This venue. Oh what to say about this venue. I moved to Madison as a wedding photographer in 2012 and DREAMED of the day I got to work in this beautiful and iconic space. The day(s) came a couple of years ago now and its still one of my FAVORITE venues. If youre considering having your wedding here DO IT. This space is unforgettable. The location is unmatched. The light is perfection. Your day will be absolutely beautiful if the Overture Center is where you celebrate. π·: caynayphoto
I cant believe Im offering one star after all the great shows Ive attended, but the mask PLUS test policy you enacted have forced me to miss a show; I drive a semi and there arent exactly a lot of opportunities on notice as short as 72 hours to get a test that takes 24-72 hours for results. I managed to get an instant and a PCR two days ago, but never got the PCR results. This may be one of the best places to catch a show, but Im very disappointed.
The staff goes out of their way to create a wonderful experience in this beautiful place.
Beautiful venue. Dont expect to get ahold of anyone on the phone. No water or drinks available at your seat.
Superb place to enjoy an evening, or an event of fine accompanying and delightful entertainment.Spectacularly designed and quite the venue to behold.
Went to the Dinosaurs of the Deep show, the show itself was worth taking my three year old son. The ticket situation was strange, we bought VIP tickets which was supposed to include a lanyard and a backstage tour but when we got to the show, they didnt mention this anywhere and there was no VIP section to check-in. When we asked what the deal was before the show started, we were told they were out of lanyards, but nobody in the VIP section had any of them. The only reason Id give this theater a three instead of a two is because a nice woman on the staff tracked down one of the VIP lanyards for my son and saved them in the lobby.
Lovely production value and atmosphere! I brought my niece to the Childrenβs theatre, we were so impressed with the actingβ both of us got very wrapped up into the Charlottes Web plot line βΊοΈ Every level 1 seat has a great view because they are dramatically stair stepped. You donβt have to worry about adults blocking kidsβ views! The actors come out after the performance and the children get to meet them. Lovely!
A wonderful place to catch a show, and the Broadway season ticket prices are quite reasonable. My seat was in the balcony, but I was able to see all of the action very well. If you are up in the balcony, you may want to bring a pair of opera glasses or binoculars to see the finer details of the costumes, but you wont need to keep them stuck on your eyes the whole time.
Beautiful and elegant venue for the arts.
Its nice and the seats are fairly comfortable but it would be nice if they provided better directions how to get to the center / Overture parking garage. For example: they could paint arrows on the walls and ground, they could include a good map / directions how to get there. At night its pretty hard to navigate around downtown because it as if you are driving on road patterns painted by Picasso.
This is a beautiful auditorium with comfortable seating and wonderful views the stage. I have seen a number of plays in their theaters and have never had a complaint. They sell a wide variety of beverages which we could take into the theater. And there are enough Ladys rooms that even during a sold out show, the 15 intermission is sufficient.
Easy parking in nearby lot.Well-marked; the location was easy to find.Great sound.Relatively comfortable seating. Not once was I uncomfortable and Iβm 6β3β.
My family and I went to Kids in the Rotunda for the first time. I love that they put on free shows to get kids interested in the arts. My only reason for 4 stars is that we parked at the Overture Center Parking Garage, and then had to walk halfway around the building to get inside. It wasnt obvious where the entrance was. For your information, it was on State Street. Once you go in the State Street entrance, the Rotunda is essentially directly below you. One set of stairs down.
They always have a great selection of performances. Ushers are very courteous and friendly. You could make purchase light snacks and beverages before the show and intermission.
What a nice theatre!! Comfortable seating and people can actually walk in front of you to their seats. Amazing. Sound is also perfect.
The Center has an unusual, multi-purpose design that actually works well for people flow even on a busy night. It is well designed. The concert hall is first rate. The design is is artistic as well as utilitarian. From the orchestra stage the ceiling flows out in waves which is not only beautiful, it serves to improve the acoustics. The lights in the ceiling appear as sparkles in the sea. Though I have not sat in every seat, I doubt there is a bad viewing angle. Everything is handicap accessible and the staff is great at accommodating special need. However, there is a problem - parking. The area simply lacks sufficient parking spaces. There isnt enough on an average night - given a busy night with multiple events, you might be hard pressed to find something within a reasonable walking distance. (This is actually not the Centers problem but you should be aware of it.)
Classy and fantastic. With the alpine seating and phenomenal acoustics there isnt a bad seat in the house. Everything is tasteful and clean. Also special note for the Capitol Theater inside which is a lovely venue and I highly recommend to see anything there as well.
Gorgeous theater. Very modern. Hardly a bad seat in the place. Brings some pretty great shows and acts. Most recently saw Hamilton here, and it was top-notch.
I visited this place on International festival 2020 on Arts.. its a 3 level building with mutliple halls. Different countries showcased their National Dance/Music. Very nice family event...
I love the Overture and am so grateful to have it available here in Madison. I have seen many shows here and intend to see many more going forward. Iβve had orchestra seats and upper balcony seats and have always been able to enjoy the show.
