is a bonus when needed. I just hate the entrance and exit due to the one way streets.
