This review is for the repair shop. Helen’s repair shop crew is top notch - honest, knowledgeable, hard-working, and efficient.The rest of the store is alright. The prices are on the high side, but that is understandable due to it’s super convenient location in Westwood village.

Very strange. I went in to purchase a lot stuff this morning, expected to spend $200+, but the sales person basically told me he didnt want to sell anything. Im sure there is a reasonable explanation but the attitude was really negative. Ill definitely not be back.

Service was excellent, and post-purchase support so far has been very good. Adrian was very helpful, as was Tony. They both made excellent recommendations about accessories for the bike, including my first ever clipless pedal/shoe experience. Now I cant imagine riding without being clipped in.

Eric and the team are extraordinary, providing small town service from another time in big city LA in 2018! Your bike is in good hands at Helens in Westwood. Been an infrequent customer since the mid 2000s and have always felt that all staff really like cycling and their job, and genuinely want to help anyone who walks through the door.

I was very pleased with the customer service. I called before hand stating I was on my way to pick up the bike and needed a rack. Adrian made sure that the rack was installed by the time I reached there. He did not make me feel rushed despite closing time of the store on Friday evening.

Tires and needed new inner tubes. Since getting those replaced, though, my brake has been squeaking horribly whenever I have to break hard or come to a stop. Its really obnoxious, so much that Ive been defaulting to the other brake. They were only able to temporarily fix it when I went back.That said, Id still go back. I had good experiences thus far and most everyone on staff seems more invested in serving customers and friendly than other places Ive been to. Much more personal and less commercial feeling than Performance Bicycles.

I’ve been in many bikes shops in my time and these guys are by far some of the rudest staff I’ve ever met, especially the manager. They don’t deserve your business. Just go down the road to Bike Improve, their staff are helpful and their gear is more competitively priced.

Sometime theyre good but sometimes they have extremely young technicians who dont know what theyre doing and dont really fix your problem. Be prepared to get it fixed and then have to immediately take it bay to get it fixed again.

I always came here whenever I had small issues with my bicycle,such as fixing a flat, small adjustments with gears; they were alwaysmore than willing to help.I also recommend them for major fixes. Recently, my wheelset was stolen on my 1980s road bike and needed obsolete 27 set.After calling many bicycle shops in the West LA area, I was giventhe run-around, each saying I would need to place a special order,which is probably the case. However, the staff at Helens cyclerecommended me to try 700cc, a more modern size on my cycle.They werent sure if it would work in my case, but at the end of the day,it did and I left a happy customer. My bicycle now rides a lot more comfortablythan it ever since I bought it over 4 years ago.

I needed a custom rim. They called the manufacturer and found out the rim wouldnt be in stock for another 2 months. They then called me and told me that they would give me a more expensive rim ($25 more, I believe) for the SAME PRICE. How awesome is that! And they had it shipped from their larger location in Santa Monica to their Westwood location!Update 2013-07One of the employees, Gordon, talked to the store manager and got my wife and I a great discount on the bikes that we bought. Hes awesome!

This is a much smaller shop than the one in Santa Monica but much friendlier. They were great and helpful with a test ride and did their best to answer all my questions honestly and thoroughly.

Im an avid cyclist always try to establish with LBS. Ive established great relationships with local shops in Providence, RI, Portsmouth, NH, and Bangor, Maine where Ive lived over the last ten years, so I think I have pretty reasonable expectations. Just moved to the Westwood. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and I have both had subpar experiences with simple repair requests and wont be returning to Helens. I have a pair of wheels for my road bike that unfortunately the manufacturer no longer supports. I dropped my rear wheel off with the freehub body in a plastic baggy for their convenience and wrote the following work request (verbatim), freehub body gouged from cassette (also making funny noise), want to replace freehub. Williams no longer supports product. 10-spd Ultegra, can you source replacement without having to replace perfectly good hub? They said theyd get back to me in four days. On the sixth day I called to check in and they said theyd look at it now and that theyd call me back in ten minutes. When they called back they said, all set, we overhauled the freehub, it will be $40. This didnt seem in line with my simple request but decided Id deal with it in person. When I arrived, they had simply re-installed my existing freehub (1-2 minute job) and didnt know whether they could source a replacement part, which I think was pretty clearly my question given the verbatim work request above. The mechanic on duty got defensive and said I wasnt clear in my note. A little common sense would say that if I removed the freehub I dont need their assistance in putting it back together. Since they didnt know whether they could source a replacement, I decided to come back a few days later when their more experienced mechanic was in house. When I returned a few days later (today), the front desk staff member reviewed the work notes and confirmed they could find no replacement, then says, so we didnt do anything right? I replied, other than bolt it back on, which wasnt what I was looking for, I think you sanded the cassette gouges and that was it. He returned to the back room and then comes out and says, yeah so we made sure everything was up to spec, so $40 please. Honestly, I didnt even argue it was in such poor taste to even think this was remotely okay. Didnt have the patience and already knew I wasnt returning. Got home, removed freehub and found that they hadnt properly greased the the ratchet ring. Re-installed and promptly went online and purchased a bike work stand and the last few tools I need to be independent for bicycle repairs. By the way, my girlfriends situation in brief: rear derailleur ripped off by road debris, wasnt indexed correctly when bike was returned (issues on first ride), she brought it back and they said the shifting is fine, youre not shifting correctly. Pretty insulting thing to say to someone who was a collegiate road racer who has also done the TransAmerica and had a perfectly shifting bike prior to bringing it to Helens.

I got stranded 8 miles from home with a flat right before rush hour. Matt and Gill hooked me up with a fix in less than 10 min and were incredibly nice. Cant say enough good things this shop.

Got a rear tire and tube replaced, they put the tire on the wrong way, wheel wasnt aligned with the frame and tire pressure was way off, staff was not as knowledgeable as I thought.