Greg Zelek is a great musical host and a wonderful organist. The Community Carol Sing was very attended. Overture Hall made us all sound great. A good way to get into the holiday spirit.
We come here for kids in the rotunda which is a free show for young children each Saturday during the winter. The shows are awesome for kids and adults and are highly educational and engaging. I cannot recommend this enough. Makes me so happy to live in such an awesome city that provides programs like these.
This is a great venue. In the heart of Madison, parking lots really close to it. It also have a great program for the kids and family (Kids in the Rotunda).
Beautiful performance space. Went to see Book of Mormon, and Im happily going again this weekend to see Spongebob the musical. Plenty of events for everyone, and they really work to showcase the talent in the area. A free art exhibition is also available too for all art lovers out there!
Beautiful facility. Tickets are so expensive though. Thats who theyre catering to, is people with $80 per seat to toss out every month or so. Still... Please check on the content of the show if youre buying a ticket, before you buy tickets for kids twelve and under though! I mean, Book of Mormon is clearly not appropriate for a ten-year-old, right? But we also saw Rodgers and Hammersteins Cinderella there too. And people brought six year, in their Disney Cinderella costumes. This is not Disneys Cinderella. Scarier at places, and most definitely some scenes you probably dont wish to explain to your six-year-old, after the fact, unexpectedly. On the other hand, there are many many kid-friendly and family-friendly activities every week too. Some are free, with Kids in the Rotunda, for example. A good place to watch for events at, if you live within an hour.
Fantastic venue. Runs smoothly even when PACKED like in the pic for Hamilton. Lots of options for parking and dining, plus many concessions and art for viewing inside.
Love the many venue choices the Overture Center offers. In particular we enjoy and are grateful for our amazing Symphony, the diverse stage shows and the Childrens Theater productions.
The Overture is a beautiful place to catch a Broadway show, the symphony, or any other show. Ive seen shows in the main theater and the smaller Capital theater and both are very nice.
Great concert. Kind of crazy trying to get seated. It could have run much smoother with seating and dismissal but it was a very good concert.
Very pleasant experience. Lost my ticket, they reprinted with no problem, was ushered to my seat and everything went so smoothly.
I am so proud of our little slice of art and music heaven here in Madison! The Overture Center is so amazing! They do so well bringing us amazing plays, musicals, concerts, orchestras, and so much more. I am so happy Madison has access to such a beautiful place to steep oneself in creativity. I would recommend a trip here to anyone! I would give it more than 5 stars is I could!
2 things that prevented me from giving 5 stars.1: the seats could have just a touch more room between the rows, so that it wasnt such an inconverience to let anyone pass.2: Cant they turn up the AC or something? especially towards the end of the play, it got real stuffy.Other than that, it was great!
I had an amazing experience. We were pretty high up in the back, but I could still see everything, the acoustics were great. The play was absolutely wonderful (Anastasia)......the building was beautiful. Cannot wait to see another show!
Wonderful, gorgeous venue for plays and orchestral events. Great value compared to similar venues in major cities. Even better value if you subscribe to series. Only quibble is that acoustics can be a bit over-amped and high-pitched in the high-up seating. On occasion it has been bad enough to force me to put fingers over my ears.
Its amazing the quality of performances we are able to see in the midwest. Overture Center has brought Broadway quality venues right to our community. The spectrum of shows allows for adults and kids alike to enjoy theater.
Weve been to shows here ranging from Broadway quality productions in the overture hall, to intimate concerts in the Capitol theater, and childrens plays in the round. Enjoyed every one of them. Parking is very convenient, staff is friendly and helpful, lines are never long. Plus, being on State Street provides lots of options before and after a show. Just a slice of what makes Madison a great city.
The show was really good, and the space was overall enjoyable. What I dont understand is why all the metered spots in front were covered for no parking. I have handicap parking, and had to park farther than hoped. I didnt see any announcements on their site about not being able to park there either; it just wouldve been nice to plan ahead.
I attended a group meeting near here. This is a great place for a social event. At the dinner hour we had great sunshine gleaming through the glass atrium. Seems like there would be many options for a creative event planner or catering company to really innovate some nice events here. I would go back for another event there!
Gorgeous, well-kept theatre where many kinds of performances (dance, music, plays, and more) are held. Depending on the performance, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks can be ordered in the lobby. There is a parking structure across the street and many restaurants around. Most people attending the performances dress nicely.
We saw Anastasia on 8/3. IT WAS AMAZING! I was a little miffed that my wine cup lid kept leaking on me. I kept having to lick the rim or end up with it on my hand/pants. Luckily it was white wine.
Always a pleasure! We saw Steve Martin and Martin Short perform here on March 13. What a fantastic sold out show! Once in a lifetime opportunity. The Overture really did an amazing job on the sound and the video production. The guest service members were very helpful and courteous.
Very cozy place. Staff was very helpful & organized. Had a great time. Any seat is a good seat.
Second visit. Staff very helpful. Some seniors on staff. They are excellent in customer service.
Very nice and friendly staff. Easy to navigate. The different stages are clearly marked. The restrooms were surprising clean and stocked. I would definitely come back here!
